I’ve got a great recipe I call “Churchill’s Breakfast” This is a stirred drink 1oz maple syrup 1.5oz makers mark .5oz amaretto 3 dashes black walnut butters 1oz cold brew coffee Stir til chilled, neat pour. Garnish with a burnt end cinnamon stick, smoked with a “top-hat” smoker
Smoke flavor is a complicated thing. I love bacon, but I don't like bacon in a burger because of the smoky thing. Not sure how I would like a smoked cocktail...
Have you tried the last one with other smokey whisky like Lagavulin? Not quite as smokey, but more nuanced neat than Laphroaig. I am out of both atm, so curious what to go for.
I just want to say that because of you I have developed a passion for mixing cocktails. I have even quit my job to pursue a career in bartending so that someday I could open my own cocktail lounge. Couldn’t be happier.
@@BigHairyCrank I always need a tester. When I’m trying new recipes I’ll have 6 drinks in front of me and I’ll call my friends over to drink them. You know, so there’s no waste😂
I made a drink called Smoke and Fire!!! 1.5oz mezcal 1oz lime .5oz habanero .25oz agave Shake and strain into a laphroaig rinsed double old fashion glass and serve!!!
For anybody out there who might not want to mix Laphroaig, Lagavulin, or Ardbeg Islay scotches because of their price tag, I’ve found some very decent budget priced alternatives. Hamilton’s makes a good blended Islay, and Shieldaig offers a perfectly serviceable single malt Islay. Both are around $20 per 750ml bottle, at least in my area. They’re worth keeping your eyes peeled for.
Meanwhile I’m at home alone last night, in my pyjamas and Ugg boots, playing Forza Horizon 5 on the Xbox and drinking and old fashioned made with Ardbeg Traigh Bahn batch 3 😂
Hey Anders! I think at this point I've watched every video on your channel. You really helped me transform my habit into a passion. Your videos are super cool and I love how you go into the science and history of things, not just throw recipes at people. Your knowledge is just fascinating! I think the "science" or lesser known things that you show are really cool, like flaming citrus oil, or layering drinks based on their alcohol content, etc. So cool!
Nice cocktails Anders, I love them smoked, especially this time of year. We used to have an awesome drink at my speakeasy bar. We called it The Great Gatsby (I know there are probably hundreds of cocktails with this name haha): - 2 oz Monkey Shoulder - 1/4 oz rich honey syrup - 1/3 oz Averna - 2 dashes of levander bitters Stirred then smoked and served in an old fashioned glass filed with ice. Garnished with orange twist and a piece of mature cheddar. Cheers
I've been enjoying a tiki variant that has a fair amount of smoky flavor to it. I call it the Burning Plane: .5 oz lemon juice .25 oz lime juice .5 oz coconut cream .5 oz peach liquor .5 oz cointreau .5 oz Koloa Dark Rum 1.5 oz El Derado 12yr rum 1.75 oz Montelobos mezcal Shake everything but the mezcal. Add the mezcal as a float (the coconut cream adds a heaviness to the cocktail so it will support the float). You can add some Angostura to the float, but it isn't a requirement. The idea of the drink is to be enjoying a nice easy flight to the tropics with each sip... but then things take a turn. The engine blows half way through your flight and the smoky mezcal flavor kicks in and just gets stronger from there. Safe landings kiddos, drink responsibly!
@@OrenNoah You've gotta let me know how it tastes. 1.75 oz of Montelobos mezcal is already making it pretty smoky, so a "smoked" version has me extremely curious. This cocktail is 4 and half years in the making so adding any other steps does have me concerned, but I am curious how it turns out!

Oooh, I love me some smoked drinks and I use every excuse to use my smoke gun. The Bee's Knees is one of my favourite gin cocktails, I'll have to try out the smoked version! Thanks Anders for this 3 for 1 and I wish you a lovely weekend! Also, I just made the Cigar and it is delicious! (I didn't have a grapefruit, so I added a dash of grapefruit bitters on top, works well!)
Thanks Anders. Best video so far! I love these ideas! Smoked Kentucy Colonel - the flash from the lemon oils really adds to the showmanship of the presentation. As for your Bee Calm - no, I don't like the name. You're right, when you smoke a hive when you are working with your bees, you are making them think there is a threat of fire and they will gorge on honey in case they have to evacuate. The smoke also interferes with the transmission of the pheromones they use to tell each other to panic and react to you disturbing the hive. (I'm a very amateur beekeeper) So maybe Calm the Hive, Smoking the (Bee)Hive? I would hate to loose the Knees part of the name so leave it with me for a while longer... I might root around some. And finally, I would love to add the same ideas to your Smoky Spicy Margarita so what would you suggest we balance on top of the Mezcal? Playing with fire while mixing a beautiful drink - what could be more fun!
I luv Laphroaig! I mix it with cointreau, a splash of Luxardo, a little maple syrup (instead of simple), a Luxardo cherry (and occasionally, a cucumber slice, Ala Little Wing). cheers!
Great video again with good humor! I had a small gathering of family & friends this summer and made old-fashioned cocktails for all. I would make 6 at time and placed them in my cold grill/smoker with a pellet tube smoker and smoked the lot at once. They turned out quite nice (for several rounds...). Thanks for the videos Anders - Slainte!
I’ve never smoked my glass before hand. I have a smoker that goes on top and always did it after I made the cocktail. I really love smoking your recipe of the Sazerac!!! Try it!
Ooh, nices. I was expecting a Penicillin build, but that Cigar is what the Islay was for. Ima making me a C-gar tomorrow, oh boy oh boy oh boy. Looking forward to it already. Mustn't forget to get some grapefruits first. Thank you very much for this wonderful tip!
Update - I made the Cigar yesterday for myself and my girlfriend. I really love Isaly whiskeys, but she is certainly not a fan, to phrase it gently. But oh my goodness, what a wonderful cocktail that is. Also my girlfriend, between sips, kept commenting on how special and nice this cocktail is. It really sticks out. I used Campari to substitute the Aperol and that works great. Thank you so much for the tip on smokey cocktails! As soon as I find a piece of clean oak wood, there's going to be Bee Gentles (Suggestion: Bee Dazed, Bee Dazzled?) served in this house.
Outstanding. I appreciate the use of Laphraoig. Definitely look forward to trying. NOT a gratuitous use of smoke. Thanks! Bee-calmed would work. Admittedly, my first thought upon seeing the first drink was brilliant! Poor man's scotch! Curious about another round with the addition of egg, perhaps around the winter holidays. Reminds me of a dad with a flask and a cigar that joined us for sliding down the monuments in Grant Park on Christmas Day! Good times.
Santa brought me a smoking gun last year and I've been having a lot of fun with it. I've tried smoking the glass, using a dome, running smoke through the cocktail, etc. But, I've settled on the easiest and more efficient method I've tried so far, which is to fill an old decanter with smoke and cap it Then make the cocktail(s) in a shaker or mixing glass and strain into the smoke-filled decanter. Some swishing around and then pouring into the cocktail glass.
Got right out of my seat and made the Cigar without waiting for you to finish making it. With Antica formula vermouth and Lagavulin 16. Didn't have a grapefruit in the house though.
I adore smoky cocktails and The Cigar is a huge favourite. I really love a fabulous peaty scotch and the expression of this spirit comes out beautifully in this fantastic libation!! It's a consistent fave. This is tonight's cocktail!! I would love all of these terrific cocktails!! Thanks Anders!! Cheers!! 🙂
This topic really hit with me at this time. I've been in a, I hate the cold mood. This triggered a, "well, at least I can play with fire, er, I mean make smoky drinks. " For actual smoke, usually just an Old Fashioned riff. For flavor, I really enjoy the Spellbinder with Mezcal. I have a couple smokers, but prefer the simple wood smoker overtop the glass. Less stuff to clean after.
When you pulled out the bottles for The Cigar I checked my calendar to see if it was April 1st. Never would have guessed those flavors could go together, but it's fantastic.
It's chilly the past two nights here in central Florida...these would be perfect, but I don't have everything to try them. I'm gonna make a Vieux Carré or three until I can remedy this travesty. The Cigar looks great! Cheers Anders.🥃🥃
I gotta be honest, Anders...the smoked Kentucky Colonel might be top 3 best cocktail I've ever tasted...my goodness it is tasty... 1) Negroni 2) KY Colonel 3) Improved Whiskey Cocktail
My go to cocktail channels Anders: Best classic mixology. When I want to make a great drink, I always refer to Anders’ videos. Especially for tiki dishes drinks Cocktail time Kevin: Best inventive mixology. I’ve tried several of his recipes but they are hugely involved. That said, his Ramos Gin Fizz gets the best results by far and I’ve tested all the main videos. How we drink: fun without taking it seriously
Great video. I’ve wanted to try smoking a cocktail ever since watching your Smoked Old Fashioned clip. I have a recently felled Pohutukawa tree in my garden, so it’s going to be Kiwi style when I finally get brave enough.
I'm looking forward to trying the Cigar. I was recently looking for peaty scotch-based cocktails that are broadly in the Negroni family, and I found the Drunk Uncle. It's a bit different (1.5 scotch, .75 amaro, .75 dry vermouth), but similarly calls for grapefruit peel. Peat + grapefruit oil = 👌. Too bad Islays have gotten so expensive recently.
Hey Anders, got home from work and you're right the cold winds are blowing here. I thought great a new Anders video. I grabbed a glass and thought yep, Elmer T Lee tonight sounds good. Gave myself a nice pour and I settled in to sip and watch. The Kentucky Colonel is one I need to definitely try. Thought it was a good video but there was just something missing... Hmmm.. oh yeah, the Puppy..! now that would make it a great video..lol.
Great Video! I chose to immediately try the cigar. I had Ardbeg instead of Laphroaig and Select Aperitif instead of Aperol (sits between Aperol and Campari, so I put only around 1/3 oz). Worked perfectly! Thanks for that! Ideal drink for Berlin with freezing temperatures outside.
I know the Scotch drink as a “Smokeless Manhattan” - which I was told was created when smoking was first banned in NYCs bars. In the version I know, there is another ingredient- a splash of Clove cigarette-infused vodka - which added both a nice tobacco flavor as well as a hint of tasty clove. HOWEVER: it turns out that drinking nicotine is even worse for you than smoking it - so I cut that bit (Maybe we could sub tobacco bitters?) I LOVE smoke flavors. (Big Islay whisky fan)
I have a favorite smoky bourbon. Warbringer. The Warmaster edition is fantastic too! It's a mesquite smoked bourbon that tastes great but I've never had it in a cocktail.
Anders you are my favourite youtube bartender right now, watching you is so inspiring and when I'm going to make a classic or a twist on a classic I always end up to your versions. Well done, it's always a pleasure watching a new video coming out on your channel. Cheers!

Just had a smoked cocktail at a bar and was going to get a smoke infusion kit. This just made it happen :). Site was finicky at payment, not sure if me/them, but whatever as I got it done.
Lovely cocktails that you've shown. I have a quite boozy drink I think would be fun to try it's called "little bird dropped dead". 20 ml of vodka, 20 ml of white rum (has to be white), 20 ml of gin, 20 ml of banana liquor (pisang ambon), a tiny squezze of lime or lemon juice. Thereafter you put ice in a tom collins glass and top it up with sprite or 7up. Give it a try please, and do tell me what you think about it
A cocktail magician at a local restaurant turned me on to smokey cocktails. I need to add this to my arsenal. Thanks for making these, Anders! And yes... Chicago is brisk now! 🥶
This provides that special feeing we get in the cockles of our hearts, maybe below the cockles, maybe in the sub-cockle area, maybe in the liver, maybe in the kidneys, maybe even in the colon, we don’t know.
I live in Norway so I can't buy stuff from the US because of the shipping costs, but I am constantly trying to look around the web for alternatives to the websites, crossing fingers I'll find one of those smoke tops or something 🤞 These looks really good btw!
RIght up my alley. Can't wait to make them. Totally different question: Let's say for the holidays, you'd want to make cocktails for 8 people. Say a Brandy Alexander. I would think it's best to make them one by one, which would mean using a ton of ice to renew in theshaker tin. Is this the correct way, or is there a shortcut I am missing?
How about “ Bee calm and drink on” or The smoky bee keeper” or “Bee calm and smoke if you got’m” (just kidding) Love you channel, my cocktails are so much better because of you. now I’m the “bartender” at all our friends parties. (I also build bars for them as well)
Hey Anders, im helping to plan out a wedding, and is looking for some easy cocktails that can be mixed right in the glass with ice thats fast and easy to pump out, like gintonics. Any chance you could make a vid about this? :D
Hello Anders! I’m new to the channel and binge watching your videos. Since I’m in Chi-Town a decent amount, do you share what bar(s) you tend at? I understand if you don’t but certainly would buy ya a round if you do. Thanks for the info and great quality production.
Hey Anders, thanks for this one! I bought one of this wooden smoke tops some month ago and i do not like the results very much... I have the feeling that the quality of the wood is not that good and that i burn it and add some additional "bad" smoke to the drink. I will maybe try the Viski Smoker! Hopefully they ship to Germany :) Please keep up doing this great videos! Cheers! Oh, and Mary Christmas!

For many folks, I wonder if a more accessible peaty whisky (in both availability and flavor) might be something like Johnnie Walker Double Black.
Another decent scotch is Highland Cream or even Penderyn Celt which is Welsh Whiskey.
If you can find it, Kirkland (Costco) Islay Whisky is amazing for the price (about $35/750ml here in CA)
Legitimately "The Cigar" Is SUCH a delicious cocktail. I think I'm going to have to do that one next, maybe to pink floyd's "Have a Cigar"
I just picked up a bottle of Islay. Definitely going to try that one out!

Sounds great - love the mature cheddar addition! Need to pick up some lavender bitters, but I'll give this one a go. Thanks David!
I've been enjoying a tiki variant that has a fair amount of smoky flavor to it. I call it the Burning Plane:
.5 oz lemon juice
.25 oz lime juice
.5 oz coconut cream
.5 oz peach liquor
.5 oz cointreau
.5 oz Koloa Dark Rum
1.5 oz El Derado 12yr rum
1.75 oz Montelobos mezcal
Shake everything but the mezcal.

Appreciate the support! 🇲🇽
Give it a try please, and do tell me what you think about it
Hey Anders. I’m surprised you didn’t do a Mezcal cocktail for natural smoky flavour. My favourite this Fall being the Sierra Madre Sunrise. Yum.
I will be making all these tonight!
Great video again! A fun fact: Viski = Whiskey in Finnish.
Finally fancy things I can do! Hehe love u Anders
Happy and smoky weekend 😜 Cheers 🥃
Those were some beautiful drinks! Wow video was excellent. Wondering what would be a great Thanksgiving pre-dinner cocktail?❤
Craig at the downstairs bar of the AC Hotel in Madison, WI makes an incredible smoked Old Fashioned (not fruity)
Hi Anders! Three awesome cocktails. I may have to try my hand at smokin'. 😊
I have Visky's glass atomizer, and their Rocket ship shaker.
I want a nice glass atomizer 👍
Love this new channel as I have only just got into making these ;)
A cocktail magician at a local restaurant turned me on to smokey cocktails. I need to add this to my arsenal. Thanks for making these, Anders! And yes... Chicago is brisk now! 🥶
All these cocktails look so amazing. I have to try making them. 😊 no smoked wood though
Can you make vidoes explaining the following... Drambuie, Benedictine, Aquafaba (?), etc. What are they and what are their purposes? Thank you😊
#notificationsquad Super excited to put some of my Laphroaig in a cocktail!
Dang, Anders! Is that new outro music!? Rockin!
I like to think of your intro 'To the Bar!' more as raising a toast to the enjoyment of cocktails, as in 'Here's to you, Bar!' :-)
Yes! You get it 😉
This provides that special feeing we get in the cockles of our hearts, maybe below the cockles, maybe in the sub-cockle area, maybe in the liver, maybe in the kidneys, maybe even in the colon, we don’t know.
Where did you get your bourbon barrel header?
I have been commenting for greg to do a smoke video and you beat him to it. I have been waiting for some good smokey drink inspirations, thanks!
Hope you enjoy the recipes - Cheers!
@@AndersErickson thanks, if you do another on smoke, i had a great drink that had smoke infused ice as the medium.
Yay! Now I have more smoky options other than my smoked old fashioned. :)
Anders, beekeepers use smokers to tend their bees - maybe your smoked Bee's Knees is a "Beekeeper?"
I like it 🐝
You were in rare form today, Anders - like a giddy school boy excited to play with a new toy, and hilarious to watch! Cheers! 🍻
I live in Norway so I can't buy stuff from the US because of the shipping costs, but I am constantly trying to look around the web for alternatives to the websites, crossing fingers I'll find one of those smoke tops or something 🤞
These looks really good btw!
You could use mezcal as well
Absolutely - great call!
How about “ Bee calm and drink on” or The smoky bee keeper” or “Bee calm and smoke if you got’m” (just kidding)
Love you channel, my cocktails are so much better because of you. now I’m the “bartender” at all our friends parties.
(I also build bars for them as well)
Awesome video. Definitely want to try to make Smokey drinks.
Request. Can you make a hot (in temperature) cocktail video.
Hopefully they ship to Germany :)
Please keep up doing this great videos! Cheers!
Oh, and Mary Christmas!
