New Intercity Fleet "Mariyung" D set opening and closing doors at Mount Colah

As testing for the NIF progresses, it will eventually run more daylight door tests. Already 2 10-car NIFs have made themselves home at the Kangy Angy Maintenance Centre. Soon the NIF will be able to carry passengers first on the Central Coast and Newcastle line, followed by the Blue Mountains then South Coast lines. At least 5 10-car NIFs have landed on our shores with 50 more to go.

Seems like they have the same "doors closing, please stand clear" announcement as the Waratahs, and I can see why. This voice is the same voice as some of the other announcements like "Please mind the gap when getting on or off the train", so I think they're just trying to keep it consistent.

I like how some trains will be 10 carriges because most of the stations including the ones on the sydney trains network can fit 8 cars so the first 2 carriges will be more likely to be empty.

When the doors opened a design flaw became immediately obvious: there's no door between the vestibule and the car interior to stop hot air in heatwaves or frigid air in winter (especially the Blue Mountains) from entering the car interior at stops. Remember that these trains can have long dwell stops at many stations.

Sydney Trains doors are so big, one of the doors is probably equivalent to a class 158 in the UK.

It's time to get real with the number of carriages on the interurban network. I remember back in the 80's travelling from Central to Katoomba on a 4 car set on the weekend. That was cheek by jowl travelling. Why not follow the example of Netherlands Railways NS and have 16 carriages on a standard interurban. Problem: Sydney Trains will have to lengthen most platforms on most stations. Wondabyne is great at 2 car length!

@@15sixmedia To be fair I think the Union do have a valid point considering the current guard replacement with CCTV has a massive safety issue being that anything under 1.1m is not visible on CCTV. 1.1m may not sound like much but that could be a service animal, a wheelchair, a pram, a child and well the list goes on. That needs to be rectified and that even as a singular point I stand with the Union on.
