Two woodys!!!
Hello
ur vids sponsored by casestify and casetifys fucked now
Jim is so underrated and has contributed GREATLY to our childhood. Thanks for this rare interview!
True however Jim Hanks deserves to be rewarded for all his years of doing the rest of the Woody work on behalf of his brother Tom Hanks
WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!??!!!!
KYLE ALLEN
He’s a big part of my nephew’s childhood so I appreciate you thinking that dude 😊
Who is "our"? Not mine.
How did I never know this?! Went 40 years of my life not even knowing Tom has a brother, let alone he does Woody.
When you are so good at making fun of your sibling that you make it a career.
As an older brother myself, this speaks to me. I make fun of my brother all the time, I wish I could get paid for it.@@dawnkryxel
Same 😂😂😂😂😂
Same here 👍
Yeah, as a matter of fact Tom Hanks himself confirmed that his younger brother Jim is Woody's voice when the character isn't in the Toy Story movies, because Tom is busy working on other movies and can't do Woody all the time.
Jim is the voice of Woody in Kingdom Hearts 3 as well. Basically anything Tom won’t do, Jim will. He has perfected his impression over the years. And now, it’s kinda hard to tell the difference if you don’t have a side by side comparison.
Side by side? This isn’t a picture kid
@@HistoryandReviewsdude really
@@HistoryandReviewsStupid kid doesn't know what a figure of speech is. Pay attention next time
@@HistoryandReviewsStand down boomer lmao. How about not take everything seriously and just let it go if *you* saw a mistake?
Is not that he wont do it its hes to busy. He said it on graham norton
Seeing Jim talk casually is surreal, because he looks and sounds just about as much Like Tom Hanks as a person possibly can. But at the same time, he has a totally different personality and way of carrying himself.
Jim hanks does such a great job at voicing woody. As someone who played so many Disney Pixar video games featuring woody like Disney infinity and more recently, speedstorm. It’s always a delight to hear him.
Hearing about how he views woody as everyone’s favorite teacher is so inspiring.
"I've been known to win a race or two in my time!"
and he has voiced woody in the kingdom hearts three videogame
Who TF is Jim?
@@cuddlebug8106 Tom Hanks' brother.
I hope Jim Hanks have a reunite with his brother in Toy Story 5, As additional or cameo voice.
Imagine there's another Woody product that's voiced by Jim, one of the pieces of merch from Toy Story 2, while Woody himself is voiced by Tom
@@johnmorrison3698ooh and an offshoot Buzz voiced by Chris Evans.
@@SharpDesignperhaps a rehash of the Utility Belt Buzz situation from TS2?
Who knows maybe it could be one of those woody toys that were in different outfits
Or maybe a plot point…. Like woodys brother. Made in the Same factory as him at the same time
This was FANTASTIC Jace! The interview was so interesting and was all put together so well!
Hi!
hi
yo is tpm vids
Here before this blows up
I hope they go back to how the first 3 was. There’s something about the 4th that just feels too different and not like Toy Story.
The voices between Jim and Tom sound so similar but also different at the same time
Seriously, I would’ve never known! They sound damn near the same. Kinda heartwarming, that two brothers both get to voice the same iconic character 🥰
I wouldn’t say they sound the same. You can always tell which one is which
@@joshhunt4146 Clearly, for millions, they can’t (me included) When Jim turns on his Woody-voice, him and Tom sounds very similar (otherwise they wouldn’t have used him to begin with)
@@ChristianKrogh-Denmark he sounds like Tom with a blocked nose
@@joshhunt4146 Agree to disagree 👍
It's such a trip because we're so familiar with what Tom Hanks looks and sounds like -- and you can see that DNA in JIM, down to mannerisms, but it really amps up when he goes into the voice.
Tom Hanks is the original and most iconic, but technically Jim has been the character much more than Tom! I love both of their Woody voices!
Phantom woody
@@isaiahcapacio3703Liquid Woody
Tom Only does the big box office movies $$$$$. Jim does all the side stuff like promotions and video games etc.
Tom plays Woody the Toy, and Jim is Woody the OG Cowboy
Both are woody together
I feel Jim doesn't get enough credit, he's been Woody more times on top of being a prolific voice actor in his own merit!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
but he didn't create the character and is merely mimicking it, it's like a great elvis impersonator
He isn't Woody he is just there to voice Woody that Tom doesn't want to be in.
I know
My late mother was good friends with Jim in high school. She followed his career over the years so I always knew how much Jim was involved behind the scenes. Thanks for this interview and getting him some nice recognition!
Oh, wow! My mother was friends with Jim in high school as well! Who was your mother?
@@stanknugget Ha no kidding. Not sure I wanna blast her full name out in the RUclips comments but her initials were JS, MHS class of ‘79. I actually met Jim and his son at the 20 year reunion as a kid.

Wow, this is incredible, Jace! Amazing work.
Yo, its you. I loved your Toy Story 3 remake
While Tom was voicing the Toy Story movie side of my childhood, this man was voicing my favorite cowboy in everything else that defined my childhood. Jim does an incredible job at voicing Woody and in my opinion, his legacy as him for me is most felt when he voiced Woody in my favorite childhood PS1 kart racing game, Toy Story Racer, which I still play to this day. Brings a smile to my face when I'm racing as him, win or lose. Thanks for the incredible interview, Jace!
This is amazing, Jace! I've never seen an interview with Jim Hanks before- what a great idea! And what an honor it must have been. I had that guitar-playing Woody doll too, it's sweet to know it represents a turning point in his confidence as the character!
And as always, the editing quality is unmatched! Really feels like an official Pixar bonus feature. Congratulations on another outstanding achievement!
It was an honor! and you're spot on -- official Pixar bonus feature was exactly what I was going for. Thanks Brian!
I have this Same Doll!
Hi Brian!
@@JaceDiehl Nailed it
Jim understands woody like Tom does. Also what a beautiful connection for two brothers to share with one another.
The fact that this man sounds and LOOKS so much like Tom is scary! (I know they are siblings but they still have strong genes)
Hey Howdy Hey! I’ve noticed the Toy Story 3 Game soundtrack playing in the background.
Plus, it’s nice to hear an in-depth interview on how Jim Hanks became the voice of Woody in other Toy Story related medias.
I love the Toy Story 3 game.
10:46, when he says “The Kingdom Hearts thing” I was soooo happy! Love Jim’s work, and how he’s held up the mantle for Tom when he does woody in the films. Glad he gave his brother a really sick job just being a VA for Woody in anything they need him for.
Oddly enough, considering he was the voice of the Toy Story SNES game and all the Woody Dolls, I probably heard the Jim Hanks voice more than his brother's when I was a kid. This guy is awesome!
How did a SNES game have voices??
@@eprimeify2090 Technically, even the NES could run voices, it's just that very early on, voice synthesization was pretty space-consuming and a little difficult to program. The SNES definitely could and did have synthesized voices, and it's a pretty interesting process. Technically, even the original Gameboy had voice sampling, although they were even crustier and less intelligible than both of the home consoles. You can pretty easily find very fascinating videos on the subject.
This is the voice of the Woody who completely roasted Xehanort. There is no greater.
Its so awesome that Tom hanks allowed his brother to do this. This basically gave his brother a full time career and job security
I love how Jim could've just been a knockoff woody but he actually put his heart and soul Into and is on the same level as Tom (if not higher he's technically been woody more now lol)
Gosh I love it when family look and sound like each other. Especially siblings. It goes beyond the looks, the mannerisms. As someone who lives far away from relatives, and gets shocked every time I make my annual visit, I think it’s so special to see the spiritual and biological/physical bonds that link family.
I personally love seeing family resemblances, I think it’s so cute and endearing seeing all the similarities. My sister and I have a lot of differences but also I think we look similar enough that people can tell we’re related. Also when we were teens sometimes people would mix us up on the phone so apparently we sound similar.
Bro I always knew it !! Omg ! I can’t tell the difference
You should check out "I Know That Voice". He's on it. All about voice actors.
An incredibly underrated talent. I went so long in my life having no clue that it was Jim Hanks. If I'm being honest through all the other Toy Story content I might have listened to Jim (Woody) more than I have listened to Tom (Woody).
Disney: Okay Tom we need you for some voice over work.
Tom: My price is $20,000
Disney: You don't happen to have a brother that sounds like you who can do it cheaper, do you?
Tom: Why yes I do.
While it’s incredible that Jim’s able to match Tom’s energy and voice to such a close degree, I think it’s also worth shouting out that he’s not the type to be petty about doing the “smaller” projects or being in his brother’s shadow. Not a lot of people would have that much class and still strive to stay true to the character while also understanding/appreciating their own unique contribution. Jim really is a class act and seems like a great brother.
Hey, 30 years of consistent checks. I wouldn’t complain!
This is an awesome interview! To me Jim Hanks has always been woody as well as Tom hanks. Jim voice literally like hearing back your childhood.
I have an attachment to Jim Hawks' Woody. (In addition to Tom Hanks) Haveing him around has been like having a long time friend. One who will greet me at the TV room after Im finished playing games and tell me how to "rustle up some more fun" to stepping infront of me (Sora) in Kingdom Hearts and telling Xehanort to get lost. Jim Hanks has been there every step.
I genuinely hate how good your videos are. Killing it absolutely every time -- another GREAT interview, Jace!!
>I genuinely hate
Dang bro lol
haha you're the best Dave!! Much appreciated!
@NintenDanforthTV, he accused me of being a creep, lol guy clearly had never heard of Savile or had the knowledge of him
@@Zipzopzoobitybop LOL, I know it's difficult to read tone on the internet, but surely you didn't take that seriously? Have nothing but enormous admiration for Jace's work.
@@kingemerald4622 Don't think I've ever called anyone a "creep," but I probably called out one of your "weird" comments about a cartoon rabbit or something.
Nice to see Jim Hanks get some love as Woody.
this popped up on my youtube homepage, and i'm happy it did. I didn't know Tom's brother acted. Its impressive how similar they sound! How fortuitous for Pixar. Great interview, and thanks for teaching me something new!
Why is it impressive? They are brothers. If you sounded like him that would be impressive.
Check out Cloud Atlas. They’re both in that movie.
I had no idea Tom’s brother voiced Woody. So funny at the end when Jim goes into Woody’s voice. Even his face transformed into a Tom Hanks mug. Great interview. Loved it! ❤❤
This video feels like a behind the scenes, Bonus feature they'd have inside a Official Disney Toy Story anniversary Trilogy disc that plays through all the movies and also has plenty of bonus features including a video like this like "Meet the fake Woody!"
Is this just me? XD
Like the editing and the feel for the environment feels like it's Disney producing this
That's a great way to describe it.
@@gnbman thx! ^^
I like to detail what I say in depths cause it's more fun that way
A lot of people have told me I should be an Author
His voice in the Disney Interactive computer games from the 90's were my childhood. It was from the Interactive Storybook I think, where you play a game of Hot/Cold trying to put the toys in their place. How he says "HAAAWT!" always killed me as a kid. lol
This was a real treat getting to hear Jim talking about his start and some of the early times he voiced Woody. I'm so fascinated by the idea that he sometimes has to try and sound like older Tom haha. That hadn't even crossed my mind. And the part about Woody in the first film being so over dramatic is one of my favorite things about that movie. There is so much energy in the way he yells. From a character development standpoint I get why he calmed down more over the years, but boy does it work so well in the first one.
Wow! Jim sounds just like his bro Tom when he gets to that higher range! Good for him, glad he found this and is still making a living with it.
A lot more than just timbre goes into this job for Jim. Jim also has to be a great actor to emote like Woody and convey emotion in just his voice.
I think it's great the two brothers can bond over such an iconic character like Woody
Tom has to find the emotion, but Jim has to find the voice and the emotion. That takes some doing!
Yeah without his famous brother he wouldn’t find either Boo Hoo it’s so tough living off of your brothers fame
@@MichaelRei99 You alright there Mike? 😂
"My Woody is my impression of Tom yelling at his kids." LOL😂
I knew it was Tom's brother but it's so cool to see him as himself!
Jim must have done more voices for Woody than Tom at this point!
Yeah I knew he voiced the toys and stuff but I had never seen what he looked like. Wow they look so similar. Could pass as twins if it wasn't for the hair lol.
When they showed the pictures of them younger at the end I honestly was like wait who is who @CreedBrattonTheOffice
he did a lot of the running in forrest gump when he is going cross country and you cant see his face clearly
@@bloodlinefilmsReally? That’s pretty cool and interesting. I had no idea.
Always nice seeing Jim get some love. Great interview Jace!
Fun Fact! On the show Scrubs they had a surgeon character named Hooch. For one episode they had him paired up with Dr. Turner, a la Turner and Hooch. They got Jim to play Dr. Turner and he has a speaking line. It’s really cool haha!
Great piece. I had no idea Tom's brother was doing all this! Very cool.
Its crazy how when Jim does the Woody voice he actually looks more like Tom. Super talented dude for sure!
Great interview. I'm always impressed at how well these are edited.
This Is Amazing🤩 So Much Insight of Jim doing the Voice, he truly is Woody as well ⭐
I mean this as no disrespect to Tom, but to me in many ways Jim IS Woody.
Isn't it true tom hanks moved to Greece because he's a pedo? If so then Jim should take over
Jim Hanks at Pat Fraley are just as much Woody and Buzz as Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are. Jim and Pat's fingerprints are all over some of my favorite childhood experiences. (Video games, theme parks, toys, live shows, etc.) Great to see that Jim really loves the role.
I'm Brazilian, I've always watched Toy Story dubbed in Portuguese, but the toys didn't come to Brazil speaking Portuguese until 2010. So Jim Hanks as Woody was more in my childhood than his brother 😂
Jim hanks is great as Woody! but I also liked when he used to voice Geoffrey the Giraffe in the old 2000s Toys R Us commercials!
This is fricking hilarious! I never knew Tom Hanks had a brother little alone could sound just like him.
Wow, this was probably the best RUclips recommended video ever. Stellar interview! And so well edited and produced! You asked great questions and Jim Hanks seemed to enjoy himself, as well.
Thank you!
There are several amazing things here.
First, the uncanny resemblance between their voices (of course being a product of their genes).
Second, Jim's hability to find the precise "Tom's voice" by analyzing his tones; it is not a simply imitation, but a complete study.
And finally, the lucky that both have printed such charisma to a beloved character.
Awesome.
Beautiful job again, Jace. So well-produced as always. I was dying at the Jim to Tom sound meter. You have a natural flow with your interview subjects
I'm glad you appreciated the sound meter - my fav edit. Jim made it easy. Thanks Joe!
Amazing interview! I’ve always wanted to know more about his experience voicing Woody.
I would like to see Woody meeting Woody. It's just like when Buzz met other Buzz toys in the 2nd movie except, its Woody meeting another Woody. Jim and Tom would be perfect to coexist within this story plot.
This just showed up in my feed and I loved every minute of it! It was a delight to hear from Jim on his work and legacy!
Me too.
What a wonderful interview! Jim Hank’s contributions are incredible and he seems like such a great person. Thank you so much for sharing this! 😀🙌✨
I hope this blows up. So well done
This interview is amazing. After Part 4, I think that 'Toy Story' can continue with animated shorts. Pixar is pushing it with 1 more film. At least, there's more for 'Inside Out' or 'Turning Red' where sequels about the lead human girls growing up & getting more stories for themselves.
This is genuinely awesome I didn’t know this ❤❤Thanks so much for this Jace
Here’s hoping Chet Hanks keeps it in the family and gets his shot as Woody one day 🤞
This is an awesome interview Jace, keep up the great work!
I’ve always heard of this legend- but I’ve never seen him! Thank you for this interview!!
I love Woody so much, I’m excited to see what else Jim does! Maybe a cameo in Toy Story 5 👍🏻
My mind is BLOWN! I would have never guessed, although now i can tell but only because it’s been pointed out. It’s cool how the siblings have such a distinct voice. Reminds me of how people get me, my mom and my sister all consider on the phone. They always think Im my sister or my mom.
Same with me and my sisters. We all sound so similar - even our mum can't tell us apart on the phone 😂
I genuinely thought every time I heard Woody it was Tom Hanks, which is a testament to how good of a job Jim does. Great interview and a lovely guy.
Watching him go into Tom mode is nuts.
What a well done interview/video! This was really cool to watch and learn more about Jim's journey!!!
This is awesome. I loved every second of this. Thank you for making this.
Their family is so down to earth and they all just seem to have such a good head on their shoulders.
Fantastic interview, Jace! Jim, I am so happy with all the success you've had in carrying on the Woody Legacy. Talent runs deep in the Hanks family. Yee-haa!!
This is the first time I've ever seen Jim interviewed after searching for years.
Jim Hanks was in an episode of Scrubs, as Dr. Turner, and JD and Turk messed with the schedules so that Dr. Turner and Dr. Hooch worked together, making them Turner and Hooch. I always loved that joke, and getting Jim on as Turner just added another layer to the gag for those paying close enough attention.
I always thought the live action Jeffrey in the Toys R Us commercials sounded like Tom Hanks. It was Jim!
Didn’t Colin Hanks , Toms son, play Geoffrey too?
Jace, another great interview! Can't wait for the next one.
I never realised how identical Jim and Tom were
Holy moly, this was incredible! I definitely got a little teary when Jim gave us a Woody goodbye at the end 🥰
I grew up listening to this man’s voice. And I STILL have my original Woody doll from 1995, and his voice box is still working.
This was so cool to get to finally hear from the man himself!
They look so much alike it’s crazy!
This video is so well-edited! Nice interview!
I find him being able to match Toms voice truly amazing. My brother and I are 10 months part but I really doubt we could pass our voices off as the other.
The entire Hanks family is just talented and simply the coolest! ❤
It’s crazy how all this time when I had a woody doll I thought it was Tom and it was Jim that’s awesome ❤❤
What an awesome interview! Great job! :)
This . . . is amazing. Thank you for sharing this story- HIS story that I never knew my whole life.
Thanks! Your content rocks, seriously!!!
the way Jim descibed woody so eloquently, like. ThATS why hes so good at it. Its beautiful.
It’s crazy how siblings can sound so similar. The same is true for me and my sister. I don’t think I sound like her until I hear a recording of my voice. It’s trippy.
My aunt sounds a lot like my mom over the phone more than in person it's weird.
10:46 Jim acknowledging KH3 is super based
His best performance as Woody.
This is awesome!! I never knew who voiced the video games and other promo's of Woody.. thanks for putting this together!!
I had NO idea. Between Jim and Tom, you couldn't even tell the difference at all.
I love your little clever edits dude !
Thanks Mark!
YES, 100% THIS!!!! 🤠
I remember when he voiced the main character in The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot. Such an underrated show.
Thank you for all the memories that I now get to relive with my children and we will cherish forever we love you Jim hanks
