Hi, I am a daily cyclist living in Hong Kong. Just watched your video. I am quite disappointed that HK is not a cyclist friendly city especially in HK Island and Kowloon. I stay mainly in the New Territories, keeping away from heavy traffic and industrial areas. There are crazy professional drivers in HK. So even though I had been riding road bikes over 30 years, I would not dare riding in the heavy traffic like you. It is extremely dangerous and we are not welcome in many places. Anyway, quite good, you did something that I didn't do!

I stay with my girlfriend's family in Hong Kong NT for 1-3 months every year. When going for extended runs here, I've also run into the problem of roads that Google Maps routes me through either being closed off by tall metal fences or guarded by large and fairly aggressive dogs. It's quite stressful. Sticking to the cycling lanes is probably best, but man, they are always so short …

Jasper - you were so very close at the dogs and water treatment plant! Really need to know your way around. You would have had trouble on 23mm tyres going through the fish ponds beyond although it’s a very short section. Beyond that the roads are much better and it’s worth to cycle along to see some interesting stuff. Yes, traffic can be horrendous in parts so not that enjoyable. -Maybe next time!

The way that they paint the bike on the cycle path is the same as here in the UK. Hong Kong was a British territory up until 1997 when we handed it back to the Chinese, which also explains why they drive on the left. It’s not actually a country either, officially it is part of China, although it is allowed to operate as a separate country.
