  • If you haven't already give Shane a sub and check out his channel. In the process of our online game of skate he has been showing a few tutorials on how to do the tricks he is sending my way as well as his own skate adventures: / @ofb_skates
    A big thanks as always to / dauiwowie for the continued use of his incredible outro music.

    Just stumbled across your videos. I'm 39 and just trying to get into skating and your videos have been a good inspiration. Thank you.

      Thanks Paul, and welcome to the amazing world of skating. I wish I had found it sooner but i'm glad I found it when I did. I think these things sometimes find us when we really need it and it has been a very welcome space to go and just be for me. I hope you find it to be the same for you.

    Killing it Ben! Haven’t been able to skate the past few weeks myself, can’t wait to get back out there. Looking forward to some warmer days come this spring!

      I hear you Neil. I tried going out to maplewood yesterday to work on the latest SKATE trick with Shane. The wind and cold made me pack it in after 25 minutes. And today... oof, forget about it. high of 18 plus wind....

    For the backside 180 slide, try doing nose pivots then get lazier - “ can’t be bothered to lift the back wheels “. Front foot can be on the bolts, or fraction forward but not necessary to be totally on the nose.

      Nice, thanks man, it’s so interesting to hear t different approaches people have to a trick. I’m happy for it too because what works for one person might not “click” for someone else. Thanks for sharing.

    Aa few people mention this, but try pivoting on your nose and raising the back wheels up to get the motion of BS reverts - like a 180 tick-tack. The good thing about that is when you make it around 180, the second half is a fakie BS pivot (like a half cab, which is easier). Good luck!

    Backside powerslide is tricky I can see frontside power slide on basically anything playground no matter how grippy they are for a while but just recently learn how to do the backside.
    For me, the trick is to (after you learn the backside 180 slide) is to push with both feet back first the front, almost in a semi jumping position.
    Don’t know if this is the right way but it worked for me. I can now backside power slide quite comfortably on a mellow hill.

      Also I learn on a very smooth indoor parking spot. Seems to help to get the first slide feeling. Skateparks and Aspalt Roads are normally bit hard to learn.
      Skateparks are mostly grippy, aspalt are bit weird they have this grip at the start then you lost it as soon as you slide, you need to gain control back with your front foot.

      @@Tejoz Good call man, yeah, I couldn't figure out what variables needed to change in order to make it happen. I'll keep messing with it on my own and try out some different surfaces.

    Dude, your videos are genuinely so inspiring! I am 33 and always thought I’d missed “my day”! After watching your videos I decided to start skateboarding at the beginning of the year as an excuse to get trim and lose some covid pounds for my wedding day. I must say, I feel those bails a lot harder than you make them look :) thinking of making some videos and sharing my journey too, any advice would be amazing!

      Thanks my man, glad what I am doing is motivating you to get out there and be in your body. Never too old to engage your mind and body. I would say find days to record as well as days to just go out and skate. Don’t think too much about the camera. Filming on a regular basis can at times become more than you signed up for so go east on yourself about how often you post. Good luck man.

      Hi! I feel you. I'm 40, I had this limiting belief. I was afraid of being judge. Because of Ben and Neal Unger, I started skating! Finally I really enjoy my skateboarding journey! Wish you the same! I want to film myself too, I think it will help me and other people to progress. Ben, which camera are you using? Keep it up dude :)

    I think the issue with your reverts could be your wheels. Some wheels just don't like to slide. Can you do frontside powerslides? If so try a few of them just to see if the wheels actually slide. I know the old saying a bad works man blames his tools, but in this case it could be your tools. I have had wheels before that I just couldn't get to slide proper even though I had done powersides and revert before using the wheels.

    • @BenJaegerThomas
      @BenJaegerThomas  3 года назад

      Good call man, I haven't done any kind of powerslides so i don't know if I can pinpoint it just yet as the wheels. Will have to experiment.

  • @quimbyquimby5436

    Not that I myself am particularly good at backside reverts or powerslides, but I think it would help if you try to pivot/slide from your front truck/foot and not the rear.

    On the topic of BLM: I might get roasted for that, but I think all lives matters, not only black, if you know what i mean.

    • @BenJaegerThomas
      @BenJaegerThomas  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Alastore, I’m not going to roast you but I think Michael Che has a really good bit on this which may make more sense than any argument I can make as to why Black Lives Matter isn’t a challenge but a request for acknowledgement.

      @@BenJaegerThomas hey, thanks for the pointer, that man is hilarious.
      But i must point out that in Russia most of us used to be "black" people. We had slavery not based on race, but by birth, serfs is what it's called, if i understand the word correctly. Then there was a communism when people worked for goverment because they had no other option. So it's a hard topic to discuss. Sorry for the off-topic =)

      @@AlastoreFrost Thanks Alastore. I can't speak to your experience and I don't mean to diminish the experience of other people of color around the world or even your own but when I am speaking about "BLack Lives Matter" I tend to think it comes from an American experience and the ingrained systemic racism that is really hard to extrapolate from our day to day lives here in this country and it's impact on every part of our society. Respect for the experiences you have had and the internal class struggles that occur in your country.
