- Video games saved Z's life, and they will save yours too. They play a major role education, environmental sustainability, business operations, scientific research, and ending world hunger. At the age of 18, Zhenghua Yang (Z) was diagnosed with a severe blood disorder that caused him be hospitalized for two years.
Zhenghua Yang (Z) is an entrepreneur, speaker, researcher, and the founder of the value-driven video game development company, Serenity Forge (serenityforge.com). Having built his first computer at the age of 6 and programmed his first video game at the age of 10, Z wanted more and began exploring gamification, developing his first meaningful game in 2000. Since then, Z had created video games that saved peoples’ lives by preventing suicide, taught kids rocket science without them knowing, and inspired gamers to turn enemies into friends. Z holds many awards in business and design; his games have reached fans around the world and have been exhibited at museums such as the Smithsonian Institution.

Me too actually! When I first moved to the U.S., I didn't speak a word of English. However, all the video games were in English so I ended up learning all that English without even realizing it.

Oh man, Lifeless Planet was such a good experience for me. Also, i learned English through games. I did not have one hour of English classes in school and yet i speak pretty well english. My writing may not be on par, but most of the time, it gets the message through.

Nothing is completely good or bad. But sometimes the bad outweights the good for most people and that's how something is deemed harmful. Like Alcohol. And anything that can cause addictions really. I'm not addicted to gaming but I have a similar addiction. Novels and animes or movies . I wasted my whole life on them . I learned English . But It got too much. When I quit for 4 years in college. I managed to turn my life around and graduate with a good grade and sound foundation. Unlike what I did at school where I just show up and cram before an exam. It's true that some people's circumstances will make gaming or escapism in general the best option for them. But when you find something else you must do , and you don't bec. excapism is so much more fun and easy . Then you have a problem.

The best way to learn is by doing the things you’re trying to learn. The concept of “transfer” (that you can learn skills in one context and then apply them in another) has been scientifically disproven. I’m glad this guy had video games when he was sick, but trying to turn them into educational tools is just pandering to a society that needs everything to be entertaining.
