    Looks like a 24-105mm lens (or some other lens) at 6:08 and NOT the 18-80. Is that true? The 18-80 doesn't use the petal type hood as seen in that footage.

      You are right! That is not the lens on show here!

    I had a chance to interact and use the 18-80mm at Cine Gear Expo at Paramount studios this past weekend and yes, the focus does rack past infinity which is a big deal and in that a deal breaker for a great many of us that would very much like a focus ring with hard stops. It is already a bit difficult to focus due to lack of traditional barrel makings and makes using a CINETAPE MEASURE obsolete due to the lack of said markings. I hope you guys reconsider and implement some hard stops into the focus ring to better help us rack focus with this lens.
    In all, I love the lens, the images look amazing sharp and crisp with great detail. No breathing and a very good feel in the rotation of each ring. The only downside is that focus ring with no hard stops. The last thing I want to do is guess my focus limits when using a lens of this caliber.

      I have one of these lens' and use a follow focus with it and it goes back to the same spots every time. Plus I have hard stops on my follow focus. I really don't see a problem with it.

      ajmash please make a detailed video of your use with this lens. follow focus use and all. I really want to see this in action. Also anything narrative or documentary style video you've done with this lens and the follow focus.

    Just seeing this video now as I am most interested in this lens... does the START/STOP button on the zoom-grip (servo handgrip unit) work with the Canon EOS C70 and EOS R5C ? Thank you for an answer and take care! Max

      Hi Max!
      When used with a Canon digital camera, the START/STOP button of the ZSG-C10 will begin or end recording. You can find details on page E-33 of the User Manual for the CN-E18-80mm T4.4L IS lens here: canon.us/3GOMhZ3

    Being T4.4 makes me worry that the next compact servo zoom will be either the same or higher.... Shame canon couldn't get it to 2.8 or even 3.5 throughout... But still a great looking lens and IQ looks nice

    Looks like an awesome lens! Is it backwards compatible with the dos DSLR line?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  8 лет назад +1

      +twealve dread Great question! It will mount to an EOS Digital SLR, but the servo will not receive power through the EF mount. It will need to be powered externally. We hope this answers your question!

    I have a Canon C100 mark ii which I love. Will the AF face detect feature on the C100 work with this lens just like the STM lens.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  8 лет назад

      Hi Glenn! The Face Detect AF will only work with the select EF-S STM lenses, such as the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. We hope this answers your question! ~ML

    2:30 - it's parfocal, but not quite)
    upd: It turns out to be AF shift, so the lens seems to be parfocal indeed

      @EYE50MM 7 лет назад

      break2262 I thought I was the only one with that experience. I tried out the demo model at EVS in burbank and it wasn't parfocul. Weird. maybe it was the settings?

      It's parfocal and a great all around lens. I screwed up and left it in Face AF on that zoom out and lost her for a split second. Should have shot a 2nd take.

    The remote pin interface looks badly positioned. The connector cable for the optional handgrip is subject to damage everytime the camera is set down on the ground (without rail system) because the interface cable will extend below the base of the camera. This will put stress on the cable connector. Please relocate the 20 pin interface or (best idea) make a hot shoe interface between the servo handgrip and the lens body or make a low profile cable connector (maybe 90 degree).
    Come on Canon, do it right the 1st time.

    the sigma cine 50-100 looks much sharper.

      Do you have a side-by-side comparison on that? Have you really seen it compared? I think the main point about this lens is that it is integral to the Canon camera system and especially the Dual Pixel Auto Focus function. Not to say that the the Sigma lens isn't good, but it doesn't really fit into the Canon system in comparison to this lens, anyway..
