CCI is without question the bright and shinning star among the big ammo companies. They offer new innovative quality products not just renamed "new and improved" sales gimmicks! CCI also almost single handedly brought us out of the .22 shortage making more .22 than the hoarders could buy!
Shout out to Magazine Warehouse! I've purchased several handgun mags for cheaper than in store from them. I can't believe how quiet that setup is. It truly is the ultimate quiet shooter. Great video.
love the .22lr. great caliber for small game and great for fox whistling.. normally I use winchester superspeed 37.8g copper plate hollowpoints st 1260fps
I built a 10/22 with a titan stock, firefly bolt, Volquartsen trigger group, cvlife 6-24x50mm, Volquartsen buffer and a 50 rd drum. It shoots pretty nice, definitely want a regular 10/22 for my 3k rds of regular 22 though. It's seriously worth it
For all the people asking if it will shoot this round or that round safely. He said in the video if it is under 1000 fps it will be fine... If you don't know what fps the round is google is your friend...
My 10/22 take down shoots cci quiet with just a nylon bolt buffer and a volquartsen extractor , cycles evertime. Can even alternate standard and quiet in the mag, still works.
I would hate to know how much $ I have in my .22...I'm not rich, but I have a sick shooting 10/22 that will cycle subsonic ammo. If I were rich I would have a better optic for it.
Old tubefed semi autos that can cycle shorts will cycle these. My old Springfield 187m runs them flawlessly. But it's pretty sweet they came out with this for the ruger.
I just bought the Firefly bolt tonight for my 10/22. I have built my 10/22 to shoot only Subsonic ammo. I have my 10/22 suppressed and it is so quiet all you hear when you shoot it is a click. It is quieter than a Red Ryder BB gun. The only problem I have had is the gun won't cycle. Well tonight I just changed that. Setting a 10/22 up to shoot subsonic ammo only is the ultimate varmint rifle. My friends are amazed at how quiet my setup is. I have a lot of money invested in my rifle. I have changed basically everything on the gun. For a backyard varmint rifle this is the ultimate setup. I bought a green led light so I can shoot at night. Foxes, squirrels, raccoons and possums don't stand a chance.
I changed the buffer on my take down when they came out, and it'll shoot the cci quiet no problem. Ive even mixed loads in the mag and it still works 90% of the time
Nice. But the Sig 522 will cycle CCI Quiet right out of the box. At least mine does. That rifle you are using looks to have a 16 inch barrel, with the Quiets the longer the barrel the quieter they get. Out of a CZ Ultra Lux with 28 inch barrel they are really quiet. I do like the idea of this bolt though, double taps on squirrels come to mind.
Just got into target shooting with my brand new Ruger 10/22 Carbine. I'm already a huge fan of your channel, Mr. 22 Plinkster, and I'm learning a lot about this whole community I had no idea I didn't know! Can anybody tell me what kind of scope he is using? I recently purchased a TruShot TruGlo 2x7-32 rimfire scope and I haven't equipped it yet, I'm still unsure bc I want to be able to use both the scope and the iron sights....anyway, thank you for your support and consideration if you have read this far!
Like someone else said, why not just swap recoil springs to a Kidd spring? I've got one that cycles subs and supers no problem with the stock bolt. Much cheaper and more versatile in my opinion.
These little 10/22's are deadly ass little weapons in competent hands, i run CCI Stingers outta my G36c clone, match carbon fiber bull bbl, match custom bolt, all Kidd parts and my own custom worked trigger at about 2.5-3lbs its a sick little set up. Running an EoTech/3x Magnifier and out to 150-200yds its over with. Super accurate. Its Impressive. Changed my whole outlook on 22lr fr lol
Try this....download a Decibel App on your phone then test. That will really tell you the difference between the two you can sink your teeth into. Love your videos!!
22plinkster - Bravo!! - I have the Magnum Research rifle in the 17Mach2 (like the $550 one from years back). Obviously had to go to 22LR due to issues with the 17M2... I opted for the Tac-Sol fluted barrel with end cap for suppressor. I have fired the CCI-Quiet in the stock gun but, as expected, it doesn't cycle it well. I've been thinking of getting the Fire Fly bolt and this video set that in motion. hahaha. Thanks man!
I think this might be the solution I've been looking for. I might get one of these just so I don't have to replace my unthreaded barrel AND get a suppressor.
How has your bolt held up? I bought one for my daughter to teach her to shoot so she would be afraid of the sound. I made her an ultralight pink 10/22 with a fluted tactical solutions barrel and after three or fours shoots of cci quit it locked up. On disassembly the metal insert that is pressed into the bottom of the bolt had fallen off. I'm waiting to hear from volquartsen on getting it shipped in and fixed. Looks like it should have been put in with a set screw instead of spiked in
mark oshields, I sent it back and they re staked it. I read in another forum and found a guy in Baton Rouge that had the same problem with his. On his they machined his a bit and held the steel insert piece in by reset screws. I wish they had repaired mine that way seems like a more legitimate fix. It’s got a couple hundred rounds though it and seems to be holding up. If it fails again I’ll pay a machinist to fix it with screws.
All bolts need to be locked open before inserting the GSG 110 rd drum. They state this in the directions, & i had to learn the hard way. It will damage the magazine.
Had issues trying to perfect a 9 twist 1022 to shoot Aquila 60 gr. ...Total custom massaged rig on a Zimmerman arms action polished bolt, trigger, chamber and the works of everything I could do to it, but sooner or later the stovepipe jam popped up with that short case..After changing springs and getting the bolt to slow to get it just right for 6" barrel with suppressor with that strange case with giant slug I saw this bolt for subs and shorts so thought I'd try it to see if I could get more consistent feeds and extracs...Bottom line it doesn't work for 60 gr slug Aquila ammo so forget about this theory its for sub sonic ammo as this round is 950 fps and wreaks havoc on this firefly bolt...What it did do is cause my bolt to slam back at such a high speed the trigger sear could not re-engage the disconnector for the next shot as it caused my trigger to violently bounce the hammer off the sear and never re-set..In fact I got a full auto fire of 3 rounds once because of the violent recoil of this 3 times lighter in weight firefly bolt no matter what spring was used..Also the suppressed rig was as loud as without suppressed because the case ejected before the bullet exited the muzzle..One positive was the extractor is excellent and a super nice design which I wish could be used on all bolts as it threw cases out of the port super nice and fast never failing to extract once,,,I have a nice aluminum paper weight now for $185≥..
hey all curious if the firefly will cycle CCi CB Longs ?? I have a bunch to use up before buying CCi quiet. They are both 710 ft/sec but the CB is olnle a 29 GR bullet vs the quiets 40 GR bullet ... curious if newtons law and 11 GR = no bueno??
TheParone I'm talking about shooting it without a suppressor. It should be very quiet with one, but without one, it is somewhat loud, at least from a short barrel. However, from a rifle length barrel, it is very quiet, even with no suppressor.
Good video but I hate those CCI quiet, they are too underpowered, I use CCI standard for silencer but my favourite are hight velocity so no need of silencer
Awesome review as always! Big fan here! Just out of curiosity, any chance you might do reviews for the S&W/Performance Center M&P 15-22 and the Ruger American Rimfire Target model in the future?
I have the Firefly bolt in my 10/22 as well. DO NOT shoot ammo faster than 1000fps. I accidentally shot some Federal that was ~1200fps & my rifle went full auto. Luckily it was only 10 rounds & I do not believe I did any damage to my rifle.
I would definitely pay 200$ If it was able to run regular ammo too.I mean one tug on a charging handle isn't that hard anyways, sure it's annoying but not a special bolt and $200 annoying.and who in their right mind would build a special 10/22 just to run cci quiet rounds.
I have super colibri 20 grainers in my 10/22 right next to me out thinning the chipmunk population. I would just stick with bolt actionish use but that's cool. Love the videos as always. Those fly about 590fps for those who don't know.
CCI CB Longs are quieter than CCI's Quiet and CB Shorts ( I know hard to believe but try them if you can find them). Will this also cycle CCI CB Longs? I believe they're @10FPS slower.
@@justinbellio2285 no, you were asleep between 2:51 and 3:17. There is no free lunch. If you lighten the mass of a slide or bolt and or buffer spring to cycle lighter power loads, it will be battered by shooting full power. Hence, I would rather have my 10/22 set up with the factory bolt and cycle the light stuff by hand.
In Australia, the closest thing that Sporting Shooters can have to semi auto 10/22 is a Ruger Charger on a Handgun Licence. Would the Volquartsen FireFly Bolt work in a Charger using CCI Quiets?
I'am curious if the "Firefly bolt" will cycle the Aguila Super Calibri round?. Supposedly the Super Calibri has more primer compound than the standard Calibri round.
I keep thinking "Hickock" is going to yell at you to get out of his yard!
Ha,ha,ha. As long as he's not smokin Mr Hickock's pot!

james smith I mean it's pretty good but lapua is pretty damn good too if you want some fairly accurate 22
I use CCI in my .17 and my dad has always used cci in his .22 never had a jam. Ever. Atleast on my end.
that is sweet! with the suppressor you mainly hear just the bolt cycling. nice vid.

I'm 12 and I just shot my first gun it was a 22 plinkster I thought that was pretty cool so I came here to tell you
I installed the Firefly on my 10/22 and it does exactly what it says it does. Cycles CCI and Aquilla flawlessly. It was worth the money in my opinion.

FYI, for anyone looking for one they just reintroduced this! Get it while it’s hot!
I have a Browning sa22 and it cycles the original CCI Quiets like it was made for them
Nice. I might try some of these quiets out of my single six.
They sound like a throw-snapper when fired out of my colt. Being a revolver they are still a bit rough on the ear closest to the cylinder gap.
Dang... But I also have a Ruger MK III and a Ruger SR22... I guess I should try them all.
Look into Aguila Colibri... you're welcome ;)
Not super excited about the bolt but I'm really digging that stock.
Like someone else said, why not just swap recoil springs to a Kidd spring? I've got one that cycles subs and supers no problem with the stock bolt. Much cheaper and more versatile in my opinion.
The gevarm got around this problem by putting the mainspring guide either inside the bolt for high power or inside the stock for low power ammunition.
I have a Remington 550-1. It will cycle the cci quiets. I guess because it can shoot shorts, longs and LR.
You should record how loud it is with the CCI quiet a can and your finger on the bolt so it wont cycle.

Hickocks next-door-neighbor? Nice set-up you have.

Probably because it cost dang near as much as a supressor, you could literally buy another 10/22 for $200 lol.
I want them to make a bolt for my Ruger 22/45 Lite to cycle the CCI quiet.
CCI Quiet is still fairly loud out of a handgun, by the way. It's more quiet than a normal 22lr, but it's only hearing safe from a rifle.
buy a stock spring and cut it down shoot it cut it in till it works just dont use reg ammo with the shorten spring.
TheParone
I'm talking about shooting it without a suppressor. It should be very quiet with one, but without one, it is somewhat loud, at least from a short barrel. However, from a rifle length barrel, it is very quiet, even with no suppressor.
I got a sparrow that I use on my 22/45 and a S&W victory it is super quiet with reg ammo. I never use hearing pro. with mine
In New Zealand we pay between $50 to $100 nz dollars all up for a 22 suppressor why do you guys pay so much for this bit of kit cheers.
Now that is cool 😎 thanks for the review and info!!!

Hey Plinkster, any way you can make a video with this Volquartson bolt and the Ruger Silent SR barrel? See how silent that set up is?
The Remington 550 -1 can shoot both never had a problem It is an old 22
Why can’t I shoot high velocity ammo with the firefly bolt? What’s the danger?
that cci quiet ..wont cycle out of a CMMG AR 22 LR conversion kit either.
That's what I was wondering... Good to know.
I wonder if this would work with the .22 long CB I don't think it would but it would be pretty cool
What about aguila colibri? You should have had some with you to test, they are even less than quiet.

Whaaaaatt??? That doesn't make any sense to me. How
When I first watched this video I instantly thought to myself i need to order this bolt now... But then i went to website and saw price.....
Swap out your charging handle spring
i'm thinking how much better your shows could be with a camera and mic close to the targets. what do you other guys think?
Just change the recoil spring to a lighter one . I think mine is a a kidd spring.
I have the Kidd Lightweight spring in my rifle and it still won't cycle subsonic ammo.
What is the best place to get all the aftermarket stuff one might want.? Charge handle, trigger, mag release...
On a rare occasion ive had some subs cycle but yea no they dont got the power to cycle as regylar velocity
I'm thinking of looking into getting a softer spring, I really believe that's all it would take to cycle a lower velocity round in a 10/22
Really curious to hear it with the mist 22 suppressor and/or holding the bolt shut so bolt noise is eliminated
Very nice video. Thanks!!

Gemtech subsonic cycles and is quiet.
22plinkster What about the new 10\22 ISB!?

I would rather cycle the action for the quiet rounds and leave the rifle set up with the factory bolt for better versatility.

Will this setup cycle Aguila Super Colibri (~590 fps) or Aguila Colibri (~420 fps)?
Did u try it with Aquila Colibri, which is only primer, no powder ???
My gag fell apart after about 4 full mags, but it fed well
Lots of money to shoot over priced ammo in semi auto.
In Australia, the closest thing that Sporting Shooters can have to semi auto 10/22 is a Ruger Charger on a Handgun Licence. Would the Volquartsen FireFly Bolt work in a Charger using CCI Quiets?
It should because I'm pretty sure the receiver/action is the same. I've got the first version of the charger.
Just get a .22 short recoil spring from midway for 10 bucks, and you can shoots cci quiets and cycle them all day long. Screw that overpriced bolt
can you make a review but of the cz455 varmint pls
Can’t you just swap out your charging handle spring? Seems a lot cheaper
Audio seems to be clipping with every word. Might want to adjust the gain settings on your microphone.
Anyone known if this bolt can be used with the new binary trigger for the 10/22?
I'am curious if the "Firefly bolt" will cycle the Aguila Super Calibri round?. Supposedly the Super Calibri has more primer compound than the standard Calibri round.
