I would like to add that service Canada queues are very long for sin number. If an office opens at 8:30 then be present at 7am if you are anywhere in GTA
Great video! These tips are super helpful for newcomers in Toronto. I really appreciate the reminders about finding accommodation and setting up a bank account; those are crucial steps!👏👍
For me, the first thing I took care of was health insurance. I wouldn’t spend even an hour in a foreign country without health coverage. In my country, hospitals treat you first and ask for money or paperwork later. In Canada, that’s not the case, so getting health insurance was the very first thing I arranged.
As a french it's better to still have your french number on the side with the french provider since in France we have like 300go of internet ( idk the right term) for 30$CAD. So the Canadian prices are really ridiculously expensive for us 😂
I am interested on aquiring both a phone plan and a cellphone when arriving through Rogers newcomer plan. Would you recommend this? Or maybe just change to a new phone before going to Canada?
Roger is very popular here, although it's not the cheapest, but it's fine. I would get the phone here, usually they offer very good packages together with the phone plan!
As always, your videos are amazing and super helpful! The credit history point scares me the most as you have to start over essentially. Do you have a rough idea on how long it takes to establish a good score? Maybe a year or two after settling?
Thank you! Surprisingly, it doesn't take long with the credit history. If you use your credit card(s) correctly, you can get a great credit score pretty fast. I don't remember exactly, but yes, 1-2 years is a good estimate!
Hi. This video is so much helpful especially to newcomers like me. Just want to make a little clarification regarding Presto card. Does that really mean that I can purchase presto card at a Fare vending machine at Pearson airport? TIA.
Thank you, glad to hear that! That's correct, you can buy the physical card at the vending machine at YYZ airport. Just follow the signs that say 'public transportation'. Cheers!
I'm not sure, but I think the transit system in Vancouver, BC is called TransLink and it's just a monthly pass. If anyone living in Vancouver read this, please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks!
I know this video is a bit old... but I was wondering if you had any videos on moving to Toronto as a student going into college? Would this information apply to a student moving?
I think it applies, but it's not as detailed, for students' purposes. You can get a lot of information through the college you'll be attending, all the best!
First thanks much for such informative video Is presto card worth for one week visit to Ontario? Please advise as I would be travelling a lot for five days at least
Presto card is just a card to load money or passes on and use for transport. It doesn't have an expiry date, so yes, you can certainly use it for a week and it's worth it. Hope this helps!
From what I read you can use apply pay on certain trains like GO train (but I haven't tried yet!) On buses and streetcars you still need the presto card and ticket though.
Hi! thanks for the vid, it's very insightful. I'm still confused about the providers tho, is it worth it to buy $60 for an internet provider giving 20gb/month? I am planning to go to canada this august for uni, and seems like finding wifi is pretty hard.
Yes unfortunately internet is pretty expensive here! Try and look for special deals. Or, after you sign up with one provider, you can switch to another. As providers compete with one another sometimes they'll give you special prices just to retain you, or the new one will give you a special offer so you'll switch too them.
@@LivinginCanada Thank you! I'm also Indonesian so kind of a culture shock seeing the prices of internet here. Oh and any recommendations on airbnb for like 3-4 nights near downtown toronto?
Thank you so much for the helpful tips. Shall I open a bank account even if I am doing a soft landing and will stay only for one month? Or shall I postpone opening it until I move permanently to Canada?
I'd wait until you permanently move here. It's usually set up within 1-2 days. Also, usually the bank would ask you for documents that you may not have until you move.
I have a friend who wants to come and live here...hes very willing and able to work but it seems very hard to find a job here, from there...would it be better or is it allowed for him to come on a visitor visa and then look for a job and apply for the work one? I know nothing about this and theres lots of info/options but idk which is the best and gives him the best chance of being accepted to become legal.
The employer would first ask your friend for his/her work permit, so that wouldn't work. Your friend could perhaps just try to get to Canada through one of the Express Entry streams.
Is your friend able to finance maybe a diploma or a short degree for himself? One of the best and easiest ways to get a work permit in Canada without existing Canadian work experience is to come as a student first. He can get a post graduate open work permit for 8 months to 3 years depending on the length of his program to find a job and transition into a proper work permit.
I depends on how many trips you are planning to make. Transfers within a 2-hour window are free. The card itself costs $5, whereas just buying a single fare is $3.2-something... so if you're only making 1-2 trips I would just go with the single fare.
@@LivinginCanada Thank you so much. I can't simply believe you're giving all this vital information for free. Kudos Do you know if the TTC buses run all night from Pearson airport to take me to a nearby Airbnb?
I'm actually not familiar with the schedule. A quick google search could help you out! Although I don't think they run all night, perhaps taking an uber might be a better idea!
I have been watching your channel and I 💕 really love 💕 it. First time I shall come to Toronto March 25... please help me for a cheap accommodation...I don't have any relative or Friend.. please help me as because I have some eye problem.

RBC sucks - it has no account that waives monthly fees with a minimum balance. Other 4 major banks are good options.
Thanks for sharing that! I never used RBC before!

Is there any prepaid esim option 10 days, I don't mind paying for the whole month, because I need a local one (roaming or travel esim are so slow)
These are so helpful, the presto card for public transportation service is same for Vancouver Canada as well right?
Presto only covers regions in Ontario. I believe Vancouver should have their own system. Cheers!
It’s called a compass card you can get them in London drugs or in the sky train station it’s also 6$ for the compass card
Yes thank you.
what tips can you give me...I am trying to move to a bigger place because my wife and son are coming here
When you get your PR you apply for SIN? Does IRCC not get you own along with PR?
Can I use just apple Pay or google pay or credit cards with NFC support for public transportation without getting presto Card?

Hi! Can you tour in Toronto?
I’m on a visit visa can I can all of this
For many things you need a work/study permit or PR.
Hi! I'm going to Canada as a tourist and looking for work, do I also need a SIN but I will open an acc for a saving account
You usually need a SIN to open an interest-bearing account
Presto or Conpass??
How did You get into Canada?
With a work permit, if that was your question!
hi can you apply for scotiabank online?
I believe you eventually need to go to the branch in person.
