Don’t do it. North Thailand is far superior in every way. Safer . They have hospitals . The people are much nicer. Trust me I have spent time in both and if you are wanting to move to Asia Cambodia would be my last choice. Please don’t just think I’m being negative. I’m not. I’m just being honest
Not just visit - but retire there. --- I'm old and frugal looking for a cheap cost of living - world wide. There are none more desirable for my liking than Siem Reap - all factors considered - in over a year looking ! Visa friendly is an understatement if over 55. It's a beautiful city - big enough but not too big. The people are exceptionally friendly and English is all that's needed there. Food variety is very good as well. --- The biggest negative might be the extreme heat ? --- Cheap 1 hour flights to Bangkok can be had - either for fun - or - quality health care. --- Surely it's not for everybody or perhaps even most people - but that is '''exactly why''' it appeals to me ! Plenty of tourists come and go - just the way I would like it. Spend $ and leave - supporting the local economy. 😃
You are absolutely right, many people are considering retirement in Cambodia above other countries like Thailand etc because of the easy visa requirements. People are incredibly open and kind towards foreigners as well. Only con we can think of is the heat like you say, you will learn to do activities in the morning and late afternoon to avoid the heat.. At the end of the day this is a minor inconvenience and you will adapt to this. I wish you all the best and luck in moving/retiring in Cambodia. May you have all the health and joy in the world living here. 🙏
Cambodians are very welcoming to foreigners and their English skills are found throughout Cambodia not just the capital. As the country continues to develop things will be more convenient for expats.
Our pleasure, make sure to visit someday! Art here is in abundance and can be a vast source of inspiration. We checked out your art and are blown away, very skilful masterpieces to say the least 😮👌
Unfortunately we rarely do. They tend to be very expensive and buying basic cooking supplies in some countries can really add up the cost. Buying food on the streets in Asia is the way to go when living on a budget.
@frankkluz9787 Absolutely Frank! Do make sure to wear a mask sometimes because traffic jams can create pollution but the smoke issue is not as prominent for sure! 😉
We agree! You can find restaurants with cuisines from all over the world here, we were surprised to find so many choices for great prices like you say 👍😊
All over the historic town you can find random street stalls. Most of them are situated next to the water, you'll have to do some walking and spot the good ones out yourself. Follow the smell of smoke and enjoy! 😉
Well from what I've seen it should be fine. We were surprised by there not being so much stray dogs and if there were dogs they weren't aggressive. Which gives me the impression they aren't treated as such. I would not recommend wandering out of the city to rural areas. Dogs may roam freely and are definitely protective over their territory, this is the case all over Southeast Asia. Aside from that the city itself should be fine! 😉
Would you like to visit Siem Reap? Tell us why! 😉

How is dating there for Western man?
I can't really say since I didn't go there to date but I've seen many Westerners dating locals. Try consulting Google for more information 👍
