Thank you for this! My daughter came to me and said she didn’t want her locs anymore and it saddened me, but I came across your video and her locs take about 20-25 minutes each and her hair is 6 inches longer than the locs! Her hair is literally almost touching her butt. She has a looser curl pattern but the shrinkage is real! And was loc’d almost 2 years. Not much hair loss and very healthy hair. I appreciate you, your method worked well for us. 🖤 I’ll remember this when I’m ready to take my own down!
I really don’t know how I’m suppose to say this but I’ve had locks in for about a year now and I show my mother your videos but she still refuses to take my dreads if they’re is anyone you could maybe let me know to go to I would appreciate I’m 15 years old and I want to prove to my family that I don’t have to cut off my hair
Aww Brendan, I am so sorry to hear that your mother isn't onboard with you combing out your locs. Did she start them for you? I remember starting my 15 year olds locs when he was 4...at the age of 9 he wanted to cut them. It was difficult for me, but I did it. Maybe she is finding it difficult to let go. But, as a mother myself with a 15 year old, I wouldn't advise that you try overriding her rules. Have you considered asking her if you can comb them out yourself? Maybe if she sees that you are able to do it, she possibly would feel inclined to help you 😊 And you can reassure her that you can always restart your loc journey

My sister in law has been wanting to "lock" my hair for a year now, but I was on the "fence" about getting it done because I thought you could not UNlock once you lock your hair. Now, I feel "somewhat" at ease. N.ow that I know that I can......... or somebody can take them down for me. Maybe I will give this a try THIS SUMMER for the VERY FIRST TIME 🤔
My boyfriends locs were not taken care of correctly and they're very large, uneven and flat. And he was ready to start over but didn't want to burden anyone with taking his hair out, and was just going to cut. His hair means alot to him and I would've hated to see that I happen, I came across this video and it has helped a ton! It takes about an hour for loc for him because of how flat and large they are so it's a multiple day process. But I'm so thankful because now he can start over with all his new growth and treat them right. You're a savior with this video!
I’ve had my dreads since 1st grade and I’m graduating high school in two days so me taking them out counts as my graduation present. The only thing is I would have to do it myself and I have around 138 dreads and the longest is 13 inches. Wish me luck! Update: I took it out my hair is longer than they were in dreads, I saved a lot of dreads and my mom didn’t talk to me for a good 3 weeks before she cane to terms with it.
Hey guys! This will be my third time doing this and the best advice I can think of, is don't lose your patience. You might even want to consider taking them out in a flattering pattern so that you can still wear it in public halfway through the process. If you lose patience then you lose all your hard work of combing them out in the first place and you'll end up wishing that you had just cut them. The first time I did it, I lost my patience and my shoulder length dreads ended up being half an inch long😭😭 it was a nightmare. So take your time and don't lose patience.
@@moonlightmya8710 you'll definitely lose a lot, but it depends on how thick your hair is and how long they have been in, and I recommend using the end of a crochet hook to take them out, it's really good at untangling them.

I found it much faster to unravel the locs with the comb side. All hair is different though. Ran out of conditioner too so we used a very thick oil similar to vitamin e oil and it worked great. Just some alternative ideas.
I never doubted this. I’m a deep south Georgia girl. Got matted when we were kids. We had to untangle with safety pens or a needle. Time consuming but it’s worth keeping hair. It is important to understand that hair sheds naturally. so some of she hair loss is hair shedding. Thank you blessings

I cut my long hair off about 4 and a half years ago to go natural. It wore it very short for a couple of years then decided to grow it out. I have arthritis in my hands and it flared up very bad I the past few weeks. I would just brush it into an afro puff only combing it through when I washed it. I found that I had a few dreads. I really needed a painless way to comb them out. THANK YOU so very much for your tutorial. I bought a pin tail comb and now they're all all gone...painlessly. Your knowledge is truly inspiring. ❤

Im 13 and got locs when i was 11, i honestly thought my hair was ruined and id have to cut it all off (my hair is almost knee length) this is my first day trying and i have around 50 locs. I was allowed to take them out for my birthday thats in a week, It takes me a bit longer because i dont have a proper comb but so far i should be done in time! Thank you for this video
Usually we just grow out our natural hair, cut the locks, sport sassy short hairstyles and keep the locks to braid them back on if we feel like it. But I enjoyed your video.
How I'm I here ? Well, 10 months into locing and I wanna comb my loca out ! Thought of chopping them off but thanks to this video, I'll be combining them out !🥰
Thank u for this video! My 14 yr old son has been locked for 4yrs and now wants his dreads out. He came to me like I knew what to do lol so I came to youtube and found your video very helpful and straight to the point! I will be trying this on his hair this weekend and will update!
I'm sure I watched this same video the last time I combed out my locs. 😂 Works very well:) Combing out another set today to restart again in October 2022 lol
I THINK I'm about to start this process with my 10 year old locs, the longest ones are about 18 inches but I've been having bad breakage from leaning on them and sleeping on them then just pulling my head up to get them free, I'll wear my loose hair for a couple weeks and retwist them for fatter locs. Thanks for the informative video!
My hair naturally curly so I was able to take some apart by hand. The ones in the back will probably need detangler and leave in. I like locs, I'm just over them. I love crochet better
Thanks for teaching me how to take out dreads bc I am making a bipoc character who is black and has dreads and I want a scene where he asks his love interest to help him with taking out his dreads so he can redue them for a special occasion bc they grew out and he hasn’t done them in a bit. He can do it himself but reaching in the back is harder to do and he rather not just blindly do them in the back of his head. I know it’s pretty cliché for me to have two lovers help each other with something but I like to think it’s a nice way for both of them to feel more comfortable around one another.i am white so sadly I didn’t know how it all works but I wanted to know so I can put it in my story the way you are supposed to do it instead of the wrong way. So thanks you helped a lot. You are doing great! Thank you for your content
I’m so excited! My hairdresser said this is impossible because the dead hair will fall off and you can’t keep the length! What are your thoughts to what she says? I want to start some and do this after a year🤗
Well, I'm pretty sure this video debunks that idea lol Mine and my son's hair have been thriving. I would honestly say that after combing out your locs you will have to ensure that you deep condition your hair to help keep your hair moisturized and healthy to prevent breakage (which should be done regardless if you have loose natural hair).
@@kieshaarielle thank you!! That’s exactly what I thought about the moisturizing! She wouldn’t even finish the video:( Thanks so much again! This video is a blessing!🙏🏾💃🏾💃🏾
@@norudesallowed2339 The hair that is falling out is dead hair that naturally leaves your scalp with or without dreads. It just doesn't have anywhere to go cause it's trapped in the loc. That doesn't mean the rest of your hair isn't growing and staying healthy.
Im Indian and I have fine indian hair. But lemme tell you. Im 12 and Idk how my hair does it but it becomes so tangled that its basicly dread locks THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! For this video because of you and this vid my hair is perfectly detangled. THANKYOUUUU SOOO MUCHHHHHHHHHH!!! Stay well and stay safe ❤❤❤❤😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁😄😄😃😃😃
I’m combing out my locs today. I have had them for 14 months and they look terrible. I got them professionally done every 4-6 weeks and they would look good for 4 days but I could not retain moisture. They are still very loose in the front and the sizing is all over the place. They are always frizzy and just look bad. I tried to be patient like everyone says but I just don’t think I have the curl pattern for it. I have S waves. It probably won’t take long to comb them out because it looks like they want to come out anyway. Oh well. I’m still glad I tried it
Thanks so much! i have mixed hair and started my journey 5 months ago but now that i know more about how my hair responses, i realize my parts are too big. This video is encouraging me to know I can safely uncomb what I have so i can restart! yay!!
I am only 11 months in and I just want to take down & restart. I think I’d like them to be a little bigger and hopefully go to someone that can make them all the same size. Not some bigger than others. Anyway, since I’m not even a year yet do you think they will be easier to take down?
Decided to use artificial hair and braided it into my real hair and it looks cool. Am surprised it does kinda help the hair grow. Hoping to eventually not need artificial hair and also have it long enough to reach my knees.
Thank you for your video. Will it help if you wash your locks beforehand with some detangling shampoo or soak them somehow? Will it maybe make the process a little faster?
I've had my locs for 9 years on new years day. But lately I have been going through some natural and spiritual things back to back and have really been considering just starting over. I know that you and your hair is one(or hair is out strength) so when your going through your trials and extreme tribulations your hair is too!!! I literally JUST watched this video and I'm SERIOUSLY considering this method. Somebody, ANYBODY, please tell me to do this!!!
Lol, DO IT!!!! But, after 9 years I am sure your locs are very long, so it will take some time. The interesting thing about this your hair and you are one, is very true...but think about it even if you were to cut your hair, that wouldn't remove that spiritual connection or negative energy you've collected; as you would literally have to pluck each hair strand from the root i.e. hair follicles and allow your scalp to generate new hair. And ultimately, you have to cleanse spiritually and physically i.e. detoxing for months to remove any blocked or trapped energy
@@kieshaarielle OMFG THIS EXPLAIN HOW NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN I JUST CAN NOT FIND MY FREAKING CONDITIONERS!!! Not one!!! I'm kinda sad now but you are MOST DEFLY correct cuz honestly I'm still having problems COMMITTING to detoxing and removing those toxic humans that I just can't seem to let go. So I honestly, truly thank you for my conformation.
I’m 5 years in and going through the same mental shift! Seriously considering combing mine out once my undercut grows out a bit more. That way my hair will be long enough to get braids.
I knew there was a away for removing dreadlocks but didn’t know exactly how. My 5yr old son had his for almost 2years and don’t want them anymore because they have grown so much and is now shoulder length, it hurt my heart when he said he just wanted to cut his hair to get them out but I’m so relieved this was an option that works
This is very helpful. I have had loc extension installed for the past six months using the wrapping method but they're far too heavy. I have been considering instant locs as a replacement thanks to comments referring me to the method on one of my videos. This lets me know I can start down that journey and I have some wiggle room to change my mind. Great video.
Thank you...yeah if you decide to do the instant loc method I also have a video on how to install it. It works on any hair type: *Instant Loc Tutorial* ruclips.net/video/Psc5fXVPyX8/видео.html
My question is if I installed some locs in my hair when I want to take them out how do i do that do I do the same thing even though it's not my real hair
I have a bunch of lint towards the back of my locs and I’ve tried everything but it’s still there. I realized it was really embedded in my loc. I’m planning to comb out the locs with serious lint and then re-loc them afterwards. Unfortunately when I started my locs I wasn’t so much aware of products I should use and not use. A lady with locs helped me start my locs and she uses a certain beeswax product. Which was the worst mistake ever. I used it for several months before realizing it was a bad idea. I don’t want to cut the back of my locs, so I hope the method of combing out will help ❤
Thank you for this!!! I'm here because my 26yr old son has decided he wants to take his dreads out ( I'm not happy about it btw lol) and comes to me with half his hair undreaded and needs me to finish the rest This looks so darn fun 😢😩😒😮💨
Ty for this I have alot of locs but I hope I'll be able to take them out quick, I want to do it without my mother's help, I want to show her I can do things on my own and she won't need to be upset👍🏿✨
Great video!!! I was just thinking of cutting my Locs because i only have 34 and the parts are too big. I wanted too start over and get more smaller ones. This will save alot of hair 4 years worth LOL.
Wow!! I am tried - locks are over 10 years OLD. Thanks. I have decided to cut off locks and stop at my new growth. Question ❓ What type of treatment should be provided to your hair after the locked hair is removed. Thanks 😊
If you cut the locs and stopped at the new growth? Then I would suggest maintaining your usual hair care routine, which should include the basics of: shampooing, conditioning, deep conditioning, nourishing the scalp and moisturizing the hair strands with the Hair We Grow hair products of course (www.hairwegrow.store) 🌱😊
The kids are always adorable and Jayden's locks or combed out Locs or so long!! You make it look so simple so can all locks be remove that way even if they were installed by a stylist?
I’m definitely thinking about it, it’s the edges for me. The lady who did mine did my edges thinner than the rest. Be loose for awhile then try again now since I have a true preference
My dreads are extremely tightly matted. Will this still work? My dreads are super dense and have been locked for 5 years. I want to try this because I can’t imagine cutting my hair!
Thank you so much my princess come to me and say mommy I don’t want locs no more I think If I of to cut it off 😭😭😭 but here I am on your video thanks again
Wow 20min one loc I better get my patience juice because im ready to take mone out loved loved the journey but im balding on top so frustrating so im hoping to save the hair I have and start growing it without the locs im retired got a wig so I have time thanks for the video
Yes, this process requires a lot of patience. This was completed over a few days. Sorry to hear that you're balding 😢 I know how frustrating and self conscious that can make one feel, as I've been there. But, you can definitely save your hair by stimulating hair growth. This process takes about a week depending on how long your dreads are. It takes patients
100% Accurate comment 😊
and a few doctors
@@Kokoro562 🤣😂😂
Took me a month for sure!!
Lol
Im 13 and got locs when i was 11, i honestly thought my hair was ruined and id have to cut it all off (my hair is almost knee length) this is my first day trying and i have around 50 locs. I was allowed to take them out for my birthday thats in a week, It takes me a bit longer because i dont have a proper comb but so far i should be done in time! Thank you for this video
Thank you my granddaughter wants hers removed and so do I .. we start tomorrow
Fantastic! So happy my video is able to help 🤗
Usually we just grow out our natural hair, cut the locks, sport sassy short hairstyles and keep the locks to braid them back on if we feel like it. But I enjoyed your video.
Very time consuming but it works, I took locks out using this process
I started yesterday(12-25-24) taking my friend locs down😩 I find this video more helpful & 2 the point
Thxs 💜
This made me so comfortable so when I do get dreads and take them out, I’d barely have to worry about the length, thanks!!
You're welcome 😊
Your passion really shines through
How I'm I here ? Well, 10 months into locing and I wanna comb my loca out ! Thought of chopping them off but thanks to this video, I'll be combining them out !🥰
Yay! 🥳
Thank u for this video! My 14 yr old son has been locked for 4yrs and now wants his dreads out. He came to me like I knew what to do lol so I came to youtube and found your video very helpful and straight to the point! I will be trying this on his hair this weekend and will update!
What happened 😭
I'm sure I watched this same video the last time I combed out my locs. 😂 Works very well:) Combing out another set today to restart again in October 2022 lol
Why are you combing out another set?
I THINK I'm about to start this process with my 10 year old locs, the longest ones are about 18 inches but I've been having bad breakage from leaning on them and sleeping on them then just pulling my head up to get them free, I'll wear my loose hair for a couple weeks and retwist them for fatter locs. Thanks for the informative video!
I can't believe this, meaning I can undo my dreads? Oh my gosh 💃💃
Lol yes you can indeed 😊
I believe you can unless you’ve been interlocking them
Why do you think if you interlocked them that it can't be undone? I have combed out interlocked locs before 😊
@@kieshaarielle that's cool, I assumed that you couldn't because the use of that crochet tool. Thanks for letting me know it can be done.
You're very welcome 😊
My hair naturally curly so I was able to take some apart by hand. The ones in the back will probably need detangler and leave in. I like locs, I'm just over them. I love crochet better
What's crochet? sounds interesting
Lol it would be nice for the character to mention he found out how to undo his dreads from watching my video hahaha #givemesomecredit 😆
I’m so excited! My hairdresser said this is impossible because the dead hair will fall off and you can’t keep the length! What are your thoughts to what she says? I want to start some and do this after a year🤗
Well, I'm pretty sure this video debunks that idea lol
Mine and my son's hair have been thriving.
Clearly she’s not a professional in her profession
Im Indian and I have fine indian hair. But lemme tell you. Im 12 and Idk how my hair does it but it becomes so tangled that its basicly dread locks THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! For this video because of you and this vid my hair is perfectly detangled. THANKYOUUUU SOOO MUCHHHHHHHHHH!!! Stay well and stay safe ❤❤❤❤😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁😄😄😃😃😃
Tysm for the heads up I’m thinking about getting rid of my locs since I miss my beautiful curls and now Ik wut to do 🙂
You're welcome 😊
I'm redoing my son hair right now. And it's working.. Thanks girl 😘😘 keep doing ya thing 👏👏💛
Considering this👀 I have so much color damage though.. so I’ve also been thinking of just letting the roots grow and no retweet
Oh well. I’m still glad I tried it
This was the first video I watched in order to learn how to unlock my son’s hair! Thank you So much! This is a literal life saver for us! 👍🏾☺️
Thank you, my journey has be only six months and I was ready for a big chop but may I’ll try this just to do a length check 💡
Thanks so much! i have mixed hair and started my journey 5 months ago but now that i know more about how my hair responses, i realize my parts are too big. This video is encouraging me to know I can safely uncomb what I have so i can restart! yay!!
You're welcome and I am so happy to know that my video was helpful 😊
I am only 11 months in and I just want to take down & restart. I think I’d like them to be a little bigger and hopefully go to someone that can make them all the same size. Not some bigger than others. Anyway, since I’m not even a year yet do you think they will be easier to take down?
It should be 🙂
Decided to use artificial hair and braided it into my real hair and it looks cool.
Am surprised it does kinda help the hair grow.
Hoping to eventually not need artificial hair and also have it long enough to reach my knees.
This is really going to test my patience , I’m so scared. I’ve had my locks for 12 years and I really need a change
Thank you for your video. Will it help if you wash your locks beforehand with some detangling shampoo or soak them somehow? Will it maybe make the process a little faster?
No it wouldn't make the process faster. Because it all depends on the time spent combing out each loc. Working on them one at a time is best
DO IT!!!!
I’m 5 years in and going through the same mental shift! Seriously considering combing mine out once my undercut grows out a bit more. That way my hair will be long enough to get braids.
My daughter has been loc’d 8 years. Been using this method (thx). Nearly an hour per loc, but she’s happy. Almost done.
Good instructions! I would also mist with diluted ACV when dealing with pockets of build-up.
I am so happy to know my video provided a source of relief for you 😊
Yuss! Been wanting to dread my hair but worried about having to cut them off.thank you!
It works on any hair type:

Yep
Who is here in 2024

I'm here in 2025
Wish me luck combing out my sons locs now. Thanks for the tips!
I needed this video! I want to start over with mine because the first time was a fail. I will go to a professional after I've taken them out!
So happy to know my video could help 😊
Going to take my 4 month old locs out because I haven't been taking care of it. Going to do research then get them again later down the line

Thank you for this!!! I'm here because my 26yr old son has decided he wants to take his dreads out ( I'm not happy about it btw lol) and comes to me with half his hair undreaded and needs me to finish the rest This looks so darn fun 😢😩😒😮💨
Lol it's a lot of fun in the opposite 😅 better find a Netflix series to binge watch
Ty for this I have alot of locs but I hope I'll be able to take them out quick, I want to do it without my mother's help, I want to show her I can do things on my own and she won't need to be upset👍🏿✨
Cool very helpful my daughter also want to end her loc journey 😕.....but the tips are very helpful... Peace 🌼💛
Thank you! I’m abt to take mines down and I was scared! You helped me!!
Thanks for this video. In the back of my head my locs are thinning so I really want to comb them out and start over
You're welcome 😊 just be more gentle with the locs which are thinning
Great video!!! I was just thinking of cutting my Locs because i only have 34 and the parts are too big. I wanted too start over and get more smaller ones. This will save alot of hair 4 years worth LOL.
Oh yes and that length will surprise you 😊
I love those locs! Look at that beautiful hair either way! Glad to know that hair loss will be normal!
Currently takin out my loc i hav 96locs im using detangler and it wrks perfect
Thank you for creating this video and thank you for you babies participation!
This video inspired me to start but it’s taking 2-4 hours per loc and mine aren’t even this long
Most definitely! You're simply unraveling or "detangling" the locked hair 😊
Thank you for this video I’m currently taking mine out and it’s been a drag! But your comb suggestion is def making it quicker 😭😁🙏🏾
Awww that's perfect!
Are they out
@@Shaquan1002 yea they are! 😁
Is your hair much thinner now? Do u regret removing them? Please advise. Thank u!
Nope it isn't and I don't regret combing out my locs
Now I can take my dreads out to see what I'd look like with waves and curls 😌
I’m definitely thinking about it, it’s the edges for me. The lady who did mine did my edges thinner than the rest. Be loose for awhile then try again now since I have a true preference
Mine are interlocked, had em for about 2 and a half years wish me luck
You got this 👍🏼
I combed out my locs just to get them restarted nd I’ll never comb them out again it took me 3-4days
My dreads are extremely tightly matted. Will this still work? My dreads are super dense and have been locked for 5 years. I want to try this because I can’t imagine cutting my hair!
Thank you for great advice. I combing my locs out❤
Thank you for this video I'm going to try to comb out my locks. I'm a little nervous about it my hair has a lot of thin areas and I have alopecia.
You will be fine. I was dealing with Alopecia when I combed mine out
@@kieshaarielle so I started with sister locs. Is this a problem see since it was interlocked?

this is amazing when summer comes im combing out my locks but since mines are skinny im scared that i might loss a lot of hair
All I can say to that is be gentle and take your time 😊
The baby at 0:38 was so adorable 😭

Thank you so much my princess come to me and say mommy I don’t want locs no more I think If I of to cut it off 😭😭😭 but here I am on your video thanks again
Ok I combed my dreads out after 5 years and not bad I didn't lose length
Wow 20min one loc I better get my patience juice because im ready to take mone out loved loved the journey but im balding on top so frustrating so im hoping to save the hair I have and start growing it without the locs im retired got a wig so I have time thanks for the video
Yes, this process requires a lot of patience. This was completed over a few days.
Sorry to hear that you're balding 😢 I know how frustrating and self conscious that can make one feel, as I've been there. But, you can definitely save your hair by stimulating hair growth. I would suggest checking out my hair oil (which is currently on sale).

Definitely doing this. Had my dreads since 2015 but I'm ready to try something new.
Me too!! Had my dreads since May 2015, thinking of starting this tomorrow. How did your process go?
@@KQY614 Pretty smooth honestly. I cut like half the dread then combed out the rest. My head felt so light after😂
