Great work as always! I've been waiting for this video to see if I should return my Eufycam 2C Pro and wait for the Argus 3 Pro. I think I will probably do that because the drawbacks of the Eufy and the worse video quality are dealbreakers.
Biggest drawback of the Eufy is internet is required to view video even though it's local recording and no subscription. If you can't connect to their servers, you can't view any recordings. So if Eufy goes out of business or stops support, you have an expensive set of bricks. Also, they promised storage expansion from the USB port and it never happened (it's still mentioned in the Amazon description!). The small 16GB storage is probably why compression is so high.
Biggest drawback of Reolink is storage at the cameras only. They are cheaper, but you also have to buy dashcam rated microSD cards so they can handle heat/cold and constant writing. Not having RTSP makes sense because of the battery, but not even connecting to their NVR to store recordings is a major oversight. That would solve the local recording issue, I think. I think the slow FPS at night will be fixed, so I'm not to worried about that. Without the base station handling processing, I think battery life won't be that great. Definitely must be kept in low activity areas even with solar panel.
I don't like the Arlo at all, so no comments for that one from me :)

@@carlandrews5810 I returned the Eufy cameras because of the internet required issue. I kept a Eufy doorbell though because not a whole lot of good options in that space.
For cameras I went with super discounted Reolink Lumus. Quality is mediocre but okay. But no batteries to worry about and I like the spotlight. Onboard motion detection is, at best, bad and at worst, totally broken. No official RTSP support even though it's wired. RTSP support only works through a "hacky" server app someone made. It's not super reliable, but I did get it to work with Blueiris (later moved to Frigate + Home Assistant). With Frigate and a Google Coral ML stick, detection is MUCH better. But I wouldn't recommend this setup to someone who doesn't like to tinker. Definitely not plug and play.
I wish I could wire up some POE Reolink or Amcrest. But wired wifi cams are best I can do. I'm happy enough until I find something better, but it seems like everything is either wired POE NVR or battery wifi with internet required and nothing in-between.

Debating on getting 2 cameras I need one for the front and back yard. North side front, south side gets back sun exposure. Ideally leave them inside and plugged in. Live in MI gets -30F here. Suggestions on a brand or brands that would work for my concerns. No lag between movements, leaves blowing creating false alerts, sunlight making the camera unable to see. I have outside outlets I could plug them into if need be don't have to charge that way.

Good review Sir, but the reality is motion detection is a waste of time if the camera us outside. Wind. And more wind until you are winded. I have bought multiple security camers and they (as you said) have strengths and weaknesses. So far out of five manufacturers Wyze an Alfred using cell phones have the best people detection. Iam also in Texas and need a battery operated wireless that I can place on the necks of cows and be notified when a person is detected. Waterproof, with a rugged build.
I respect your opinion and would like your advice. Initially these would be placed on only gentle cattle for easy access. If it is not battery operated i can always add a usb battery device with a solar panel.

Hi! I really like your detailed video but unfortunately, I didn't see you talking about sustainability of those systems. As far as I know, based on my multiple researches, Eufy battery cameras cannot record to the base station when internet is down (but power and wifi are still functioning). Another problem of Eufy is that the base doesn't have battery anymore and you need to buy an extra ups to avoid power interruption. Plus, if you would like to backup in the cloud, the service is really expensive. I would really appreciate to hear your opinion but based on the specs, I believe Argus is the best for now with battery, recording offline and 1 free cloud storage. Thanks for your videos!

Hi LH! and Once again thanks for the testing and analysis💪🙏! It sucks a bit the Eufy has not upped their game in the resolution department, and still recording with high compression, not giving the end user the ability to customize😣. Especially cause of using the Homebase to store recordings, where in my case i will be using en external SSD drive to store the recordings on, hooked to the Homebase2.Size will be 1TB so there should be plenty of space for for example me to run lower compression with better outcome on the video quality. Come on Eufy!!!! you can do it!....it´s more or less a software/firmware tweak they need to do.
As for the Vessi´s....they look great.....only issue is they don´t sell them in Europe! Or else i might consider getting me a pair of Men´s everyday in blue. 😉
PS! It would be great if at some point you also could do comparisons between how they work with Google assistant, Alexa and the Amazon app. Just to see the difference in interaction between them. I am an Android Fan boy so for me everything runs on Android platform.

Great breakdown on the possible important aspects of the security cameras. I've tested on Blink v2 and it doesn't deliver what I need in terms of video quality at night and buffer recording when notification is sent out. My subjects are already out of view by the time the camera starts recording. Although it might improve if I add one of those motion activated lights, that's something I would also love to see on your reviews of cameras that don't have spotlights.
With that I'm focusing my efforts on eufycam 2k versions at the moment as its cheaper vs Lorax(no wiring needed) or Arlo(also has a subscription double whammy) which has 4k capability. I also just need 1 camera so that further limits my options, NVR would be an overkill at this point. I was also thinking of backing up footage from the camera or HomeBase to a PC at regular intervals so space won't be a problem. What are your thoughts on this?
You mentioned that the eufy ones are better, in terms of notifications and buffered videos. The Solo S40 takes around 10+ seconds while the eufyCam 2C Pro 4+ seconds and eufyCam 2 Pro 3+ seconds respectively. You also mentioned that the Solo S40 also takes a while to view the video and download it. So would that make the eufyCam 2 pro or 2C Pro a better choice?
Side question How do you view and download the video from the eufyCam 2 pro or eufyCam 2C Pro? From what I understand they are stored in the HomeBase 2 right?

Hey, nice video, i really like your tests and comparisons...
Do you know if Eufy is planning to reduce video compression ? Or if it's already done ? Or is there a way to change it ?
For me the Eufy is the most interesting but when you see the video footage... yeak... what is it for to have a 2k resolution and you compress it so much that you can't even read a lisence plate at 30 feets...

Wondering same. But doesn't appear the compression is adjustable or that Eufy is planning to add adjustability. Deal breaker. Otherwise I'd prob go with Eufy.

I realize this video is from a year ago now, but some additional comments for Reolink Argus 3 Pro: 1) Argus 3 Pro now has motion zones in the new firmware. 2) for a "homebase" comparable to Eufy, Reolink has the "Reolink NVR Go", which also is the NVR for their 4G-connected camera's. The Reolink seems to have the most reliable PIR motion sension by using a pixel shift detection. I had a Vacos Cam IR for testing for a while and when approaching it directly from the front, or walking straight away from it, it sometimes started recording only after 5-10 seconds.
What I missed was how reliable the Person detected is in your opinion.

    • @SpotOnTechNL
      @SpotOnTechNL 2 года назад

@@stephenb1367 one with a permanent power supply then ;) dont forget that if you remove the camera for charging, which means once every few months, then you dont have a camera during that time you're charging the camera. Plus how many months do you think it will take before you forget to charge the camera and like half a year later realize the camera is probably empty? The solar panel is not expensive at all with Reolink. Eufy seems to think that charging 50 euros is totally acceptable, but Reolink and Vacos charge around 30 euro (all 3 are nearly identical). Ideally you do need direct sunlight exposure on the solar panel, but it has a 4 meter cable connected to it, so you have some flexibility on where to put it. But if you can in any way, always go for a permanent power supply - those cameras are simply more reliable, faster, etc etc and require little to no maintenance. If for example you're able to get a network cable to the spot where you want the camera to be, add a PoE injector somewhere at the start of that cable and you can have network+power in 1 cable going to the camera. For example the Reolink RLC-811A. LifeHackster has some good videos on the RLC-811A too. I got a good (positive) review on the 811A also, but its in Dutch so I wont bother linking it ;)

The Arlo pro 4 is different from the pro 3. Or maybe it’s just the software but it has excellent day time recording and it’s flawless but as soon as the sun sets it’s absolutely garbages even with the led on. I don’t know why it doesn’t do well at night. It’s quite sad for paying so much money for to only have a 35 Wyze v3 out preform it at night. Not to mention the audio quality from Arlo is one of the best

    • @Johndada517

I've had the arlo 4 since release 5 cameras and have had nothing but issues with them
      Loosing connection
      Batteries failing
      Battery over heat
      Battery to cold
Audio don't record alot of the time
Audio not working at all on 3 cameras on recordings
Constant app issues with the app loosing my payment info
2 cameras freeze up all the time and need to be manually reset every couple days
I have 1 camera that works flawlessly well over 100 plus days on a charge somehow the night time picture is better than the others the Audio works 90% of the time and never had a battery issue or connection issue with it and it's the one furthest away from my router with the lowest signal lol so it really don't make sense if all the cameras worked like this one I'd say hands down they are the best but unfortunately they are not that great

Will these continue to record a motion event as long as there is motion? My Reolink Eco usually only records 7-8 seconds of events, and it is usually late to start recording. My Ring Doorbell Pro will only record for a minute. Thanks for all your great content.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  3 года назад +2

Yes..you can adjust on the eco in the setting to lengthen the recording time..but remember for the camera to continue to record..the motion needs to be in motion..like especially in your front door..when somebody gets to your door and just stand there..more than likely the camera will stop recording because the motion has stopped but in reality the person is still there but just standing still.
