until 1857 taj mahal used to be studded with diamonds and many precious stones looked even prettier before those were looted during the British rule. top spire of taj mahal used to be all gold, it got looted and replaced with a brass one. indian style fruit and flower gardens were cut and british lawns were grown.

Davud, it's ok for you to make a visit to this great monument in the morning hours for an early sunrise visit but if you could see it even from outside a distance away of few kilometers on a full moon night you'd never forget what you saw for the rest of your life. I saw it on such a day way back in 1960 when I was around 19 years old. Unforgettable.

Mughals were Turks, but they adopted Persian culture. Early Mughals like Babur came from Farghana of Chagatai Khaganate, so their architecture had similarity to Uzbek style. Even many buildings Akbar's Fatehpur Sikri bears resemblance to Mongol "gehr"(tents)
But later Mughals adopted Indian and Persian culture. Taj Mahal has a lotus shaped dome like Indian style, "minakari" design like Persian style and Ottoman style minaret. "Chhatris", "Verandas" and "Jaffri" work add a Rajput feature. This style is called "Indo-Islamic" architecture.
British took this, added lil bit of Greek, Egyptian and western style, and made it "Indo-sarasenic" architecture.
