  • A tiny, fully immersive MCM gem in the desert. I had the pleasure of touring this cutie during Palm Springs Modernism Week.

Hi! I’m Karla, the resident token semi-goth artist/illustrator chick of Palm Springs, California. Cat Eyes and Cacti is my opportunity to explore my appreciation for Palm Springs, desert living, and all thing retro kitsch.

@4:24, I love that kitchen. It's sleek and modest. No fake Shaker, ugly stonework, giant island, jutting refrigeration or black hardware. I'm surprised that there is so much carpeting. Isn't Palm Springs hot and then really hot? Love your scarcastic style.

Oh my gosh those views!!! How absolutely stunning. I LOVE those green dining chairs in the living area :) Don't get me wrong, I do love some modern decor and style but the retro style just makes me smile and and wish I owned many of those items. *sigh* one can dream lol. Thank you so much for the tour of this gorgeous home xx

Large roof over hangs are beautiful and protect the doors, windows and siding from rain and moisture damage.
Water is the enemy of buildings. Architects and home builders need to bring back large roof over hangs

Thank you so much for this video. I see this house all the time when I’m visiting the nearby Goodwill. I’ve always wondered what it look like on the inside. Now, I have to do the tour next year. I agree with you on Freehouse one. I too want to buy it, we could go in on it together? 😊

A very gorgeous house. You have wonderful taste and offer something unique on each video. Thank you for sharing this with us.
There is truth in over restoring a home. This is done extensively today. You have given me a different perspective on architecture.

Hilarious that they put in jalousy windows. You can’t keep the heat out.

That is always the problem in a lot of places out in the desert. What was once a sweeping vista becomes developed, frequently in not a good way that is sympathetic to the environment easy on the developers check book - Cheap!

Money talks unfortunately! Some developers do a wonderful job of integrating into the landscape but others? Ooooof.....

finally someone who understands how to properly restore a mid-century modern house. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a mid century modern Marvel with all of its original elements Just totally gutted ripped out and replaced with this horrible sterile, modern design, and they still try to call it mid century modern.

Those people are vandals who should just go and buy a McMansion.

I've thoroughly enjoyed your running commentary on this tiny mid-century Marvel. I too hate it when native "historic" homes are gutted into cookie-cutter sterility leaving nary a trace of the previous heart and soul behind- there oughta be a law.....!

Thank you Elizabeth. While I certainly harbor "If it's mine I'll do whatever I want with it!!!" attitude I absolutely wince when not a single shred of the original flavor of a building or home is left. It's tragic I tell ya! Cheers from Palm Springs 🍸
