Lautner was certainly one of the great designers of his generation. He started out as an apprentice with Frank Lloyd Wright when Wright was doing his southern California homes. He clearly learned Wright's lessons and made them his own.
It thrills me to see this house in such pristine condition. It doesn't look as if it's been restored. It looks as if it was miraculously preserved in its original state.

Just discovered this house is now on the market. I hope the new owner will cherish it as much as Peter Tangen has done. Such a gorgeous house.
I love the light coloured wood floors in contrast to the richer toned wood on the walls and uprights, and both being in perfect harmony of colour tone. Fabulous location for a house, and you can see how Lautner took great care to integrate the house into the landscape there.
So happy that the best person had bought this house 30 years ago and restored it beautifully; and kudos to the estate agent who showed it to him despite it not being in the area he wanted to live in. I the Love this house! Thank you for this beautiful video!

I am amazed to hear someone explain the feelings that can be shared from a lovely home where design and a sence of space has been so well done. That is also why i feel sad for people that can't see this and think that living in a white on white box is what makes them happy. It's because they live a life with there eye's and senses closed.

Never knew much about mid-century modern until I bought one in NC. I'm just about ready to pour money into this house for exactly the same reasons that Peter described! I live in an HOA where I have to run everything I do by them first but I think they understand that what I want to achieve falls in line with the natural beauty that the house is surrounded by. Nestled in the town of Brevard in the Connestee Falls development, the house was built in 1972. It has many MCM characteristics. Open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, wood beams that extent through to the outside, trapezoidal windows two fireplaces and so on. The house is situated at the top of a hill at 3100 feet above sea level surrounded by hundreds of acres that are in the community preserve. The surrounding area has several national parks including DuPont National where most of the waterfall scenes for the movie Last of the Mohegan's was filmed. We are also 20 minutes away from the SC border. Let me know if you want to see this home. TY

Peter you are lucky that you live in a home you enjoy but one that speaks to you. As I write this you are talking and the words are so poignant as if you and the house are one. So glad you appreciate this style architecture, and your real-estate agent knew you so well. I grew up in a modern home in Florida and this year I have completed my home in Augusta GA that speaks to me. It is a new Mid Century Modern home that brings joy to me and many others that I never knew loved Mid Century. Its in a historic district so I had many hoops to hop through but the end result was worth all the decisions and hard work getting it approved and from paper to growing it from the ground up. First Mid Century style my 80 year old plus architect and firm had ever built. Again so glad you love love your home. My son lived in Studio City for many years and I saw a home from the roadway that appeared to be somewhat like your home. I saw it on the left as we rounded the curve and watched until it was out of site with glee.

I believe so … Lautner’s attitude was always more focused on the actual, practical implementation of Wrights ideas of organic architecture. Lautner, Jim DeLong, Schindler and Harwell Harris (even though he never worked under Wright as an apprentice) really understood the concepts of indoor/outdoor, Wright being the catalyst and springboard for such amazing houses. Bravo!

I'm going to make a blanket statement... but hear me out. Pot lights have no place in a residential home. Pot lights are cold, they glare, and they ruin the ceiling. They are suited for malls and department stores. Still.... this is a historic home. Were the pot lights installed in 1953 when this home was first built? If so, this may be the first residential home I've ever seen where pot lights may work. Sometimes it's best to preserve the past. Sometimes not. Peter is a photographer. A camera does one thing, record light. It's up to the photographer to control light. I trust Peter's eye. I trust this preservation. It would be a privilege to see it someday.

I know Lautner was ahead of his time, but those adjustable downlights? Tried to find som original photos online, but can only find stuff from what seems to be the images from the sales ad.
I've seen slot of MCM architecture, but I'd like to see how much this has been altered from the original looks. This house looks so up to date that I'm actually getting sceptical to how original it is 😅
Also the concrete walls look like something made around the mid 2000's
Really wanted to see the house, not just the living room area and the owner. Feels like a sales stunt.
