- God promised that He would make Abraham into a great nation and give him children as numerous as the stars. But while Abraham trusted God, He did not see how this could happen. In his old age, how could he possibly bear a son? In this message, Dr. Sproul takes us back to the night God sealed His promise with Abraham and reminds us that He will never go back on His Word.
This is the 1st in a series of messages by Dr. Sproul. See other videos in the series: • Classic Collection - R...
I just love how happy he looks when he is sharing the word. God bless!
He's a free mason, you will never hear the words Jesus Christ come out of his mouth. My uncles were free masons, the most evil men you would never want to know. They talk about God, sure, but never the name of Christ. Satanist would never mention HIS name.
I really really love listening to Dr. RC Sproul and seeing how much animation He puts into his Sermons and his passion for the Scriptures is unmatched and I just go through as many as I can. Thank you Dr. Sproul for having shared your life with us all right up until your death and I know you’re in Heaven right now with your beloved Jesus Christ.
This is RC at his finest. I thank God that He has given me ears to hear this great news. God has had mercy on me and I will be forever thankful.
Pastor RC, every time I hear the Word preached from him it's like I'm hearing it for the first time again. 🙏
I wholeheartedly agree with you!!!
Amen!
I love teachers who break down bible doctrines so that even a teenager can understand. RC has been blessing me because I’ve been listening for a month straight.
Wait wait, EVEN a teenager?
One of the best Bible teachers of our time, RC has blessed me (us) so much. God bless his family, the Ministry he started and those who still watch and listen to his sermons.

He was a gift from God to His bride
I love calm teaching, slowly and straight to the point. Like the Bible.
Yep. I can get down with many styles, but I think a firm detailed sermon is the best. RC had it!
This has really blessed me,I may not have meet him personally here(on earth) but there was no one like RC as his teachings lives. Am delighted with inexpressible joy knowing that I can never lose my Salvation which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading kept in heaven for it is guarded by God's power. (1Peter1:4-6)
ty as THE DEVIL WANTS TO MAKE ANY SOUL FEEL GOD TOSSED THEM AWAY AND THEY ARE NOT SAVED NOR CAN BE AGAIN,,THE DEVIL HITS FAITH, HOPE, AND WANTS OUR FAITH,,HE USES HUMANS,, TO DO THIS AND THE SAVIOR SAVES,,,,,,,WE TRUST HIM, KEEP TRYING,, TO GET BACK UP AND HE IS THE ONE(S) WHO SAVES,, AMEN,,
Praise God our salvation depends upon a loving God who who gives us his grace. I am thankful it doesn't depend upon our works.
Yes, once I found out that my salvation cannot be lost (as I’ve been told before, which almost led me to hopelessness) I felt awash with joy!

Salvation guaranteed? Who does that, RC?
St. Paul said in 1 Cor 9:27, "I chastise my body and bring it into subjection, lest perhaps, after I have preached to others, I myself should become a reprobate." St. Paul, an Apostle, was concerned about the possibility of losing his salvation. Why St. Paul did that if salvation were guaranteed.
Roman 6:16-17 states. "You are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin, which leads you to death, or of obedience to teaching, which leads you to righteousness." And 1 John 3:8-9 states, "Whoever sins belongs to the Devil. No one, who is begotten by God, commits sin." Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, please examine yourselves sincerely and determine which category you belong to.
Many of you believe some verses in the Bible, think they know and follow Christ, and are saved; and find themselves to be in the first one. Why? Because they do not truly know Christ, nor the True Faith, and are separated from the Source of Grace like branches separated from the Vine (John 15:6), which is the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church He founded and sent for salvation of souls until the end of time (Matt 28:20, Mark 16:16). Why follow false teachers and risk your eternal salvation?
Thank you Lord for working through RC like you did!

This preaching is such a blessing !
I purchased the book entitled FAITH ALONE by Dr. Sproul in September 2006 in Delhi, lndia. Ever since that time, he became my fan. I have been learning till today his teachings on reformed theology. @@hyeminkwun9523Are Catholic beliefs and practices biblical?
The question that concerns every church and its practices should be, "Is this biblical?" If a teaching is biblical (taken in context), it should be accepted. If it is not, it should be rejected. God is more interested in whether a church does His will and obeys His Word than whether it can trace its lineage back to Jesus' apostles. Jesus was very concerned about the Word of God being rejected to follow traditions of men (Mark 7:7). Traditions are not inherently wrong...there are some good and valuable traditions. To reiterate, the concern should be whether a doctrine, practice or tradition is biblical. How then does the Catholic Church compare to the Word of God?
Salvation: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that salvation is regenerated through baptism and maintained through the Catholic sacraments, except through a willful act of sin that destroys the sanctified state of grace. The Bible teaches that we are saved by grace, which we receive through simple faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that good works are the result of a changed heart worked out in salvation (Ephesians 2:10; I Corinthians 5:17) and through the fruit of new life in Christ (John 15).
Assurance of salvation: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that
Assurance of salvation: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that salvation is not guaranteed or certain. 1 John 5:13 says that the reason for writing 1 John was so that believers could be ASSURED of their salvation.
Good works: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that Christians are saved by meritorious works (beginning with baptism), and that salvation is maintained by good works (receiving the sacraments, confessing sins to a priest, etc.). The Bible teaches that Christians are saved by grace through faith, completely apart from works (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 3:10-11; Romans 3:19-24).
Baptism: In the New Testament, baptism ALWAYS comes AFTER saving faith in Christ. Baptism is not the reason for salvation; it is faith in the gospel that saves (1 Corinthians 1:14-18; Romans 10:13-17). The Roman Catholic Church teaches the regeneration of infants through baptism, a practice never found in Scripture. The only possible reference to the baptism of infants that the Roman Catholic Church can point to is that the entire household of the jailer in Philippi was baptized, as recorded in Acts 16:33. However, the context never mentions infants. Acts 16:31 explains that salvation comes by faith. Paul addressed the whole household in verse 31, and the whole household believed (verse 34). This passage only supports the baptism of those who have already believed, not that of infants.
Prayer: The Roman Catholic Church teaches Catholics not only to pray to God, but also to petition Mary and the saints for their prayers. Contrary to this, Scripture teaches us to pray to God alone (Matthew 6:9; Luke 18:1-7).
Priesthood: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that there is a difference between priests and "commoners," where the New Testament teaches that all believers hold the priesthood (1 Peter 2:9).
Sacraments: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that a believer is filled with grace by receiving the sacraments. This teaching is nowhere to be found in Scripture.
Confession: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that, unless the believer is incapacitated, the only way to be forgiven of sins is through confession to a priest. In contrast, Scripture teaches that confession of sins is made to God alone (1 John 1:9).
Mary: The Roman Catholic Church teaches, among other things, that Mary is the Queen of Heaven, everlasting Virgin and with redeemer who ascended to heaven. In the Holy Scriptures she is portrayed as an obedient, faithful servant of God who became the mother of Jesus. None of the other attributes mentioned by the Roman Catholic Church have their basis in the Bible. The view that Mary was the co-redemptrix and is another mediator between God and man is not only extra-biblical (found only outside of Scripture), but is also unbiblical (contrary to Scripture). Acts 4:12 declares that Jesus is the only Savior. 1 Timothy 2:5 proclaims that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man.
Many other examples could be listed here. These points alone clearly identify the Catholic Church as unbiblical. Every Christian denomination has traditions and practices that are not explicitly based on the Bible. This is the reason why Scripture must be the standard for Christian belief and practice. The Word of God is always true and trustworthy. The same cannot be said about church traditions. Our guideline should be: "What does the Bible say?" (Romans 4:3; Galatians 4:30; Acts 17:10). 2 Timothy 3:16-17 proclaims, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly prepared for every good work.

Excellent and well-organized message. I have never thought of Genesis 15:17 in that light. And his interpretation is backed up by Jer. 34:18 and Heb. 6.
Interesting that you should mention that verse in relation to this sermon. Just this morning (one year after your comment) I was struck by Jeremiah 33:5 which had the name Babylonians there but the footnote said *_or Chaldeans!!!_* and I immediately thought of Abraham! Here was the long forgotten relations attacking their own kin! Then as I went further, I encountered that dramatic betrayal by the Israelites who reneged on their cutting covenant and God promised to destroy all those who did so!!!!
Then 6 hours later, I was led to listen to *_THIS_* sermon out of all the other ones that I had on my recommended list....!!!!

I only got to enjoy the man's ministry after he passed.. I seems strange to think of people as passed. They are not.
The Holy Spirit has put deeply in my heart to translate them all into my native language, brazilian Portuguese. I was just wondering if someone had already done it. If not, I'be most honoured by doing so.
*Wondering*
How’s the translating going?
@@Mason_O I didn't start doing it because I have not heard any reply from Ligoniers Ministry so far.
I have finally entered God's rest and it all started years ago with learning that the doctrine of eternal torture was based on incorrect translations of the word aion, which is translated age in one verse and forever in in another. Read Louis Abbott's book An Analytical Study of Words to learn more and start your journey to God.
There is also aionios.
2Co 4:18 (KJV) - While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal(proskairos); but the things which are not seen are eternal(aionios)
And yet ?
Here, eternal is juxtaposed with timeless.
Matthew 25:41 KJV - Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Matthew 25:46 KJV - And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Salvation only comes from practicing unconditional love as Jesus taught. That's it. There are no magic phrases to say. It really requires a change in life. There are no short-cuts.
Young G Washington seems said it after God's alone Truth, Way & Life was personified once & for all even as Moses to Israelites, Paul to Jews reminded of the Promise thus Risen not again flesh or blood preyed on...
If a once-saved Christian abandons the faith and returns to his vomit thus forfeiting the prize of salvation, it is NOT God who has broken his promise.
Someone who is truly saved cannot abandon the faith. This is because our salvation is made secure by God, not by our fallible efforts.
terminat1 - 1 Tim 4:1 - Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.
Doesn’t get much more plain than that......
"Faith" doesn't have to mean saving faith.
Bob,
I have a dear Methodist friend (also a pastor) who expresses the same sentiment, but in the end, faith that is salvific is of a sole location or "locus of control"... it is either in God or oneself. Arminian theology is in self-wrought faith... and thus lies the distinction. Faith is either mustered, and therefore contributed, by the individual, or it is gifted & granted by God. The Bible definitively states the latter two. The former are illustrative of the faith can be made "shipwreck of".
In the spirit of charity, Arminian theology is essential spiritual discipline... and thereby called for to "make one's calling and election sure"... but God is the Author and Finisher, and He works in US that which is pleasing in His sight.
For this, we can only have the awe of gratitude.
Soli Deo Gloria
...and God bless you
Once born again you can't be 'unborn'.
salvation may be guaranteed, but the real question is....what is our response, to be....and is it a one time or a continuous action....
The 1960 edition of the NWT , John 1 is translated correctly, it translates the Word was God .
King James Version is also great.
@@FollowerOfTheLight2782 yes KJV translates John 1:1 correctly
Our LORD tells us in Matthew 5: 33 to 37, not to swear on anything but to let our yes mean yes and no mean no. Therefore swearing on the Bible in court, is against Gods word.
ASV Matthew 5 : 33 “Again you have heard that it was said to those who lived long ago: Don’t make a false solemn pledge, but you should follow through on what you have pledged to the Lord.[d] 34 But I say to you that you must not pledge at all. You must not pledge by heaven, because it’s God’s throne. 35 You must not pledge by the earth, because it’s God’s footstool. You must not pledge by Jerusalem, because it’s the city of the great king. 36 And you must not pledge by your head, because you can’t turn one hair white or black. 37 Let your yes mean yes, and your no mean no. Anything more than this comes from the evil one.

Those who want to criticize this great teacher should earn it at least first by writing a book on anything. Even Potatoes. 😗
R.C Sproul would be LONG REMEMBERED AFTER WE ARE ALL GONE & FORGOTTEN.
THAT'S WHAT YOU CALL GREAT INFLUENCE. Critics (unqualified) always remind me of the 8 spies who were sent to spy the land. They had a DIFFERENT SPIRIT to Joshua & Caleb. Oh. By the way can ANYONE REMEMBER ANY ONE OF THEIR NAMES.
NO NONE OF US DO.
WONDER WHY? 😇😇
Nobody remembers the Critics.
Critics are those who never go to war but shoot the wounded soldiers who have gone to fight for the rest of the people.
BTW I'm ALL FOR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
BUT QUALITY YOURSELF FIRST.
To the humble guy who thinks R.C is proud, that's because HE CAN AFFORD TO BE. Those who call other proud are struggling with greater pride themselves but are unaware because of their IGNORANCE.
A truely humble person WOULD NEVER CALL ANOTHER PROUD. AS THAT'S A SIGN OF GREAT PRIDE ITSELF. 🤭
TRY doing one percent of what R.C
Had done & you would feel that way too. IT'S CALLED PASSION & CONFIDENCE.
The great Apostle Man Paul suffered with a bit of it. We all do. 🙏

What happened to Genesis 15: 17 LOL I pay attention I don't think you're lying I just think that some of your favorites change after a while.... okay I didn't let you finish. I love you
Hell is also Guaranteed
Hell is guaranteed only if you have rejected our Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and rejected the provision YHVH made for the removal of our sins through faith in His precious atoning blood shed on the cross for our sins. For those who know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, Hell is not a concern because the sword of God’s wrath is at peace with us.
