  • This video shows the cinematic capabilities of the Skydio 2 using the Cable Mode and Hover Mode with the controller. Skydio 2 is not just an "action camera with wings." Properly used, its superior 4k camera can capture fantastic cinematic video content. This video was capture during a three day tour in and near the Columbia Gorge on the Oregon-Washington border.

    Very impressive, beautiful footage! Your eye for framing shots is exceptional. I agree with you that Skydio needs a more precise controller and ocusync type signal control. Although I love my Skydio2, I feel like I'm flying a drunk, weaving bird with the controller. I would also like the Skydio to be able to hover in ONE place without bobbing and weaving. Although it's great at tracking, it just can't hold still! These improvements with a flat color profile are requirements if DJI is to ever be dethroned.

      Since doing this video, I have added a Skydio 2+ to my "fleet." The 2+ has better signal control. However, it is not as good as the very precise control I had with my Autel EVO 1. On the other hand, the Autel aircraft on a RTH maneuver owing to its rudimentary obstacle avoidance. I got to the point where the bobbing/weaving seemed to be preferred over crashing and burning. Plus, Skydio's new "keyframe" feature permits some awesome setups. See, for example: ruclips.net/video/apmCp-iaeEs/видео.html
      Be well.

    This is beautiful Ed. I think it's one of your best. You kept a steady hand and on my 4k monitor it looks clear and sharp. Nice job!

      The "steady hand" is mostly the product of using the Skydio 2 "cable mode." Set up the flight path and then let the Skydio 2 do the camera pan work.

    Nice video Ed. I'm considering the new skydio 2+. I do both video and stills with my current drones and specialize in waterfall photography, I'm curious how much photo camera control you have, ie: aperture, shutter speed and exposure time. Thanks!

      Sorry for this delayed response ... catching up. ... The still photo mode is full auto 😕 However, the Skydio output from the camera system has awesome color tech and fair dynamic range for typical teeny sensor found on "consumer level" drones. Also, the Skydio system permits producing DNG files (12 mp). I use Adobe RAW "Enhance" to render 48 mp TIFF files and get a pretty good result. See an example posted on my photo website at the following link:

      Good to learn IT is doing well! We still get our dental work done in Oly - so get back about every six months. Salem is quieter than Oly, but the sidewalks roll up at about 4 in the afternoon.

    Very nice! I've got a Skydio 2 and am learning to use it. I got it mainly for it's tracking ability but have been enjoying flying manually with the controller.
    - What camera settings do you use?
    - What are your gimble, yaw, & roll percentages?
    - Have you had any trouble with losing signal and disconnecting from flying too far away?
    Thx

      With occasional exceptions for still photos, I use the auto settings. I am busy piloting and care not to try to also be adjusting camera settings.
      Gimble is set at 35%
      Roll is set at 50%
      Pitch is set at 25%
      Yaw is set at 50%
      While the Skydio2 has some stunning automatic abilities and the camera produces excellent content, its range truly sucks. The controller to device signal is basically wifi with poor range and is easily degraded by even the slightest obstructions. This is a commercial grade device with a toy-based "control." 😕

      @@edruttledge342 I heard in another video, you need to turn off the wifi on your phone. That makes the signal better.

    • @edruttledge342
      @edruttledge342  2 года назад +1

      @@JJSleo-bw9fr Yes - Actually that is recommended by Skydio to avoid "confusing" wifi signals from the controller and directly from the phone. This is good practice - nevertheless, using a wifi signal for control on an otherwise very sophisticated system is a foolish lapse by Skydio ... as in ... WTF were they thinking? 🙄

    Can you fly it like this with just your phone and no controller?

    • @edruttledge342
      @edruttledge342  2 года назад +1

      Sorry for the delayed reply ... catching up ... I think this is possible. But, I never fly with the phone wifi as it does not provide reliable link ... and I am responsible to maintain control of the aircraft.
