2022 Cadillac CT4 V Blackwing Is Black Art Performance
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2024
- The 2022 Cadillac CT4 V Blackwing is what happens when a wallflower sedan gets infused with superpowers. The twin-turbo V6 belts out 472 horsepower. The Brembo brakes will stop a train. And when it’s not slicing up a track, the Blackwing is a docile grocery getter. All of that and it’s available with one of the best manual 6-speed transmissions on the planet (or choose a 10-speed automatic). Tom Voelk checks out a well-equipped V Blackwing on an empty backroad and finds General Motors doesn’t get credit for it’s excellent chassis tuning.

As always, excellent video tom! By far some of the highest production quality in the automotive youtube space combined with a solid consumer review!
This is very bittersweet. Cadillac is going all electric and these performance vehicles are dying off. Its a beautiful car. Well done Tom! 👏
The Escalade V has been confirmed and is still yet to come out. Cadillac hasn’t actually finished with performance vehicles like this, nor do they have to until 2035. Escalade V proves there’s much, much more to come beyond these two Blackwings. At this point, the “last” monikers are nothing more than a marketing ploy, as proven by Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz, BMW, etc.
Also by BBB not passing, we may see ICE vehicles a lot longer. I can say I'm not mad about that lol. The joy of hearing the sounds of power under the hood of a car/truck v6 twin turbo or v8 is just bliss
Love the review…..I love driving this car in the PNW…so many great curvy roads to enjoy the car on! The drive from 410, to 12, to 123 is just wonderful! Just one correction: Key fob is actually painted to match brake caliper colors. Anyways, great to find a PNW automotive reviewer !
Very jealous, that is one cool car!
Beautiful piece of machinery. Great review mate! Thanks a lot for that.
I haven't seen a single V Blackwing on the road, yet. Very understated looks and hopefully those who own them get to enjoy them.
Neither have I. Just saw my first Maverick in the wild last week. The chip shortage is tough.
@@DrivenCarReviews I love mine! They're out there :)
It's the one I'd buy. In blue. Gets better gas mileage than the BMW M3, 16 vs. 18mpg. RWD is fine for me, like you said, tires.
I'm stunned that they offer a manual in this car (or any car anymore). It may not have the cache of its competitors but it is better looking than all of them by far. Great design language. That engine barely fits in the bay. I bet a grain of sand would never touch the ground dropped over it. Carbon fiber bits and bobs look good without trying too hard. I think it shares the chassis with the current Camaro (not sure) and that might explain its good handling and suspension performance. Looks like you had a lot of fun for being at 'work'. Great review!
GM doesnt get its due because they build a car that is THIS good...and they also build severl other cars that are POS-headlights to exhaust...and for some reason they just dont seem to understand that. Toyotas sell because they ALL are dependable & capable, even though they are soulless. Hondas sell because the ALL are reliable, econos to sportys to SUVs. Yet U.S. automakers can make some wonderful autos...right along side some of the crappiest modes of transpotation out there...and expect folks not to make the connection. Caddie has ONE vehicle people love and respect-the Escalade...now maybe two with this one
Loving mine. Glad to see you got to drive and review one!
I really enjoyed the "The Princess And The Pea" reference! Gotta love a well-read car reviewer, such as Tom!
Informative review and content. Nice to see a presenter actually enjoying a vehicle without 5-7 minutes of nitpicking on why the infotainment system doesn’t land the Space shuttle.
Seems Cadillac is just stuck lately having to 'prove' its image into the millenia age more than it has to do with horsepower, torque, drivetrain suspension formats, feature- trim packages etc.. Thanks for bringing this manually shifted CT4 Blackwing by, Tom- this is a fun spec! Like you, am on the 'wet' coast would've also want to see AWD on it. I believe Caddys are supposed to be sturdy tanks : p
Great review 👍🏻 Always been a GM fan and now they’re making cars I knew they could make - the car future is bright..
I appreciate your love for Cadillac and ability to see how awesome the brand is. Just wait for Escalade V Tom, it’s coming. I find the interiors to be nice in the CT4. Decently finished for what it is and certainly nicer than a CLA or A Class, etc. those arguably have more plastic than these do, even in their highest trims. I do wish Cadillac put wood or some type of trim on the doors though. Screen is supposed to be getting bigger but who knows now with chip shortages etc. You certainly can’t get massage in a CLA or 3-Series!
Actually, even though I own a Cadillac, I don't really have a love for the brand. I'm cold hearted that way. A few of its products have been outstanding and don't get the appreciation they deserve. But I'd only love Cadillac after GM lets it truly be full-on Cadillac, without compromises.
@@DrivenCarReviews IT DRIVES ME CRAZY THAT CADILLAC IS NOT ALLOWED TO GO FURTHER but expected to overcome Mercedes and Porsche. The higher ups are trash really. It's an impossible task.
@@MrSupersaiyangoku Not in the EV world which will be a different ballgame for *gm.* Cadillac has gone back to their “Standard of Luxury” approach and it looks like they’ve returned to their former glory except now it’s in the EV market starting with the Cadillac Lyriq which rivals even the best from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Tesla.
@@mybro727 , the EV world will be seen as a scam and it will also be exposed as such. The ICE vehicles will roar back and the envirotards will be exposed, as they were back in the day. You may have heard of some of the first ones in the modern era...they were called Nazis.
@@paxhumana2015 I’ll be glad when weirdos like you mysteriously lose access to the internet spreading ridiculous bs and further dumbing down the American population.
Love mine. I switched from Corvette and am impressed.
6spd or auto. If auto is the transmission fast?
@@daboxer181 6 spd. This car should not be ordered with an automatic
@@SongwritingLPT2023 I can't do stick in my city. The traffic is nuts. Been driving stick for 6 years as a daily, can't do it anymore. I heard the auto is a good transmission. I need auto to chill and paddles for driving more spirited
Ya. Whatever. 6 spd is meant for this car.
Great review..worked in Detroit for many years and drove all makes and models on roads and test tracks. GM..hands down had the best handling cars..Olds, Buick, Pontiac..they were all fun to drive. Think they had the best power steering as well...
Right? BMW got the branding right. GM just can't get the love it deserves. Camaros are a blast to drive. Too bad you can't see out of them.
@@DrivenCarReviews Yes..like playing blind man’s bluff
@@DrivenCarReviews GM marketing sucks. I discovered the ATS-V on youtube
Hey Tom. This will be a collector car for sure.
I'm thinking that, but better to just enjoy it.
It’s like a BMW, but for people who actually like to drive and enjoy proper steering feedback.
It’s like what a BMW used to be.
I love when your videos drop at 10am EST
New strategy from a consultant. Helps my reach to drop them at 6PM EST. You can always wait until tomorrow morning...
Seems like fun. I've never been a fan of the sharp angles on Cadillacs. Maybe I can rent one some day.
What a great car that no one will buy or appreciate sadly
You're the best, Tom!
Please tell me that hideous spoiler is optional.
You are right, Tom. Your videos look amazing on my 65 incher.
I color grade the shots for those who watch it that way. And a surpassing number of people watch my stuff on TVs.
small correction: the fob is the color of the calipers, not the car. In your case, they're about the same. But that's not always the case
Mine is on order. One minor correction - the keyfob matches the brake caliper color - not the body color...
Fun Video. GM leadership is made up today with mostly engineers now and it shows in their products. The Alfa Platform which the CT-4 and CT-5 are based on is truly a world class chassis. GM also has some of the best steering right now in the business. Nobody makes a bad car anymore and GM has come a long way. It just seems that journalist target GM every time something goes wrong in the auto business. It's not fair. I own several cars from Japan, Europe and V Cadillacs. I think the V Caddies are by far the best driving cars and I have found them to be very reliable.
Tom, I note, with some interest, a manual transmission has been conceived, developed, engineered, tested, approved, manufactured and installed by Cadillac for this performance sedan.
If little old GM can do it for the CT4, why can't big, bad Toyota Motor Corporation do it for their Lexus IS?
Toyota can, it just doesn't.
@@DrivenCarReviews "No more boring cars" my eye!! ;-)
@@DrivenCarReviews They don’t because they can’t compete. Either that or they actually _can’t_ because TRD doesn’t have this caliber of engineer.
Cadillac is for driving.
Lexus IS what you’re ultimately buried in.
@@michaeljordan6008 Someone should run that slogan by Akio Toyoda.
GREAT review as always Tom! I always learn something new from your reviews (e.g., Standard of Excellence bit.)
Just a couple of notes:
-A short press of the talk button on the steering wheel will enable you to talk to the Cadillac assistant to do things like change radio stations, cabin Temps, etc.) Longer press activates Alexa/Siri/Google you've setup as preference.
-Blackwing key fob is color-keyed to brake caliper color.
-Every car I've owned in the past 15 years or so with a battery in the trunk (Volvos, BMWs, Cadillacs) has a remote terminal for battery jumper under the hood. Pretty sure my CT5-V Blackwing does (I go check when it stops raining) and would expect same on the 4 BW?
Yup, the voice assistant is useful, but not nearly as good as Mercedes and BMW (possibly the new Lexus system in the NX). Those natural language systems are very strong. I'll save you the trouble of looking under the hood, there's a + terminal there (a bit too clever for accuracy when simply finding a creative way of noting the battery is in back). Huh, I was told the fob was paint matched. Works for the calipers too! Cheers!
Great review - the terrific manual alone is enough to tempt me. I'm liking your white textured vest, both for style and for your well chosen match to the CT4's interior!
Hadn't even thought of that. I just hadn't worn that vest in a while.
Whisper 🖤 blackwing🤫
The key fob does not match the exterior paint. It matches the color of the brake calibers.
An award presented by the RAC, at the legendary Brooklands Circuit in the UK. My mind is cluttered with far too much of this otherwise pointless trivia... But it was applicable today! 😂
I didn't want to go deep into minutia but yes. And I believe Cadillac won the competition two years in a row.
Picture quality is amazing! 👍
I love the Blackwings. In terms of design, I’d rank the CT4-V Blackwing a notch below the Giulia Quadrifoglio and ahead of the BMW, AMG and Audi competition that you mentioned.
I recent bought a 24' CT4 Sport auto with the Onyx Package on run flat tires with 19' wheels and Brembo front brakes. A bit of a mistake. I'm 69' and 6'4" with a bad back and the B pillar is so far forward that I can't help but make a grunting sound every time I get in and out. Not to mention the pain )-;
Fabulous review despite the bad weather!
Loved the review but you got one thing wrong. Key fobs are brake caliber colored not body colored.
Great review as always Tom. A lot of reviewers keep saying the days of gasoline are coming to an end, etc., but with battery supply issues and the constant delays and manufacturer’s empty promise sabout delivering a fully EV lineup I just don’t see it yet. The gimmick of “one last petrol engine” is great nostalgia bait but like it or not I think in this country we’ll see at least a decade of new gas cars. We’ve sadly got a long way to go still.
Ice will be around longer than people think. Oil even longer. After all, EVs are still made out of oil.
If you notice, I did not say this is the last gas engined Cadillac because I'm of the belief that things might take a little longer than expected. But the transition to EV is very smart for this brand. It's the only way buyers on the coasts will pay attention to it. People I know who've seen Lyriq for themselves have been very impressed with it.
I tend to agree with you on ICE, but EVs should start ramping up quicker in 2-3 years.
Great, just great. GM hits a home run just in time for it to be discontinued.
This is hardly the first time GM has hit home runs in the last 10 years. It just can't seem to market them well.
@@DrivenCarReviews True. I used to sell Cadillacs. It was more work than it should have been
@@DrivenCarReviews Why is always the marketing? Is it ever a possibility that people just don't want it? They have no problem selling expensive trucks and SUVS.
Regarding the "Standard of the World" slogan. I suppose it could also be about the layout of today's vehicles. In the early days of cars, there wasn't really a standard in terms of the layout for the driver, the controls and the operation. The first vehicle to be like how cars are today was a Cadillac. In terms of sitting in the driver's seat, with the steering wheel in front, shifter to the right (North America), gas pedal on the right with brake pedal to the left and clutch to the left of that for manual transmission vehicles. If you could go back in time to the (I think) mid 1920s, it would likely be the only car most of us could drive. Everything else was "goofy" and made no sense. It would be like driving a Ford Model T. Every car shortly after that used that layout. It's why you can get in any vehicle, from any brand, and drive it. Back then, every car was different.
Another excellent review, thanks. If it makes you feel better, it was probably snowing in Duluth when you made this video…
According to my sister, it was MUCH colder.
“Cadillac: GM’s poorly managed luxury brand.”
Nice one 😄 But I’d like to hear you talk about this more. I get disappointed by Cadillac for discontinuing great cars like the CT6, and for never bringing their concept cars to production even though they have the most stunning concept cars ever, like the Elmiraj and Ciel. The same can be said about Buick- some great concept cars in recent years that will never see production, and discontinuing the Regal GS when they should have given it a more potent V6 and positioned it like Cadillac does with the V and Blackwing cars. Buick could rebrand themselves and tap into a much younger market if they wanted to but they’re not even trying.
Blackwing, fire and steel.
this had been the ideal motorization for the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia B (Buick Regal) but those days are over......
Tester Rd? I see what you did there. Nicely done.
Was wondering who'd catch that.
I still have my 2016 CTS-V, and there is no way I will get rid of it any time soon. No V8, no trade in. If they get rid of all V8s completely , I guess I'm gonna have to start buying classic cars. What a shame because they could have a market for both kinds of customers.
The rear styling of the ATS was more pleasing
Great piece, Tom.
Great review Tom. What a car!
Must be one of the very few manual transmission sports sedans available.
Ya really, get it while you can!
The dealer mark ups indicate that some are maybe prepared to pay, respect earned!? Sadly it sounds like ordering from factory is difficult to the chip shortage. Great review! I was sold on this car when I heard that an autoblog reviewer tested the car and immediately placed an order.
To answer your question, yes, I always watch yours on tv in 4k. One of the few I make an effort to do. Thanks for the work.
I put the work in to satisfy myself. Glad you're enjoying it as well.
Key fob color matches the brake calipers, not car color.
Both last week and this week’s video were stuck at 720p60, and no higher setting was available on my (4K capable) Roku. When I loaded RUclips on my android TV instead - 4K!!! Not sure what’s going on, just wanted to mention it if other Roku owners are having issues.
Love them🥰only thing I don't like about mine is it doesn't have a sunroof😏
Green light: Tom Voelk is older than Cadillac. 🤣
Got anything constructive to share about a great reviewer??
Red Light: Darnell Yelity, is dumber than a box of rocks!🤡
Key fob is color coded to brake caliper color not exterior paint
sold. nice video, amazing car. I can't believe a Caddy came with a stick. And a slick one, at that. Be still, my foolish heart.
Why, yes Tom, I DO watch your videos on a big TV...we just upgraded our 65" to a 72". Looking great!
Thank you Cadillac
Awesome car
Tom
Love this car, but I don't see the point of a sedan body style, which is for daily driving, but the car is rear wheel drive? What about states that get snow? Your shoes are just as cool as this car is, something I have noticed in a few of your videos now.
What winter tires are you running here? I have this car and they've been tough to find. I ended up going with a square setup of 255's on all 4 wheels for the winter. I was able to get Blizzak LM-32's on my old ATS-V at the stock specs, but they don't make them for this car anymore I guess.
Edit: I just caught a glimpse of them. PILOT PA4's. Must be either 255's all around or 255's up front and 265's in the rear because they don't make this size in PA4's in the Blackwing's OEM size of 275mm in the rear
That's a really nice SS Impala
Yes manual
When usually most sport versions of European cars are automatic it's weird to see a manual in the country of automatics .
The thing about Cadillac, is they no longer know how to design flashy sophisticated big old school grills anymore. The grill on this beauty looks like a Toyota. They should've had something big and shiny chrome to enhance the value to support the price you're paying for it. Look at the german cars for example. The big chrome grill enhances the look and value of expensive cars 200%
The keys painted to match the brake caliper colors.
13 MPG! Ouch!
I want to go to there
Great car.
Man i want one so bad.
Does it drive well in winter conditions with the winter tires on? Especially with the snow/ice mode on?
Winter tires always help. Always.
This car is 🔥
The Holden Commodore
Great historical information
The brand has some amazing history. The first with electric start and headlights. The first one-piece curved windshield. The first climate control. Kind of fun to read up on.
From the front, it has a Beretta GTZ air.
Bogota prison. 😝 Great review as always 👍
Did you say Bonnet? LOL, I thought you were in the PNW! If this car can't do 0 to 60 in that weather, is it really worth the price!
Looks like what the SS would have looked like by now.
I’ll take one in Orange Blaze Metallic, please.
love it! Not feeling the carbon fiber bits.. looks like an aftermarket after thought.. ( don't get me wrong i love carbon fiber just not these )
Key is painted *brake caliper* color.
Did you win the race?
Otro gran auto y video.
;-D Nice Road Test...

Hmmm, did you try the link that's on the main landing page in the header? It's near the D logo. It's working for me. Thanks for trying, let me know if there are problems.
Heated seat and steering wheel are required for consideration. It would be nice if you would tell us whether there is a physical button for steering wheel/seat heating, Tom.
There is a button on the wheel for steering wheel heat and on the lower dash for seat heating (and another for seat cooling.) Also, a button on the seat frame for lumbar massage.
Pristine edge
Hey Tom, another excellent video as are all of yours. Quick question. I’m guessing you have no control, but many other reviewers have done this vehicle a while ago. Why is that? Leaving best for last?
My first time chance at it. I live in Seattle and unless I go to events, this is the way it goes. The PNW tends to get press cars after California outlets.
@@DrivenCarReviews yep, I know where you live. You make no secret of it. I’m speaking of, for instance, straightpipes, savagegeese, the former in Canada, the latter in I believe the Midwest. They’ve done the CT4 and 5 V.
Lots to like here (ESPECIALLY the manual trans) but sadly Caddies are too rich for my blood :(
Nice car for the 90's, not anymore...Front daily lights remmember Peugeot 308 teeth of lion. Congrats for another complete car analysis. Your channel is the best choice for car reviews. By the way, BMW M440i X Drive coupe still insuperable for me.
😂
It's crazy how many instrument clusters the LFA has inspired. Well, Toyota is raining in Buku bucks.
I’m sorry on a 60k car that orange peel is unacceptable. Particularly with an added paint up charge.
It's very common on water borne paint, no matter what the price of a car.
@@DrivenCarReviews so your saying that you’ll see it on a cayman? I think not. If that happens on water born paint then sand it or use a different paint. A 60k car is not a cheap thing it shouldn’t look cheap particularly when you are paying extra for special paint. It should look special if you are paying specially for it.
@@mizinoinovermyhead.7523 I've talked to paint companies, I've shot hundreds of cars. Modern paint has more "orange peel" these days. Even more expensive brands (not all). And every time I see it when I'm shooting (which is quite often) I think to myself "someone's going to comment on this".
It's in the clear coat of every modern mass produced car today. It's a result of how we eliminated harmful solvents.
🤢 I'm glad you like it.
EDIT: Tom, I believe you have a typo in the Green Light section: you have prefect, but I'm sure you meant perfect.
Thanks for that! There's always one gaffe.
The key is painted caliper color! Not body color! I have a black one with red calipers and the key is also red.
Somebody tell me why they give this car 515 HP???
Re: 4K - I could not care less. But if you get it free from your camera, why not. Maybe your reviews will be picked up by Netflix, who knows. I do care about frame rate though. Anything below 60 fps is not good enough unless you shoot a movie, and 15 fps like manufacturers' promo shots at 15fps that you used several times, is unacceptable.
No 2 door HURTS!!!!
