Some of it was already built and painted and some has remained to this day on the sprues. A lot of my skeletons ended up being glued to the front of tanks and on bases for 69% extra grimdark

I think it’d be really cool if once COVID is over, you made some videos about teaching your painting techniques in person with like your own little class, so you’d be painting one model from a set, and each student would paint their own from that set. That way you can cut down on the grey, make some content, get community involvement, and you get to showcase the different results from your tutorial class and display how your techniques work well for beginners.

@@MidwinterMinis It’s a VERY good loophole, and as a sucker for all things Oldhammer and Midhammer myself I can’t blame you one bit. Those nostalgia videos you’ve been doing where you paint classic gretchin and Space Wolves are some of my favorites. 😁

Speaking of 1 year backlogs: I *finally* assembled my Start Collecting Space Marine squad yesterday, that i bought back in January 2020, after my Caliban Green paint arrived. Originally i wanted to paint the figures in the colours of some fictional characters from my youth but that would require me to get at the least 12 different paints, just to use them on one model each. Aside from black and a light grey that is uniform over the 6-person group. --- That would've left 6 more marines, a sergeant, captain and Dreadnought that could've been painted as characters of my own but that would necessitate even MORE one-time paints... Instead i decided to nix the idea and will just paint the entire 12 man squad in my own personal colours of grey and green. Quite convenient too as the models start off grey. :P --- Even so; in efforts to FINALLY get in gear with this project; i've bought more paints, namely an Army Painter gun metal primer along with Citadel's Grey Seer Base and Eshin Grey Layer paints. --- I already have the Death Guard vs Ultramarine paint set that was promoted SEVENTEEN MONTHS AGO so that can provide the accent colours needed for cloth and weapons, plus the sandy terrain paint that's included. I hope the Macragge Blue isn't too dark for the optics but i can probably mix some with the white paint included to brighten it up to a lighter hue. --- Needless to say i'll be using your painting guide video as reference since this will be my first time painting Warhammer. The paint set should provide the required weathering paints like washes and highlights --- Another thing is while building my Marines; i actually did 2 deviations from the instructions: The Terminator Captain is intended to be built with an unhelmeted head but i had a spare helmet head as i'd used one of the Corvus/Beakie pattern helmets. So i pried off the flesh head i'd gone with and glued on the helmet head. I don't know if that breaks lore or not, for a Terminator Captain to wear a helmet, but i don't care. I want my squad to be consistent, even if one has a Beakie but that's appropriate to who i've assigned them to be. --- The other modification is i wanted a Marine to hold a grenade but no hand-less left arms remained. So i unhanded one of the Bolter supporting arms and glued on the grenade hand. Said Marine is rather annoyed that they've been assigned with only a grenade and Blot pistol while most others in the squad have heavier stuff, primarily their best mate who got the bazooka/cannon thing. --- Due to time waning on; i didn't have time to apply the shoulder pads as i had RUclips stuff to watch with only 5 hours before bedtime. I can apply the shoulders once my paints start arriving. --- My younger brother has an even WORSE backlog of assembled but unpainted Daemons Of Khorne/Chaos army plus a Knight Desecrator, but he DOES have some paints he bought so i could see if any of those will be useful to me. I want a Knight, specifically the Warden as the box model's colours are mine inverted, but they're expensive at £80 each...
You have Penny giving you a pat in the back, encouraging you to paint more minis. And a bleedin' Rickenbacker bass guitar. I'd say life's peachy. Also, Penny should already know the twins are bound to be famous people. Imagine, "Lord Mork". Yes. That's mini's lore if you ask me.
My first approach on miniatures hobby was "buy how much you can buy" and I think you know the story... Today mantra is "buy how much you can buy" and work very well! Of course I have also very old models that are waiting to be painted, but today they are less than 50 or to be more accurate: 10 bauhaus hussar form Warzone 2° edition, a Menoth battle group plus an avatar of Menoth (5 models) and an English Victorian fleet in 1/3000 (34 ships). The others are all current project.
Your Pile of Shame video was one of my faves and I'm delighted to see a follow up. Despite your major efforts this year I have a feeling that your net total will still be over 500....
Oh Guy!!! I am disappointed in you! There would be something so satisfying about seeing that pile being eaten away, not growing bigger! :( Daily painting videos please!!
I'm gonna have to check my pile of shame after watching this video. I checked what I had last year and I totalled out at 1700 minis to paint. I have a decent collection of 40k models, and grabbed some of their boardgames too, like speed freekz, blackstone fortress, gorechosen, and the recent Cursed City. The rest of the stuff are from the myriad boardgames I've collected over the span of a year. You're already familiar with how many minis you get from Zombicide so just add all the expansions and they add up fast. I've honestly considered starting a youtube channel where I paint everything over time. Should be fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing more painting videos from you!
Hey there. Completely new to Warhammer and slowly working my way though your video library this week learning alot! Just a quick thanks and I will hopefully be purchasing my first Mini's to get painting. Cheers for the great content!
I’ve gotta say I’m pretty proud of myself; I had a pile of shame for almost 2 years and managed to go from a full Astra militarum army primed and unpainted, some unbuilt, to painting almost EVERYTHING in three months while expanding on it as well, leaving only a storm lord (with a missing tank commmander head) to paint. I celebrated…. By buying more kits XD.
Guy, please do more challenge videos. They are extremely inspiring. I still revisit your 7-day Ork Army Challenge and your 25-hour Bringers of Decay army Challenge videos often. It gives such a powerful arse-kick to sit down and paint - you have no idea. Good luck on going through this ol' pile of shame this year, I sadly don't think that in 12 months you're going to change it all into painted minis, but maybe you can prove me wrong :-)
Love the channel, I started the hobby just under 2 months ago. largely due to this channel making painting look so fun. I have now painted 99 minis and I am currently working on an imperial knight canis rex as my 100th model! And on the topic of audiobooks I would recommend the book brutal kunnin' by mike brooks. I didn't see the appeal of orks till this book. really funny and well written plus no use of the word "BROTHER"
Still waiting for a pile of shame video where someone actually reduces the pile. :D Great video, guy! It's always fun to watch and hear what's happening in your hobby life.
I’d love to see the opposite of this video: I wanna see your whole collection all on one video! From your earliest mini to the most recent... that would be incredible!

@@MidwinterMinis It’s a VERY good loophole, and as a sucker for all things Oldhammer and Midhammer myself I can’t blame you one bit. Those nostalgia videos you’ve been doing where you paint classic gretchin and Space Wolves are some of my favorites. 😁
Hulk Hogan as Space Marines is the laugh I didn't know I needed, brother!
In unrelated news, time to crack out the yellow, red and orange paint for a new colour scheme...
When you don't buy any Warhammer for a year but your Shame Pile still grows ever larger.
Whilst you may class it as a "pile of shame" there are some absolute gems in that pile! I'd take no shame at all in having some of those sat in my hobby room................ Just gives you loads of awesome content!
---
That would've left 6 more marines, a sergeant, captain and Dreadnought that could've been painted as characters of my own but that would necessitate even MORE one-time paints...
Instead i decided to nix the idea and will just paint the entire 12 man squad in my own personal colours of grey and green. Quite convenient too as the models start off grey. :P
---
Even so; in efforts to FINALLY get in gear with this project; i've bought more paints, namely an Army Painter gun metal primer along with Citadel's Grey Seer Base and Eshin Grey Layer paints.
---
I already have the Death Guard vs Ultramarine paint set that was promoted SEVENTEEN MONTHS AGO so that can provide the accent colours needed for cloth and weapons, plus the sandy terrain paint that's included. I hope the Macragge Blue isn't too dark for the optics but i can probably mix some with the white paint included to brighten it up to a lighter hue.
---
Needless to say i'll be using your painting guide video as reference since this will be my first time painting Warhammer. The paint set should provide the required weathering paints like washes and highlights
---
Another thing is while building my Marines; i actually did 2 deviations from the instructions:
The Terminator Captain is intended to be built with an unhelmeted head but i had a spare helmet head as i'd used one of the Corvus/Beakie pattern helmets.
---
The other modification is i wanted a Marine to hold a grenade but no hand-less left arms remained. So i unhanded one of the Bolter supporting arms and glued on the grenade hand. Said Marine is rather annoyed that they've been assigned with only a grenade and Blot pistol while most others in the squad have heavier stuff, primarily their best mate who got the bazooka/cannon thing.
---
Due to time waning on; i didn't have time to apply the shoulder pads as i had RUclips stuff to watch with only 5 hours before bedtime. I can apply the shoulders once my paints start arriving.
---
My younger brother has an even WORSE backlog of assembled but unpainted Daemons Of Khorne/Chaos army plus a Knight Desecrator, but he DOES have some paints he bought so i could see if any of those will be useful to me.
Hahahahaha NOOOOO NOW I WILL ALWAYS READ SPACE MARINE DIALOGUE IN HULK HOGAN'S VOICE 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Without even looking at the video - bigger. I have no idea how much bigger, of course.
The pile only grows, never dwindles.
I'm disappointed in myself for guessing lower, but I'm proud of you for hoarding even more
My first approach on miniatures hobby was "buy how much you can buy" and I think you know the story...
Challange: How many models can you paint until your world shifts to Family Dad
Your Pile of Shame video was one of my faves and I'm delighted to see a follow up. Despite your major efforts this year I have a feeling that your net total will still be over 500....
Oh Guy!!! I am disappointed in you! There would be something so satisfying about seeing that pile being eaten away, not growing bigger! :( Daily painting videos please!!
You should do a challenge on how fast you can crack out the skeletons. See if some other channels will do a race with an equivalent box.
I thought we were calling them "piles of opportunity" now? 😄
That spells POO
Pile of Potential
Hey there. Completely new to Warhammer and slowly working my way though your video library this week learning alot! Just a quick thanks and I will hopefully be purchasing my first Mini's to get painting. Cheers for the great content!
Will you be trying the eBay Miniature Rescues, "How much can I paint with a new born?" challenge?
Out of necessity! Haha
The GW FOMO is real. I applaud your decision to avoid it and I hope more people will adopt that philosophy.
I'm doing my best to only buy what I need for my army but somehow other models follow me home anyway
So great. And the Miniac cameo is so fun.
Penny feel free to buy more sharpies.
No need to give her permission, haha
@@MidwinterMinis Are you thikin' of building a Gundam Plastic model kit/Gunpla?
Love the channel, I started the hobby just under 2 months ago. largely due to this channel making painting look so fun. I have now painted 99 minis and I am currently working on an imperial knight canis rex as my 100th model! And on the topic of audiobooks I would recommend the book brutal kunnin' by mike brooks. I didn't see the appeal of orks till this book. really funny and well written plus no use of the word "BROTHER"
SPRUES FOR THE SPRUE GOD
Still waiting for a pile of shame video where someone actually reduces the pile. :D
Great video, guy! It's always fun to watch and hear what's happening in your hobby life.
There’s no way it’s been a year already! Time flies when you’re in a national lockdown...
Next week, 2,000 minis. Or at least it'll feel like next week.
Mini painting is one of the few places and audible sponsorship makes perfect sense
I bet it will be like 300 or so, this addiction can’t be stopped
Edit: boy oh boy I didn’t saw this coming
I’d love to see the opposite of this video: I wanna see your whole collection all on one video! From your earliest mini to the most recent... that would be incredible!
Well I guessed that your pile of opportunity (never be ashamed!) would increase, as that is the inevitable natural order for all hobbyists, so it seemed like a safe bet.
It is the way of things
@@MidwinterMinis This is the way.
I feared it had gone up despite your heroic painting efforts. I was still amazed! Makes me feel better about mine!
I want to start painting again but I don't want to. You know?
lol ... insert Scott Walter (Miniac) as you say models could take forever to paint. love what you did there. brilliant
