I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you for this information, I am Currently having problems with my manufacture Warranty from my front end of my truck falling apart Literally! With this information I think I have more of a fighting chance!
I’ve got a 2020 Sierra, and I’m looking to put the 22 inch snowflake rims on it. It’s going to require a 12Mm spacer on the front, will it void the factory warranty?
BTBRV Important video. There are good dealers out there and terrible ones. Most people will not be able to fight a large company on a warranty issue. This video is important because it can inform the consumer to have that conversation if and when it comes.
I worked as the Service Sales manage for an Oldsmobile dealer for many years. Using non factory parts gets into some grey areas that you should consider. On occasion a vehicle is involved in an accident and the owner feels that the fault was because of vehicle design. Attorneys and factory reps get involved to solve the issues. And this is especially true if the cause seems to be a repeating issue with other like vehicles from that manufacturer. As an example, Toyota had the issue with engines reving and causing the drivers to have wrecks. Toyota did have a recall to check the location of the floor mats and in some cases anchored the driver floor mat to prevent it from wedging under the accelerator pedal. An after market mat that will not correctly stay in place and might cause a similar situation may be blamed and the manufacturer may say that they will not be responsible. While this seems rather simple, a non factory part that may contribute to an accident may render your warranty useless in the situation if you are seeking help from the factory. Lifting a vehicle beyond what the vehicle was designed for and adding large diameter tires will in some way alter the handling characteristics such that the manufacturer will not be responsible should the operator of the vehicle loose control and have an accident because of the suspension and tire modifications. This is a remote chance but manufacturers get involved in situations more often than you might suspect. I would advise to always contact the manufacturer directly, not just the dealer, before making modifications if you are concerned about voiding a warranty. I would not take an aftermarket installers word about some one else's warranty. Something you should ask your aftermarket installer, do they provide a written warranty/guarantee that they will be responsible should the modification that they perform on your vehicle be responsible for an accident. There is much more than a factory warranty to be concerned about should after market parts installed by a third party be the cause of an accident.
A warranty doesn't cover accidents though? That would be your insurance. Unless you're saying in case you want to sue the manufacturer of your vehicle because you think their parts caused the accident, but I don't think that's what a warranty is for. Last I checked a warranty covers the replacement costs of 'defective parts'. Like I just bought a new truck 3 months ago from GM and they told me a story of a guy in Arizona that had a bumper to bumper warranty but his air conditioning unit went out after like a year, but they told him it's not covered because he used the ac every day all day because it's ways hot in Arizona and thus the ac unit naturally wore itself out and was not considered a defective part. Which is kind of really dumb lol.
This is another video without the newer intro. Not that my individual opinion means much, but I did like it. I always liked the one where the camera was looking up while you drove over, and add in the the recent flyover shots which are nice. No criticism, just saying that someone out there misses it.
I'll agree that it had some cool shots but dang was it way too long. Glad the short one is back. Just a few seconds is plenty, regardless of what shot it is, IMHO. He could make multiple intros with those different clips and use a different one on each video but all together it's too much.
Just because they can’t, doesn’t mean they won’t try to void the warranty. If the issue is remotely similar to a modification you did then they will most likely try to void the warranty. If it’s clearly different (like engine and a window goes out), then they probably won’t. It’s great to have these “laws”, but unless you have a lawyer in retainer, then Good luck with paying the lawyer fees to pursue litigation with the dealership. Most won’t bother.
The question is something else down the drive line voids it,like chiping your engine, if the design of the engine is not able to handle the horse power increase.i ask if I could put a oil chatch can on my Eco boost ford ,the dealer said ANYTHING other than stock voids.so you want a high performance ,get a chip, and a attorney 🤔
Something I was wondering was what diesel truck would be the best to start with? Specifically for someone who has never owned one... I always wanted one but the fear of several things have always kind of lingered so I never have... -Price... More specifically the price for oil changes, def fluid, fuel, ect... (I've been told countless times that paying for stuff like this goes up dramatically however everybody who has told me this has never owned a diesel so I'm unsure if it goes up as insanely as the state or if it's at a acceptable level for most who have owned one.) -Size... I've never owned a 3/4 or 1 ton truck so I'm not sure if it would prove to be to difficult to (drive let alone park) in a city or town. -noise... I believe a big diesel should sound hefty but every diesel in my area is to loud to really start up in the morning without waking up near by neighbors. -long distance travel (without a load)... I go fairly long distance from family so would it prove to be to uncomfortable to drive?
Just a bit of rebuttal on your question. So i have owned several diesel trucks over the years and i can say that I believe they all have been improved over the years. There is no “best” one to go with. Now you have so many options with all the 1/2 ton trucks getting the smaller diesel engines. But if you are talking about the 3/4 and up, then make no mistake, the big three are all making good engines. As far as the cost of maintaining, yes the cost goes up a bit. I did some research figuring out whether it would pay for me to do my usual maintenance myself or let my dealership do it. My dealership has a Quick Lane and they are so very competitive with pricing. Example, my oil change for 6.7 powerstroke is $80. Thats for filter and 13.5 qts of 15w40. I priced it out at several local parts houses and walmart. It would cost the same for me to do it. I also priced out my fuel filters and it costs me about $20 extra for the quick lane to do it. I am ok with that so I don’t have to deal with Fords pain in the ass 2 fuel filters. DEF is cheap. Unless you are hauling big loads long distances, you may fill this about every 6-7k miles. As far as comfort, i have had this f250 for almost a year and my longest trip so far was about 700 miles one way. I went from south Louisiana up thru the ozarks into Missouri, and i had no real complaints. Personally i feel that all three makes have done well with refining the ride quality of the 3/4 and up trucks. Yeah they are a little bigger and sometimes can be a little harder to park, but it ain’t that bad. As far as for noise, the new diesel engines have so dam much emissions controls on them, you can’t hardly hear them crank. So as for the your neighbors, the hell with them. They will get over it. Cummins, duramax, powerstroke.... all good engines, which truck do you like better?
Vasha Spasitelya I’m going through exactly what u are. I been shopping for future FT RV ing. I drove the Ford F-250. Rough ride but you have to realize it’s built to tow heavy weight. I’ve asked about 100 people and 97% said buy ford and 3% Chevy. Not one complaint so far by a Ford owner. . Gas to Diesel NO comparison. A diesal will last you 200-300 miles or more well taken care of. A gas engine half that before major issues. But the upfront cost is rediculous , almost double. So that difference will take you 150,00 miles driven before you make it up in fuel savings etc.... no one will tell you that. I been researching for over a year. A lot to consider. Gas HD trucks have come a long way also. Making up that gap between it and Diesel engines far as weight carry and pull. If you consider dodge there’s on,y ONE combo to go with in their brand. Cummins engine with Aisin Tranny! Period! Any other combo in that brand huge mistake. Their tranny is junk ! Ask mechanics, owners etc.... on all brands like I do. GL
I can tell you one thing a newer like 2012+ diesel runs pretty dang quiet if it's stock. I've seen newer diesels idle quieter than gas motors lol. As far as added costs, and you can check these in your local area, but let's say gas is $3.00 a gallon, then diesel would probably be let's say $3.30 if this is a factual case, you're paying 30 cents more a gallon on a 35 gallon tank. Which is $10.50 extra a tank. And if you drove it for 200k miles at 15 mpg, it would cost an extra $4,000 over 200k miles. I don't have a diesel so I don't know how much def fluid gets used but I've seen it for like 3 dollars a gallon. And from what I've heard from my sister that owns a 2012 1 ton duramax, an oil change can be $150+ where a normal gas engine depending what kind you get, probably 40-70 dollars. But you also have to consider that at least for a new GM diesel, it's an extra 10k addon charge when you build one online (although you may get different and or better rebates). What I can tell you is I bought a new 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab standard 6.6' bed 6.0L with the 4.10 rear end about 3 months ago and I've put a little over 8k miles on it and I think so far it works pretty great. Rides good. I get anywhere from 8 to 12 mpg typically, and as high as 15 mpg once highway. I've actually pulled 14-15k pounds which is maxing the truck out, was a 22' flat bed with a 2011 fee cab long bed dually chevy duramax on it and it did fine, a little sketchy on turns and over bumps lol. But going about 30 miles on a county highway I got about 7-8 mpg pulling that much weight, which is pretty good. But anyway, just to some math and see what the costs are going to be in your area. To me a diesel is only worth it if you get a new one, or a very good price on a used one. Diesels are great for the fact you can run 250k miles plus with no repairs, but if you buy a used one with 200k miles already, you get all the repair Bill's and none of the benefits really, unless it's a good price lol.
My dad bought a 2017 ram 2500 crew cab diesel 4x4 and it’s super easy to drive around town and park. And going 80 on the interstate not towing anything it gets 21-23 mpg
Any experience with adding the leveling kit with the Airlift airbags? I've got an 2018 F350 duelly hauling an 16k gooseneck Grand Design. I'm temped to add the leveling kit & 5000 ultra bags but afraid I might get some positive rake when hooked up.
Granted, it was a motorcycle, but I had bought an after-market part at a dealership, sold by the motorcycle manfuacture, and installed by the dealership. When it brok and caused damage to the trunk of my bike it was a fight to get the dealership to repair the damage under the warrantee. So maybe it was the dealership but I just assume that "driving it off the lot" will void my warantee.
Possible case in point ? I have a 2010 Nissan frontier. Nissan recommended that I install a transcooler on it(because of a design flaw)I had another reputable mechanic install it(because of price and convenience).my transmission went out right after(well under my mileage warranty). Nissan said they wouldn't warranty it because I didn't have them replace transcooler ? Sucked !
hey BTBR, great video, and it brings a question to mind, if you don't already have a video you've made (maybe I just haven't found it) could you do a video on trailer brakes? how too use the factory installed trailer breaking system (specifically for ppl like me who haven't committed to buying a camper yet but want to know more of the "how to's") as well as what might be after market installs that could affect the manufacture warrantee on trailer breaking systems. please and thank you very much.
I worked at a dealership when I got out of high school. Guy wanted a lift kit put on and they told the guy the warranty will be voided with the lift. But he was good to put a leveling kit on it. May have changed as this has been a few years.
Good topic to touch on. I wish that all the same applied to ripping off all the emission crap and tuning the ecm/tcm. It was strongly suggested by my better half to buy extended warranty on this f250 i bought last year. So i have to get close to the end of 100k bumper2bumper before i get to go do all the good stuff. However, it is well known that usually by 80-90k miles, there is either a failure or some type of cleaning required on the exhaust train with these fords. I have quite a few friends and relatives that have different model years of the current stroke, and they all have the same testimony. How long do you plan to keep the 450 btbrv?
I don't think the person be asking the questions understands what we are want to know about such as will raising your truck above a two inch level, putting beefed up taller coil overs or even another leaf void a manufacturer's warranty or aftermarket lifetime power train warranty. So far , I have been told that anything over a two inch level will definitely void both especially regarding things like "transmission pumps " and transmissions etc.

I have watched so many of your videos and iam very grateful. I have narrowed my truck purchase to a dodge 2500 or ford 250. However, iam so disappointed in my choices of good manufacture of 35ft 40ft fifth wheel toy hauler. So without feeling comfortable with new toy hauler I don’t need the truck. I cannot get pass the many current complaints of poor service and terrible quality control. Seems price of unit makes no difference in these complaints. Need help, lol
Kevin Scott save some money buy a used toy Hauler. You will see how it’s held up and see what you can live with or live without. In many cases they will have added many options or upgrades that cost extra money and you can see if they were really needed or made a difference.
Voiding a warranty is a common scare tactic and misconception. The Magnusson-Moss Act makes it so dealers must prove that modifications directly caused a failure in order to deny a warranty claim. Even if you lift the truck and the dealer proves your lift caused a failure of the factory driveshaft or something, it would only void that specific claim and not the entire warranty.
Devin Trudeau unless you get the cab chassis then you can get the V-10. Ive seen cab chassis where they then got a take off bed put on and you almost wouldn’t know it wasn’t a diesel.
I disagree. If an OEM drivetrain can't handle a bit of added stress during a typical 36,000 to 50,000 mile warranty when the manufacturer has allowed for tons of additional payload and towing stress... that should be covered. Now... If you are towing 30,000 pounds with a lifted truck, maybe you have a point.
I think it was sabotage on the tractor for an excuse to use the compressor

Does it?
Does leveling your truck 2in void your warranty?
Does Canada have these laws or policies aswell? Great to know,I am in the market for a f150 and wanting to level it.

Some dealers in my area are known to jerk people around on warrantees ill have to look up those laws
Randy Bryant probably in most places
Just heard on another channel of a circumstance where a Nissan dealer denied a claim on a transmission warranty due to the owner failing to rotate tires. I'd like to hear both sides of that one.
WTF we never owned a Nissan for that reason
Bds has a no fine print lifetime warranty on their products
A little common sense never hurts (I know, a difficult quality to define, let alone find these days). Upgraded shocks, a size or two bigger tires, a bumper with a wench should not raise the eyebrows of a dealer service department. Add a diesel performance tuner and you could very well void your engine/drivetrain warranty, many on the diesel truck forums report this happening, again common sense...

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
Is your truck gas or diesel?
Brunner213 F450 pickups are only available with the 6.7 liter powerstroke diesel
Devin Trudeau unless you get the cab chassis then you can get the V-10. Ive seen cab chassis where they then got a take off bed put on and you almost wouldn’t know it wasn’t a diesel.
I don’t get it. Is there really a dealer going to void your powertrain warranty because you get Line X sprayed onto your bed? This is so beyond me.
I'm not touching this topic with a ten foot pole. The only thing I will say is that it can be a very complicated subject.
Putting a lift and larger tires put added strain on the entire drivetrain. Warranty should be voided.
They sell trucks with lifts on them.
It seems with this many subscribers he would have a way to reply to his viewers? At this number of viewers we are now customers are we not.
lol, If you had 500+ comments per day, you'd understand.
How about website with faq. I did get a reply lol

👍
Hold on...you drive an $80000 truck and a $100 lawn mower????
lol, not my mower...or lot.
I find it funny, you buy a truck every few weeks, but own a cheap ass lawn mower for a huge property. LOL
Wasn't my mower.
First. Good topic. Thanks
Common sense.
Second
Man let the guy talk, why have the camera on him if you're just going to talk the whole way through? Very annoying.
he asked me to talk. Some people aren't as comfortable doing the talking on camera. The more you know my friend.
