@@lisadeangelo244 haha. So funny mine is a mechanical engineer as well! However he’s worked in management for most of his career so maybe that’s the problem lol

I'm not a dishwasher expert, but when we got ours I was concerned about the long run time... almost 4 hours! So I did some research and learned that the reason behind that is that newer dishwashers are made to be energy efficient and they use less water, cycling through the same water a couple times... and that's why it takes so long. When you do express wash it takes less time but uses more water.
Same, this is what I gathered after watching many videos that express wash uses more water and electricity. So we run our dishwasher overnight at 3:30 hrs/mins. Also, did her wine glasses break?
They are also slowed down if your water isn't hot enough, (at least some) will use the heating element to get the water to temp and that takes more time.

@@sunrae7680 running the water in the sink until it’s hot also decreases the time of your washing cycle. A lot of the time is dedicated to getting the water up to a hot enough temperature(this saves me about 30 minutes). And also, the hotter your water is, the better your dishes will heat dry, if you use that setting.
Always learn something new from you! Two things to share. When the tech installed my dishwasher, he told me that using a rinse aid (Finish) not only helps with spots, but will also dry your plastics. It works! (I notice it doesn't on the short cycle. Maybe not enough drying time?) In Italy we choose the long cycle (especially the "ECO" - ecological ones) because they use way less power compared to a quick wash! 😉 Also we never open the dishwasher when it has just finish the cycle because the steam ruins the kitchen furniture over time 😃
Absolutely. The interdependent factors are roughly grouped into Time, Detergent, Water Usage, Power Consumption & Soiling. When one wishes to reduce Power Consumption alone, then the other factors need to go up. As detergent and water are costly too, and soiling cannot be reduced (unless one does pre-washing by hand which defeats the idea of convenience), the only factor left to increase is TIME. Lower temperatures, less water but a longer exposure to the spraying action does give good results while keeping the kWh consumption low.
I'm amazed at the energy and water saving dishwasher the builder put in my new home. The SHORTEST wash cycle is 271 minutes!! I ran it empty and now use it as a storage unit for pots, pans and dishes.

This was a perfect video! I’ve been working on appliances for a long time so I know all of this and this is such a great informational video for those who don’t know about dishwashers and the essential key factors that are extremely important, such as making sure the spray arms can freely spin and also trying different detergents. Great video!! I use cascade gel with Dawn chlorine free and also cascade platinum here and there it just keeps my machine extremely fresh.
My dishwasher is older, but the Cascade makes it work AMAZINGLY well. It was such a game changer just to change tabs, they really are the best. I’ve been doing a lot of these things in my own machine for a while (my Mom taught me well, she’d love you!), but I NEED to try the baking soda and vinegar. I already clean my drains with it, but it might do a better job on the icky, tricky screw-in filter that even Lemi Shine and Affresh can’t completely get clean. Excited to see the hand wash video to see how to properly tackle stains in wooden utensils and cutting boards, and burnt on food. I REALLY need that!!!
I love this Brittany!!! I’ve been watching you for awhile and I love that you’ve “loosened up” a bit from the perfect and scripted style videos. love your personality and sense of humor. Thank you for letting it come through. 💜

Run water in your sink until it is really hot before you run the dishwasher. That way the water in the dishwasher is as hot as possible. I also run mine when the electricity rates go down. Usually after 11 PM
Those are some awesome tips ... I, unfortunately/fortunately, have a commercial dishwasher-sanitizer in my kitchen. The beauty of it is that it only runs for like 7 minutes instead of hours
As someone who frequently does dishes in my house, I learned many of these things in my own, but learned new things from this video. I will especially be using the dish pod trick, so much easier to remember. Thank you for the tips
A dishwasher repair man once told me to run the water in the kitchen sink until it gets really hot right before starting the dishwasher. It saves the dishwasher from having to heat it up prior. I’ve always had really clean dishes since I’ve done this. 👍🏻 I also always put in my kitchen 🧽 sponge.
You learn something everyday, many things if you put a little effort. Great video! We have the same brand of dishwasher, different model. Mine has the same system for the top rack but my cuttlery basker is on the door. Also, this is the second video I see that says to not put the dishes in too clean. How awesome is that! Thx for the dishwasher cleaning idea, that's what made me find this video! Cheers
Yes. The manual is actually better. And instructs to *combine* the lowered rack and the stemware stabilizers so there’s no need to lose 1/3 of your top rack capacity for wine glasses. Sad.
Good to know some of these tips I don't have a dishwasher in my apartment but once I get my house their will be one and now I know exactly what how to clean it and to make more space
My dishwasher says the longer “ normal “ wash is more energy efficient than the express wash. The express wash uses a lot more water and power to get dishes clean in that short amount of time.
Re: the makeup brushes.....I would only do that if using the air dry cycle and not the heated dry cycle. The high heat can cause the glue that holds the top part of the brush onto the handle to lose its hold, causing a wobbly brush that will eventually become unstuck altogether. I'm not even sure I'd trust the hot water to not cause that, actually. I saw a tiktok a while back where a boyfriend did that 'hack' thinking he was being helpful, and all the brushes were ruined.
I thought I was losing it and had to rewind ~ Totally thought you said "Ginny" towards the end! I had just been thinking on how much I despise doing dishes...and you were calling me out!!
You shouldn't do that with a newer dishwasher as they have a pre rinse cycle. You would end up washing a lot of your soap away before it even has time to be used on your dishes.
Great video! I feel like dishwashers are a waste of water and take so much longer then hand washing, I'm old fashioned I guess. But I needed your positive energy in my life right now so I watched it. Can't wait for the hand washing video!! Thanks Brittany!
My brother tells me (he knows so much!) The wine glasses are not to be cleaned with detergent. Only hot water. And maybe vinegar. This will keep the flavor of the wine from being disturbed
Sorry, but that doesn't make sense, because glass is not porous and doesn't absorb like paper or plastic. Maybe rinsing the glass before pouring the wine would assure that you don't have soap residue. Also, I would think (and hope🤞) the wine makers prewash the bottles before wine is placed, so how is that any different from washing the glasses?🤔
Not too sure about this. Legally, commercial places have to use soap and crazy hot water and steam to sanitize dishes and glassware before use by customers. Detergent removes grime from building up and should rinse away with water. If you still taste detergent, should rinse longer.
I know your Not supposed to put the pods in the liquid dispenser. We were told to throw it in there and it will get mixed in with all the water and clean way better. And also if your dishes are not drying you need to get Jet Dry!!!! Is will make a huge difference!! There is a special spot for it and make sure it stays full! It depends on how much you run your dishwasher but for us it’s every night and we refill the jet dry every 2-3 weeks.
So agreed on the Jet Dry! Regarding the tabs - if you struggle with the tabs not releasing from the designated dispenser then you should definitely throw them into the bottom of the dishwasher instead. If your dishwasher doesn’t have trouble releasing them, they work completely fine being put in the dispenser. That’s my experience at least 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve tried both ways with super dirty dishes to test and there was no difference
After I watch one of your videos, I always have a smile on my face. Thanks so much Brittany ! I will pass this along to you, my son had asthma when he was little and I noticed that the kitchen would have a bleach smell after I opened the dishwasher. I quit using any dishwasher with bleach for two reasons : !. I id NOT want the air in my house to have bleach fumes because it is not good for people with asthma. 2. Also I researched bleach and found out that if the temperature of the water is too high, it causes the bleach to break down and it will lose its disinfecting quality. I figured out that was the case in my dishwasher.
I saw another video that pointed out by the end of that cycle you have cold water because it recycles the water. The rinse water might be new but it won't be hot going in just like your faucet water isn't hot immediately.
I think not rinsing is ok if you're going to start the dishwasher right away but we only have to run ours about every third day. That food doesn't come off after sitting a couple of days and it starts to smell foul as well.
Wonderful tips, thanks! I use the express wash only if I really need certain dishes done quickly for immediate use. The instructions that came with my dishwasher say that the express wash is much less energy efficient than the normal and heavy modes. Even though it takes less time, it uses more water and electricity.
Yes, I really like my new WP dishwasher racks. Really like the Cutlery tray on top. Had a electrolux before and the racks were awful, glasses had to be packed a certain way or they would slide all over.
OMG. Here it is Saturday morning watching your video. Went over to my dishwasher and found those two tabs for adjusting the racks. Pretty cool thank you.

I love this Brittany!!! I’ve been watching you for awhile and I love that you’ve “loosened up” a bit from the perfect and scripted style videos. love your personality and sense of humor. Thank you for letting it come through. 💜
The dishwasher repair guy told me that products like Jetdry help break up water molecules, especially hard water to dry most efficiently with no spots. It's essential to have it, as it also helps clean the interior of the washer.
I loved watching your videos but now I am IN LOVE with your videos your ending always make my day with a smile!!! I'm so glad you added those to the end of your videos!!
Lol, always love staying till the end to see what Ryan is up to, Great to know that I’m doing everything right with my dishwasher, Thanks Brittany. 💙💖🤣🤣
Usually learn a lot with your videos, but knew all of the hacks/tips of this one
I use my dishwasher for fall/spring cleaning my glass globes off my ceiling fans, my glass trays in the bathroom and dressing rooms, my bathroom accessories, candy dishes, pretty much everything I can get away with.
Hairbrushes.
....and glass shelves from the refrigerator!
This is the third video about dishwashing I am watching today and I still learn something new~!
Running to my dishwasher now to see if the top rack is adjustable!
…and the verdict? Can’t leave us hanging here 😂
Super helpful 😊. I bought the amazon clean/dirty magnet. AMAZING ! Thank you for the towel tip and glad to know Express cycle is worthy. I almost always use Express. And also the raise top rack option. Very Appreciated your Video 😊
Run water in your sink until it is really hot before you run the dishwasher. That way the water in the dishwasher is as hot as possible. I also run mine when the electricity rates go down. Usually after 11 PM
I do the same.
My dishwasher is plumbed into the cold water feed.
Guessing this is for US not the U.K. we have cold water fills
By the time I’ve done that and wasted hot water, it would be easier and quicker to wash my pots in the sink.🤷🏼♂️
Yeeees Cascade Platinum is really good! Is what I use too
Those are some awesome tips ... I, unfortunately/fortunately, have a commercial dishwasher-sanitizer in my kitchen. The beauty of it is that it only runs for like 7 minutes instead of hours
oh wow!!
As someone who frequently does dishes in my house, I learned many of these things in my own, but learned new things from this video. I will especially be using the dish pod trick, so much easier to remember. Thank you for the tips
Haha, you left Ryan speechless with the skid marks comment at the end…way to go Brittany! 😂
He wanted to bust out laughing.... It's okay, I laughed for him. Her endings are the best!
That really was the best ending!!
Awh thank you. Perfect video. Yeah ive always washed dishes by hand so this is my first time using dishwasher
A dishwasher repair man once told me to run the water in the kitchen sink until it gets really hot right before starting the dishwasher. It saves the dishwasher from having to heat it up prior. I’ve always had really clean dishes since I’ve done this. 👍🏻
I also always put in my kitchen 🧽 sponge.
Cheers
Am I the only one that reads the manuals for her appliances? Or who's with me? lol 🙈😅😂
Really can't believe I've wasted 10 minutes watching this. Read the manufacturer manual.
Yes. The manual is actually better. And instructs to *combine* the lowered rack and the stemware stabilizers so there’s no need to lose 1/3 of your top rack capacity for wine glasses. Sad.
your not blonde
Good to know some of these tips I don't have a dishwasher in my apartment but once I get my house their will be one and now I know exactly what how to clean it and to make more space
My dishwasher says the longer “ normal “ wash is more energy efficient than the express wash. The express wash uses a lot more water and power to get dishes clean in that short amount of time.
That’s interesting. I hadn’t heard that. I use that short cycle all the time. I will have to google my washer. Thanks.
You're the best! I'm going to clean my dishwasher now!
Great tips! Love that skit at the end! "Pokey do-dads" 😂
I am about to wash my dishes and was looking for a video to watch as I am doing that and… you just uploaded this video a minute ago! Perfect 🤩
If your dishwasher tab/soap pouch won't fit in the dispenser or gets stuck, just throw it on the bottom. It will dissolve & work just fine.
You shouldn't do that with a newer dishwasher as they have a pre rinse cycle. You would end up washing a lot of your soap away before it even has time to be used on your dishes.
@@buddyholly4672 i have a 4 yr old LG dishwasher & have never had an issue.
I’ve heard this before, but I don’t see how hot water (not even boiling?) can kill germs and get the glass really clean.
I’ve heard this as well. Strange!
Thanks. Also glass gets scratched in the dishwasher over time so only wash the glasses you don’t mind replacing
Great tips!! some I knew some I didn’t 😲👍🥄🍴🍽🥣I so agree on the soap! Don’t forget to CLEAN baskets & where FOOD STAYS
I agree Cascade platinum pods are the best. We have hard water. Works great!
Great tips Brittany , I feel good because I already have been doing all this things 😂😊
Very useful video. Love that it was short and to the point, less talking at the intro.
I can’t imagine my life without dishwasher 🤪🥰
I heard that the normal wash is 3 hours to use less water. Hot short rinses alternating with long soaks.
I saw another video that pointed out by the end of that cycle you have cold water because it recycles the water. The rinse water might be new but it won't be hot going in just like your faucet water isn't hot immediately.
I came across this video on FB and I found it very helpful. Thank you. I have also subscribed! You’re such a pleasant person.
I will always and forever pre rinse. There’s just no stopping it.
Same! It’s a habit 🙈
And I’ll keep bitching at my bf when he put nasty dishes with soiled on food in the dishwasher
Sammmmneee
I think not rinsing is ok if you're going to start the dishwasher right away but we only have to run ours about every third day. That food doesn't come off after sitting a couple of days and it starts to smell foul as well.
I pre rinse so that I don’t have to clean the filter out as often. Plus I don’t run it everyday.
You and your husband are the best!! Love when you include him at the end of your videos!! So funny!! Thanks for the tips!
Thank you so much for the encouragement!!
That wine glass holder will also hold light or small things under it. That's what I use it for.
Wonderful tips, thanks! I use the express wash only if I really need certain dishes done quickly for immediate use. The instructions that came with my dishwasher say that the express wash is much less energy efficient than the normal and heavy modes. Even though it takes less time, it uses more water and electricity.
I put my bowls on the top but in the opposite direction. Looks so foreign backwards. 😂
Every manufacturerer has different arrangements
It depends on which way the wire separators are arranged. It's not a universal setup.
I always start stacking from the back forward so to make them nest they would have to go that way. Also I stack them way closer than this lady did.
Loved this video! You never disappoint!
Weird, I work at whirlpool and this landed in my recommended lol. We make mostly 3 rack dishwashers now and the tines are even adjustable now.
Yes, I really like my new WP dishwasher racks. Really like the Cutlery tray on top. Had a electrolux before and the racks were awful, glasses had to be packed a certain way or they would slide all over.
All my appliances are Whirlpool. I've never had a problem with any whirlpool appliance. I'll only buy Whirlpool because it's made in America.
OMG. Here it is Saturday morning watching your video. Went over to my dishwasher and found those two tabs for adjusting the racks. Pretty cool thank you.
My mom’s trick with utensils is to load all the forks in one section, the spoons in one section, and all the knives in a section...then unloading doesn’t involve so much jumping around!
Smart!
Great idea!
I do the same thing! 😊
