I’ve watched this short countless times with my niece. We both study the animation and all the intricate details that went into it. She’s going to love this video. I know I did! Thank you so much for making this!
I’m 30 now and I love Disney. My love for it started at 5 when I started watching the classics, and my brother gave me a Disney storybook for Christmas. I loved this tour! I’m also a swiftie. I like that Taylor’s music, similar to Disney goes through a wide variety of genres and eras. I love the diversity Disney has.
I screamed HORRIBLY at the way Dinosaur was not only mentioned in passing but fully drawn attention to; that movie is so nostalgic for me, it's perhaps my biggest comfort movie ever, and seeing that it's remembered at all makes me so unreasonably happy because it's rarely ever mentioned these days. That's so amazing that not only is Aladar's original animator still at Disney but that he was so eager to work on the characters again... it just warms my heart to know that they haven't been completely forgotten :'D Amazing video all around, thank you for sharing it! I loved Once Upon a Studio, so it's so absolutely fascinating to see all the behind-the-scenes on it. One of my (many!) favourite things about that short is the way they were able to use archival recordings of Robin Williams that hadn't made it into the movie to give Genie new dialogue, so it made me really happy that you drew attention to that too!
Great video. I visited the studio in 2011, before the massive renovation that went through - It was one of the most beautiful days of my life. The studio building is called the "Roy E. Disney Animation Building" and its construction was completed in 1994. The production of the film 'Pocahontas' in 1995 was already done there, the animators returned from Glendale directly there. In recent years, the studio has undergone a facelift and a particularly refreshing change.
Wow, you’re so lucky to be here at Disney Animation Studios, i’m very jealous. I wish I could be there with you Jace! Thanks for giving me a tour. I’m absolutely want to get there to take a picture with 543 characters. I watched this shorts countless time to let the world know who we are.
Once Upon a Studio crushed me. I can’t watch it without tearing it. It was perfection. Just goes to show you don’t need a full feature to make an impact. Thank you! I hope these directors get to make a full movie someday. They certainly know how to tug at heartstrings.
EVENTUALLY, as a multifaceted filmmaker myself, I SHALL PRESENT MY PASSION MUSICAL HAND DRAWN PROJECT TO THE STUDIO as an authentic revival reminiscent to the quality of the Renaissance, featuring Alan Menken as the musical BACKBONE of the project
Thank you for conducting all these interviews! It's awesome to see more of the studio and hear so much about the short and the studio's process for everything. Amazing video!
Fantastic video! I have watched Once Upon a Studio more than a dozen times! I’m from the UK and I visited the studio in March 2018 on my university trip and I even saw Eric Goldberg walking through the halls and then talking to one of his colleagues.
I grew up watching Disney animated cartoons, and they were a magical impact in my childhood, and it inspired me to learn how to draw and animate If it weren't for Walt Disney I wouldn't be drawing anything.
This is amazing! The history and talent in this place 🙌 still pinching ourselves that we were fortunate to experience the studio in person, unforgettable memory!
I toured the Studio back in 2012 with a D23 group and Darren Butters was our animator guide then. He did a great job and glad that he's still with the company.
Wow amazing edit and questions as always, Jace! Lovely that you got to meet Mark Henn. I once got to visit the old animation campus, but it was a treat to see a thorough look at the Roy building. Didn't meet Eric, but did see him exiting the building due to a fire drill haha
That was awesome and very impressive that you went to the Disney Animation Studio, so cool and brilliant. I remember watching Once Upon A Studio on Disney Plus last year on my birthday and I enjoyed it and it was a pretty cool birthday gift to me and it’s great seeing my favorite Disney characters returned in the short especially Aladar and the Lemurs from Dinosaur 2000 and The characters from Meet the Robinsons, great to see them again after all these years. Great experience and Congratulations at getting 100K Subscribers and keep up the great work.
Hi! My name is Omar, I am just a kid now, but when I grow up, I always wanted to work at Disney and Pixar. I make cartoons for my family to prepare for my future. I hope I get there someday. Like what Walt Disney says, "If you can dream it, You can do it"
As a huge Disney fan and cartoon fan, this just made me happy to see. I myself am studying to be an animator while also taking online classes on the subject, and I always look towards Disney for some good drawing and animating tips. Also, I love Once Upon a Studio!! It was a perfect love letter to Disney for their 100th anniversary, and you guys did an awesome job on all of it!😊❤

I could literally spend DAYS in this building simply admiring all the artwork on the walls. All these amazing cast members are so extremely talented!!!
Beautiful tour around Walt Disney animation studios after watching the great live action animated short “Once Upon A Studio”. I hope that Disney will go back to hand drawn 2D animation someday in the future. Also it’s great to see you on this video Mark Henn and once again hope you’re enjoying your retirement.
I got the privilege of being invited on a tour at the studio in 2022 and especially as someone who had always dreamed of stepping inside those gates, it was just so so magical and inspiring being surrounded by all of that insane talent and history 🥰 I hope I can revisit someday!
I recently got to do a small tour here and I felt soooo honored to be there. I love drawing and the animation studio was amazing. Thanks for making this video and see more of this space! xx
Passionate creatives are what add that magical spark to Disney Animation ( Disney or competing houses need more of them ). Also bring back 2d animation films, sure they are more labor intensive but that's what audiences want to see, and bring back animators such as Mr Baxter as creative directors alongside Mr Goldberg.
i love how this feels like an actual workplace. a lot of bts stuff, especially from big studios like disney, feel highly rehearsed or even scripted. but this feels like im doing like an actual in person tour.
I love this so much!!!!!!!! It’s awesome you got to do a tour of the Disney Animation Studio. Once Upon a Studio is one of my favorite Disney shorts and I love that it features many characters from all 62 movies and many shorts released at the time and it’s an amazing and beautiful way to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary😍🥰💖💜💙🌈🦄📱
I know we fans do criticise Disney and they are a huge company making a ton of money but these animations mean so much to me - I hope the people who work on them know that. I hope they know how much their work means to me.
omg!!! I lost my hype to work there at disney a long time ago.... but now! I am willing to improve my skills enough to get there!!!! I cant wait to work in a place like that! thanks for making this video c:
The Walt Disney Studios is such a happy-go-lucky creative environment. It is a place without any conflict, tensions or stress between workers. It looks like all the staff get on well with each other and look forward to going to work everyday.
I love this video. And also our family loves all of the Disney animations. I wish to visit this studio someday. Thank you for updating this video from a Japanese Disney fan.
It's interesting that all the progress in computer animation hasn't quickened the process of making the movies. That surprised me. The hand-drawn animators really accomplished quite a lot with very little. Respect. The CGI ones are beautiful as well.
This actually made me very emotional. I love most of the CG films but I do wish they would find more opportunities to go back to traditional animation!
On September 4, 2024, I went to the Roy E. Disney Animation Studios to audition to be a voice actor. A security guard told me that I needed an invitation, make a reservation online, and become a member of D23.
Considering the amount of money and creativity floating around that place, I'm always surprised that the building looks like a generic law firm with a couple of Disney pictures on the walls 😂 I grew up thinking it'd all look like the interiors of a Magic Kingdom queue
