Karl cheated on her with multiple men and contracted AIDS in the process. I'll hardly call that "nothing". She only entertained Tommy after she found out about Karl and decided they were over. The agreement was to stay "together" to keep up appearance for her daughter's wedding and separate after.

Yes, their relationship is icky but at the end the young teenage boy who is a legal adult made his decision to go after an older who he had a crush on since he was a child.
It's no different with famous celebrities like Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet, or Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox or even Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra.
All of these men were little boys with a crush on an adult celebrity woman and got a chance to pursue them when they turned into legal adults.
The older woman didn't pursue them. They pursued the older woman.
Lucy is an outstanding actress. She is so underrated it's ridiculous. Her talents, her beauty, and her grace shine through. She made this character outstanding, and she looks adorable doing it :)

There relationship was very icky but it was only because he loved her so much and even tho she tried to push him away he kept coming back to her but the mother didn’t understand or want to understand her son has been wanting her since he first met her and she couldn’t have controlled that he was a little boy and once he became legal he wanted his dreams to come true so I hope he found someone he’s gonna love just as much or even more then her she wasn’t a terrible character but she also didn’t even try to tell her friend so it was a lot but I’m glad he’s gonna have fun and have some freedom

ik their r/s can come off as kinda icky but she always made it clear to tommy that carl was her husband & priority despite everything, and that she *wont* be the love of his life.
Regardless, she still constantly acknowledges tommy’s feelings (be it as a kid going through a phase or) & altho yes she could’ve handled it better, but still has never manipulated or groomed him in any manner during their affair imo…
her final lines to him is proof to me that she had no intentions of holding him hostage with their r/s, & wishes him all the best to explore the world and despite what they had might be fleeting & deemed ‘morally wrong’, it was still genuine nonetheless 😢

A mark of a strong actor is the range of types of characters they portray. Lucy Liu is always interesting and compelling to watch, as she has created a broad spectrum of characters in various genres, comedies and intense dramas, as heroes, villains, regular working people, glamorous character like this one who is funny and obnoxious and also admirable, transforming with distinct physicalities and voices showing aspects of her acting chops for an audience to believe her character and relationships. Plus she grew up in New York City, which gives a perspective on the world unlike any other place in America, graduating from one of the top competitive Science High Schools in the country. Lucy's acting is top-notch high quality,.

Nah, the mom was vicious out the gate even when her son clarified that Simone never looked his way once until he persued her at 18, and she still rejected him. I get going after a groomer and a graper, but Simone was none of those things. She was always mean and bitter, and just lit up when she had an opportunity to do her dirty work out in the open with people supporting it. I'm glad the crazy lady got her comeuppance.
The last line was intricately beautiful and graciously delivered.

This was incredibly sweet. Never thought I would say that about a relationship with such an age gap, but it turned out very human and genuine. Simone understood it wasn't appropriate, but acknowledged the connection. There was nothing predatory

I think you're supposed to. The show points out SEVERAL TIMES that this is not a healthy relationship. Lucy Liu's character also knows this, as shown here. The whole situation is messy and the people involved are flawed and make very questionable decisions, and that's why it's a compelling story.
This age gap doesn't seem so bad after watching a show called Extreme Cougars. There was a 93 year old woman having an affair with a 32 year old man. She looked about 100 to me. The thought of them having sex seems like he's committing necrophilia. There was a 53 year old woman engaged to marry her 26 year old lover. There was a 65 year old woman dating a 25 year old. They looked really in love. Life is strange.

I’ve only seen this show on shorts, but seems interesting n what I got from it is that the boys 18 his mom and the black haired woman were friends and the boy likes the friend. I don’t understand about the betrayal because you know it’s not like it was her husband. It’s her son and yes he’s young but he’s still an adult and if he wants to be with her, I mean, I guess she’s married to a man that’s ill. What I like is the black haired woman knows that the boy needs to live his life and she’s not trying to play house with him. I once liked a 19 yr old when I was 28, I knew I didn’t have a life with him, n he needed to live his own, but it was still fun while it lasted. Age is a number, as long as it’s adults and it doesn’t hold anyone’s else life back. * the 19-year-old ended up having four children he don’t take care of and in and out of jail cuz of drugs. I’m the one dodged a bullet there and I had my life together and my children to take care of. Nah if she had real moral fiber she would have said no and kept saying no. She's written to be kind and caring and seemingly selfless, while also doing this, which is simply the writer's attempt to convince us that what she did wasn't that bad, because she was such a "good person." But that's something they do throughout the whole show. Having people cheat etc while making them seem decent in every other way to make what they did seem justifiable because "well why would they, such decent people, do it if it was so bad?"
In most movies and series cheating has been glorified . Many people think it's normal and fine .
I don't believe that's the point they're trying to make. You can be a good person in certain areas of your life and still be awful at dealing with other aspects of it. Life is not black or white eventhough most of us would like to believe if it is, because doing so makes it easier to navigate it. In this particular story I do think Simone was a good person at heart but allowed herself to do something even she believed to be morally rotten, because at that moment her world was falling apart and circumstances DO make us do and say things we wouldn't normally do. Does it mean her actions were justified, no, but that's something she'll have to live with.
The consequences of her actions? Who knows... From my perspective not every awful thing we do in life is paid in full. Just go and ask every corrupt politician out there and hear them laugh hysterically on their way to their very expensive homes. Sorry if that sounds too cynical.
I think it's written like this because it what human is like. In real life people are just like this. Be bad and also be good. Most are in between.
That's what I didn't like about this show, I felt the writers had his mom go over the top and too far with her acts of revenge as a way to brush off what simone did. They wrote her as a controlling mother so they could negate the idea that her 18 year old son was too young and naive to be with a 40 year old, which is genuinely so gross.
And while I understand the concept of morally grey characters, this relationship was not portrayed as a bad or wrong move on simones part.

She did reject his advances until the friend (his mom) betrayed her trust by not telling her she knew about her husband’s affairs but never told her. That was the turning point. Definitely a relationship fueled by lust and a lot of hurt feelings.

We know she's fairly innocent in this interaction because of this. let's look at it from the mother's point of view, her son had JUST turned 18 and loved Simone enough to get a tattoo of her face on his skin. if i was a mother, i'd assume the worse too. protect your children.
