There's a big difference btw India of 2012 and India of 2022. Almost everything can be done online, there are apps for almost anything. Even teasellers accept digital payment. I don't understand why you wouldn't spend 5$ on a local sim, enjoy internet on the go (instead of looking for hotels with wifi) and make use those facilities

Harry I spent 2 1/2 months in 2019 (before COVID) travelling all over Rajasthan. It is one of the best parts of India to be sure. I used all local drivers and drove btwn towns and villages. That way I got to go at my own pace, see all the countrysides and stop in any small town that i wanted to. Its also a great way to see local life and chat with locals. Flights are also cheap so you can fly to speed up the journey if you want. I already have my tickets booked for this November when I will be returning to Jaipur, Mandawa, Jaisalmer and Pushkar. ENJOY!

These sleeper buses are not very comfortable since it feels more bumpy while lying down. You could have chosen Volvo sitting bus. They have reclining seats and are most comfortable.

In addition to the traditional things in Jaipur such as the Wind Palaces and Lake Palaces, the fort on the hill etc..., you should check out the new Jaipur Metro... IIRC, ;-)
I believe "The best exotic Marigold hotel 1 & 2" were also filmed in Jaipur! Maybe you can check and see if that hotel actually exists! ;-)
Once you get out of Jaipur, you really need to see the Rajasthani cities of Jaiselmer, Mount Abu, Ranakpur, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, etc..
if you make it into Gujarat, you should definitely see Palithana....
