    Hi, thanks so much. Is there a maximum term during which should I get an articling position? Should I article in the same province I will ask to be qualified as lawyer?

    Hello Surbhi,
    I have a question that Can we do articling on open work permit in Canada and also the LPP Program.
    I am asking because on the work permit it states, Unless Authorized, prohibited from attending any academic institution and Professional training course.

    5:40 Why would someone enrol without an articling position secured if there is a 3 year limit? Wouldn't it be smarter to secure articling and then enrol?

      Yes, you will have to enrol in the LSO lawyer licensing process first and then you will have 3 years to complete your 2 bar exams and your Articling/LPP.

    I am planning to take the NCA exam and i have completed my bachelors in law in may 2020 . I wanted to know is it necessary to have the bar license in order to apply for the NCA Exam and is there any effect on my NCA assessment if I don’t have the license?
    Please help me out regarding this issue.

      You would need to provide a letter of good standing from the state bar council or BCI to obtain your NCA assessment.. which means you will have to enrol with your state bar council and see if they are willing to give you that letter before AIBE.. I arranged for a letter from BCI and they asked for my Certificate of practice that we get after AIBE, but my suggestion would be to write to NCA because the rules keep changing and ultimately it really depends on NCA!

  • @sarahdoshi2135
    @sarahdoshi2135 3 года назад +1

    Hi Surabhi , Could you please let me know when did you apply for PR? after or before articling? Also in one of your previous videos you said that to give NCA exams you need to get yourself enrolled with BCI. This means that I have to give AIBE right?
    Also were you allowed to work part time during your LLM and your after your articleship?

    • @mshappyfeet7168
      @mshappyfeet7168 3 года назад +1

      Hi Sarah,
      I applied for PR closer to the end of my Articling, I had sufficient points without the Articling but I still extended my Articling to complete 1 year, only to make sure that if I don’t get PR without my Articling experience under the express entry program then I can reapply under the Canadian experience class! But if you able to come here with some experience that would be better because everything else is too risky!
      Yes, for NCA you need to be enrolled with a bar council, if you have a probationary enrolment with a state bar council before you write your AIBE you can check with NCA if they will accept that, it should be work but it’s always better to check with NCA directly!

    Can I give NCA exams after LLB if I haven't done LLM

  • @deepanshupanwar501
    @deepanshupanwar501 3 года назад +2

    Hi Surabhi, suppose I don't go to Canada to pursue LLM, and I decide to give the NCA exams from India. Then after clearing the NCA exams, what is the process of getting the PR in Canada, is there a time limit, is there any sperate process, etc? Need for clarity. Thank You!

    • @mshappyfeet7168
      @mshappyfeet7168 3 года назад +3

      Hi, you will have to apply for PR under the Express Entry program, but you won't get any additional points for completing NCA exams - for example if you study in Canada (at a designated learning institution) you get additional 30 points for Canadian education but you won't get those points with NCA either by completing them from India or in Canada, having said that, if your Express entry score is already good enough to make the cut you don't need Canadian education to get apply for PR. In terms of timeline, I believe you are talking about the NCAs - you need to complete all NCA exams within 5 years of receiving your NCA assessment.

    Hi ma'am
    After LLM-CL , student may have one year working permit but you told ,the process of licencing take 2to3 years. How can a student get more than 1 year to complete the total process plz ma'am clear this thing . I am totally confuse .
    Thank you .

    • @mshappyfeet7168
      @mshappyfeet7168 3 года назад +1

      That is the tricky part, so it is always better to come to Canada with at least 1 yr of work experience or PR because that risk of not being able to complete the process is too high! And finding Articling immediately after graduation is also something not guaranteed, a lot of people have to wait for months to find Articling or jobs in the same field. Or you can take admission to a research based LLM program that is longer than 1 yr and complete your NCA exams on the side. If you don’t want to wait to gain 1 year of work experience or do not have sufficient points for PR then a program of more that 16 months makes more sense because that will make you eligible for a 2-3 yr work permit. The only downside of the longer programs is that you will be only eligible to work part time until you are a student. So you should be able to support yourself for those 1.5-2 years, financially.

    HI Surbhi,
    Hope you are doing well !
    Just wanted to know about the UBC campus placement intiatives, if any, for the LLMCL candidates. How good is it in comparison to that of Osgoode or University of Ottawa ?
    Secondly, how's BC as a province for internationally trained lawyer to find work after clearing all the formalities?
    Kindly revert.

    • @mshappyfeet7168
      @mshappyfeet7168 3 года назад +2

      Hi Dhruvraj,
      unfortunately, there is no campus placement system here for LLM students, you will have to find your own job/articling, the careers services may help you with your resume, cover letter and interviews but that's the extent of it. For your second question, it is hard for internationally trained lawyers to find Articling/job everywhere in Canada, so I would say pick your province by doing an overall comparison between the provinces you are interested in, most importantly, pick a province where you want to settle down because studying in one province and then moving to another to find a job makes things very difficult.

    Hi Surbhi!
    Hope you’re doing well!
    I got done with by LLB and now am planning for LLMCL from York.
    Altho it’s quiet a hefty amount of tuition fees and I will be practising immigration law later, what are your opinions about it?
    To be eligible for assisting people in PR and immigration, Will i have licensed as well?
    I initially had though I’d go for an ICCRC but I thought encashing my law from here would be the best option.
    Also, to practice law, is it just Ontario that requires articling or every state does?
    And what after llm CL, the timeline till I can be a practiced lawyer? ( just need an estimate )
    I know it’s too much but you’re the only person I found who’s on the same path that I am planning.
    THANK YOUUUUU!

    • @mshappyfeet7168
      @mshappyfeet7168 3 года назад +1

      Articling is a requirement in more or less every province as far as I know but in Ontario there are options to substitute Articling like the law practice program or you can apply for abridgement or exemption from Articling if you have practice experience in India but this really depends on the law society and the kind of work experience you have!
      If you go for an LLMCL my estimate would be anywhere from 2-3 yers to get through the LLM + the lawyer licensing process which includes the bar exams and Articling!

    Hey!
    Thanks alot for such informational videos.
    I am vasu khera practicing in India, i have got my offer letter from York university for LLMCL. I have some queries related to the same. It would be great, if you can address it.
    1. Whether we can give Bar exam without PR?
    2. As, you mentioned that we get 1 year work permit after course then if we get Articleship after 3-4 months, then how we can extend our work permit after one year deadline or we must apply PR immediately after passing out?
    3. Please, if you can give some advice whether it is possible to manage studies with part time work in LLM. Like if we come there with education loan then it’s worth it or not?
    Lastly, like we have done just 1 year course and law is very depth, so is it easy to cop up with new laws.
    I know you must be busy but i liked your videos and thought to ask you the same.
