That's why Natchez MS looks just like its Pre-War condition. After the War Between the States, everyone in the South was too poor to remodel, build or update. They just gently looked after their homes and tried to keep the decay at bay.

The essence of simplicity and function can be beautiful. These qualities allow for life to happen within a house rather than the house being the life. Great video, and superb paintings!!

Just returned from Palm Springs. What a surprise to be there and have rain for 2 days!
Getting ready for a return trip in a few weeks. We travel there as often as we can.

We lived in the Twin Palms area for 25 years it was great to see people fixing up these homes unfortunately the extra thick coats of paint is beginning to peel and it's beginning to look run down again a lot of these homes were put together by whose only intention was to flip them
If they put latex paint on top of oil based paint it will peel. Latex paint has to be able to 'breathe'. But it didn't exist in the 50s, at least not widely.

I'm from Minnesota, America's Siberia, and I lived in England for 35 years. There are a lot of great things about living there but, for me, the temperate weather tops the list. The lack of mosquitoes ranks second, though!

@@pyewackett5 Because of the blizzards there. The ice on lakes gets thick enough to drive on and even park on. And there's snow on the ground for five months out of the year. I've seen ice stay on lakes there till June.
It's funny to see that cars in the 50-ties were almost as big as houses.
You can also see some similar designs of houses in Havana. but Palm Springs has more uniform feel to it.

Mid-Century Modern was forward looking. Today all we have are builder spec houses with Roman columns or 19th Century front porches that attempt to bring stability and safety to our lives, but are really bad design.

Europe has many historical styles and long history of protecting architecture, but we don't have such city as Palm Springs.. PS architecture was obviously very unique in the 50'-60' in terms of modernity, practicality and timelessness now proved by the test of time and deserve preservation.
Wheelborn tourists who do this regularly probably know that a part of the 'price of admission' is the drive through the very windy San Gorgonio Pass to the west. Check with locals for best times to drive to/from PS, and avoid a windshield replacement ..
So envious. Wish I could live in PS !! I like you all, believe that a house should be restored to its original colors and look. These developers that remodel all the old houses and destroy their character makes me sick. If you don't want the look of an old house, then DON"T Buy one. Build one or remodel another house.
Was so fun to go there in the 90's before the amateurs arrived. You could buy an Alexander for 45k. Frey would invite you up to swim in his pool.

Palm Springs is in a desert. It maybe hot but hardly gets humid.
Maybe you cats live in Florida, and so Palm Springs seems Arrid to you, but the humidity in Palm Springs averages 40% and feels sticky to us living in California. I live in Yucca Valley, which is just 30 miles from this hell hole and our humidity is half that of Palm Springs.

And then you realize you are wasting your life living in a Sh@t Hole - 3 words, or is it 5 ? - Myoma aka Bermuda Dunes, and Palm Springs - know these places well, grew up there on the weekends - Modern Life Is Rubbish - this dude knows what's what ........Gay Men and French Bulldogs, what's not to like ; )........I've seen the' bones' of many of these Homes - they are SOLID......my arty friends love Neutra and I can't argue, but E. Stewart Williams is my Favorite BY FAR.......cuz I'm really a Fish.
Mid century modern is the only good type of modern imo. It’s so pretty but 80s modern isn’t that good and 21 century modern is horrible. At least we have fake traditional McMansions in the 21 century. Those are pretty😋
