Enjoyed this thx. Well done! ‘…You can feel the optimism…’ when you said that, it occurred to me: that is one of the best accomplishments that a home designer can hope to achieve. How fun and wonderfully historically important this place in the desert has become. Cheers!

I'm an upholster from PS, I've had a great time being inside many iconic homes and learning about Mid Century. I enjoy working with designers, theyre really open and love giving me advice. I was a guest at a few Modernism shows and all thanks to my friends and customers who invited me. Great video thanks for posting

I miss growing up in PS in the 70s & 80s.😥
I miss all of the open space, and that 'ghost town' feel...
Dad had an awesome home at the top of Stevens Rd in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood, next door to Debbie Reynolds, they became very good friends over the years when he had the Ingleside.
    RIP Dad, RIP Debbie.😥😥

My wife and I lived in Palm Springs nearly 15 years. Could no longer take the absolutely oppresive heat during the summers when between May and November the temp was rarely below 100 degrees.....even at 4a.m. We had many days in July and August pushing 120 and a day or two here and there ABOVE 120. Nightmare driving here during the 'snowbird' months.

Thanks from Australia. I've been watching Palm Springs videos & wondering what is the weather like & how hot does it get etc. and you are the only one to mention it. Low ceiling heights. Any insulation? Would it cost a lot of money to run a split-system every day? Just curious.

Thanks Michael, I have such a strong love for Palm Springs and mid century modern. I’ve been twice and stayed both times at The Rivera , you can almost imagine yourself being at one of the Rat Pack weekend parties , it’s so nostalgic. I built my house in Thailand Palm Springs style , massive thumbs up from me xo

I love mid century, it's my passion. Although living on $600 per month after working 2 jobs at a time my whole life, I think it's beyond my budget. I fell in with the wrong guy. My other passion is landscaping. I so admire these architects. If I ever got lucky enough to visit, I would want to stay forever. Which isn't much longer for me.

Again, Palm Springs. Some Great still's and this one is again (as per the previous I posted a couple of weeks ago here on FB) particularly informative. I was hoping to get there for about 5 days as a side trip from Arizona this past winter but didn't make it. Looking pretty positive for next winter though. "Think I'll pay and take the tour" (avoiding 'the ravaging horde' during the mid February festival, of course - would love to be there for it, for it's sake, but wouldn't be able to contend with the crowd).

Palm Springs / Palm Desert / Las Vegas are the perfect environment for this design, the elements, and the experience, not that it wouldn't work in others, just that sliding glass walls are perfect in these areas, with the obvious overhangs-

Wow! I know two of Don Wexler's sons rather well. I JUST put 2 and 2 together and realized this. Both of them are super nice guys.
One of them was my backpacking camp counselor and the other son was one of my cabin/group mates.
We did some very serious 2 week back packing trips in the early 1970's. That camp was excellent, It's the only camp that received a perfect rating of 100% from the American Camp Association [IIRC]. Sadly It is now closed. It was a life changing experience and way ahead of it's time. We would recycle, compost, grow most of our own food, dig our own Wells for water at the main camp, we built several geodesic domes from sapling trees, and we went on intense very long backpacking trips in the Seirras and other NoCal Mtn. Ranges.
I will have to call them and tell them all about this RUclips experience, what a hoot!
    Thanks for the upload!
    R.I.P DON WEXLER!

He so right about the feel of "modern" modern homes with supposed mid-century influence. There is something about the new stuff that just leaves you cold. And you even tell by looking at photos and videos. It's like theres no substance to new stuff, there is no charm. Yet the "old" mid century just oozes with it.

I had an uncle who settled down in palm springs after fighting the Germans in WW1. My grandmother told me of how as a little girl in the 1930s depression they got on the train from Ogden and traveled down to see the movie stars. They got to Palm Springs to visit the relatives who settled there, sun glasses, and furs, and all the bling blang, but when arrived and they opened the cupboard for supper there was nothing to eat in the house at all. All they could find was a can of Campbells soup. This was the depression in S. California hanging out with Shirly Temple and Clark Gable but no food.
