- Today, I decided to Spice Up My Life because I listened to the Spice Girls' second studio album Spice World!
While I think that I enjoy the first album a tad bit more I still found this album a fun listen and I've grown to love it even more with a re-listens.

Spiceworld is the second studio album by English girl group the Spice Girls. It was released on 1 November 1997 by Virgin Records. Its music incorporates dance-pop music and production. The album became a commercial success worldwide, lengthening the so-called "Spicemania" of the time. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, with first-week sales of 190,000 and shipped 1.4 million copies in two weeks. The album also reached number one in 13 countries, while peaking inside the top three in Australia, Canada, France, Switzerland and the United States. Spiceworld has sold over 13 million copies worldwide, making it one of the world's best-selling albums by a girl group.
The album spawned four singles, all of which saw commercial success. Its lead single "Spice Up Your Life" became an international success, peaking in the top five positions in most countries. It was followed by the singles "Too Much", "Stop", and "Viva Forever", all of which attained commercial success on the charts. To promote the album, the Spice Girls embarked on their debut headlining concert tour, titled the Spiceworld Tour, covering Europe and North America for a total of 97 dates between February and September 1998.
Viva forever is the best song by any girl band ever. Period. Just epic and those harmonies.... Way underappreciated in my opinion. Do the music video and the live version with the children's choir please👌❤️

The Lady Is A Vamp is an homage to all the women in history that represents girl power, paying tribute to all the glamorous women in Hollywood in the past and up to the Spice Girls in 1997. That song was the end title to their Spice World movie.

Their first album was very sexual, dark and hip hop. This is when they realize their fans were kids, so they Switch it up to a more bright pop and r&b family friendly music hahaha

Totally this album was more mainstream than "Spice", "Spiceworld" was crafted to become a hit pop album; the girls were at their highest point of fame, still carrying the success of the first album, they were making a movie at the same time they were writing and recording this album, had promotion with so many companies, including Pepsi for which they recorded Step to Me and used Move Over as a promo single on the commercials - they were everywhere, chips, candies, cameras, deodorants, dolls... the world started to seeing them more like a product rather than a musical band, so they made fun of it on the video for "Spice up your life".
Geri left the group while they were on tour, she was on the european part and left right as they were about to go to America. She missed the grand finale of the tour at Wembley Stadium. I do wanna say this about Geri, before you go to album #3 (and if you start seeing their individual skills and vocals, Geri was not the best dancer or best singer out of the five of them, but she was the best one at saying what to do, what to promote, she even was the main writer for their songs. When she left, she took the "spice" with her (funny if you think she actually came up with the name for the band). Once you listen to their 3rd album, you might wanna check Geri's first solo album, and I think you'll see how much influence she had over the lyrics and sounds of the group. Her solo album sounded more like a Spice Girls record than the girls actual third album.
You talked about their live performances, I highly suggest to watch some of their "Live in Istanbul" performances, this was a two night concert they did for Pepsi in october 1997, and was a taste of what the Spiceworld tour in 1998 was going to be, there's full recordings of some european shows with Geri still in the group and also the Wembley Stadium without her, so you can see how the dynamics changed in the group.

@@nicosantana7277 lol I think it’s about losing a person (the kid with glasses dies) and then the other kid take the “soul” of his friend and goes to this kind of graveyard where there are all these bigs capsules and the vending machine and he “bury” him . I think its makes sense because of the lyrics too :)

I think you would REALLY REALLY appreciate Geri Halliwell's debut album Schizophonic which she released in 1999 after she left the band. It has a sound far closer to Spiceworld than Forever. (Geri was the lead writer of Stop and Viva Forever).

Thank you for your reaction to Spice and Spice World. I loved it. Now there is one more studio album they have the Third one called Forever . Which came out in November 2000 . It’s very R&B influenced album. Only 4 of the girls recorded it as Geri Halliwell left the group in 1998 . Forever includes a Song called Goodbye which actually came out in December 1998 . Geri left the group just before they released Viva Forever in July 1998 so the 4 remaining girls saying Goodbye to her with the Goodbye single which was included the Forever album 2 years later.

I love your reaction because it was so genuine... now, you have to have a look to their music videos (Stop has a pretty nice choreography), Too Much has footage from their movie and the video reflects them in different movies scenarios... you have to have a look to their live concerts (Melanie C vocals on Too Much, Viva Forever and her a ad-libs in pretty much all the songs are amaaaazing), you have to have a look on her movie to understand their individual personalities better and then, their solo stuff... You need to watch their performance of “Move over in Istanbul” you will really really figure out how spice they are, it was amazing and beautifully done they are crazyyy. To make you teased they are wearing astronaut suit at the beginning til at near end and ripped it out in the end of the song leads to wanna be performance. If you see that performance you’re gonna watch it over and over just like their performance in Brit awards

_Spiceworld_ was that damn follow up album. For me, "Never Give Up on the Good Times" would have been a perfect single. It is feel good and just has that jam to it. Your reaction to "Stop," especially at the chorus, makes me so happy! That smile is life! Watch the music video and you will never NOT do the choreography to the song. And "Viva Forever" is that bitch. Yes, that song is THAT bitch! They did what? THAT!

Um , " ginger spice" was the essence of Spice girls.. after she left , they ended ... They were never the same again until she re joined.. also, Geri had continued number 1 singles as a solo artist another 4 actually.. if you listen to her album 'scizophonic' you will hear alot of spice vibes .. she made them what they were.

STOP live performance at Brits Award 98 was so cool! (Incase if you haven't watched yet).

The first album is defo my favourite but there are hints of the first album here with denying for example, but it was more global by this point. I love the Motown stuff. Stop is one of my favs as is too much. Too much from the AMA awards is soooo good. Also, I did see Viva Forever the musical. As a theatre kid in my past and an avid theatre go’er, I though it was amazing. I had planned to go to London to see it as I live 500 miles away in Scotland. So once I heard it was closing I got tickets for the final performance. It was sooo good. Julie (mama mia) was there as was Jennifer Saunders of Absolutely Fabulous and French and Saunders fame as she wrote the play. Two of the Spice girls were there too (Emma, baby spice and Mel C, sporty spice) sitting in front of me. I was freaking out. Also, please watch their live in Istanbul gig as this was their very first live concert. Then live at Wembley in 98, this was the ending to their world tour a few months after ginger left. Scary spice and posh spice are also pregnant during this gig. Then Christmas in Spiceworld I think might be their best gig and would be the one to watch if you were picking just one. The band is amazing, their vocals are on point and the choreography is amazing and it’s in the round so that’s always fun. Hope this helps. Would love to see this reaction.

This album is a lot more eclectic than their first album with songs inspired by Latin, Motown, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, Disco, Spanish Guitar, Jazz, & Swing.
Originally "Never Give Up On The Good Times" was meant to be a Double-A single with "Viva Forever". This idea got scrapped after Ginger suddenly quite the group. Ginger has a solo verse in the song and they wouldn't have been able to lipsync the song in performances.
"Move Over" was a song that was already written and used in Pepsi Commercials. Spice Girls had an Endorsement deal with Pepsi so they took the song and added verses and new lyrics to it before putting it on the album.
"Step to Me" was a leftover rejected song from their first album. It was used by Pepsi as a special promotional Single in the UK. If you sent in 25 Pepsi ringpulls, you could get a special CD single of "Step to Me".
The Only Spice Girls concerts officially available on DVD are "Istanbul" and "Wembley Stadium", however the official Istanbul DVD doesn't include the entire concert but just a few songs. But, you can find professionally filmed full concerts online and on RUclips including "Istanbul", "Spiceworld Tour", & "Earls Court". "Return of the Spice Girls" and "Spiceworld 2019" never got professionally filmed but you can find fan filmed versions online.

In the UK, Step to Me was a limited edition cd in which you needed to collect ring pulls from Pepsi cans and send them off to Pepsi, they then posted back the cd, it was a big promotion during the summer of 97

@@SalRocha Youre very welcome :D - Im so glad to know that they can still make an impact on todays generation really. :') - I grew up with them and even if i sadly dont listen to them as much as I did once they still left a huge impression and impact on my life too and their songs are still stuck in my mind. Even after not hearing them for a long while by watching your reactions I could still sing along to them as if ive heard them everyday since. (I just sometimes get a nostalgia trip so spice girls became my search for that lately)
So I went to several of their concerts during the US tour. They opened up with 'If You Can't Dance' from the first album.

Move over was a Pepsi commercial!!!! Generation next was Pepsi's tag line for a couple years. Many artists used this line in thier promo songs for Pepsi commercials during this era

In Argentina we never got the bonus tracks they got in Japan like Step to me (or Seremos 1 los 2 in the first album) and Step to me is one of my all time favorites!
I've listened to the Spanish version of 2 Become 1. I thought it was very nice!
*Hello from ARGENTINA , I'm Valery (absolutely adoring Ginger spice , dolly face. hot hair and bombshell body she's just the one and only) so, there's something senxually magical about ''Too Much'' song in the album (while ''Two Become One'' song is more romantic deep beat) and ''Viva Forever'' (wich literally means forever alive , takes you more to the ''Mama '' song style both of these two songs are just simply SOULFUL) I believe that the first album was totally mature sounding like and this second album absolutely a bubblegum R&B fresh and fun style , now regards the song ''Move Over'' that's the only song in this whole album that sounds FUNKY roughly powerful in attitude plus guitar rock cords pushes it all the way there (one very particular song that one). So basically in this album there's a lot of sounds flavoursalad , lot of latin in this one some funky bad ass, some melodical groove vintage touch ON and even an Opera flav at the end , absolutely a whole journey this secod album , you can easily see that this like a way more profund work than the first album (first cd is so mature and holds bit more of the ''poppy'' style all the way , so I preffer Spice World album as a way more interesting work in music tho and my fav songs in this one are Too Much (such a sensual MAGNET in it) Do It (that enthuisiastic spiritual,awesome sense of anticipation in it and wow MelC notes) and Viva Forever just deep soulful , thanks!*

I think this is one of the best pop albums of all time! 10 killer songs from a band on top of the world and sounded like it! Ending the album naming themselves as 90s feminist icons was complete genius. As for concerts, their first concert ever Live in Istanbul is on DVD (half the songs are missing), then there’s the legendary Live at Wembley Stadium which is in full, as well as their Christmas in Spiceworld show; both are without Geri/Ginger. Their reunion show in New York from 2008 just leaked as well!

I don't know if anyone mentioned this but to me Geri's first solo album Shisophonic is a bit like a continuation of Spice World album. It has, I would say, analogical tracks - that's why I like the record.

"Spiceworld" is their most eclectic album. They ventured into diverse music genres and faced a bit of motown, latin, R&B...again, disco, rock. They have three very diverse albums and I agree that the first is more reflective and mature whereas Spiceworld is more fun. I love the diversity music wise and that Mel C sings the most in this album. I like all the songs equally except maybe two album tracks.

Step To Me was a way better song than Move Over. if anything, Move Over should have been left off the album
There are 3 official live recordings of the Spice Girls shows.One is their first full live concert (Live in Istambul), there is a broadcast version that has the full concert and a cut version (6 songs shorter) that was released on DVD. Second is Live from Wembley, the last night of the Spice World Tour, was released on DVD. And a show from 1999 from their Christmas in Spiceworld Tour, live from Earls Court, it was broadcast live on TV but never got a DVD. There is also a bootleg full concert from the first reunion tour (2017), it's pro shot but it's not mixed right and whatnot, it's the recording for the arena screens so not properly edited.

Yes, Track 6 “move over” was the Pepsi promo song. I believe the bonus track you listened to “Step to Me” was also a Pepsi song not released in the US. The girls made a cute little commercial for Pepsi using the Move Over track. It like a very mini music video

The word "viva" from viva forever is a Spanish word that in its contesto, in the song means "to remember a unique moment in your life" it is a Spanish expression that we use as "may the good things that I lived in those lives live forever years ", the song viva forever wanted to reflect the transition from sweet youth to adulthood ,,, when they realized in their album" spice world "that ivan very quickly and fame and everything was devouring them for that I caused the separation of Geri Halliwell ,,, there is even another word in Spanish in this song that say "hasta Mañana¡" which means in Spanish "until tomorrow¡¡" in the context of the song means it does not mean tomorrow I will see you again but , It is a final goodbye but they do not want to say goodbye as if it were a final goodbye but rather as "I hope to meet you again one day" so then the phrase of the song "always be mine" follows, the song is about the farewell of youth , why It is something that cannot be recovered anymore, the spice girls wanted to reflect that their career was not like before since its inception and from "spice up your life" where they wanted to eat the world with positive energy and support girls and feminism hence the famous "girl power" arises because they said in an interview that they saw that in the music industry at the time of the 70s, 80s, 90s ,,,,, they were dominated and controlled by men which they did not want to allow them to take decisions based only on "male gender" but on the woman being more protagonist and more independent ,,,,, Viva forever is my favorite song of all the songs of spice girls, besides the flamenco influences of the Spanish guitar and the Spanish words They are due to the influence and idea of Geri halliwell because she said in an interview that I do not remember well if her mother or father were Spanish, one of them and some other relative is also of Spanish roots and that she traveled on vacation to Spain. I like this album, my fav songs is NGUOTGT love this song and the song Do it remember me like a song of the Jackson Five (do not why) but like too…but to me the Spice album is the best I adore al that R&B, funky sounds and my fav songs are say you ‘ll be there and Somthing kinda funny is going on, good video thanks….and like other people said, you need to do a video of Mel C album or songs (she’s may fav)

I love your reaction videos and look forward to watching them. You are always so happy and smiley which is great. I personally prefer Step To Me over Move Over. They have performed a rockier version of it Live. In relation to filmed concerts look at Spice Girls Live in Wembley. Geri had left by that stage and Mel B and Victoria were both pregnant.

The generation X song was created first for a Pepsi commercial and end up in the album as a single, generation X is my generation, I was 20 years old at that time, so very close in age with them, for some reason back in the day they have a name to generations on the space of decades ( generation x, for example, is anyone born between the mid-60s to 1980 ) but nowadays every 10 years you got a new "generation" and generation name

Viva Forever wasn't released as a single in the USA.
A CRIME
Geri and Melanie B. both grew up listening to Motown style music so it's pretty evident in their 2nd album that some of their songs (i.e. Stop, Too Much) have that Motown feel to it. Plus, "Too Much" is the song opener to their film of the same name (Spice World), so there's also that classic film noir vibe to that song (hence, the orchestration and the way they sing so sensually). One of their best ballads IMO. While "Mama" is a great ballad, that song connects with young girls and their mothers, which is why that song was such a big hit in the UK.
