I made a smoker out of a Bookers box. Just drilled a hole in the side and ran some tubing from a side smoke box into the bookers box, which contains the rocks glass with your favorite pour. Works perfectly and much easier to deal with than all the flipping, pouring, capping and sealing, etc…
When I asked you about this in a previous video I immediately wanted to try it. So I went to target and found one of their jars with a rubber seal for 6.99 and had myself an amazing drink! Again, thank you and awesome job!
Hickory wood chips and a glass covers all that’s needed. When your trying to add the aesthetic for a party or restaurant which is HALF the point of this, it’s awesome seeing a plate with a cover full of glass and one burnt chip ember. Then releasing the cover and swirling the smoke into a little twirl as you serve it 👌. Can’t beat it
Hey Buddy the 1st part of this video is nothing but alcohol abuse! There are sober people through out the world that would have loved to have that whiskey! Secondly love the video. We here in the hills of Kentucky are good at making whiskey (actually only called bourbon if store bought) the Home made stuff is called "Licker" The only thing we smoke is green But now we're going to try to smoke whiskey!
Hey Nick, check with cabinet builders in your area. Most all I’ve dealt with have a scrap bin they throw cutoffs in to dispose of later. Throw a few bucks their way for their troubles and they’ll gladly let you dig thru and grab whatever you need in moderation. Also, check any lumber mills you may have in your area, especially the mom and pop ones. They’ll have a plethora of scraps they’ll give you just to keep from having to mess with them. A few bucks here and there for their troubles will keep an open door for you with those folks as well. Good luck, bro, and cheers!
My local whiskey bar smokes the ice for your drinks. So your whiskey is normal , but they have different large ice cubes to choose from. Try it out. (No clue how they do it)
A smoked whiskey sour is actually pretty tasty. I found that when I smoked my whiskey with the cedar that it gave it somewhat of a spicy earthy taste - like earthy rye. Also, I do smoked ice spheres and drop them into my whiskey and you gradually get the Smokey taste as the sphere melts. Big fan of the channel as a newbie watcher and newbie wood worker. I see you’re a 1st Phorm guy - I think you should be on the MFCEO Project. Let’s get.a petition going. Thank you again! Cheers
Ha! It's funny you say that. I went to college with Andy. He's actually mentioned me on his podcast before (I was his first customer when he and Chris opened their first store). I am really looking forward to trying the cedar, I've heard really great things. And I want to learn the smoked ice trick...but I'm not a huge fan of ice in my whiskey! So, I'm torn. It looks really cool though! Glad you're a fan! We like fans around here!
Build Dad Build dude! That’s awesome - he has helped shape my life in so many ways I couldn’t even tell you. I used to travel to STL for work unfortunately it was before I knew of S2 and Andy or else I would have went into a store just to get a sense the culture. Thank you again for the reply.
Build Dad Build I make my ice cubes the same way you did the whiskey. I melt the cubes first, add the smoke to the jar than pour the water in the jar and let it sit. Then make the ice cube again. I was told by a science teacher that taking a solid and breaking it down into a liquid and then making it a solid again has some sort of nerdy positive reaction. It seems to work best for me that way, better than other ways I’ve tried.
You don't even need to do that. You can just light up the top again and get to work. Busting the planer out in between drinks would take some time! LOL Cheers
😂 Your wife was absolutely right brother 🤷🏾♂️ Not the best choice of words but I know exactly what you meant…Coming from a black man with a strong love/hate relationship with ghetto lol😅 Thanks for the video
Will have to try this, something different is the word when I go shopping for whiskey. BTW Makers Mark is a nice drop for any of you who's taste Buds ain't working.
Cool video. Question from Germany as I saw this just today. How would you describe the infused smoke compared to Scottish peated whisky? Bowmore, Ardbeg, Lagavulin etc?
I would say this works better on cheaper whiskeys that don't have as many layers of flavor. Haven't actually tried it on scotch. Check it out and tell me what you think! Cheers
Ive been just puttin the whiskey in and burning the hickory and then just puttin the hickory on top of it with gloves or something that way ur not moving the smoke around too much, and when u lift off u still have some smoke left in the glass when u take your sip or shot, looks better not sure if it taste better
Also my new hobby is torching wood. :} Your videos are fun and helpful. Thanks for putting the time into editing out boring shit or rambling. Good job bro!
Captain Google isn’t giving me the direct answer I’m looking for, so I’ll ask this; beings I’ve never done cooking or anything with wood planks: I want to roast some peppers, but want to give them a smoked flavor. I want to roast them on Ash wood. However, it seems very difficult to find Ash grill planks. Can I use any type of wood so long as it’s not pressure treated? Or does it have to be made for grills? I plan to put these peppers into a Mead afterwards, in hopes to get a spicy but Smokey flavor out of it. Thanks!
Technically you could use any wood. However, I'd stick to food planks since you'll know that you won't have an issue with sap, or something like that. Hickory would probably give you the smokey flavor you're looking for. amzn.to/3kIXvmh Cheers!
Great video, but I feel like you could’ve gone even more ghetto by using a mason jar and smoking wood chips probably? Also was wondering if it might make a difference if you shake up the whiskey while in the jar with the smoke?
@@BuildDadBuild i just rewatched your video. You used two different glasses on the second half. I mean light the wood on fire and just put it on top of your glass that has whisky in it.
Gotcha. Putting t he glass down on the wood gives the wood a few seconds to cool off while still capturing the majority of the smoke. I'm sure if you wore a glove or used tongs you could just put the wood on the glass. But that sucker gets hot!
Ha! I've been asked that soooo many times. I bought it on Amazon. I have not been able to find the same shirt again. I'm assuming there was some sort of copyright issue or something. Sorry, brother. Cheers
Great stuff once again ! LOL & definitely siding with wife on the name change 😂 PS: you might want to grab a belt for whoever told you that was called a dab torch 😂😂😂 🚩
I haven't used cedar a lot to smoke cocktails. I mainly use oak and hickory. A friend recently sent me a bunch of hickory offcuts and I've been using those!
Be careful, some fencing is treated with chemicals. And if it's not treated, it may have come into contact with questionable materials in storage, production, and transportation. Those planks are mass produced and aren't intended to be food safe, so there wasn't any care taken to make sure they didn't get anything hazardous on them before they made their way to you.
Build Dad Build you can also vape alcohol by putting it in a plastic water bottle cut a hole in the cap put a good seal on it however you want and use a bike pump or something and the pressure turns it to steam
bro you went through so much effort but the follow-through was b******* you're supposed to shake the liquor up in the bottle so you get to smoke inside as it aerates. plus do you have to shake it up you can close the lid afterwards and still get two drinks from it after that
There's something deeply 'Merican about combining a torch, burning stuff in your living room, and whiskey.
I made a smoker out of a Bookers box. Just drilled a hole in the side and ran some tubing from a side smoke box into the bookers box, which contains the rocks glass with your favorite pour. Works perfectly and much easier to deal with than all the flipping, pouring, capping and sealing, etc…

Awesome. Glad you got a chance to check it out. I love the extra dimension that whiskey takes on with a little smoke added!
I’m a fan of using wood chips too! All that’s needed for my system is a rock slate, wood chips, torch, liquor of choice, a glass!
Cheers!
Hickory wood chips and a glass covers all that’s needed. YESSSSS! I am definitely going to be attempting this! Oh and this was by far my favorite shoutout/callout ever...well played sir!
Haha...
just did my first whiskey Jim Beam white Label and YES it improved taste.
Awesome!
Yeah, you'll definitely notice a big difference in taste with entry level bourbons.
Glad you dug!

I saw a video where the guy had ice filled with smoke. He referred to another video that showed the process. I. MUST. LEARN. THIS. PROCESS. 😂😂😂
"Or as the kids call it, a dab torch". Hilarious.
I like how you showed both the upper crust version and the get'er done version.
Nothing wrong with being "thrifty".

My papa drinks so I think once I get the hang of this I'll give him some smoked whisky
Fingers crossed you are over 21!
Love the vids man. Love the channel!!! Enjoyed the branch off topic!!! Dads being dads!!!
Thanks man!
I can taste that sweet smoked whiskey flavor in this video. Awesome
Love it.

I have NOT read through ur other comments!! Butt "Mason Jars" also is a cheaper way of buying a jar that has a rubber seal!
You could totally use mason jars!
Just earned yourself my subscription, congratulations!

Also. The board is like 3/4 thick. Once the surface is all charred just run it through a planer and take 1/8 off. Good as new.

@@BuildDadBuild ahh okay, thanks for the reply!
How many smoked drinks can you make with one slab of wood? TIA
Depends on how heavy handed you are with the torch. But I can usually squeeze about 10-12 out of one piece.
Cheers
Just got a kit for Christmas, I will try it soon. Have you tried it on beer? I really like the bourbon barrel beer, wonder if this will come close.
I've never tried it on beer. But I've had "smoked beer" and it was pretty good!
Cheers

Do you have to soak the grill planks prior to like you normally have to?
I don't. I just torch them dry.

Sweet vid!! Loving the goggles as well. Where'd you pick those bad boys up??
Where I buy everything...Amazon of course! LOL

Try toasting an orange peel and garnishing with it. I love me some whiskey. Especially crown black
That sounds delicious.

Pretty cool! I think you could get the wood even cheaper at the local hardwood dealer! 🍻
I'm positive you can. But I think for someone who just wants to smoke cocktails, it's probably easier to just order from Amazon! LOL
@@BuildDadBuild hahaha fair enough, but who wants to just smoke cocktails when you could be building things too!
Great minds think alike my friend...great minds...

How about mixing few drops of hickory liquid smoke? Any thoughts on that
Hadn't really thought about it.

Wonder if you shook it when it was in the jar with the smoke and the lid clipped on. I see many burns on the hands in some ones future... Martin

Hey brother was that a vodka skull and if so where you get the cork thanks
I have vodka in a skull bottle that looks similar, but I bought that one as a decanter set here:

alcohol abuse
You know you can just buy hardwood from the lumber store for like $2/board foot?
Yeah go nuts
Nothing is better than FREE...
Why do you smoke a glass.
It flavors the whiskey. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@BuildDadBuild oh k cool thxs for telling me.
Un adulterated is THE ONLY way to drink whisky - note there is no ‘e’ in whisky - that would be Irish Whiskey, not Scottish whisky. Just saying x
I would argue that Irish and American whiskeys are with an E, while Canadian, Scottish and Japanese whiskies are without.
But...in the end it's all just brown liquor! 😜😜😜🔥😂
Step 2 lol !!!!!
