The followup about qualified hulks missing MVS was fantastic and you absolutely had him on the ropes without a suitable answer because that's one that slipped past the PR guy. If you had reporter's instinct, you would have dug in, but there's a reason they having WestDavengers host this q&a and not the press. More importantly, when are the owners compensated because that evidence can be held up for YEARS. He mentions this over and over again about how he can't talk about the investigation. Yes, he absolutely can reveal quite a lot about the investigation that he's not revealing, including much of what he was asked here because HE is the one who commissioned it!! Kroll's bread and butter isn't in investigating the suspect at all. They can't detain and question him, they can't look at his sales history, their DM's, none of that unless it's willingly coughed up, which it won't be. Kroll's speciality is in investigating the process loopholes and the personnel working for CGC who might have allowed such fraud to be perpetrated. It's a PRIVATE investigation, and to me, that's the biggest question of them all. Why does CGC refuse to say whether they are working with any law enforcement? He misspoke when he said they plan to prosecute. They don't have the power to do that. It's not like TV where one party presses charges on another. He also repeated the ol' "fullest extent of the law". Which law? If that was true, then why haven't they contacted the feds? Why are they telling owners to send them the books and email them about it instead of at least ALSO providing contact information for the FBI or FTC? The plaques... Jesus. You should have refused them. Do they intend to hand one out to everyone else that spent dozens of hours poring over data trying doing Kroll's work for them? A job that SHOULD be done by actual criminal investigators? I ask because I'm one of those people, "agamoto". I was REALLY hoping you'd go deeper into the history of CCS and CGC and the conspiracy theiry of how pressing used to be restoration, but not for all of CGC's high rollers, but that didn't happen. The interview wouldn't have lasted much longer had you asked that one though. No, everyone, that interview was NOT amazing, it was not putting a human face on things, it was a pure public relations play.
All good points. An acquaintance who owned every Marvel from 1961 - 1968 had nightmarish dealings with CGC. Poor handling, using uninformed, underpaid underlings to grade the books who didn't conform to their own standards and checklist for what grade a book should receive.. What a grift. Comic books are meant to be read, not put into plastic coffins to be dead.
While perhaps a little too critical at times, this is a truly excellent post that summarizes some of the very important questions that need to be asked. They won’t ever be answered unless the CGCs feet are held up to the fire. 🔥. For me the biggest question remains about the holder. If it’s this easy to open and swap, NO ONE has ANY idea how many bad books are out there. No book in the current holder can ever really be deemed authentic unless CGC has photos from when they graded it.
All great points but I would also ask about their plans for a new tamper evident slab and their plans to freely re-slab ALL previously slabbed books. If they don't do this, the value of all pre-scam books will tank. I will not pay for their overpriced service to re-slab my book because of their failure nor will I send any more books.
The brand recovery effort begins. Do not believe “we have the situation contained” line. They didn’t know or claimed not to kniw about this situation. “We saw trends” they saw absolutely nothing until it was pointed out to them. They haven’t got a clue how many people are doing this or how many books there really are. All they have is what was pointed out to them. I have zero faith in CGC.
@@horvathsogranfume658 plastic and promises… unkept ones. Lol It’s sad. I have graded and raw so I’m not ideologically against them but boy… I won’t be buying any of my big book graded from this point on.
So when he said 'this is not an inside job' he was only referring to this particular scam, not the other one that's just become public (and all the others we don't know about yet).
Even though there was a bad apple that defrauded many people, CGC is still responsible for slacking on this issue. Questionable grading and quality control of items received are all issues as well. The bad apple realized you were not paying attention and kept playing CGC. I still don't. Trust grading companies, likely never will. The whole 9.9 and 9.8 subject is so silly. Just be honest and say you got a 9.8 crack and resubmit for another charge to try for the 9.9. What BS. I feel it is a racket that collectors allowed to become the monster it is today. Oh well.
The 9.9 prescreen idea is cool and all… but one could interpret this pivot as conveying: “we know that people love 9.9’s, so we’re going to give out way more of them.” I agree that the 9.8/9.9 discrepancy often seems arbitrary and there is a tacit admission of the fact that it’s probably not considered by the average grader for the average book as often as it SHOULD be… but let’s all just get prepared for 9.9’s to become much more common, and therefore less special and valuable. Be careful what you wish for!
@@horvathsogranfume658 It was a misdirection to the angry mob. Looks like it has succeeded too. The community at large is to blame for not holding accountability. They wanna make a glut of 9.9s.....watch the 9.8s tank and everyone and their brother resubmit....AT their own cost to CGC to get the latest "fix".
I'm getting a "We've investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing" vibe here. I'm still very skeptical that there was no one inside of CGC that was involved in this.
I am an expert in restoration and 36 years in the comic book business. I'M 53. I must say this gentleman Mr. 9.9 is one of the most well spoken and non- combative conversationist I have ever heard. I have friends like comictom , Travis knokes(coffee and comics with bueller) and even when they interview and ask questions aren't this smoothly gental! Meaning most people when they ask questions it almost comes across in the end. Argumentative and sometimes even uncomfortable. But I tell you what if you were a cop you'd get a confession out of me buddy. That's how smooth I think you are. I'm just giving you this compliment because the truth is what it is and I can see character from a mile away. It's the one gift that God gave me. It has kept me safe all my life. And I tell you that I wish everyone around me would have the spoken demeanor that you have. I didn't want to go on a rant and rave about all this cgc stuff. I just wanted you to know that I took notice on your verbal behavior that I think everyone should imitate and adopt. Anyway, hope one day to meet you. Megacon is coming up so maybe I will be able to have a conversation with you. It would be my pleasure. You could look me up under Tony Oquendo under Instagram. If you ever want to talk comics. There's tons of videos of me out there on RUclips. So that should give you a character reference. Have a spectacular day, senior 99
What an absolutely incredible message to be receiving and reading, thank you so very much. Sincerely, I am moved by this. Just really, really want you to know how appreciated it is. Thank you 🙏🏼😌. Hope all is well and absolutely looking forward to speaking to you again! Thank you for taking the time to share such encouraging words!
Also, just a quick shoutout. At the end of the interview Matt stated that they would reimburse those affected but would be keeping those affected books and not be cracking the case to preserve evidence?? You correctly called him out on this and Matt then responded with a bullshit answer. Earlier in the interview Matt stated that if you sent in your book and it was found to not be tampered with that it would be returned to the submitter. How is it that they can determine if a book has been tampered, correctly graded, switched, or other if they do not intend to open these books to investigate??? Something smells fishy!!! Matt gave contradictory statements in the same interview. Now why would he do this??
CGC just filed a lawsuit against two former employees for upgrading their own books and stealing high-grade labels. Matt Nelson was lying in this interview. He said no employees were involved in reholdering, meanwhile his company was already investigating former employees.@@melw2100
Thanks for the interview guys! Just wanted to say that I felt that Matt Nelson and his responses felt mostly disingenuous and were definitely self serving. Like his comment of only 350 issues being affected out of 10 million collectibles graded by CGC is minuscule shows his lack of care and understanding. If I have one of these books on the list or any others that are currently not mentioned on this incomplete list than I can care less about your above statement because it now affects me 100%. Matt Nelson’s insensitive statement is basically stating that collateral damage caused by his companies lack of security checks is acceptable because the number is currently relatively low. If your entire company is based on protecting integrity and fraud and your business and its flaws are being exposed to deceive and defraud then Mr Nelson isn’t any number above 0 unacceptable?. Can you imagine if a big fast food corporation said well we sell 10 million hamburgers per day and only 350 people died from food poisoning on average? Ridiculous!
Absolutely! I think that is why they are not cracking these cases. They don’t want to admit or show their incompetence and also don’t want to open the flood gates to how easily their product/services were used to deceive the collecting community. This would call almost every case or collectible that they have encased into question and they know it.
Comicwiz here, thanks Dave for the shout out, and to you and Manu for this important interview. It's an important interview for the hobby during a turbulent period, and thanks Matt for putting a human touch point to this situation.
Thanks for the work you guys have done to get us to this point, but 1 thing I wish you guys asked was why there isn't a seperate census for things like Mark jewelers and Canadian price variants like there is for pence variants, seeing an uptick on the census of the books in question would have possibly caught this earlier.
Damn that’s a great point. I wonder if that can even be quantified now, since I’m not sure how accurate their historic records are. Going forward though… would be nice to see! Maybe with some disclaimer on the census saying the date that the actually count and separation started so people don’t think it’s all of them.
When they started labeling slabs as a "newsstand edition" I thought they were getting their own census, when I found out that wasn't the case I was scratching my head lol whats the point you know? Thanks again for the interview and discovering this scam 👏👏👏
9.9 pre-screen is just a money grab just disgusting let's destroy the whole 9.8 market value to try to make more money for a corporation Matt Nelson destroying the reputation of cgc and also not answering really anything questions about the re holder scam
@@pcorey182 sadly things are even worse than that. Their approach isn’t only damaging their corporation it’s damaging the market. I’ll be sticking to raw, my collecting predates cgc so I learned to grade and detect restoration after a few years, I think current collectors will have to sharpen up as we can no longer take these things at face value.
When I sell my slabs they will be appropriately listed as being from my collection as sent by me to be graded from raw. There will be very few that I sell that will have been sent by someone else
Matt is a true business man. He played you guys with that award. Once the award was given the interview changed and everyone became a CGC fan boy and wanted to become best friends. LOL... So many tough questions that could have been asked did not get asked.
If it was connected to a CGC employee, do u really think he would admit that? NOPE! If it was more than 1 person and 350 books, do u think he would admit that? NOPE! No one will get a dime back from CGC. Just watch.
I applaud all THREE of you for the research, the care, and the transparency with this issue. I think every question I had got answered here. I can't imagine being in their shoes but it's great to hear things are being addressed and fixed, even if ongoing. CRIME DOESN'T PAY!
I wish that we could see this type of love and understanding from Wizards and Hasbro. Thank the three of you as well as all of the others putting in work and having a devoted passion for this industry :)
Yes!! That's exactly where my mind went to as well ... WOTC have been such dicks in the past few years I left Magic the Gathering after playing since 1994 .. why couldn't Hasbro/WOTC just have a conversation like this ... this is like a causual conversation, yet has the questions journalisticly we wanted answered too.
“There’s an ongoing investigation we can’t talk about it” but trust me bro, it’s contained to these books. Books that we didn’t know about until it was pointed out to us by RUclipsrs. Lol
Bro this guy is 💯 doing damage control. There is ZERO CHANCE that there is only 1 person and 350 books compromised. Criminals talk and they’re smart. Either person 1 let an accomplice in on how to do it OR someone else figured it out. If he truly believes that then I need to sell him my ocean front Nebraska mansion. “Here is a plaque, now give us some positive coverage”
Matt Nelson, 5:46 -- 'To date there hasn't been evidence of [other] books that have been tampered with.' *Yes, that's because your cases are not tamper-evident.*
Basically a lot of words without really saying anything new. Can't believe you didn't press Matt on the possibility that other scammers did this too or that people were doing this at home so cleanly they didn't even need to reholder at CGC. Also should have asked why they suddenly started including free imaging with all grading in the middle of last year. What did they know? A 9.9 prescreen would be nothing short of a distraction.
This is an example of the humanity of the hobby. I am a fan of CGC. When the news broke I thought it sucked, but with the information that we had I wasn’t too worried. I didn’t jump to doom and gloom scenarios. CGC has a long reputation of being a good company. They make their mistakes, but when you’re grading 5-10 million comics there is bound to be mistakes here and there. Great conversation and kudos to Matt. Great message.
@@jimmyhayes6017 I respect the comment and thoughts. I would push back a little by saying two things. One, the sales and increase in value infers that they are the most respected third party grader in the industry. People love their product. Two, they wouldn’t be news if they weren’t big and respected to begin with. If PGX had this happen to them the comments would just be to be expected. I do respect all thoughts and opinions on this, because it is sad and extremely disappointing. So I say this comment with all due respect.
Lol what so they basically don’t know what’s been tampered with …if not everything on the list has definitely been tampered with , then they don’t actually know definitively what’s been tampered with 😂
Hi Davengers and 9.9. New viewer (and subscriber) here. Thanks for keeping this video conversational. I appreciate Matt speaking live with you all. And, I appreciate the work you all have done in this investigation. I'm hopeful that the scam is limited to the 350 books AND that lessons learned will help keep the hobby safer.
Kudos to Matt on such a candid interview. I’ve met him in person, and he’s an extremely honest, straightforward person. Dave and Manu, you both asked such great questions. I think the questions were shared by most collectors. Thanks for uncovering this scam. You’ve done an invaluable service to the hobby. CGC’s reputation may be damaged in the short term, but I think it will repair trust through its effective response to this scam.
Great interview! Thanks for all you do! Questions: 1. What if the buyer doesn't want to sell his book? 2. Is the buyer allowed to get the book back after all this is done? 3. What happens to all the books CGC keeps after they reimburse the buyer and this is over?
They didnt say, matt only said that they will keep the affected books and pay fairmarket value without cracking them for posterity😅. I guess if you dont want to return your book you dont have to but otherwise will never know if your book is missing anything + the cgc number will hunt that book for posterity affecting the value😂. He did say that every book is a different conversation so who knows what you can get, maybe get it back
I hope reholdering doesn't go away. I like to have my CGC books in uniform cases, so I want to be able to reholder books in old cases into new style ones.
Good to see Matt speak on this, the most important thing the community needs to know next is what will CGC do to prevent tampering with the cases moving forward? What protection measures will be implemented during Re-holdering process. Will books need to be Re-graded during a re-holder submission
I dealt with Matt when he had his company in Dallas, what a great guy. At the time I had a "comic-keys" book in my collection and he went through a bunch of early ASM books and evaluated them for restoration. I was so impressed with him I let him pick out books he thought had a chance of big grade jumps by pressing them and submitting them to CGC. Class act.
I enjoyed the candid conversation and of course all the work. I do wish this question had been asked. “In light of the videos showing how easily a holder can be opened and re-sealed, what gives such high confidence that this was just a reholder scheme? Why stops a bad actor from just swapping a book and selling it without getting it reholdered?”
I don't disagree with that but I don't think cgc could prove that was done if the book was never submitted for a reholder, if zaneglor simply swapped a book and sold it, it's gonna be hard to trace. Either way, it's something I will keep in my notes if we have him back on again. Thanks!
Thanks for replying!! I am not saying that they need to prove or not prove that it’s happening but still need to address it. If a holder can be opened with just a heat gun and a book can be swapped in this easily (without ever even going back to CGC) it’s a major problem. Bigger even than the re-holder scheme!!
You're right, I guess you just have to have a little hope for humans that not everyone is going to try shit like that. But then again, it's human beings we're talking about. Ugh.😂
@@WestCoastDAVEngers I have great faith that the overwhelming majority of the books are fine, but the holder is clearly way too accessible to those who want to scam. And so my point is that it’s just too naive to say, “we got em”! There is lots more work to do. Thanks for the fight you guys. The spotlight you put on this is why we have what we have right now. For that it’s worth a million praises!!
Not trying to sound like a hater but....., You are not supposed to accept presents from the people you are investigating😅.... it leads to a softline of questioning... when you see that the Feds/FBI are on the trail of somebody, they do a press conference stating the plot, detailing how it was done and all the people involve in the scheme. This sounded more like a PR move and the stuff about the 9.9😂😂😂 what a way to distract the audience and interviewers. Im not a newsreporter but the least he could have done is explain in detail how they made that list of possible books... more so, if he doesnt plan on cracking them😅😅 to know if they are affected. Why not inform the authorities or say that the FBI is handling the investigation?? Instead of saying that they hired a private investigator... confidence is something that once you lose it, its not comming back ever. imo
I can let go of my anger at CGC, but I am not going to give them more of my money or my books. Not after the two key Bronze age books they destroyed. The community will forget this latest event happened, and we will be here again with something new. We will shout out in indignation and still do nothing. That's the real tragedy in all of this.
So many shops and collectors are heavily invested in graded books, they will fight to the very end to keep prices up. And ignore any problems as just one offs.
Happy to see Matt address this with you directly and addressing a lot of the the concerns the community has had. They're still some grey areas but understandable due to thiis still being in the early stages and a pending lawsuit on the horizon. I'm sure we'll hear more complete answers in the future once that's final. Happy that you were the guys to break the story.
You are a liar, Matt. You knew that an EMPLOYEE was caught stealing books and changing labels September/October last year. It is in the complaint filed with USDC Tampa.
Any update on the magazine holders? I know they’ve been updated recently but a lot of those books are not centered in the slab and a lot of people purchased the older slabs of those magazine books (cough TMNT cough). What can be done to improve that?
Glad to see the guy had the balls to do a long form interview. He didn’t have to do shit. This may help keep his business moving positively. You guys did a great job discovering all this from the beginning.
Excellent interview, Gents! Awesome way to connect the dots for the comic community - from discovering this activity to having Matt provide updated info. The interview was well conducted and flowed well. Looking forward to seeing more updates from you Guys! 🔥
What an important interview and moment for the hobby. For Manu (The9.9Newsstand) & Dave to be acknowledged for the work they have done to protect the hobby… that’s special. I hope it inspires others and runs off the bad actors as well.
it was like when Jim gave Dwight a junior police award... give me a break, this is **literally** a $100,000,000,000 company. They should be giving these guys an actual sponsorship at least.
@@horvathsogranfume658100% agree. The efforts at rehabilitating the brand was hilarious and pathetic at the same time. They haven’t got a clue which books on that list have been tampered with, they don’t know how many scammers there are but “trust me bro, this is limited to one” one which they only knew about when it was pointed out to them. I’m watching very carefully to see which are shill channels and which are honest.
Alarm bells sould of being going off years ago With the amount of the same comic book Eventually these 350 books are going to be the books everyone chases and they are going to be over market value
Matt's 9.9 prescreen answer didn't make sense to me. He made it sound like a 9.9 prescreen service would involve their graders taking a closer look at a book to see if it deserves a 9.9.... Shouldn't EVERY book get that same scrutiny regardless of if it is sent in for prescreen?
Incredible job, gentlemen. My biggest takeaway was Matt saying some 9.8s might actually be 9.9s and would just require a little extra attention. Like, WTF? WHAT. A. JOKE.
I’m just a little into this interview, but I just wanted you to take a pause and say thanks for staying on top of this and all of the efforts you guys are putting forth. Thanks also for having Matt on and his willingness to come on to talk about this! 👍🏾🙂
Kudos and flowers to Dave and Manu as well as Matt Nelson for doing this interview. So proud of these two being ethical leaders in this hobby we all enjoy and love. Bringing to light the scam, educating other hobbyists to bring awareness while also bringing attention to a flawed CGC reholder service. Great interview my friends thank you for looking out for your peeps and congrats on being Co Hobby Heroes 🎉🎉. Can’t wait for CGC updates and you’re next interview with Matt Nelson.
CGC needs better quality control.Recently I received a 9.6 white page newsstand ASM and there was zero liquid weld on outer case.no marks and all four corners are pined.i checked the pics on CGC and it’s the proper book plus CGC wrinkled the book when putting book in the inner well which could be pressed out.why send theses books out. Makes CGC look sloppy at best.this book went thru CGC in Dec.No excuse for this.
Well done, I just wish someone would ask why CGC has NOT reached outside of their walls to provide 4th party verification and some transparency on the bigger issues. The fact that they allowed this and got it so wrong for so long calls for outside expert eyes before we agree to a peaceful reset.
But there are still ghost cert numbers on the census, right? If a comic is cracked and pressed outside of CGC, the means of removing that cert number becomes quite limited. Almost had me there for a moment 🤏Great interview all around! Looking forward to hearing more about the investigation side (how specifically the list was created, which 3rd parties are working to remove these books from their platform, and fate of the alleged scammer) should such information ever become public 🙏 Congrats on the official CGC acknowledgments, gentlemen!
This was just a great interview all around. Thx guys! I'll admit I have a bit of CGC submission paralysis if there's a possibility they're going to rejig their slabs and tracking system.
Collectors pay thousands of dollars or more for the grading opinions of CGC's "expert" staff. Shouldn't those graders be above reproach and technically better at grading than any noob off the street? Evidently not.
I would like to be able to see the label, minus the grade, when I am submitting books so that any corrections can be made before it’s sealed and shipped
"I respect the fact that you can't talk about an ongoing investigation" Ya, this is a problem. He's not sharing important information about CGC's core product while continuing to sell it. If they don't want to tell us exactly how they're fixing their process or exactly what went wrong, then they should stop accepting submissions. This interview is designed to reduce liability, he has refused to share any new information.
I'm sorry but I don't see how this is such a 'great' interview like many are claiming. Matt Nelson came on with a bunch of non-answers and a lot of 'I can't discuss that' or 'I can't talk about that.' How does that inspire confidence that the scandal is in any way contained? It's not and this video just kind of turned into a glazing self-promotion piece for CGC. Can anyone please explain to me why they feel better about the scandal because of this? Because it feels to me, like the corporate 'we conducted our own investigation and everything is and was fine' type of non-statement. How and why has it all been fixed, and why does Matt Nelson deserve credit for getting on here and saying a bunch of coachspeak?
Good video. I’ll have to watch the rest later. I really appreciate the questions and the directness. You can tell that you are both fans and basically are asking what I would ask. Good of him to do this video and let’s info come out rather than speculation
Matt played you guys with that award… Your tones totally changed and you wanted to be best friends afterwards. LOL… You were tuff on prior videos but the tuff questions were not asked.
i like how he said cgc expects the collectors themselves to police these slabs 😂 how can anyone take cgc seriously right now? I appreciate Mike doing this, but this scam completely undermines CGCs value proposition.
Great job, guys. An ama,ing interview and a breath of fresh air to hear from the CEO of CGC. I know there's plenty more to do still, but the questions you asked and the transparency from Matt was great. Again, very well done!
With Matt being forthcoming on the process of reholdering just being reholdering without the review of an actual grader present shows how this scam was actually able to be done. Having it scanned by a grader prior to reholder is at least a step in the right direction. I appreciate the honesty in that comment from him and the beginning stages that have been started to stop it.
Yes! Matt says they have no reason to believe it was an inside job- but how many people within CGC could have easily identified the reholdering department as a way to switch books. No expert oversight or quality control going on there. I believe Matt when he says the graders have expertise, pride and passion for their work- but it seems like there was a different vibe and agenda within the reholdering department.

CGC are snakeoil salesmen, I hope there's a class action against them as the extent of their criminal negligence unfurls over the coming months.
Hear, hear!
I must say I agree!!
If it hurts their bottom line or calls into question their reputation, why would they fess up unless pinned against the wall like this?
@@kenkenny6196 and I didn’t pay you. Lol
i totally agree, CGC just sells plastic at this point.
@@horvathsogranfume658 plastic and promises… unkept ones. Lol
It’s sad. I have graded and raw so I’m not ideologically against them but boy… I won’t be buying any of my big book graded from this point on.
Manu was like, "OK, That's enough smalltalk. No one came to hear about the weather in Florida."
😂
Be careful what you wish for!
for all the reasons you said, the cynic in me found the discussion around 9.9s as tasteless
@@mattcarper9853 yup, well said

Beleive me, it's not contained.
Why should anyone believe you?
Ridiculous!
They wouldn't even have noticed/admitted to those 350 books either, if not for the collectors who investigated and exposed their negligence.
@@DocReasonableCGC is a money machine and anything that gets in the way of that is brushed under the carpet as long as possible.
Still much to be done, but it's a start! Thank you my friend for all your hard work!
Thanks for the work you guys have done to get us to this point, but 1 thing I wish you guys asked was why there isn't a seperate census for things like Mark jewelers and Canadian price variants like there is for pence variants, seeing an uptick on the census of the books in question would have possibly caught this earlier.
Unfortunately it's one of these too little/ too late things, they should have completely been doing that from the beginning, I agree!
I've been wanting that too...great idea
Damn that’s a great point. I wonder if that can even be quantified now, since I’m not sure how accurate their historic records are. Going forward though… would be nice to see!
Maybe with some disclaimer on the census saying the date that the actually count and separation started so people don’t think it’s all of them.
When they started labeling slabs as a "newsstand edition" I thought they were getting their own census, when I found out that wasn't the case I was scratching my head lol whats the point you know? Thanks again for the interview and discovering this scam 👏👏👏
Every 9.9 CGC that crossed my hands did not look like a 9.9 ...NOT ONE. Thanks for the interview I enjoyed it!
Yep… there’s been a lot of that.
Congrats on getting this interview and kudos to Matt for agreeing to a long-form interview.
Completely agree with this comment!
What questions would you have asked? I'm genuinely curious.
This, for example: How do you know if a case has been tampered with when your cases are not tamper-evident? @@Sammmmmmmm617
If it was connected to a CGC employee, do u really think he would admit that? NOPE! If it was more than 1 person and 350 books, do u think he would admit that? NOPE! No one will get a dime back from CGC. Just watch.
Non answers and more costs means higher prices and lower profit margins. Great idea but we'll drag our feet on these issues. Lol
I applaud all THREE of you for the research, the care, and the transparency with this issue.
I think every question I had got answered here. I can't imagine being in their shoes but it's great to hear things are being addressed and fixed, even if ongoing.
CRIME DOESN'T PAY!
They should do the photographs and include it as a PDF with the book. That way people can “look through it” before buying if they want.
Chris "bag of" Cocks at Wizards/Hasbro probably makes more money then the entire staff at CGC combined, and he's a corporate stiff
They should be compensated what they paid for it.
“There’s an ongoing investigation we can’t talk about it” but trust me bro, it’s contained to these books. Books that we didn’t know about until it was pointed out to us by RUclipsrs. Lol
That part.
Fantastic stuff guys. Thanks for bringing this to the community. And thanks Matt for participating. The transparency is huge for rebuilding trust.
CGC doesn’t have a good rep they have had scandal after scandal for years they just finally have one big enough to get everyone’s eyes

Questions:
Dave and Manu you guys did such a great and thorough job with this the whole way through. 👏
Means a lot my friend, thank you so much!!!! ♥️
This could of been easily avoided by simply CHECKING THE BOOK BEFORE IT GETS RE-HOLDER AND RELABELED 🥴😂
Class act.
Still waiting on what the difference is bt a 9.8 , 9.9, and 10.0s
I enjoyed the candid conversation and of course all the work. I do wish this question had been asked. “In light of the videos showing how easily a holder can be opened and re-sealed, what gives such high confidence that this was just a reholder scheme? Why stops a bad actor from just swapping a book and selling it without getting it reholdered?”
This was my main question too that I didn’t hear asked/answered. Amazing interview, all the same!
Instead of saying that they hired a private investigator... confidence is something that once you lose it, its not comming back ever. imo
I guess CGC doesn't want to involve the FBI who might uncover the rampant extent of their racket.

Love seeing CGC communicating with the community in this way. Also, WOOT Hobby Heros is right, well deserved!!
But there are still ghost cert numbers on the census, right? If a comic is cracked and pressed outside of CGC, the means of removing that cert number becomes quite limited. Almost had me there for a moment 🤏Great interview all around!
Looking forward to hearing more about the investigation side (how specifically the list was created, which 3rd parties are working to remove these books from their platform, and fate of the alleged scammer) should such information ever become public 🙏
Congrats on the official CGC acknowledgments, gentlemen!
Great video guys!! I honestly think they are trying to do their best to resolve this bad situation.
This was just a great interview all around. Thx guys! I'll admit I have a bit of CGC submission paralysis if there's a possibility they're going to rejig their slabs and tracking system.
Why hesitate to implement images and a new case? Also definitely should implement free checks on the cases for anyone with doubts on their slabs.
Collectors pay thousands of dollars or more for the grading opinions of CGC's "expert" staff. Shouldn't those graders be above reproach and technically better at grading than any noob off the street? Evidently not.
So proud Dave and Manu Hero of Comics!! Good Friends Good People.

Good of him to do this video and let’s info come out rather than speculation

the senior grader change wont detect the qualified 181s tho, unless they mean they are cracking out the inner well
i like how he said cgc expects the collectors themselves to police these slabs 😂 how can anyone take cgc seriously right now? I appreciate Mike doing this, but this scam completely undermines CGCs value proposition.
Great job, guys. An ama,ing interview and a breath of fresh air to hear from the CEO of CGC. I know there's plenty more to do still, but the questions you asked and the transparency from Matt was great. Again, very well done!
Awesome job Dave & Manu!!! Love the question about FMV if the book was purchased during Covid And what the FMV is now.
