  • Today I visited the famous Taj Mahal in Agra, India. A place that has been on my bucket list for a long time. I visited with some Bangladeshi Friends I made on the journey and took a few hours exploring this incredible new wonder of the world. I gave my honest opinions about the Taj Mahal and then had some delicious Indian food after with the boys.

'Aap kaha hai?' means Where are you?
'Aap kaha se hai?' means Where are you from?
And Taj Mahal is overrated. Please visit Kailasha Temple-Elora Caves in Maharasthra. That temple is an ancient engineering marvel. It is a man made cave system which has some spectacular temples and the mysterious and holy Kailasa temple is carved out of a single big rock in a top-down approach with beautiful designs. It is also one of the very few ancient Hindu temples which survived invaders and their destruction in Northern India.

I am missing india.. I stayed there for 2 monts for work and I really enjoyed their hospitality. I stayed in gurgaon and got the chance to explore delhi and agra. Food was amazing and the visit to Taj Mahal was one of the highlights of my trip. Kulfi was one of my favorites but I agree the crowd can be pretty overwhelming. Some street sellers even ran after my car trying to sell me some stuff. But all in all it was fun and unforgettable.

You are probably not aware of this, but some of your comments come across as being conceited, condescending, slightly mocking and has a whiff of white privilege. For example, shouting out to Muslim gentleman, that 'I like your dress'. I would hate to think what would happen if you had said that to a kilt wearing Scotsman in Glasgow. And please don't cuss the street vendors ..they are just trying to make a living...

I think I read that the trade in spices built the Taj Mahal. Europeans in the 1500s were paying a lot of money to buy spices since it was a sign of social status to have spices. They also wanted their food to taste better. Spain was bringing in a lot of gold and silver from the Americas and this was traded for Indian spices. The Mughal Emperor got rich from such a lucrative trade and this allowed him to splurge on extravagant projects like the Taj Mahal.

It’s not worth it. It was built by destroying Hindu and Buddhist buildings and using precious stones and other materials derived from them. After it was built the architect/ builder’s eyes were blinded by the cruel king so that he could not work for anyone else and build anything similar or better. .
