One of my dogs would fall asleep in the snow. He would let the falling snow cover him. The same neighbor would call ... EVERY TIME. I finally said ... If she can get him to come in without him throwing a hissy fit. Have at it. Thank goodness she never knew my older daughter couldn't go to sleep in the winter without the window being open. She now lives in Alaska now.
@Todiiyo No ... A Chocolate Lab who wouldn't fetch and didn't like to swim. He'd get upset when the two other dogs went swimming. And neither was a lab. A beagle and a Carolina Dog (Decended from Dingos) my animals are all irregulars
@@HaydenKristalandCo The first time ... Not the 10th time we spoke to her about it. And the Carolina dog was built like a greyhound. She worried about her being too skinny. @bonniedavis4601 people are idiots. The farm where animals being mistaken was 2 streets up from my house so I'd always been the one to explain to people
@@derrickallen8138 It was nice being on a first name basis with the Deputies. As, after the first call or a few calls, they were laughing when they called.
I boarded my 2 Morgans at an Arab boarding facility for about 2 years before moving to a home on an acre. One weekend they had an Arab open house. There were several ranches participating so you could go and see them. Brittany always sunbathed at 8:30 am. You could set your watch by her. During the open house, several people mentioned to the owner of our boarding facility that there was a horse down. She would nonchalantly say, "Oh, that's just Brittany. She sunbathes every day at this time." It was funny because she caused concern from others on a few occasions.
People tend to not realize that horses don’t JUST sleep standing up. That’s only nap time. In order to go into REM sleep (deep sleep), they need to be laying down. They’ll only do it when they feel safe and comfortable, usually having a herd member stay awake and on lookout.
I'm not a horse girl, but I do like em very much. And the thing that kinda gets me is that, if they feel safe while doing this and its so rarely seen that people don't even consider it normal behavior, how sh*tty do people treat horses? This is beautiful, I'd love to see this regularly. Piles and piles of happy horse carcasses.
Some prey animals have entirely different sleeping tics depending on how safe they feel. Guinea pigs, for example, sleep with their eyes open by default, often making it hard to tell if one's awake and relaxing or actually napping. But a guinea pig who feels secure in their environment might sleep with their eyes closed (though even a secure pig won't sleep with closed eyes every time)
Nah I understand. We have a great pyrenees and she just loves it when it's cold. So much that when it's snowing she is right in the middle of the yard and naps there. We have started to pick her up and bring her in by force or the neighbors get upset thinking she straight up died, and not the first time the police or animal control came by the house because of our dog during the winter lol
I had a great pyr crossed with a golden retriever, she loved the snow so much. She would find big piles of it, climb on top, dig into them a bit, and then throw herself into them. Unfortunately our yard wasn't secure and we couldn't afford to fix the broken part of our fence or heighten the parts she could jump over, so we could never just let her vibe outside by herself.
@dogskulls yep, ours did the nest thing too, especially with the snow. But she'd go extra weird and would put random trash or food she finds in the house, or worse dead animals she finds, and brings it out to it. So it was a Supergross thing to clean up when the snow melted lol and if "had" means what it means, then I'm sorry for your loss
@@courtney1496 had a purebred Pyrenees years ago who came home one day with a whole deer leg, hip to hoof. So proud of herself. She couldn’t get it through the door. We heard the commotion and quickly stopped her in her tracks. Looked absolutely heartbroken when it was taken away. Blood all over the door frame. Yuck. (She didn’t kill it herself or anything, of course)
Mares are some of the grumpiest bastards ever, naming her squidward was right on the mark 😂 as an owner of mares myself, all the dents you see in my fences came from the girls not the boys
I’m hearing “Stephen!!! I thought you were deed!!!”😂 anyone else seen that one? We boarded a couple of baby Belgians once for the summer. Every day at least one car would stop. The driver would come to the door with a sad face on to tell us one of our horses was dead. Nope. Just a baby sleeping in the sunshine😂
I’ve had that happen where I ran out to check and make sure the horse was still breathing, but the way you can tell they’re OK is one Horse is sitting up looking around keeping watch for the other horses
Yeah I don’t wanna meet the horse that DOESNT look dead when it naps 😂😂😂😂😂 When you think about it, that’s scarier than passing by and seeing a group of “dead” horses😂😂😂😂
I found out about this and then saw my first horse lying down. My daughter thought it was dead and I said oh no they sleep like that. Turned out the horse was in fact dead. It was very sad. We would wave and say good morning to that horse everyday
In the wild, horses sleep standing up in order to be on their feet whenever danger arrives. Logically deducing, this carcass time-style sleep means these horses feel extremely safe.
In the wild they still lie down for deep sleep. They live in a herd, so one will stand lookout while others snooze. Wild horses just won’t trust people enough to sleep near them- horses only let you see them snoozing if they trust you
our neighbors used to do the same damn thing all the time they constantly accused us of miss treating our horses and my horse Duke is a dumbass and rolls around all the time and sleeps laying down so they would call the cops every time they saw him laying on his side sleeping telling the cops that our horse was dead or that we killed him they were nucking futs man
I had a 30 year old liked to lay down and sleep. I got to where I'd let her in the yard to sleep. But then people on the hiway would call the police on me. Apparently I am a known killer because the police would call me about my favorite horse. I finally got her to sleep in the back portion of the yard so the people up on the hard top didnt see her.
‘Your horse looks dead’
-“Thanks, that means she feels really safe here”
It is such an honor that they all feel so safe and comfortable with me around that they’re willing to be such carcs and let me film it ❤️❤️❤️
@@cat21860 Exactly ... My cat and dogs look like they were hit by a car when they sleep. They aren't afraid of being vulnerable.
1,000th comment, I love it ❤
Seriously though!! She and the others feel so safe haha Although alarming, its such great gauge for how relaxed they are in a setting ❤
More videos please
She’s so routinely with it 😂 “Ah the sun says it’s about 10:30 now, time for me to do my best corpse impression.”

Hahaha, sounds like they ended up in the perfect place! To be fair, I would also be concerned if I saw a sleeping dog get covered up in snow lol

Soooooo beautiful❤
Used to work at local animal shelter and would get calls about "dead" horses. Or about shaggy, unkempt horses which were actually llamas
Maybe lamas were bred just to give us horse/animal people something to laugh at. But I never heard of them looking like a horse! 😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤

The llama comment made me laugh out loud!
All the horses are so cute and I absolutely agree with 10am carcass time.
I think it’s the perfect time for a mid morning nap. Gets you through to the early afternoon nap. Then of course there’s the mid afternoon nap
I agree! It takes a lot of energy to be as fabulous as Squidward. Gotta recharge
Your dear horses are sooo at peace, they are able to completely relax.
Carcass Acres has made it into my group's injokes.
This is the highest form of praise I, as a professional comedian, can hope to achieve ❤️

What a character! Love the neighbor's response. Hope they will calm themselves so Squid can relax for her nap😮😊😅❤
At least if you wonder if your neighbors would care if something did happen… They do ❤
and maybe that’s OK 😂
Yep, content horses when feeling very safe will often sleep laying on the ground.
It means they feel really safe may God bless u and your animals and farm Amen 🙏🏻 ❤
Look, I've always said NAPS ARE GLORIOUS ❤ Squid is just a genius 😊
Carcass time!! I've started saying that when i nap so hard people think something happened to me
