  • I took the challenge to see how far $10 could go in old town Delhi with my friend ‪@GoWithAli‬ . At first I thought it would not last very long but It ended up lasting most of the day and you will see in the video I was able to pack in many things such as chai, food, clothes, sweets and a massage. Old town Delhi is such a great spot to meet new people and try new foods.

. @TaZeR I don't think there's any simple answer to why they charge more. It's all a vicious economic cycle. They actually should turn on their meters as per govt. rules, but I guess the meter rates might be too low to earn a decent income. So that's one of the main reasons why they charge more.

Its called Kaju Katli, and it is made up of grinded cashew nuts.

My Indian sister in law makes chai with milk, lots of raw sugar, crushed ginger, whole cinnamon sticks, whole cardamom pods, whole cloves etc, and she lets it steep until all the flavours leech into the chai and then she strains it into enamel bowls we drink from. It is delicious, and the milk comes fresh from their own 2 house cows. Her 3 kids take turns milking the cows. I like the way they leave the calf with the cow until it's quite big, unlike NZ where the babies are taken away from the mother within 12 hours, causing great distress to mother and baby......then they stupidly bottle feed the calves, a long time consuming process.

And Pakistani chai is different again.....but they all have a form of milk chai (dood chai). You can practice making it with full fat milk, the amount and type of sugar you like, and small amounts of your favourite aromatic spices......start with just cinnamon sticks, cardamom and a little ginger.....later you can add cloves if you like it that way.

    2. Milk
    3. Water

    5. White (Refined) Sugar
He has added milk and water. The ratio will be 2:1. Sugar as per the taste. Tea leaves also as per the taste or mostly it's half to one teaspoon.
Once it has given 1 boil, you can add grounded or shredded ginger. For an added flavour you can add grounded cardamom as well.
Both ginger and cardamom are optional.
Give it a boil at a low to medium flame for 2-3 minutes (be cautious, if you boil it at a high flame it might spill out).
