The Humane AI Pin solves nothing and makes me feel stupid

  • The Humane AI Pin is slow, finicky and barely even smart. Though the concept is intriguing and the laser projector technically works, most of the execution falls flat. Plus, using it made me look pretty dumb. As it stands, the Humane AI Pin doesn’t do enough to justify its $700 and $24-a-month price.

Everything about Humane felt sleepy from the get-go. Took no brainpower to conclude way in advance that this wouldn't succeed. Just sit this next to the Rabbit R1. The R1 screams fun, play and innocence through good design (and it's 199). While the AI Pin just snores lazy pompous and i mean, the humane team seemed, to me, to be dominated by completely oblivious, borderline narcissist personalities. Not a great combo.

What always gets me with these kinds of crappy product launches is I can't imagine how during all the years of research and development and millions upon millions of dollars invested into the product, not one person (in a position of power) looked at this and said, "yeah, no, this is not good enough, let's try something else." This is exactly what rewinding a VHS tape was! It was a super annoying problem created by the existence and limitation of the technology. The only difference is VHS gave us home movies that we otherwise couldn’t have. The AI Pin doesn’t really offer anything that a phone paired with a watch can’t already do. The camera is the only piece of tech a smartwatch usually doesn’t have.

They should bring down the price, sell it as an AR gaming system, then use the revenue to make updates to the processing and design to the point that they can allow an open source market to exist and let users create their own useful apps.
I for example see this being really useful in a camping/outdoor wildlife hiking scenario. It could tell you what certain plants are, discern bird or other animals sounds, give directions, track movement. Stuff like that.

I might be wrong but... if they sold this as a phone add on that just used Bluetooth to tether itself to your phone it'd be more attractive. Then it could use the phone plans data connection and could cost maybe $200 at mist. And then a $12/month subscription might make less of a headache.

Any tech that relies on voice commands is not going to be widely adopted. Not many people would like to dictate everything they want to do whole day every day. And I don’t know about US, but in Eastern Asia, forget about using it in public places, here even talking on the phone in public is frowned upon.

Need to connect to WiFi? Use a phone or computer!
Taking off your jacket? Just move the pin to your shirt and enter your password! Repeat when going back outside!
Cloudy day? Just don’t use the laser projection!

Maybe if it could connect to your phone if would be useful
Imagine just using the assistant on your phone without ever looking at the screen
    That's pretty dumb

I can imagine yet another trouble incoming by summer: as it is, this thing already overheats easily and causes dscomfort. Add a nice, sunny, broiling 30-35°C day and people will trash this little monster!
No connection to phone, no 4G/5G, no earbuds... Oh, and I guess it's better not talk about pacemakers, yowza!
Humane should just drop the Pin in favor of a nextgen smartwatch

bro, I have been saying all along that this was a scam since the weird press release closed demo. It seems like they built up a lot of hype on purpose so that people talk about it, and generate money in ads clicks. This is nothing but a tech demo and it's really frustrating to see how often companies release unfinished products and games, only to promise updates later. It seems like we just enjoy the hype and then enjoy the fallout for the clicks? We all know that something is wrong when we can't see something working before we buy it. If it was really good, it would sell itself without all the hype. Maybe I'm just crazy.

Honestly you shouldn't even try to compete with smartphones, you should either complemen them, or offer something new that can't be done better replicated by saying "Hey Siri, do this"

A friend of mine was teasing me recently how can I spend a 1000 euros for an iPhone 15 Pro.
And couple of days ago I showed him this product and couple of reviews… And he was like….OK, that iphone of yours is practically free when compared to this crap….

Besides the first 5 mins of asking how tall the Empire State building is, and how much wood a woodchucker could chuck , has anyone in history ever used a voice assistant to do.. anything? Maybe someone can ask a voice assistant for me and report back?

Why cant they just use an app on your phone to configure it ?. Using BT protocol and oh, might as well allow the audio I/O to be directed to your phone to your headset!. That would solve a lot of the convenience issues.
