Thank you Nelson. I just received my Skydio 2. After reading all of the online info/instructions I anticipated an easy set-up. I was not disappointed. The Skydio online presence is as good as I have ever encountered. Ever. With clarity, precision and human intuitiveness you made the product come alive online. What I flew today was not a drone. It is a magic carpet with a world class camera system. All things considered, Skydio 2 goes beyond the hype, that is, technologically. As far as the customer support during the purchase process: not so good. If it were not for a senior agent named Connie, I still would not have the drone that I ordered almost a year ago. The extended wait was discouraging. I am not referring to COVID shut down. After re-opening and after I made payment, somehow I was kicked-out of the cue. This was the result of either: technological glitch (ouch!), human error or human intent. The drone market needs Skydio. The United States needs Skydio, The world need Skydio. My rating of Skydio 2: Spectacular My rating of customer support: Somewhere above “Dell back in the 90’s” and well below the DMV. My rating of Nelson and Connie (future Skydio Senior VP): Off the freaking charts. Thank you for this remarkable piece transformational technology.
Hi Nelson, I have watched several of your videos and was very much impressed. I just received my drone a week before Thanksgiving, but have not flown it yet. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to. This latest video was very informative and I hope to try your recommended settings. Mahalo!

Or perhaps more to the point of my question, how well does the sensor deal with specular highlights in the forest? Are you typically shooting under cloud cover or early/late in the day?
I will try your drone movement settings today. But i shoot at the lowest framerate 24fps in very low light conditions like your river video. I dont have filters yet.This way i can bring down the shutter speed and allow more light into the sensor. I would use the 60fps only if had enough light. Try it and see how much details you can recover in the shadows. I will film in a very dark mangrove environment today. Hope all goes well. Keep up the good work Nelson

The reason I ask this is I know there are going to be situations where I'll want the 4K video, but can't actually fly the drone in that particular setting.
Between using the phone, beacon, and remote, it could be a little overwhelming for beginners. This helps a lot to put me in the right direction. Thanks I see your compensation was set at -2 EV. Do you usually adjust this just depending on your current filming situation? Thank you.
You are right. I do adjust depending on the scenario. What I found though is, it’s easier for me to adjust and recover the shadows more than the highlights that’s why I prefer to underexpose my shots.

I have a question, Once you go into adjusting your settings for pitch, yaw and so on, will those settings remain saved for future flights, or do I have to go in and re-adjust settings again ? Also do these settings effect how the drone operates when using the Beacon ?
Thanks!!! The settings will stay except after a firmware update. And unfortunately the beacon is independent and only acts according to its program. There are certain skills though where you can make certain changes such as speed and height.

Yo, I extremely appreciate the video detailing your settings. I have to say though, these settings COMPLETELY blew out my footage and I'm so beyond overexposed I can save about half of it in post. So... take all of this with a grain of salt if you're new the Skydio 2 and also pay attention to your outdoor settings and ND filter you're using. Nelson, do you have a video detailing when to use particular ND filters so these settings don't blast my footage again? Thanks.
For the most part I use the ND 16. With it I use my phone to check proper exposure. If I have to adjust it I use the shutter speed and fps to do it. If I want it brighter then I’ll be shooting at 24fps@1/48, go darker at 30fps@1/60 and most of the time I shoot at 60fps@1/120 shutter speed.

Yes you could but the beacon takes precedence over the controller and then the controller becomes very sluggish barely responding to any input. So I wouldn’t suggest it unless you absolutely have to.
Are the controller joy sticks sensitive to touch and speed control? Ie I slowly pushing the joystick forward or back back to determine speed pitch, yaw etc? Thank you happy New Year

Thanks!! Yeah I use my zoom h1 recorder for the ambient sounds and then just combine them during post. I use premiere pro to edit.

with HDR video you don't have a full manual control of your exposure.

Why didn't you shoot in HDR with D-Log? It seems you could get more cinematic look after some simple color correction in Resolve.
Skydio doesn’t have d-log unfortunately. Also when shooting HDR you can’t manually set your exposure.

when in follow mode what happens when it looses signal from the controller or the beacon
When it looses visual tracking it will switch to gps but when both fails then it will just hover in place.

We’re you using ND filter? Depending on the light of your environment ND filter is necessary. Without it you will surely have an overexposed image.
