Honestly amazing perseverance. You make it look easy for from this side of the screen lol. So vibey and gorgeous despite the crazy weather! 🌬 You earned those blue skies!

As another stubborn person who doesn't like 'bothering' people I can totally relate. I tend to prefer to take the 'you got yourself into this, you need to sort it out' approach. Not that it always works out 😂 That paella looked amazing!

AZ, we live in a parallel universe. First week of March I ran into hellacious winds in southern NM. Had a campsite reserved at Pancho Villa State Park. Got there, the kind camp lady-host suggested that I move over to another site that had a stone wall that would shield me. I head north to I-10, checked the weather which had been a great ten day forecast only to learn it all crashed. Headed back to El Paso on I 10, speed limit 80, I barely did 30 fighting the winds, rode through a dust storm and Thunder snow in my retreat. Had a great tail wind back to IN though!! Your comments at 14:00 are spot on. Just keep going. NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER GIVE UP. Appreciate your posts, always. Travel to breakfast? as long as I have coffee, the bike doesn't need to be turned on....
I had flashbacks watching this! I camped on my first big solo trip a few years back on the Columbia Scenic byway, on the river on that wind was the worst I've ever camped in and putting up my tent alone was hysterical (to others). My video was off the charts funny when I watched it at home. The struggle there is REAL. Loved the video.
Ha Ha Ha. Great adventure... Try to keep your chin up... Yes even if what challenge you might face. Except the challenges and learn from them. It will always help you in the future... You'll probably learn how to read the weather in time. Sometimes you'll have to slow down or speed up to avoid adverse weather. There's lots to learn. Common sense helps in a big way. But even then one can get cought with your paints down. ( Just a figure of speech ) LoL. Thanks for your video. I do enjoy watching them... Keep doing what your doing.... Be safe out there. Billy.
End Screen crew Going on a REALLY long to me ( 7000km ) and got lost. Was ready to turn around after getting lost and going in circles for over an hour in the same town. Called my bf and told him I am not cut out for this. He told me to get back on the bike and go. (he was watching my on the spot tracker). When I finally got on the right path again there was 2 messages on my phone. The first one was get off there (referring to highway). The second one was "atta girl". To this day when things go rough I remember that message and keep going. Thank you Amanda I learn so much from you
Yeah, the Gorge is a trip - I live in So OR but right thru there - I particularly like riding thru the farm land back roads east of there - less wind and very lovely - nice people as well in those towns - pretty much everywhere we go really - I'm sure you find the same every where you go! Riding in the rain is wonderful right up until you get wet and cold, fatigue setting quickly - been there! You really have a particularly marvelous way of presenting your travels - nicely done! Much thanks for all you do!
And here I was whining about working outside a little bit in the cold today. Mothers are always the wisest and really nice how they came and checked on you. You’re pretty amazing Amanda, thanks for sharing
It never hurts to ask!! I've come to the realization that most reasonable people will understand if you explain yourself sufficiently. I'm usually pretty apologetic, but there is always the barrier of looking like an idiot....but sometimes looking like an idiot is well worth it! Another awesome video!
That camp kitchen is goalllls! And, I always call my mom for wisdom too. 🤣🙌 ...and Brady from GFDD once said I would ride 500 miles for breakfast when describing me so... we will go with that. Haha
I have so much admiration for your tenacity. And am so convinced that, while it’s great for you, that I really don’t want to camp. Clean white linens and room service would help assuage my cold ride.
Great vlog as always Amanda. I'm glad your clothes dried out fairly quickly, damp/wet clothes are the absolute worst. 😒 End screen: As a natural loner I don't tend to call anyone. It's not that I can't or that I won't, it just never occurs to me to do so. And I will happily ride 25-30 miles for breakfast; because it means I'm riding! 😁
I have my bike packed up for camping and now waiting for the wind to die down. Wind all night in a tent is no fun. At least it is dry and warm here though. Loved watching your windy adventure and the inspirational pep talk is what I needed to hear. Loved it... thank you!
Way to push through the challenges. Appreciate your parents while they're there. I often wish I could ask mine so many things in life. 👍😎 PS: If you're on the chat later I hope the host doesn't abandon the party this week. Lol :)
Good that all turned out well. Wisdom is gained not just through age but by making “less than optimal “ choices. I have had a few camping trips that I questioned whether it was the best thing to be doing at the time. But looking back there are some great memories because usually I had company helping me make bad decisions! Stay safe.
End screen question. Now that my parents are gone, my go to is my oldest sister. I don't always like or fully agree with what she says, but she is a good sounding board. As much as I enjoyed this, I think I would be awful lonely doing this on my own. On my own, I would want hotel amenities to soothe me. I do admire that you toughed it out and gave a firm middle finger and did it. Glad you had a dry ride back.
Nothing worse than being cold and wet on a motorcycle trip , but you turned a negative into a positive so that's good and your making memories , that looks like the weather we get here in the uk🤔 , thanks for sharing your adventures take care and ride safe 👍
Wow..you got some tuff skin on you. I too have been out in the Columbia Gorge..wind in a tent was wild. People were loosing their tents. I appreciate your calmness over all the rain & wind. Happy Trails & safe riding 😎 GooseHD Lady ✌ Central Cali😉 Thank you for sharing a
I love this so much! As a fellow stubborn person who also wouldn't want to bother the campground host, especially twice, I can totally relate! (Fully knowing that if I was the campground host, it wouldn't bother me a bit!) I'm not great at calling for advice - when I busted my lip in canada, I texted because I hate to bother people, then drove myself to the ER. 🤷♀️ I love good hot breakfast, and will ride though 20-30 miles of trails to a small town not to miss a good breakfast! We did that a couple years ago near Sumpter - some of the most fun trails on the trip, and AMAZING food!
💖 lol I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only "I don't want to bother them" person XD I'm trying harder to ask and I'm def a LOT better than I was back in 2016 haha but I've got room to get better. haha man I gotta get my butt to Sumpter for breakfast :P
It all feels so familiar. Camp set up, the stove comes out, aaaaaaand .... right about when I would heat water to add to some pre-packaged (but nonetheless tasty) food, Amanda busts out REAL food and commences to create "Veggie Paella" (in this case)!!!! I guess I still treat food more as an afterthought on a ride. But I DO hope to be able to relate someday! :)
"Sometimes what seems like a bad experience at the time, often leaves the best stories to tell later", a famous quote by by a cranky old life-time rider (ok, it was me, LOL 😜). You had a great ADVenture, my friend, and I enjoyed the heck out of watching the video about it! Great video, happy weekend! 😊✌ End screen: Someone wiser than myself, and it depends on how hungry I am vs where I wake up 🤔😜😁
best experiences and lessons are learned when you face the uncomfortable :D They are also the most memorable! Kudos to your epic adventure. no matter what weather. That veggie paella looks delicious!
Stellar as always! Doing things outside your comfort zone is how you get better. That's how we all improve. Who do I call when I need encouragement? That would be my wife. She would tell me if I was doing something stupid! I also refer to other pearls of wisdom that I picked up in life. If you look at something that's causing you a problem, think of how minuscule the amount if time is out of your whole life. You can't go back and undo experience, just learn from it.
Nice VLOG! Absolutely iconic shot at 9:35 of you, your bike, the campsite and dinner - having successfully managed a difficult day, and things looking more comfortable :0)
Wow you definitely win points on this one. Way to embrace the suck. I am not sure my embrace would have defeated this particular suck. This comment in itself will pretty much answer the end screen crew question. There is no one for me to call for advice, so I don't. I just evaluate my situation and decide what I am going to do. At nearly 57 and partially disabled I may have decided to go the motel route on this one. Thanks Amanda for being so completely awesome and for sticking this out. I would not have been disappointed had you decided to motel it, but I will admit this was much more entertaining and educational. See you in August, rain, shine or even wet clothes!! RMR FTW!
Our dear sweet beautiful adventure hero was once again defeated by the sun and to eat dinner in the dark. I hope you enjoyed the ride back the scenery looked beautiful. Thanks for video and I call my aunt
I don't call anyone, figure it out on my own. Longest breakfast ride.... 60 miles, but most often it is about 10 feet as I cook my own before heading out. 😎
You choose your times and accept the weather.... Good or Bad. I felt for you in the wind and cold, but it all turned out good. You are truly a Moto-pioneer. I drive as far as it takes for breakfast.
Thanks for sharing that. The most adverse conditions often make the best memories - I remember the frozen nights more so than the times with perfect weather over the years, and the fires we built to keep warm - the best memories.
That looked pretty grim :D although in your tent it looked pretty snuggly. I don't do breakfast, but I once did a 650 mile round trip for lunch in a cafe by a beach I love.
Unfortunately, my mentor who would accept a collect call from me anywhere on the continent (that dates me lol) has passed away. I think he still guides me in difficult situations. Been up thru the Gorge once, in 2008, Portland to Ritzville that day on my long way back home. Surviving the worst days gives one stories. This is a great example for beginners to not pack it in with a little adversity. I can laugh now at the cold, wet rides and the freezing nights. One appreciates how good even a bad coffee (or tea) tastes at the end of such rides.
One of the rides that remains most vividly in my mind was is in heavy rain for eight hours from Murchison, Greymouth, Karamea and back down to Westport (Google maps New Zealand) except for my gloves remained mainly dry. It was a great ride.
Been through some of the worst winds I can remember riding through Oregon. Somewhere around The Dalles, I think. Mom, both answers, always Mom. She says so.
don't you love those HIppo Hands?? I have Raynaud's in my right hand...I love them. I was driving in this storm in m y Subaru, and stayed in a hotel. You are amazing to me!
Hooray! I had early access! 🙌🏻. Thank you for sharing the good parts and the struggles. I let’s people know that struggles like this don’t determine the ending, but pushing through struggles and finding solutions will make it well worth it. End-screen crew answer - I call Dad. 😁
LOVE that you didn’t allow the rain to dictate your plans. Maaaaybe I’m on team “irrational” lol That veggie paella looked bomb! If it were me, I’d be eating a PB & J sammich 😂 Hi Mama Zito! I typically call on my boyfriend, Freddie for wisdom. He has a way of pointing me in the right direction. And I think I’d be willing to ride a stupid long distance if the breakfast spot is great enough! lol Awesome video, Amanda!
This video made me turn on the heater under my desk and now I'm going to make tea. I have no one to call who will actually provide wisdom and not just echo my own doubts. I have to have some kind of breakfast or my blood sugar will crash. However, I'm always up for "second breakfast" at a nice place where the waitress calls me "honey".
Great video Amanda. I like your perseverance and the message of not giving up. I don't call anyone I would have just ridden home for breakfast! Do you keep all your bike gear inside your tent when wet?
I actually kinda like riding in the rain - with the proper gear, and not hours upon hours of it. And not windy too. But I also know how hard it is to start out on a ride knowing that it is going to be raining. Choosing the chance of being wet and cold versus the guarantee of being warm and cozy sounds like a choice that has a default answer. But what we are looking for is the experience. Stay safe, and don't hesitate to be a minor bother to someone when it means a significant difference in your comfort and safety. I've been there (in that type of circumstance) multiple times, and made the same decisions you did. Taking myself out of the equation, it's easier to see the better option. End Q: My ex. She knows me better than anyone else. Optional end Q: I haven't been riding for breakfast. I like to eat shortly after waking. But now I'm thinking I'm missing opportunities to ride, and experience different things. I've just today been able to schedule my c-19 vaccines, so hopefully dining out and meeting people will become easier soon. I went on a three hour round trip ride in the cold and wind yesterday. I tried to stop for lunch in the middle, but their dining room was closed. They had take out, but I didn't want to eat in the wind, so I ate when I got back home.
I call my buddy Mike or my wife :-) she is amazing. I have to at least have a snack and a bit of coffee before riding too far or I am pretty cranky (-: I’m super glad you switched camp sites. peace
Despite the weather it looked like a great location. I don’t call anyone for wisdom, I’m a stubborn know-it-all hahah. I once rode an hour for breakfast, it was the first place I found open! I see you have a lane sharing bill just gone through committee in Oregon. I hope it goes through, it is a sheer luxury to have when the traffic comes to a stop for whatever reason.
End screen. I like to get a good 60 or 80 miles in before eating. Kind of depends on how far the day is planned, but that seems to be the way mine works out.
hey hello there ! I just subscribed to your channel yesterday and i watched early videos ( as you do ) Was amazing to see you in proper gear and on this lovely bike.. just yesterday you were dropping an old suzuki in the mountain and sleeping in a garage :D I guess i will hava a lot of nice to see when i catch up on your videos.. Also if i call my mom she would probably tell me to go back home , sell the bike and never jump on one ever ..so no.. I dont call anyone :D
Depends on the situation, who my best resorce will be who might have experience in the situation I am in. If Hubby is not with me, him first, then Dad or Mom depending on if it deals with motorcycles or kids!
Hi Amanda! Every time you talk about your Rumpl blanket I get thrown off. My dog's name is Rumple! haha I call nobody for wisdom. Not sure why I don't cause I'm not very smart about motorcycles, camping, and especially how far to ride for breakfast! Oregon route 5 series - Rode like 40 miles offroad, got a little lost, rode down a very very steep hill to get to Sumpter for...let's call it brunch! haha
The odd time I will call my dad....but now my kids call me for advice. ;). I’ve been known to ride a few hours to grab breakfast...part of the culture for Honda ST 1100 owners. ;)
Really love your video style. You've mentioned that you did not go to school for film, and a number of other creators who have influenced you. I just wanna say "Amanda Zito understood the assignment"!!. Maybe they should watch your videos.
All of my Parents have passed on so I call my kids for advice. I have two sons that are married there wives are pretty sharp and helpful also and the three grand kids like to put in there two bits worth as well. They all help keep grandpa on the straight and narrow. As for breakfast I tend to eat a brunch at 10 or 11 some where on the way to where ever I am headed.
I like your "get out and do the thing" phrase. :)
I really like this sort of road stories, so I watched with pleasure. Thanks Amanda
Thanks Uncle Longboard !! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
As a backpacker, anytime you're too warm in cold conditions, it's a win. Great video, Amanda!
As long as you don't start sweating, That could cause hyperthermia, Or so I've been told.
Honestly amazing perseverance. You make it look easy for from this side of the screen lol. So vibey and gorgeous despite the crazy weather! 🌬 You earned those blue skies!
Thanks Meghan :D
Man blue skies feel like 10x more amazing after a shit day XD
I'm setting out on my first motocamping trip this weekend and the anxiety is real. Hearing "I will get through it" really helped out today. Thank you!
Just remember that everything you do is a learning curve and you'll get valuable new information from what will become your first of many motocamping trips..

Good luck on your trip!

I have an immense admiration for anyone who goes camping in a WHITE puffer jacket. Kudos to you! Who do I call for wisdom? Nobody, sadly, I usually just blunder on.
AZ, we live in a parallel universe. First week of March I ran into hellacious winds in southern NM. Had a campsite reserved at Pancho Villa State Park. Got there, the kind camp lady-host suggested that I move over to another site that had a stone wall that would shield me. If the tent had been five inches wider it would have never fit between the wall and the concrete picnic table. Got a good nights sleep in my summer bag. The next morning, the wind had increased from 15 to twenty to 30 to 40 with 50mph gusts. I head north to I-10, checked the weather which had been a great ten day forecast only to learn it all crashed. Headed back to El Paso on I 10, speed limit 80, I barely did 30 fighting the winds, rode through a dust storm and Thunder snow in my retreat. Had a great tail wind back to IN though!! don't you love those HIppo Hands?? I have Raynaud's in my right hand...I love them. I was driving in this storm in m y Subaru, and stayed in a hotel. You are amazing to me!
Way to stick it out in less than ideal conditions . You are so right the rewards are there in the end. Moms rule
Well done! 👍
Hooray! I had early access! 🙌🏻. Thank you for sharing the good parts and the struggles. I let’s people know that struggles like this don’t determine the ending, but pushing through struggles and finding solutions will make it well worth it. End-screen crew answer - I call Dad. 😁
Good job. 😊👍
LOVE that you didn’t allow the rain to dictate your plans. Maaaaybe I’m on team “irrational” lol That veggie paella looked bomb! If it were me, I’d be eating a PB & J sammich 😂
Hi Mama Zito!
Congrats
🙌
Tim C needs your perseverance and enthusiasm right now.
Amanda, I have to give you credit you are one tough chick.
lol thank you Jim
Great video Amanda. I like your perseverance and the message of not giving up. I don't call anyone I would have just ridden home for breakfast! Do you keep all your bike gear inside your tent when wet?
Respect 🙌👍
Great video as usual and that DJI Osmo Action is working like a champ!
I hope it goes through, it is a sheer luxury to have when the traffic comes to a stop for whatever reason.
hi girl good to see you back good video davey london bikers uk
lol didn't know I was gone?? I've been posting new videos every Friday on the dot
Great job embracing the suck. It’s always worth it when it’s over. 😂
My dog's name is Rumple! haha
I call nobody for wisdom.
AW Thank you so much Erica! I really appreciate that!
Amanda, what is riding without rain!! I give you credit, your adventure are story tellers!!
Thanks very much!
Sometimes the best spots are the windiest.
