For the smoke guns the coolest smoking container I saw was a bar that used a modified cake display. They drilled a hole in the bottom of the wooden cake stand, and used a glass display lid to seal the smoke in w/ a finished cocktail.

    Love smoked cocktails!
I think a step in between these that could be added is smoking a small pile of wood chips on top of a plank as opposed to just the plank itself - produces quite a bit more smoke.

A plank of wood for the base structure, a tea filter basket for the, uhh, filter that holds the wood chips. Even accounting for how expensive wood has gotten recently, that's still a far cry from the 50 USD which the SmokeTop costs, and is far easier to wash afterward; though it will lack the clean aesthetics of it, unless you do, like, engravings into it. (that is, assuming you already have all the tools necessary, otherwise the price of a good drill and hole saw bits might level the cost)

Had a caipirinha once with Sakura smoke, they used cherry blossom tea for it with a smoke gun. I’ve also seen a large cloche used over a plate where they burn the wood chips on the plate, set the glass with ice next to to it, cover the whole thing with the cloche, let the smoke do it’s thing, remove it, and pour in the drink. Gets the smoke into the ice and all over the outside of the glass so you taste it with every sip. My personal favorite was a tiki drink served inside a cobbler shaker where it was filled all the way up with crushed ice, decorated, then they put the top of the shaker back on, put some spices on the strainer portion, torched them and put the cap back on. Remove the whole top for the guest, add a sippy cylinder and enjoy.

I really want to get the smoke top, and I generally don't have a problem with spending a premium for a company putting forward a new innovative product, probably doesn't have a ton of volume, and has a lot of marketing costs. BUT it seems like the type of thing that would sell for $10-$15 if it was a common household item sold in a competitive marketplace. Given internet marketing, new product, etc., I'd gladly pay $30-$35. But .... $50 is just too much for what it is.

I use 2 similar cocktail glasses, say whiskey glass for this example. Use the shaker strainer and set it on the first glass, add some wood chips for bbq like cherry and use the torch to catch the chips on fire and top it with that second glass which puts out the fire and now you have 2 smoke saturated glasses to make drinks. Alternatively you can make the drink in the lower glass for the show aspect of it then once done add a large cube and serve.

Hey bro, I smoke a lot of a meat so I feel like there’s a better way of smoking the glasses/drinks. When I make a fire for smoking i don’t introduce any of the smoke in the beginning as I only want the clean burning smoke when the fire is fully developed. I think the smoke would be less over powering if you let the clean burning smoke in instead of the, in my opinion, dirty smoke. As the clean smoke produces a much lighter and enjoyable Smokey flavor. Maybe I’ll put a few glasses on the smoker next time I fire up it up to try it though.

Poor man's method (which I may have found on this channel in the past):
    1. Get wood smoking chips ($3 at Walmart).
    2. Light one chip on fire with a match and place onto a flat, fireproof surface.
    3. Let it burn for a few seconds while you pull your frosted glass out of the freezer.
    4. Invert the glass over the chip. It will quickly burn out and smoke up the glass.
    5. Flip the glass back over and pour the drink in.
A sheet of aluminum foil folded over several times makes a great work surface for this method; freezing the glass helps the smoke stay in the glass.

I have another version of the Smoke Top and find that my Manhattans have an acrid taste rather than a pleasant smokey one. Are there rules of thumb about how much wood chip to use, how long to apply the torch, or how long to let the chips smoulder? Also, I’ve been using martini glasses for this. Are old fashioned glasses better for smoking?

    • @alvarojm750
      @alvarojm750 3 года назад

Flaring open glasses like a martini won’t hold the smoke as well so they work better for mild flavor. As for your problem with the taste... they might have put some sort of coating on the inside of the wood chip area, I’d hit it with your torch to burn it, char it all up and then scrub it.
Edit: as for wood chips and time. I like to fill the reservoir half way and hit it with my torch on max from 1 - 2 inches away from the tip of the flame. Burns the chips less harshly by using more of a hot air approach.
      Good luck. 👍

God I had to word this 5 different ways, Google didn't like the way I searched it. But I finally found one of these and need answers.
I tried googling how gay do you have to be to use blow torches and wood to drink liquor? Couldn't find anything.
With that being said, how gay do you have to be to burn wood and use torches to drink alcohol? 🤣 Holy hell this is gay.
