I think the best thing about this wonderful time capsule is the art of conversation and the skill of actually listening and engaging with the speaker. Very rare these days where every show it's like everyone is on speed and interrupting each other 😛
See, you get it.
When I was a young tween I remember watching this show every Fri. Night while I babysat. 😊
on wich channel?
OMG nothing on TV can touch this. This is SO casual, SO intimate. Truly a gem. And give it to Hef, he’s not the worlds greatest talk show host, but he doesn’t have to be; he’s stays on point, gets out of his own way quickly, and lets the talented people take over.
Best show for music ever
well put yourself
Sammy Davis Jr. was on of our finest performers. Always a gentleman 🕺🏾🕺🏾
he was an open Satanist
Everyone's an adult. You don't see adults anymore.
God, how I wish I can time travel back to 1968-69 and be a guest at Hef's Playboy Penthouse. What a super time I'd have.
Get in line!
Sophistication. As young boys in the fifties and sixties, we relied on Playboy to learn the important thing...thing like the difference between black tie and white tie, the proper way to uncork a bottle of wine, fashion, music, intimacy and all things cool. Hef was an idol and, in a way, a mentor.
Things.
Look at those gorgeous people. Natural beauty. No heavy makeup (compare to now) no stiff Botox face, no fat lips injections, no stretch out cat facelift face. Viewing this video just made me realize how fake people look today.
patricia bernasconi
Yes - Doug Kershaw was just gorgeous.
Miss Mia Culpa
He was just a sick, cruel pimp - a user and abuser.
patricia bernasconi they were fake then too...they’re just exposed more now
thats what u think so lol
Women were far more attractive back then than they are today. Yes, too much fakery in 2020 girls, and the men too. This new plastic unisex look is so boring.
I can't believe this has been on RUclips for 6 years and I'm only seeing it now. It's a wonderful time capsule of a time gone by. Smart, sophisticated people enjoying great music, dressed to the nines, and having witty banter. Thank you to the uploader.
John Dalton It’s a shame that people only associate our family name with smut.
I agree John, what a great post, so interesting to see what life was like back in 1969 and how sharp Hef was with how he conducts himself. Fascinating stuff for sure.
Anybody else notice Doug Kershaw coming on to Barbie Benton?
@@undederayda2073 wouldn't you ?
@@donovanhefner1130 take it up with the Hefner who put the name in association with such things. I don’t know if you are related to Hugh in any way but he is the reason that only smut and degeneration are what people think of when the name of Hefner is mentioned. 🤷♂️
The music is incredible, the conversations are fascinating, even the banter is qualitatively different from anything you would see on TV today.
At the beginning it appears they needed to have a few more drinks before filming started to get a bit more relaxed.
They had a thing in those days that is in short supply today: something called, "adults".
That truth
@@danielgregg2530 And it was before all the "political correctness" bs.
@@danielgregg2530 True. This was what I saw in my parents and their friends.
This is the grooviest thing I've ever seen. When Jerry Lewis popped up I almost lost it! I grew up watching him.
Around 05:45 the way the blonde just hangs on his shoulder. It's just fabulous. You will never see such a thing today on television.
Barbie was absolutely stunning oh my gosh
Every teenage boy was mad for her, including me!
One of the most beautiful women in history.
She definitely was a Barbie DOLL! 😊
Sammy Davis Jr. Hef had all the best! Sammy was pure gold.
If you liked this, watch Sammy Davis Jr singing Loving Feeling with Bill Medley. It's fantastic and a lot of fun. Medley appeared at least six times on Playboy After Dark., including singing Hold On while walking down that bannisterless staircase holding a wired mic and being accosted by a bevy of beauties. Surprised he didn't break his neck! Lol.😂
Baddest show of the sixties and Hef🐇as usual..always on top and true form to say the least... 👌
They all seemed so relaxed and chill on this show
Because Bill Cosbey made the drinks that night...
@@joemamma7339 😲🤣🤣
Sammy Davis Jr... Good GAWD!!... What a voice . 'NuffSaid.
2Synnful holly shit that’s a mans voice
WOW! that Tina Turner is SO good! Awesome! We knew her longtime drummer "Krigger"
a bit from the Rainbow in Hollywood. He started with 1970's rock band London. Cheers!
Hef made some groovy TV - no agendas
My sisters and I had favorites on the show too. We watched from when it premiered til it went off. We never thought it anything but fun and glamour. It wss this guy I liked. I bet he looks like a baby to me now. Over 50 years ago. Wow.
Oh my GAWD, Tina is AMAZING!!!
Noelle Pritchard Barkley porn
She probably got beaten up by ike after this. But yes. She’s amazing.
The Ike & Tina Turner Revue are about to start wailing in the rumpus room!
Love it! Wish I could hop in a time machine and join the party! Thanks for uploading this classic!
I was fortunate to be at the taping for the second show with Sammy...Neighbor was a cameraman at CBS where they taped the show...No audience, I just sat off to the side and watched all the action...Elevator was on wheels and they flashed the lights and then pulled a pulley to open the door...Showbiz sham at it's best...What was even more interesting was the fact that Sammy's divorce with May Britt was official that very day...Heard the news as I went over the hill from the San Fernando Valley headed to CBS...So nice to see this show after all those years...
Art Breyfogle was he screwing any of those white prostitutes?
+Art Breyfogle Hi Art, can you remember all those years ago if Richard Pryor was there? I think this might be him at 1:22:14 Major bet on this so your help would be greatly appreciated thanks
Nope, think it was the regular black go go dancer on "Laugh In"... Do recall he was on Hef's show all the time and I do remember seeing him there that night...
A classic!
Oh My Gawd how cool
In 1971 I managed the 4th Floor VIP Lounge on weekends at the West Hollywood Playboy Club. Had some good times.
I was head of security for an after-hours club, I spent a lot of time in the confessional lol!
I wish I was born in this era. Rip Hugh
It was pretty cool.
What a great voice and great moves! Tina Turner, a true legend!
This is a vibe. Ike & Tina Turner were amazing!
This is totally awesome. Hef was the best at throwing parties and having everyone feel welcome. I'm totally digging the world of 1969, except for the chain smoking by almost everybody.
Imagine FHM After Dark in 2020. Everyone will be doing bong hits and smoking tons of joints....with Screech and Johnny Football.

I was only ten when this fine piece of bawdy art was made. So, how in 50+ years did America go from this creative masterpiece to all the BSC that is out there now? I'm surprised these type of videos still are on YT considering how everything else is being censored for being too free and real like this fine piece of tasteful art. Thanks for posting it.
This is waaaayyyy too cool for anything on tv today. It’s so far ahead of its time that we haven’t even gotten there yet.
In honor of Hugh Hefner, we should bring the "Playboy Penthouse" back. It was the epitome of fun, class, and maturity. This is something that we don't get to see anymore (at least in my opinion).
Total class. Nothing vulger, profane, or offensive.
Who you gonna get? :/
@@danielgregg2530 Maybe his daughter, she runs Playboy's estate now.
@@TheLeslieMichellecooper would be the only acceptable candidate. He’s very well versed and just put in the bid to buy back playboy.
This is a fucking DOPE show ... highly recommended ... great upload.
Here's a Tip: If you have Trouble Sleeping like Me, Put this Video on, Close your eyes, and Imagine you are there Sitting in the back, just enjoying yourself and taking everything in.
Class and witty! What a wonderful interaction.
Wow! Patty Duke is gorgeous!
You could see her nude in the film By Design. Not bad
Rest in peace Mr Hefner and thanks for all the mammaries.
The man is a saint, I tell you!
( o ) ( o ) I definitely agree!!!
His main girlfriend Barbie Benton was so beautiful... I can only imagine the fun he had!
While at Univ. of Michigan, Connie Kreski (real name Kornacki) was my friend and roommate...lost way too soon..Rest in Peace my friend.
like
I bet my parents were watching this after I went to bed...lol
Cant believe I processed payroll bookkeeping for Hef. @ 919 N. Michigan in the 70s . Luv this show. 🎉😊
Love the midcentury "penthouse apartment"! and staircase. But you'd think with drunk people around, they'd want a banister on that staircase. :)
Who had a BETTER life than U... RIP, T U for creating play boy in a respective manner. Always enjoyed your interviews. Yes I browsed the centre fold, my brother had them delivered to our home, parents paid, hey! He turned 13!! Peace& Love
"respective manner" ? 🤔
Tina Turner singing Come Together the same year Abbey Road was released.
I’d love to have a time machine and live the 60s.
PD: thanks Dave.
seeing something reality tv “esque” from the 60s is so weird. this was a trip
Watch the conversation around Hugh at about 19:45, with Rex Reed, Patty Duke, etc. ..... Then, it will strike you---No one has ear buds in his ears, and no one is texting, and no one is staring at her Facebook wall, and no one is blabbing on his Android...... Look at the richness of interaction, the non-verbals going back and forth, the obvious enjoyment that folks are sharing together...... You don't see this behavior much, these days.......Folks do not sit and simply enjoy each others' company, with no distractions and no disruptions....... I can remember evenings like this, a few decades back....... These Hefner videos are precious recordings of how attractive, successful folks interacted 40 to 50 years ago. ....... Are we really better off, today????
*****
you are absolutly right completly natural people,
sorry that time has gone
You are hanging with the wrong crowd sweetheart...with all that's going on with technology, and now governments and major corporations being held ransom, time to step back to what you know to be true...as Hef pointed out around 46:00...come together. Do you remember the great 'disco records burning party'? I predict a great iPhone reaction of this magnitude...it's coming...or so say all my friends!
Back in my country, sometimes the electicity would go out for an hour or two. During that time, all the neigborhood would gather in someone's garden talk and have fun. Specially, we the kids, had the most fun. Soon, after the eletictiy was fixed, nobody had time to anyone anymore.
Yes it does feel like the end of our society doesn't it compared to how great everything was before the amplification of steroid technology. People are becoming nothing and robots everything just like George Orwell explained.
get on with the times. deez nuts suck em
One of the best shows ever! I really dig those groovy cats---especially SAMMY!!
He took over that episode. The Life of the Party.
heard about the show, never caught it, looking back 50 yrs😀
Ike and Tina= FIRE!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!
I've been trying to find this for a while , so sweet to see such a fresh faced barbi and hef! thank you for uploading 😂
Man, Doug "The Ragin Cajun" Kershaw is really cozying up with Barbi Benton.
I would have too! 😲
We need more of these, thanks!
Rest in peace, Mr. Hugh Marston Haefner!
For anyone who is a bit confused about the title, there were two shows, Playboy's Penthouse which aired from 1959 to 1960 and Playboy After Dark which aired from 1969 to 1970. This show was from Playboy After Dark.
Good to know. Thanks.
Why this was not on our national TV when I was a kid?! :-o
Good times baby… such style!!
hello I'm Brazilian 28 years enjoyed the movie very, very much wanted to be able to participate in a event like this in play boy
It's weird to see Hef young. I've only ever seen him old.
Intro shots and music were done separately. Elevator is a fake box with floor numbers that are lit by hand..doors are pulled open by film crew. This was not shot in a penthouse, but instead on a large film stage on the ground. Everything is fake, except the people, the live music and the conversation...all of which are the most important things !
Best part of the show Tina Turner !
The one and only Sammy, What a talent. RIP Sammy
Lol, Ike looking at Tina while she's talking like, "Okay Bi$#t, better not say nuttin' wrong".😆
Welcome nighthawks, we’ve been... expecting you
What a beautiful show!
Wow! Amazing talent ❤️
Neal Brennan and Dave Chappelle brought me here.
Al Foreman me too
moi aussi
@@ytgadfly what did they say?
Same lol
Yeah, I’m also curious as to how Chapelle would have referenced this…
Kinda interesting that this video shows up in my feed after watching the Diddy indictment. Makes you wonder what kind of FreakOffs happened after the cameras stopped rolling on this show. 😉
This was before my time "34" but thought ill give it a watch quite enjoyed it
Shame there isnt anymore 😔 would love to seen more
My god Sammy! He’s awesome!!!!!!
What a gem!
Sammy was great one of the best in world ooh yeah the big ... my god speechless honestly
What a life to aspire to... "You free tonight? There's a party over at Hef's place."
Was that freakin Bill Cosby with the cigar behind Sammy???? Wow!
Ike and Tina this is amazing
Oh gawd, my childhood of living daily shrouded in cigarette smoke no matter where I went. Up until I was a teen I had sinus issues. Now knowing it was from the secondhand smoke. I was probably a 4 pack a day chainsmoker even though a cigarette never touched my lips.
For a Boomer, you sure are a crybaby; most of us were toughened up in the '60s, guess not all of us.
omg Barbi is so beautiful!
Thanks for sharing this!!
I once read an article that stated HH came out of ww2 with $40 to his name then with a $600 loan and a few thousand from investors he published the first issue of Playboy.
With Marilyn Monroe!
It's Bill Cosby leaning on the piano smoking a cigar while Sammy is trying to start his song
He picked up some maracas and a tambourine didn't even play them it looks like the band is kinda mad at him
@@kalanigermono9581 however he played a pretty smooth bass at the end. His comedic timing was perfect and well practiced. He truly loved his craft. Too bad he was also a creep extraordinaire.
Back then if you were rich and possibly famous you could be 90 years old and Hef had a harem of girls who would do anything you wanted. I think if you were drooling hunchback these girls would have stood around you allnight rubbing you in front of the cameras, preparing for whatever you wanted off camera. Read autobiographies of people who attended these events, he'd set rich men up with these girls, and they were rich men and famous men who lent that fame to him, built his brand name. he sold the girls, their images, the gear, the magazines. He literally was the worlds most famous richest pimp of all time.
If you did this today you would see a few checking smartphones. Never thought Jerry was funny.
Love that intro music.
Great, just great. Tina could really shake it. Amazing comeback in '84; I'll bet she's still got what it takes to shake it. Loving this Playboy After Dark, some lame interviews and humor, but so what? Fascinating time capsule.
Great handle, man. lol.
barbi benton came in to my Dad's lounge Murphy's in Providence Rhode Island back in the 70s. Got her picture on the wall with my Dad. Susan Keiger came in later also. That is the kind of place my Dad's lounge was. Everybody welcome. Dad was chief BS artist and a good bar keep
Funniest thing was that Sammy Davis Jr., would guest star on The Cosby Show many years later.
Why is that funny? Pretty obvious they are friends by their interaction.
How is that the "Funniest thing"? It seems pretty mundane to me.
Oh man i remember that cajin guy from tele in the 70's
❤
I ask myself the same question watching this as I do when I see a 1959 Cadillac... what happened to America? Stick a fork in it.. its done.
Right... So upsetting!
We watched this on tv ... I forgot the week night. Was it Friday? It was pretty good. We were young adults and they were not doing anything illicit or anything. I enjoyed.
I love the 69 playboy after dark . Neat times
Best man to ever walk the Earth. Terrible loss for me and others. RIP. Gone too soon.
The Guy on the Violin was Later revealed to be Hef's Secret Twin Brother...
Lindsay Wagner "Bionic Woman" at 11:51 before she was well known probably a early job as an extra pretty girl on set.
SHARP EYE!
Barbie Benton 😍😍😍 So Young and Gorgeous
This was also said to be on the list of Screen Gems presentations.
Thank you ❤
Great time to be alive
Shake it Man.😄... Toke up...feels n looks badass🍄🍄🍄😀😀
Patty Duke is beautiful here.
All those celebrities looked so young back then.
I was so young back then
So it seems HH might have had the original ' reality show' on tv.
Yes, but I can actually stand to watch this one....
Yeah.. he started it for a few years in 1959 to 60
This is "Playboy After Dark," not "Playboy's Penthouse 1969."
"Playboy's Penthouse" was a show broadcast in 1959. There's no such thing as "Playboy's Penthouse 1969."
Barbie Benton was adorable. The most natural an Beautiful of Hefner's girlfriends.Dorothy Stratten was the most gorgeous of all the wonan that went through the Playboy Mansion RIP DOROTHY
The Cajun dude has his arm around Barbi! Rex Reed LOL Sammy! Harry Reems in the audience. The girls are literally there for ornamentation only.
+Aitch Cee S Yes, women become so much less attractive when those annoying noises start coming out of there mouths. Ah, the good old days when a women knew her place and if she got out of it, she would bitch slapped back to reality.
I noticed that! That guy is downright creepy & slimy. Barbi is like a zombie.
Have you people talking about 'a more innocent time' noticed how HIGH everyone was? It looks like a lot of qualludes were being used. It was interesting, but i would not call it the good old days!!
