Extremely Dirty Air Canada 777-300ER Post-Rainstorm Takeoff from Frankfurt Am Main!

- As we boarded the aircraft we started hearing rain trickling down the ceiling of the cabin and as I arrived at my seat it started pouring. The luggage handlers who were busy loading the luggage were forced to wait until the rain stopped about 30 minutes later. If you skip to 21:33 you will see a clip I recorded of the rain pouring down the window with my digital camera. What made me even luckier was that by the time we pushed back, the rain on the window had basically dried and didn't obscure the view! So please sit back and enjoy watching this dirty AC 77W pushback, taxi, takeoff and climb from a shiny Frankfurt Airport :D
DISCLAIMER
Even though the outside of the aircraft was dirty, the inside was very clean and pleasant. I had a great flight with Air Canada as always.

This is the third video from my October/November 2013 trip to Boston and New York!
Thanks for watching!
The 777 is my favourite aircraft out of all. The wings just looks amazing and I love the exterior design and how it flies!
He looks like a Gundam coming back from real combat ! Magnificent ! I will use this video for my next Gunpla projects.
Fantastic as usual! People might talk of the 747-8i vs A380, but the 777-300ER is the real King for me! AC needs to give this beast a bath!
I was in Frankfurt in May of this year touring Germany, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Czech Republic. Enjoyed all of them immensely.
Point is I love seeing video of plane Taking off and Landing. Thanks for the video.
Putting the 2 jumbos @13:00 next to each other really puts into perspective..
compare their tail for starters--that a380 is huge!!
Keeping an aircraft clean is considered routine maintenance. Buildup of dirt and grime entraps moisture leading to corrosion. Not only that but it needs to be clean for routine inspections and maintenance. In extreme cases it can change the way airflows over critical flight surfaces. People saying the interior cleanliness is the only thing that matters has it the other way around.
Thank you Kyle. Sounds like you might be an aircraft mechanic. I'd like to see that trailing edge washed, just to see if there it is a small leak, or a big one. If the trailing edge looks like this after one flight across the pond, there is a problem which needs to be addressed. Those who don't work on this side of the house, don't understand why it is necessary to keep things cleaner.
Tony
My favorite spot to sit on an airplane. Love seeing the flaps and spoilers.👍🏻
Can you count all the 747-8s in this video? Leave the answer in the comments! Hint: MANY!
Not enough for me :(
Hi I was just wondering. Do you travel around the world for a specific purpose, or do you just like flying around?
Sprichst du auch Deutsch ? in English: Can you spell German
Very little unfortunately :(
Regardless, I find something better than nothing PS: you do good Vidios I'm also a fan aircraft
Another fine video there. Can't go wrong with the characteristic two-stage startup of the GE 90-115Bs. This video also reminds me of my last trip via Frankfurt am Main airport, I saw the ANA 787-8 and an AC 77W.
Also quite likely the slowest entrance onto an active runway by a pilot!
And I counted four 747-8Is in the video-three during the takeoff roll, one during the immediate climbout (on one of the west remote stands).
I was on that same plane December 26th 2013... about 4 months ago as well. I noticed the dirty wings too.... I attributed it to all the de-iceing they where doing...that's when they had that huge ice storm back east. That was the first time I flew on a 777... it is now my favourite plane ...fast, and roomy. :) The interior was spotless....
I like the 777 the best of all of them. Yet to have a trip on an airbus, though. Seriously craving that!
Purplebluehaze Yes...dreaming of the day I get to fly,and have a shower, lol on a Airbus A380... also the Dream liner 787 would be on my list...
Randy Weaver I'm flying out on an a380 this Wednesday :D . With thunderstorms
Well, my dream has materialised! I'm flying on an airbus in Europe in October.
I'm not sure...just saw the one out my window... I would assume so.
The only time you see a clean wing is when the plane has hardly flown before. This is a perfect plane, sweet engine sound and perfect takeoff too. One of the world's safest airlines.
I just love Frankfurts traffic, so diverse. Thanks for uploading taxi + take off.
great vid. i got a total of 3 747-8i
Great video! I like the AeroLogic cargojet at around 10:30 or so!
Nice one bud! Fantastic wing view and awesome vapor just after rotation :) Well there was alot of 748's!
Amazing wingview despite how dirty it was!!! Phenomenal video mate! Have a happy 2014!!! :D
That mid-wing control surface (aileron) doing the crazy robot during the takeoff roll would've freaked me out!
as always a F A N T A S T I C video > thumbs UP!!!
Gorgeous seat, directly behind the wings and not between 2 windows, perfect for filming!
GREAT JOB! and greetings from the LH Base ;-)
Thanks my friend! I'm really glad you liked it :)
I really enjoyed the video because when I put my headphones on it sounds like real life and I also been on a Boeing 777 before in 2011. I'll do my video on my holidays in April 2014.
Stuning video as usual. I'm so addicted to this engine sound. Great job.
My Hometown-Airport ;)
Great video, loved the ANA 787-8
FRA is the best airport for spotters
I flew on a lufthansa A340-600 when I came back to toronto from frankfurt and the wings of that airplane were fucking shining ok. Spotless! Now that is worthy of thumbs up!
the sound recording is very good.. must put it on my home cinema!!
Great video!! I love the views of the Lufthansa A380, B747-400 and the 2 B747-8i's on the takeoff run. Frankfurt Main is such a nice airport. The best part is right after you break through the cloud overcast.
There was a total of 3 B747-8's. But you would have to see the registration to see if they were all different models.
Thanks bro! I think I spotted 5 747-8s in this video, but as you said, we don't know if they had different regs or not ;)
+Dantorp Aviation I got a total of 10 747-8
Its nice that you ca still hear the engine roar from behind the wing on the triple 7s!
great video , Dantorp ! I been on a plane 4 times in 2011 flying from fredericton to toronto and toronto to calgary , and way back it was fort Mac to toronto then back to fredericton , havent been on a plane since and i was so nervous and excited the first time lol , this brought back some chills , the take off ! hehe
Lovely view of wing...so graceful and elegant.
Great video man. I like all your videos
c'mon it's not that dirty for a plane!
Yeah almost every plane I have flown on has "dirty" wings
The plane is probably old that’s why
I'm so used to watching flight sim videos that I almost looked to the description to see his computer specs. I need FSX rehab... Anyways amazing video!
This was an awesome vid. Then again all of yours are :-)
That's one hell of a push back! haha
Nice video ones again. Thanks!
Woww ! b747-800, a380-800, b777-300... We are in a dream...
Amazing video, as usual!
Rainstorm brings the dirty dust that mixed with the water. i have visited Canada many times but thx God i never fly during the storm
Amazing View of wing and take off !!!! Nice !!!
12:58 Interesting conditions...I've never seen high speed ailerons moving around during a take-off roll.
Probably another one of Boeings little secrets like the MCAS. Who knows why it does that?
Not entirely sure if this is right, but I read somewhere that the flaperon is allowed to move freely up till 80 knots, I imagine that there is no hydraulic pressure through the actuator, likely to prioritise other systems. Maybe it's just the airflow under the wing that causes it to move as the plane speeds up, until the aircraft reaches 80 knots and it retains the same positions as the inboard and outboard flaps?
@@arj-pn8fk very likely
I love your videos thanks for all your wonderful posts! :)
Great Video man! Nice view ! Liked!
I'm amazed that how could it even lift an inch off the ground with all that dirt! :D
MEA A320 !! nice buddy !
Awesome video men! Liked!
The 'dirt' is Skydrol, the hydrolic fluid that leak a little bit sometime
amazing takeoff! loved the sound! :D Damn it sure rained! Good job :D
Thanks bro! I'm always appreciate your kind comments :)
Hey Dantorp, nice video! I like your take-off vids, but sometimes I think its a pity that youre sitting behind the wing at takeoff; I enjoy the engine sound a lot!
But I must say that youre at the exact right position to study tha flap motion B-)
I try to sit infront of the wing whenever I can, but you must understand that on most widebody aircraft the forward cabin consists of first and business class which is insanely expensive! Thanks for watching Stefan :)
When sitting in front of the wing generally the only noise you get is during takeoff and climb. For me, It's fun to sit there occasionally. I prefer sitting on the back half of the wing because you get better engine startup sound and you get to hear all the hydraulic noises and the flaps.
The wing is great, love looking at it on long flights!
Awesome video as usual!
Amazing Wingview! Ough! Dirty Wing xD nice Video mate!
Thanks dude!!
Great video I love planes
beautyfull take of from the K.L.M.
wel nice takeoff
great video, thanks for sharing! :)
WOW, this Wing is extrem diiiirrrrty! Thanks for sharing! Cheers from Hamburg
Beautiful take off❤❤
great.this video makes me feel that i'm in that seat and fly.
great video!!
I was on an A320 or 19 that had a hail damaged wing. Now that is quite the sight.
B777, A380 and B747 legendary!!! Only the Antonov isn´t there :D
Glad you're flying AC, and to YYZ no less.
They're a great airline!!
Dantorp11 Aviation Yes they are fantastic. I try to fly them when I can but it is a tad expensive for me. BTW, do you have the landing portion of the flight or is this what you did on this trip.
Of course I have the landing! It will be up next week :)
Dantorp11 Aviation I can't wait, you videos are excellent.
23R landing?
Excellent!
Dirty wings; wings, the thingies that keep airplanes in the air.
Excelente video!!
You sure this isn't air france? Lol, phenomenal video man, really loved it :)
Hahaha I'm not sure :S They both had French speaking FAs ;) Thanks a lot dude!
Wonderful and clear video in spite of the weatger. Love your videos.
I wonder, how you manage hiding your camera..
When i'm recording in flight movies especially take off and landings, on every flight there is usually a very late checkup by the crew during final taxiing or final approach.
Greetings from Germany and best wishes for 2014
For some reason I like it this way !!
LOL going off what the plane wing looks like and if I didn't know better, I'd guess the plane takes off and lands regularly on dirt roads and such :) Also the engine start up sounds that sound a bit ghetto and probably reverberated in your body further adds to the character the wing appearance created.
cool video
The dirt is what's keeping the plane together.
Thats amazing!
Beautiful filthy wing !
So fuckin' nice video... congrats!
Lol, I thought I was going to see an Air Canada 777 taking off in extremely dirty air.
YAY UR AT IT AGAIN! :D
Отличное видео спасибо Казахстан
Holy crap, that bird takes like 50kg of dirt with it. LOL
Hahaha yeah I know!!
Most of the dirt seen on the wing flaps in this video is there because dirt adheres to oily surfaces. There are a lot of hydraulic actuators and associated plumbing under the spoilers and speed brakes forward of the flaps. Tiny leaks of hydraulic fluid mix with lubricants on the mechanisms, dirt and tire particles, and spread over components behind, particularly the flaps. All in all a clean airplane is preferable to a dirty one, but in fact the dirt in the places seen here has negligible effect on aircraft performance. It is a different story if you are talking about the leading edges of the wings, stabilizers, engine inlets, and so forth. Any roughness or ice on those surfaces can cause added drag and undesirable changes to wing flight and stall characteristics. Airliners are workhorses and washes are expensive, but this airplane could certainly stand a good scrubbing, although it is undoubtedly perfectly safe to fly.
The 777 has a huge wing. I guess that explains the range these things have.
My mom would hop out the emergency exit and start scrubbing
Might be a bit dangerous at 37000!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The wing isn't dirty, the aircraft is coated in paint covering metal, which reacts with friction an can be eroded by rain. Even a little dirt build up could have a big impact on the drag and aerodynamics of the aircraft. It could even impact lift produced by the wings and tail section, same with ice and snow build up.
That's a cool story, bro, but the wing is still dirty. If you can't see that, you've got some problems.
+behinderteleberwurst I honestly think you have no brain!
very dirty wing indeed!!! But very nice video
Nah ! That wasn't dirt, it was volcanic ashes ! :-)
why was there a delay because of the rain ? the tires grip of the wet runway ?
Werent the flaps down for too long?
I have never flown on Air Canada. How was your experience with this airline?
This is the BEST over the Wing HD video I have seen so far. Thank You!
Does anyone know the name of that square part of wing? It seems to do all the work once flaps are up. Sorry for such a stupid question. Thanks.
The square part you are seeing is a mix of a flap and aileron, it is called a flaperon
Technically it's the main aileron - the other (outer) aileron is not used at high speed to reduce the load on the wing's structure.
I saw MAS 777! :D
Can somebody who really knows, explain to me why the middle flap is moving so much during takeoff? Haven't seen such big changes in middle flap in other videos
Actually that's a flaperon or in other words an aileron which functions as a flap as well. They are free to move anytime as compared to the flaps and in this case, it constantly moves up and down to provide the aircraft with more lift whenever required. So that's why you see it drop when the aircraft rotates and climbs to provide maximum lift alongside the flaps. This is a very innovative technology as it doesn't need to always move alongside the flap as there will be more drag induced but it can cleverly move to provide lift whenever required. Hope this answers your question.
I remember when I flew with Eva air from Manila to Taiwan, The 747-400 I was on had some surface rust underneath the flap which scared me.
I flew on this exact version as this 767 to YYC from OGG Maui
oops its a 777 lol it looks like a 767
Tyson Plett no it doesn't lmao
A long pull back ?
I like it.
I would've been really paranoid flying on that dirty plane, I mean don't these machines have to maintained to the highest level?
Are you Canadian? It's seem you fly Air Canada a lot.
i remember the first time i flew, i was fifteen and was flying in a little lear jet. i almost wet myself when we took off
I wonder if that was the ill fated Malaysia 777-200 in the background?
Nice! :)
where does the dirt coming from??
What is on the wing during take off???
Im on an i pad i cant click the screen put the landing in the description please
who cares if the plane's wings are dirty, what matters the most is that the plane is clean inside, thats it.....
Yeah the dirtiest wing I ever have seen is on an old 757. The whole flap pice had a yellow stain on it.
