About time I made this hey!
Seriously though, thanks everyone for the suggestions thus far, I'd love to hear what you guys have for suggestions and topics you'd like me to cover in the future coming tutorials I'll be making!
thank you
btw can you do a real-time drawing video please? im a slow learner so... but if theres any apps to make the video slower please do tell me:D
+Bea Lolicon he mentions it in the beginning of the video
Oo, that sounds like a great idea!
Of course! I'm planning on even doing some voiceovers and slowing down some of my timelapse videos to talk about what I'm doing & thought processes!

I better not be the only one with a 5 dollar pallet here-
nope :) I got pretty cheap water paints 😺😺😺
I got mine at five or below😔🤚
when I first started watercolours mine was literally from the pound shop 💀
🤣🤣🤣 but no , you aren’t! Lol me and you both
Nahhh I use the ones for kids. Things like Edu3
I have to tell you that a couple years ago I got interested in doing water color. I followed this tutorial and copied the image of this girl that you taught.
A couple years before this I became great friends with my neighbor. My husband was working a ton and she was a single mom so our relationship grew into more of a co-parenting relationship with our combined 7 children. Her 3 girls and my 4 boys.
For a while I had the kids do water color with me. The youngest girl discovered her love for art and was always drawing after that. She was 6 at the time.
A couple months ago the girls were traveling with their dad and got in a car accident and all 3 girls passed away. I found the water color image I made and realized the version I did resembled the oldest girl. It was also special to me because I made that image while I was with them. It inspired me to make a water color image for the other 2 girls. I put it on a 4”x 4” canvas and glued the dried flowers from their funeral to make up their clothing, bouquets, and put a flower in their hair and then I gave the canvases to their mom.
Such a small and simple thing, but it was a ripple effect of you sharing your talent.
I’m so sorry for your loss❤️❤️❤️ this made me cry
@@Katkat12330 Thank you.
Wow- idk what to say, I'm sorry for the loss tho 😭
Dang, that wasn’t a story I was expecting 😥 Sorry for your/her loss

this is how my brain works:

That was my thought, but then realized that his intention in the hair was to set the light base tone, and later added the darker details (strands of hair) with dry surface later. The timing of his comment was just odd.

“Water color is a water based paint so it’s not just about how u paint but how you use the water”
Been in art school 2 years and that’s the best advice I’ve gotten about water color I’m excited to try it again with that in mind
:)
"You'll need plenty of brushes"
*looks at one cheap brush i got at dollar tree*
Shit...
That's so funny I just came back from the dollar tree to buy cheap brushes
*
Smugly looks upon my pile of cheap ass brushes I got since I don't like cleaning em*
Really do be like dat doe 😔
This is super late but anyway, you don't need many brushes. Just make sure they have enough snap (they keep their shape better idk how to explain it but there are yt videos on snap of brushes) and get maybe one super thin, one medium and one bigger round brush. Obv it depends on what you want to paint but those 3 should suffice for most things. Maybe get one flat brsuh too for harsh edges.
I stole mine from my art teacher Mrs Kasselman
I learned more from you in seven minutes than I have from all my art teachers.

Me too. I'm not trying to go advanced or anything so the basic wet on dry is fine for me. I just like to goof around and make basic flat color stuff. I normally do acrylics but I was displaced from home and watercolors beez more portable and long lasting :3
You need crazy patience for water colour painting.
I don't have any. So I end up creating abstract stuff

I keep forgetting where i put things and can't find them even though they are right in front of me
Just why is this so relatable

I guess you have figured it out, since your comment is 1 year old, but I'll say it anyways: It's a matter of the paper you're using. Special watercolour paper doesn't absorb the water too quickly, so you have a tiny bit more time to work with it.
Elle-Iza Logan wait I thought she just forgot her water I didn’t know it was about the paper? 😂😂
I literally have only one paintbrush since i‘ve been more into drawing

I started studying art a few years ago and got so frustrated because I hated the way I was being taught so I gave up and I haven't picked up a brush since then (except from makeup brushes, I'm a makeup artist lol). It was my dream for a big part of my life to be an artist, and I guess I am in a different way, but It still makes me so sad when I think about how something I loved so so much suddenly got asociated to a negative feeling in my mind... I've tried to retake it so many times and failed, I never felt inspired enough.. And your video just made me really wanna try again and be creative so thank you so much, I'm gonna get some paper and find my old watercolor palette and start creating again :)
Thank you so much, this video really made a difference to me
Aw geez, this was absolutely beautiful and moving to read... I should be thanking YOU Marta! I really do hope you are able to pick up something you loved so much again and hopefully be able to associate it with positivity again!
my art teacher ruined it for me because she was so strict and i felt so caged in that I can't stand it even though I really wanna do it

Erika Hi. Erika Hi, I don't like to hear that.I had a love of art and was discouraged at a young age so I quit. I should have listened to my own heart.
Just do it the way your heart desires! To me art has no exact rules, and everyone has their own unique way to do it, that's what makes art so awesome!

I find myself desperately wanting to create art again, whether it's to paint, draw or color. But then when I have all my supplies out and get ready to get to work... I lose my motivation because I don't know what to paint, or I feel it's ugly. And so I just put all the stuff back and do something else, like browse the net and waste time :/
Same here! It always happens to me! I barely use my supplies!
Damn same.
why is this so true? :O
i thot i was alone with this feeling
I used to get my inspiration from other drawings and let's say i started from re-drawing other drawings to get better and get more used to it
After that i find myself getting a few ideas randomly and they aren't bad haha i am still VERY slow at drawing though because i really try and need it to turn out good if i really want it to
It's very rare for a beginner to instantly get all the inspiration from their own mind alone, but keep working! It might be worth it :)
please make some more tutorial for us beginners, Im dying to learn how to paint
It's nice to see the same family out here :D

4:13 "the rule is that you paint light to dark"
*starts with darkest color in painting*
Eh, i would go dark to light, dark is so powerful if you make mistakes with dark it will destroy your lights. If you make mistakes with light it will barely affect your darks

Hey there Kelogsloops. Thanks so much for this. We are starting a watercolour group and will be using your tute to help us get started. Thanks for showing up and putting goodness into the world. It's better because you did!
This cheerful and relaxed approach was just the little push I needed to actually pick up one of my brand-new brushes and finally begin on my own path with this medium that has fascinated me since the day as a child when I used the only materials at hand. I employed a piece of slick card stock paper from a package of silk stockings, diluted food coloring and blended colors, a wooden toothpick, and a Q-tip to paint a rainbow trout. It was the best result, surprisingly enough and my mother could barely believe I'd done it with those supplies. Now 72 years later, I'll try to do it 'right.' Thanks for this video and your enthusiasm.
Great tutorial :-)

You have a really friendly and accessible teaching style, good pace and quantity of information - thank you for taking the time to make this.
I think I was taught water color this way many many years ago. In an art class. Thanks for putting so much time and effort into putting this out for free :) I've been wanting to get back into water colouring and this will be a huge help!
I’ve always wanted to try out watercolor. I just got my heartbroken and I’m trying to find the person I used to be-but improved.
You’re my first ever watercolor teacher so thank you! :D
Lovely. Never stop painting though cuz life is full of exceedingly more painful heartbreaks and it gets worse every time.
I'm a water color artist and I had to paint this giant backdrop mural for my school performance and I'm just so used to using water to blend what I want so when the director came and was watching me paint he was amazed at me dipping my hands and sponges into a bucket of water. hahaaa I'll never quite get how to blend acrylic paint without water.. The mural turned out great tho 😄
Thanks so much for this an incredible tutorial

Love it! One of the best vids like this I've seen, because you don't ramble and you've got a great voice & personality! Thank you!.
I found this incredibly helpful - your demonstrations are so concise and inspiring! Has been a while since I used watercolour and I’ve learnt more than I even knew before just from watching this. Thank you!
It's one thing to do speed paintings (i.e show off videos) or even tutorials but to explain what you're doing, and why you're doing it, that's infinitely valuable and also, pretty damn rare. Great job 👍

I don't draw, I am more of an abstract modernist,,, I love the flow of the paint. Drawing is too confining for me. sometimes images pop right out :)
1. If you are not good but you really really really want to draw, then nothing is impossible. Personally I was really bad at drawing but I taught my self and in 2 months I learned drawing digitally which was hard of course. But if you really want something then work hard for it.
2. Love your profile pic...
A lot of these pictures you see are simpler and easier than you think, because a lot of the watercolour and paint effects are spontaneous and don't need you to control every little detail.
I would love more of these tutorials. You explain it so well as well as give demos about the techniques. Thanks
The first time I painted with watercolour, I didnt let the paint dry on my canvas and that made painting incredibly difficult as I had a lot less control. Also make sure you dont use an abundance of water because it will take forever to dry and it may not look as good!
I would love to see you do a collab with PearFleur!

Thank you so much for making these tutorial videos! I got a tutorial book for watercolor recently and it assumed people already knew these techniques, and were using tube watercolor. I use a pallete of watercolor paints and felt like I was missing so many steps! I also love how inclusive this is of any budget or type of watercolor paint, it doesn't assume only some paints/papers are being used by us.
Love your fast and simple techniques! Thanks so much for creating these for us!
I've been watercoloring for a while and always felt I was doing it wrong even though my paintings have turned out rather good. Thank you for this video! It eased my worry but it also very much informed me. ❤🎨 Keep painting! You're very talented.

This is actually really helpful, even for such a simple video. I've been using a lot more watercolors than before lately.
