That is exactly what I thought during this scene; if the motive is to help others, then a millionaire is better positioned to do that with his money than with his organs (besides, he can still register as an organ donor so as to benefit people years down the line after he actually passes). Dying in this case would only satisfy a very short-sighted and selfish desire to FEEL helpful in the immediate moment, rather than actually BEING maximally helpful across time.

Here you have to wait for everything and youll still get shit care.
It is easy in the U.S. to get out of a hospital. You just have to say, I want to leave. Do that and they let you leave.
Id hate to stay in a hospital with glass walls...
And if something went wrong and nobody could see you, you'd die before someone decided to come check on you.

Thing about bill gates is that he can donate huge amounts of money and still be absurdly, bordering on unethically rich. The moral thing to do in his position is to donate much more than he's currently doing. That being said, he is still leagues better than all the other rich people just sitting on their fortunes.

Wow the Hollywood donation schedule. I'm a living kidney donor and it takes weeks of prep and examinations before they let you donate. Also I had like 8 psychological evaluations before they approved me as mentally sound to donate.

Things like this are probably why in real life it takes so long, even if this is entirely fictional. Nobody wants to take someone’s organs just because a tumor makes them generous.

Okay.. As a doctor never heard/read of Plummer's disease causing any personality changes or making someone "irrationally generous". It causes usual hyperthyroidism features like restlessness,tremors,increased apetite, anxiety..only exception being bulging out of eyes like other causes of hyperthyroidism.

as someone who needs a kidney transplant, its scary how they just said "okay" to him offering up his kidney without a blood test, or stress test, heart echo, or any of the other tests necessary to see if someone can donate.
Presumably they did those tests off screen. Showing all of that would've made for a very long episode.

I actually was just scrolling through house clips and randomly found this and also have several thyroid nodules. Supposed to get my thyroid removed January 26th for suspected thyroid cancer so this was an interesting coincidence.
