So... here's the thing about this guy, though. People who are local here in Seattle know what's up. Whether you like this cover or hate it, go search up his tracks "mercy" and "take me away". Then after you cope realizing that rock may be on the precipice of coming back into the mainstream with tracks like those gaining popularity (and coming out of seattle, go figure) - come back here and thank me. That is all.
Exactly!
I enjoyed this cover and at your suggestion, went and looked this guy up. Just finished Take Me Away and loved it. I'll be giving the rest of his stuff a listen. It seems dumb in hindsight but I think I would have just kept listening to the other covers from this show and forgotten about him, instead of looking him up. So thank you for the suggestion and also the reminder to be more present and open to trying new things.
@@Rschmidt1185 it's not dumb. I'm sure many people already have done just that. I've lived all over the US and indulging in local music scenes everywhere. If I wasn't living in Seattle right now, I probably wouldn't know about him either. But out of all the places I've been, and all the bands/people that I'd consider have the raw x factor - ayron is that guy. And at 34 years old, he finally gets his big break. Not to say that's old by any means, but there's a story of persistence that will define his career one day in the future. It's inspirational, honestly. Enjoy the album!
I can't stop watching.
I was pissed at first but I like this guy. Got guts to do a different way.
I have been burnt out on this tune for years, love this version! Never heard of this dude but love his style!
Dude's a killer. His whole. Catalogue takes me back to the 90s.
@@deanmlshredderand funnily enough, he's from Washington as well. I think Seattle so he does have a grunge tone in his own music
Pitch is important. bummer I wanted to love this
I love this! Don’t know where all the hate is coming from 🎸
Alice in Chains is easily my favourite band of them all (my one year old son loves it! ). I've been listening to ther music since I was a kid, and I've been singing AIC songs for the past 5-6 years. Laynes vocals are defintely not easy to replicate, (even Corey Taylor couldn't come close in the chorus of Man in the Box). and I'm glad that this guy didn't try it. We have way too many "acceptable" AIC covers already (and a few very good ones!)
All these comments about this guy "is not in pitch, has a weak voice, his screaming is lame" are just bullshit. He is a trained musician, a very creative guitarist, all he does is just not trying to be Layne. And whats more important: you can see that he poured his soul into this song, and it means a lot to him. And thats what music is about.
So you can be the biggest fanboy of them all, you can have an opinion, but please be intelligent about it, because theres only one thing you have no excuse for: being a prick.
Personally, I really liked this rendition of one of my favourite songs ever. I think Ayron is in the league with bands like Royal Blood and Greta Van, and I hope he will be big in the years coming. And why?: because for the longest time, his work has that grungey vibe I really missed since the 90's. It would be cool to have a "grunge renaissance", I know it wont happen, but at least, thanks to his music, the younger generations will have a chance to become aware of bands like AIC. And thats a great thing.

People will always be ignorant
Stop it with the "Layne's vocals are hard to replicate". Jerry Cantrell sings Heaven Beside You, please try to credit the right person.
Layne barely sings in this song lol
I bet that a lot of people get caugth off guard when he started singing, not really what i expected
Indeed! Why? Just why?
@@mauroivan2062 yeah i was expecting some R&B style or similar but then this guy is like out of tune WTH
Check his original stuff out. It’s much better. More of a bluesy rock vibe. He’s explained this wasn’t his choice of song
First Layne is so hard to follow...
Second... I love the fact people still want to. Its brave. Hats off for doing so
Third.... Its different. EVERYTHING is a lil off which ACTUALLY brings about the message of the song. VERY INTERESTING.
Since it seems the RocknRoll Hall of Fame is surely going to wait till they are all dead before they insept THEM. At least they are getting the Recognition they Deserve Now thru other avenues. And if Alice In Chains are not in the Hall of Fame before I die..... I will consider it a dead Institution that doesn't REPRESENT THE MUSIC WORLD AND IT WILL MEAN NOTHING TO ME UNTIL THAT HAPPENS.
Again... Hats off to AJ and company for doing the cover. WE MISS THOSE MEMBERS THAT ARE GONE AND SUPPORT JERRY AND COMPANY IN THE PRESENT DAY. LAYNE WOULD WANT THEM TO CONTINUE AS THEY HAVE. ONE OF THE MY GREATEST LOVE IN LIFE IS ALICE... IN CHAINS.
Their music has pulled me thru some dark times and made me realize, I'm not alone. May others Rock on... And others Rest in Peace. ❤️💔🖤💙

Madonna is in the R&R HoF and Alice in Chains are not, so that's all you need to know about what a scam that is.

Que presente!!!
He is good
I absolutely fuckin love it
Why he's squealing???
Now I'm seeing stories calling this a polarizing performance. IDK. For me, I liked it. I thought it was something different. AND... I didn't know of Jones before this. My reaction was to look him up and check out his music.
He's talented. I like a lot of his original stuff. This song is hard for me to judge. I liked parts and disliked parts, but most songs are like that XD
I LOVE THE CHOICE OF THIS TUNE. From my age of badass tunes...you have a Kurt Cobain sound on this....very awesome!
Ayron Jones! He is a genius who does not fit into any category. I am so grateful for this rendition. Great delivery by everyone involved including the film and editing crew. Multi-Like!
That was awesome
I liked
Not a good version of this song. But after hearing his interview with Loudwire I get it. Ayron Jones’s original stuff is amazing though. Love some good old bluesy rock
I like it. Raw talent. I like what he did with this AIC classic
Awesome!!!!
Well, I really really liked this version!! It was different and has a nice groove to it.
Haha is this a dig at that puddle of mudd nirvana cover??
This is far worse.
It has to be
I mean, I’ll give him credit for making it his own but this one was hard to listen to and I usually enjoy this… unorthodox approach to singing. I don’t know, maybe it’s just because Layne was such an amazing singer (even tho this is more of a Jerry song) but this just doesn’t do it for me.
Como dicen different strokes for different folks.😊 feliz navidad y buen año nuevo, ojala.🤞

Yup!
This is rad.
I really like Ayron, I feel like he tried a bit too hard to make it his own and it made it bad. 😅
Unique version! I really really really loved the chorus! Remember this is grunge, fellas. This is not hair metal nor 2020 perfect pitch pop music.
They ripped this
I didn't know about Ayron before. I looked him up after this underwhelming track and... his original stuff is very cool. Take a chance!
I'm white
Thanks. Definitely not my first pick for song choice, but you know when you’re the new kid on the scene you get what you get. 🤘🏾
@@AyronJonesMusic Which track would be your first pick? Someone should have done "Died".
@@davidleewrath6919 rain when I die!! Easily my favorite aic song. But you know, you’re ayron jones and everyone else is a Grammy award winning hall of famer... well let’s just say I didn’t get first pick. This song is actually In a really low register for my voice I originally sang the track closer to the original vocal performance and it didn’t come pop. My only hope of making this a memorable performance (love it or hate it) was to sing it how I did. Now this in no way is my favorite performance but I know that it made in impression and regardless of if it was received well or not, I know people took the time to look up what I’m currently doing and for that I’m thankful.
Most of all I was happy that I was asked to be apart if this. AIC has been such a huge part of my journey and the seattle music community as a whole. This year was a huge year for me as a debut artist in the mainstream. To be asked to the this on top of every thing else that’s been going on was truly a blessing. I enjoyed every minute of it, including hanging with Duff and Sean Kinney while we recorded down in a hole.
@@AyronJonesMusic Nice strategy! It worked with me. As for the cover of "Rain When I Die", that didn't work in my opinion. I still think someone should've done "Don't Follow" or "Died", the last track they ever did with Layne. Or more modern stuff, of course, like what Billy Corgan did. Covering the track that brought them back, which has one of the bendiest riffs of all time. Thanks for reaching out, man. Hope to see you rise even more.
Ummmmm no. Why?
Dude, don't listen to the haters! AIC is one of my favorite bands, and this song in particular was one of my anthems during those angst-ridden twentysomething nights when nothing seemed to go right. I was ready to be hatin', but you shut me up real quick; I'm glad you put your own spin on this classic. My take with covers is, you can either:
a) Stay super-faithful to the original, and do what's already been done before with a very similar vocal and instrumental arrangement. Unadventurous, but OK. Probably nothing to write home about.
b) Create something that's based on the original, but has a personal twist that shows integrity, personality, and a desire to experiment. The chances for failure are bigger, but we know it takes balls to try and do your own thing with an established song.
It's very courageous to do b) when you're playing alongside some of the biggest established names in rock. For that, and for doing a fucking awesome cover, I salute you!
? Dude, I love AIC, but this is wrong! Why if I dont like it I'm a hater?
@@mauroivan2062 No, of course not. We all like what we like, and just disliking a song or having a subjective assessment doesn't make you a hater. I'm just referring to messages with a certain sneering, authoritative tone that are dismissive of the artist.
Certainly, you can either connect with the vibe he's putting out or not and that's not wrong per se. Hell, some people even disliked Ann Wilson's badass take on Rooster!
In the end, what matters is that we're all music fans and that we stay civil and support artists.
This is a great cover.
You could actually dance to heaven beside you both artists versions
I'd call it idiosyncratic, but I feel like it's a thread of culture I'm missing. I looked up some of Ayron's other work, it's fine, but it feels like he's channeling a smidge of Ice JJ Fish here (not even Ayron's usual style) so I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what the missing context/connotations are.
Marketing move. It wasn't a song he wanted to do, so he had to leave a mark somehow.
I think this woulda been better if the band hadn't tried playing a direct cover while vocals was trying something different. They wouldn't of even had to rearrange it. If they'd just slowed it down that woulda been enough to give Ayron a chance to explore.
🖤

Voice is weak. Out of tune. Pays no homage to this. Rip layne
Vocals terrible takes away from the mystique..I'll pass.
I went into this willing to give it a chance. Dang this literally a slap in the face to Layne Staley and All Alice In Chains fans.
No its not. Stop crying
You mean Jerry Cantrell... surely you should know who sang the original song before saying something like that
Not that I disagree.
edit: Layne harmonizes with Layne in part of the chorus, but this guy botches Jerry's solo verses more.. Cantrell moves up slowly into a higher note, but this guy screeches.
First of, before people lose their shit, they should realize that MoPoP probably has good reasons for selecting each individual artist. Secondly, if you can't hear the talent here, go check 'Baptized in Muddy Waters' by Ayron. Think, research and listen, people.
So, which was the good reason here?
@@mauroivan2062 Shining light on an upcoming, local Seattle artist and representing their city.
His own stuff might probably good but this version is shit.
@LessOfMyselfToKill In my honest opinion, the obscure screams and vocals fit well; they deliver contrast and an uneasy vibe. Whether it's an homage to Alice in Chains' raw and dark tones or paying respect to the Seattle sounds' punk-rock foundations, as a hardcore AiC fan I can say it works.
I don’t know Ayron. I love this song, but maybe let Jerry sing this one.
Harmony vocals make this song.
This doesn't just suck in comparison to the original, it sucks on it's own.
One of the best covers...of the chorus part.
Not a screaming song...he botched that.

Layne Staley wasn't one of the Beatles...
... but he wrote songs like he was.
This version is The Worst Ever🤢
It's crazy because the bridge with his vocals is pretty decent. The verses are just whiney and forced. He was trying a bit too much to be different, but I can tell he has a good voice but this experiment didn't work IMO.
This is not as bad as people are making it out. And check out his original stuff.
I didn't like it but I checked out his solo stuff and left a comment here about it since it was way, way better. Got a few lengthy responses from Ayron. Cool dude.

Not quite nails on a chalk board because he does try right here but sorry it's not for me.
I have to say, I can't do any better myself and Layne is the hardest voice to emulate but this is fucking awful sorry. You guys must be listening to it on a better pair of speakers or headphones but his voice is cracking all over the place.
He was singing that way. Check out his stuff. U won't be disappointed
@@danielmiles9027 his album is fantastic. He even said he knew he'd catch some heat from doing this lol. Album is way better.
It's not Layne's voice he has to emulate, it's Cantrell's. Please credit the correct person when referring to the original.
Cantrell's voice is pretty much the most relaxed singing voice there is, this cover is the complete opposite, that's why it sounds so off.
I respect that as an artist, they can render their own take on any song. But how is this man even in the industry. He sounds off keys n a bit tone deaf. Did he do this just to get known? He says he was not able to do anything due to quarantine when he arrived in Seattle. Why not use the time in quarantine to do something. Technology being what it is and he could have practiced/rehearsed with the band, much like many people work now a days. Turn ur computer on and teleconference with the band. This had potential but it would seem that he just couldn't be bothered to do better. The band sounded pretty good though. Good job on the music.
