@nikkireviews I'm only 4 years into my journey, which is Floor centric 😁, but I've listened to enough early stuff to pattern their growth and development. Each singer has bought something to Tuomas's writing, and the band has grown and evolved. What Floor adds, over the other 2, cannot be understated. I believe this has freed Tuomas's hand to explore beyond what the boundaries of possibility were. Now he is looking for new boundaries and, I believe, is far from finding any.
Totally right. He not only tell stories, he educates people, make them use own brains and thinking, imagination. That is rare...and needed. World is full of cheap poppy bands with simple music etc. worth nothing just trying to make greedy money and get cheap fame.
Nightwish just continues to evolve bringing philosophical and social mores into context via the incredible Nightwish communication tool…their music🤘🤘 Great review once again Nikki…as I’ve said before you really “get” this band and it continues to show consistently in your reactions..rock on🤘🤘
Thank you! 😊 I'm kinda glad they're adding more of that type of stuff into their music. I always like to dissect everything so it makes it more interesting. 😉😁
Another great reaction Nikki. Took me a second listen to really get the song both musically and lyrically. Each subsequent listen I love it even more and the chorus really sticks in my head. Think you are spot on in your analysis of the lyrics. Definetly references to Orwell's 1984, Y2K, the pandemic and other catastrophes pushed by people in power to control us with fear. I love the lyric " A lust for never-ending doom porn". Such a beautifully poetic way to describe people's lust for the negative like the old news adage, if bleeds it leads.
First time just listening to their music without a video to watch..Maybe one of my favs of Nightwish!!The choir kinda eerie and haunting, but I like it.Great reaction Nikki .Now Im looking forward to TheWarning reaction,of course!!I will have to listen again but I think I caught a little double kick bass drumming going on there, the best!!
It is eerie! But fitting for the whole story of the song, I think. 😊 And yes, The Warning will be tonight! I don't think either of those bands block videos so we should be good!😁🎵
Listening to it multiple times I can definitely hear touches of some of their previous songs, even a rouch of Harvest in there. Amazing song. Not disappointed at all. 😊
@nikkireviews it's not one of my favourites but it'sgrown on me. It has more of a celtic sound. I think it has grown on most of us. It's on the Human Nature album. Keep enjoying Nightwish's songs, they're all varied but have elements of each other in them. I just love Nightwish 😍
This morning, when I listened to the song the first time, I was kinda confused "what the... what did I just listen to?!". Second listen was different. It gets better and better. Especially after reading the lyrics.
i just watched an interview with Tuomas, and he described how Floor is the fearmonger while the choir is hopeful, and at the end they sing together... nice symbolism.
Very good review and analysis. I Instantly fell in love to this song. It's like old and new eras styles melted down together. And of course lyrics were spot on. Greetings from Finland.
Really enjoyed your reaction and analysis. Took me a couple of listens, but I can’t get this out of my head now. Can’t wait for the rest of the album. Thanks for Nightwish Thursday.
Hehe of course! And thank you for tuning it! I can't wait for the rest of it either, both songs so far have impressed me which is nothing new for Nightwish! 😂
I think you have hit a nail there. I'm sure that will turn out to be only a part of it as we listen more, as there is also the "end of the world is nigh" crowd being mocked, so am looking forward to hearing this a few more times
I think with this song it is similar to the song harvest. People disliked it because it was... Too different. They weren't open to enjoy something different. While I understand that some will simply not like this song, technically it's a quite good song, especially the symphonic elements, the choir and the breakdown - and moreover, the lyrics. I don't think those saying the song is crap, or some even saying it's "an insult", are really fans of nightwish. It carries the nightwish DNA, despite being very different. To me the problem is that people go in with certain expectations - many can't get over Marko's departure and look for the things they cannot like, others want to hear floor and can't get over it when she is not the most centric piece of the music and mix. To me, it clicked from the first notes, just like with harvest, procession and music, songs which many simply disliked when they came out. Though harvest and music gained some more fans over time, probably when people did stop listening to it with the idea of how they want nightwish to sound and be like. I listen to each song as it's own little world, then I try to understand how they tie in with other songs on the album and maybe other albums. Talking about harvest... Both new songs had a quite strong "Harvest" type vibe for me - which I personally find a very positive thing. It may be down to the message, intonation and mood in the songs, and how Tuomas transmits it in his composition.
So far I like this song better than the first release, I like the children `s choir in the background. I always like the symphonic music in metal . I like you love drums and bass especially , I have a hard time listening to music without at least one subwoofer.
@nikkireviews Check out Within Temptation for more awesome Symphonic Metal at least their earlier music they also evolved over the years to something different. Sharon den Alden is their vocalist, she like Floor is Dutch. Watch their concert on RUclips "Black Symphony "" it is a true experience . I just thought that you might like them also
Nightwish Thursday. lol. That's the lyrics in the picture ,written vertical. The kids choir is the chorus, that's a bit different. Took me a bit to digest this song, but getting the hang of it. Not that I thought it was bad, just different. It's growing on me, though. Some shorts were posted before hand, one with Tuomas saying this would have an 80's feel musically, and that the lyrics could be controversial. Only looked at the lyrics a couple times, but I'm getting a George Orwell's 1984 type of view on the world today. Lyrics even mentioned '84. I could be wrong, which isn't unusual. lol. Controversial stuff could be ,in part , the mention of AI.
I agree with the 80's sound to it - and yeah, I was thinking that's what he meant with saying 84. 🤔Very interesting song though.. to be in Tuomas' head...🤯
I think you're spot on. Before "this world of '84", there's a mention of "war of the worlds", which I'm guessing is a direct nod to HG Wells. I mean, it's about how some people want us to live, or rather, we let ourselves live, humanity, in constant dread and expectation for our demise. I'm pushing 42. How many times has the world supposed to have ended in this period? 1984, Chernobyl, Y2K, the Mayan Calendar, the 2007-2008 crash, the "caliphate" that would conquer the world, COVID and a myriad of other Apocalypses.
People complain this doesnt sound Nightwish. They have done it many times in the past. Slow love slow sounds like an old american detective film, Arabesque sounds like you are travel by camel in the desert, Turn loose the mermaids is a spaggetti western, and the list continues of coursw. They have operatic songs, more metal songs, more folk songs, more film ost songs... but they complain about this one so hard for some reason haha
Tuomas did release a short pointing out that this was something out of the ordinary with a heavy pinch of 80s. Great song and absolutely great musical composition. I loved the break and featuring children singing the chorus is definitely different. Great experience and wonderful reaction as always. Thanks Nikki. ❤️🤘🤘
I don't know how someone can be a fan of Nightwish and then be surprised when they present different sounds. Every album the last 25 years is very different from the last. Why do the same thing over and over?
The genius part of this one: Yes, Nightwish is evolving. Other sounds arrive. But at the same epic level that we are used to. So different sounds indeed, but at the same time 100 percent Nightwish. Every time I listen to it I discover new things.
I love seeing fans get disappointed because they don't understand or think the music isn't Nightwish's style. Many fans think their idols should stay in a box and never come out of it to do something different. Isn't the goal of an artist to evolve and change?
It absolutely is. Tuomas continues to grow as a composer and explore new avenues with every album. And of course, this is yet another very different song I don't know how he keeps so inventive but long may it continue.
Perfume of the timeless was great and this one different but greater. Honestly this album starting to suond better but in no way this is nigthwish peak, i think the peak nigthwish is gone. Even though i still love them i think that once again Floor is not being used all of her powerfull voice belting and operatic voice it´s just not there, these new songs sound epic but just boring idk why. But great song nontheless, Floor shines a bit here a little bit more.
Second song from the new NW album I've listened too. This is not NW i know. Been a fan since -97. What a load of c***! It's going to be the first album i will NOT buy
Really? 👀 Do you mind if I ask what you don't like about it? I'm a newer Nightwish fan and just assumed everyone is gonna love it simply because it's Nightwish. 😂 Everyone is entitled to like (or not like) whatever they choose, I'm just genuinely curious what you don't like. :)
Way too much sampling and not enough live instruments. Nick nocturnal can make a somg like this in 30 minutes. Is this really what Nightwish have reduced themslves to?
I think this sounds totally Nightwish, and I love how Tuomas keeps us thinking, learning, and exploring.
Genius!
🤘😎🤘
I think so too! Someone said some people disagree, but I don't see why. 🤷🏻♀ I am a new Nightwish fan though, so I guess I can't say for certain!

Interesting approach of 80´s sound. Nightwish is taking their sound to new limits.
Great reaction once again! Nightwish making fun of scare conspiraties😂😂😂😂
I just watched the video Short of Tuomas saying the lyrics are controversial and to wait for the storm before he gave a smile. 😏😂

I agree! Tuomas really knows what he's doing when he writes! 🎵
A great reaction to a great song. I can't wait for the next one.
Thank you!
Nightwish is absolutely a melodic artform. I fell in love with them years ago. It's a sound all their own. Great reaction and first listen.

I noticed the Harvest undertones as well. Also Noise, Tribal and a bit of their early songs. I love this.
I havent looked at the lyrics enough yet but the repeated fear theme reminds me of "Fear is a choice you embrace".
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 Great Job as always Nik
This feels like mixture of Nightwish, Ayreon and Poets of the Fall. Definitely not something I was expecting.
