The last 5 minutes of this literally brings you to tears it is that Epic. If you really want to understand how hard this was to pull off., watch their daytime run through then this will all start to make sense as to why Carolina Crown is a serious competitor in DCI
When I first watched crown in 2012 I was sold as a fan for life. Then by 2013 I was a fanatic. They will always be my #1 That being said, the patterns in their show design are getting so repetitive. Everything has to end in a major chord, which messes with development of energy and leaves all of their movements feeling compartmentalized. The design staff is obviously on to something with certain moments (4:38, the entire closer) that could make the show so amazing if the rest flows well (I.E. 2012/13/15). I'm not trying to say the design is bad, because crown's shows are certainly top 4 material year to year. Its just getting so basic compared to some of these championship shows from the post downside up era, that come championship week, they never have anything left in the tank, other than a closer change, to make judges sit with their jaws hanging even after repeat listens. I haven't felt that a mid-season crown show could win since 2015, whereas these other corps are really figuring out how to own your attention for 13 minutes straight and sell themselves as champions from the get-go. The tragic part about it all is that every single year I find myself saying if you paired Crown's roster with Blue Devils/Bluecoats staff, you would have a record setting year. Their brass capability is always stunning, no matter how far I get into the professional world of music. They just handicap themselves with design every year. RIP 2020, hopefully 2021 will be an exciting year for everyone involved.
No, not really. Devils and Coats are both more talented. Especially Devils. Blue Devils are the best at everything. They're soulless shills who are an embarassment to the sport. But it's about skill and Devils could run circles around every other corps in any given area.
@@lamestudiosinc418 I'd direct you towards the fact that Blue Devil's hornline got 4th in 2019 and they would have got 4th in music overall if it wasn't for their percussion. Blue Devils aren't "the best at everything", they just clean consistently. Also, Bluecoats really don't have a lot going for them other than show design and 2019 being one of their cleanest years. Bluecoats have never had a section that's consistently been the best, in fact, they've only ever won two caption awards in their 50 years. I don't see exactly what makes you think the Coats and Devils are "more talented" especially given that Crown has more medals than the Bluecoats and also has the same amount of brass awards as Bue Devils.
@@holmmz8062 How about that both corps have beaten Crown every year since 2015 except 2017? Cadets have more awards than any corps not called Blue Devils but let's be honest they are not still the second best corps.
