Man, Shooter did a great job. Didn't try to just copy it, put his own spin on it while somehow still capturing the pain of this song. Great cover.
Definitely.
'I will speak no more of my feelings beneath' and 'guilty for kicking myself in the teeth' will always be powerful lyrics to me.
Sickkkk. Shooter nailed it.
Shooter is awesome. I don't think he would have done the song if he thought it didn't sound right. Killer job.
Layne would've been proud. This was awesome.
Yeah he did!
Hell yeah he did.. Wow
Agree
Nice cover. Duff is such a great multi-instrumentalist.
@Fau Q never seen Dave Grohl playing Bass guitar
@Fau Q just amazing thx bro
He’s a highly underrated talent
@Fau Q individual recognition of talents is literally the opposite of a participation award, stupid. Mind your business, and shut your mouth. Adults are speaking.
Duff also acted in an episode of “Sliders”
Hands down one of the best covers I've heard... The melody takes you through an amazing trip
I wonder if Duff mixed and produced it too?
Whoever did nailed it!
I don't know much of his Work as producer to gues, but his arregements were precise, hell all the song was extreamly well interpreted
Duff can play everything
I saw Alice In Chains on that tour with Gruntruck and it was great to see a flier from that tour. My buddy and I drove into the "big city" to catch them at a university theater building. It was a small venue and we met cool people/hot chicks before the show. The show itself was great...the beginning of the Dirt tour right after Them Bones dropped on MTV (Layne was wearing the same outfit from the video, Jerry was close and still had the blue goatee). After the show, there were only two ways out of that building, so a few of us hung out back and caught Jerry Cantrell. He talked to us for a half an hour and signed all the autographs, the coolest famous person I ever met. Layne walked by at one point...he gave an autograph and then stumbled on, but was cool as could be expected. We also saw Susan Silver there and she talked to us from a second story window for a short time as well. The next day my buddy and I had school as Juniors in a class of 20 people (most of whom had never heard of the band). It was over half my life ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday
I was at that show, I think I still have the ticket stub along with many other stubs from back in the day. Gruntruck was awesome!
Gruntruck was also a great band.
Gruntruck underrated a band. still got the cassete (: somewhere ...
yet getton’ back to them on eg. yt every now and then
I saw the same tour. University of Idaho sub ballroom. Started with Man in a Box ended with Would. Layne just got out of a cast from a broken leg if I remember right. The show was over sold, fire department and cops showed up. Tried to keep people from entering. That didn’t work out well. Grunttruck opened somehow then AIC came on stage with a line of cops in the back. Layne-“What’s with all the fucking pigs in here?” Boom, Man in the Box hit, cops left, great show.
Love hearing stories like this!
Damn Shooter! You nailed brother, you all did.
I know right. I was totally caught off guard by this one.
I know Duff since the GnR days. Man ... always admired his stance and musicianship. One of a kind !
These covers have been great
I'm a huge Alice in Chains fan and I've never heard a better version of this song.
All hail Duff Mckagen…brilliant brilliant brilliant. No wonder AC/DC wants to pick you up for their upcoming tour. Simply amazing.
Out of all the bands covering AIC, this is by far, the closest to Layne's haunting "Hey I am out there" vocals. Seriously gave me chills.
if you've not heard it yet, check out Krist Novacelic and Kim Thayil doing a cover of "Drone" for this event. there's actually 2 gals doing the vocals and it's as haunting as you're wanting to hear. this is badass... ruclips.net/video/Q0MK0rEL1wE/видео.html
Hey there. Why are all the bands covering AIC?
@@kothy7514 they were being honored with the Founders Award by the Museum of Pop Culture
@Fau Q Actually, I do get the point. I am a music engineer in LA and have worked with many different bands here. If you are trying to do a song justice and wish to cover it as the musician you are, do it right. even if it is in your own style. The vocal registry, tone, and overall mix is poorly done.
The woman covering "put you down" puts some serious power into it to be fair. I'm as critical as any, but that one was good.
When he sang “Down” in the first time through the choruses “Down in a hole” - it sounded like Layne. Nice job Shooter.
I did smile when i saw duff playing those instruments
I was standing in line at Starbucks in Sherman Oaks and turned around to see Duff right behind me. I'll never forget that cup of coffee.
Killer version by Shooter and Duff. Duff is very talented musician. And Shooter is himself, per usual.
Duff "I play almost everything" Mckagan
The deeper Duff feels the story, the better his bass (and acoustic, and drums) fills the whole song
Man i love Duff. Thankgod we didnt lose him to substance abuse. Since hes stopped with the alcohol and drug think about all the bands and music he gave us. And still has much more to give im positive.
Finally, a good cover where they're not trying to sound exactly like the original artist. 🤘🐸
I agree it’s a great cover! But I don’t feel like they’ve made it any different than the original.
@@melanieballard110 Same but different ✌
@@METALFROG6 nicely put!
@@melanieballard110 Thanks!!! 🐸🤓😁💋💗
What did you think about them bones cover by fishbone?they put a really cool spin on it.
Actually like Shooter singing AIC
Shooter, please accept my apologies for doubting your musical talents. Dad would be proud!!!
To Layne
Your wings are no longer denied.
Fly..you beautiful soul
Goddamn. This may just be the absolute best AIC cover I've ever heard.
I think Waylon, Layne & Mike Starr would all b proud! Nicely done
Great Vocals Shooter!🤘 Layne is Smiling!
Starr was a great bassist, Duff and Shooter have done a great job. One my favorite AIC songs, thanks from Nashville.
And a good person. Just troubled... Rest in Power.
Nashville here too!!!
This is awesome because it is such a great flavor of the original. Not trying to sound like the original. He's no Layne but still sounds amazing. Nice job!
no one is or sounds like Layne, but that's the beauty of it ;) when you take something that everyone knows so well and do it without making it sound like a shitty cover then you've done a great job
@luke Brendan Maier is the best vocals of Alice music I've ever heard! If you close your eye's sometimes you feel like layne is still singing
c’mon, nowhere near ... just a karaoke
Shooter doesn't have the power in his voice. It's just that simple
Not gonna lie this gave me goosebumps just like Layne did ..... 🤟🤙❤️❤️❤️
Somewhere up there in heaven Layne Staley is smiling listening to this cover. Awesome stuff!
This was beautiful and haunting at the same time.. I absolutely loved it!
Captures the spirit of the original and Shooter has a voice that lends to the sadness of the song 🎵
Just incredible!
The words in this song are so strong, but words cannot describe the feelings it brings. Much respect to AiC and this great cover.
This the closest any of the singers in this tribute have come to capturing the same type of soul and emotion that Layne had.
What about Dallas Green
@@YourCaliBos
He's about as far from Layne as you can get - an effeminate indie pop hipster.
Yeah Dallas was incredible too
@@hinjurock he’s from Alexisonfire , he’s far from pop
@@YourCaliBos
Isn't he from that City and Colour band? Anyway, Alexisonfire sounds like some lame emo or indie rock hipster band too.
Shoot, that Jennings has got chops.
Damn Shooter!!
Best and most thoughtful cover of the night, in my opinion. You can really tell Duff and Jerry (and the band) are not only great friends but that he truly appreciates AIC. Some songs and artist are coverable and others aren't, because there is no need to try, it just won't be good. This was, in my opinion, the only bright moment of the night because they cared enough to do it justice without wrecking it. I think it was a great honor for Alice, just wish some of the other "bands" would have tried harder to be respectful of the master work of AIC. Seems like a lot of the others thought they could, and then found out they couldn't while we watched... Great job, Duff, Shooter, and company!!!
If anyone is looking for the ‘perfect’ cover of an AIC song (with Layne at vocals).....you won’t. There is no one who can come close to the emotional grit he gave to each song....not to mention the depth Jerry added when they sang harmonies....almost, magical. With that being said.....this is a beautiful tribute. ...to honor, not emulate. How special is this?! Layne has been gone for quite some time and people seem to love him more now &/or are becoming more aware of just how amazing he was by way of these tributes. May his light continue to shine!
Duff & fellas.....holy crap what another example of a thoughtfully crafted production. Thank you for your contribution!!
My God, this Is the song of all of us...
Bingo👊
Sure it is.
DAMN SHOOTER! Hell yes!
Duff, Im so grateful you survived and lived to tell the tale❤❤❤❤
Wow - just like I thought in '92 (good Christ: 30 years ago?!?!?!?? ):: that is a HELL of a fuckin' song! Great job.
Wow - what a great tune. When I first saw AIC (Fall of '90 in NYC), I thought "Layne DEFINITELY listened to Guns n Roses" - and here Duff pays tribute to Layne. Great job.
Duff, and Shooter should form a band and tour! 🤘
What I like the most about this rendition is the way Duff enphased the bass line. Mike Starr was very talented and it's an nice honnor to him....
Freaking love Shooter. Awesome to see such a healthy Duff these days.
Damn, this is one of the best ones. These are some dudes that know what they are doing.
Great job! This cover, and "Again" by Mastadon are kick ass!
Layne, Mike S. and Waylon (Shooter's dad, outlaw country legend) would all be proud (R.I.P.). 🤘
One of my favorite AIC song
Ayron Jones is Amazing
I love Shooter Jennings!
Good performance, Deep lyrics!!❤🌈 Layne Staley your not FORGOTTEN!! RIP!!⚘🕊✌
Finally divine justice...
I've watched a few of these AIC covers. From what I've seen this is hands down the best.
Great chemistry like Alice in Chains.
Damn, hit my heart when the old b&w clips started, especially with Mike and Layne.
Damn Duff can do it all
That was a crazy good performance, mix, song, cover... I was singing the whole way through
I can’t stop watching this. I keep coming back, day after day. Shooter sounds great and Duff is so talented.
Duff is a musical monster, and that guy on vocals nailed Layne's tone.
That dude on vocals is Waylon Jennings son
I have no idea how I found this but I'm so glad I did.
The best cover I’ve ever heard of this song. So hard to replicate Layne’s voice.
Shooter!!! What a voice, so fragile but powerful!
Every band needs a Duff...
Seeing the old images of the boys when they looked alive and full of life brought tears to my eyes. For some reason most of my images of layne always stem from the unplugged set but this was awesome to see. Awesome job shooter!
So far the best remake of this song
This cover amplifies the Planet Caravan vibe of this song even more than the original. Great job! The singer respectfully performed it in his own way and it worked perfectly.
Nailed it. That was one for the ages.
Shooter Jennings rocks!!
Killed it! Ayron Jones shreds
Holy shit! This cover gave me chills! Was PERFECT! All the emotions and the pain were perfectly captured by Shooter. All these covers are really amazing.
Love this rendition! Shooter and Duff harmonize very well
This is fucking incredible. Wow. Blown away.
This absolutely rules.
This is my favorite of the series so far.
Shooter got the pipes..peace stay strong..
That was cool as hell
Simply amazing and brilliant cover. Shooter Jennings and Duff McKagan nailed it.
Duff has the Charisma of a Broken Clothespin on the Lawn
Duff is playing everything in the room!
Great to see the multi talented Duff,,,excellent guitars and vocals ..just pure joy to listen
“i have been guilty of kickin myself in the teeth” 👽
😢brings tears man time moving so fast
They showed a flyer for a Alice in Chains show with Mookie Blaylock opening, that was Pearl Jam's original name when they first got together. .
Wow, I'm actually impressed. Sounds great. I would love to hear them do more AIC covers.
dope i have always been a fan shooter since living in the backwoods at days farm... brilliant
Well you just learn something new about Duff everyday. Great cover on this track. I've been listening today about this mopop thing. I'm glad a lot of artists has recognized AIC but a lot are falling short. This.... this is an awesome cover.
Damn how many instruments does Duff play lol. They killed this track. Thanks gentlemen.
What a Beautiful rendition...The vocals, the musicians, I like the guitar and the synth strings, and vibes...Duff playing different instruments...mixed to perfection....AIC must be proud...ThankYou..put this on the radio please.
Beautiful. Left me with 🥺 respect to the great duff and the guys.. greetings from 🇹🇷
By far it was the waaaaay best cover of the whole session. Not note by note, but the whole feelings, the sound, everything...
MAN, I can't write, I am crying..
We miss you Layne!!! 🙏🤗
30 seconds in & it’s already fucking amazing
Can’t. Get. Enough. Of. This. One! Wow! Phenomenal!
The scenes of Mike Statr then Layne are haunting images...RIP brothers
Great cover! I’m impressed with Duff playing drums.
Shooter sounds like his dad !!
Surprised yet not surprised at Duff’s musical abilities. This version does honor to the original. Well done!!
God Damn. I loved it. R.I.P L.S.M.S
