Hey neighbor, your stunned reaction was pretty much the same as mine. I watched it with you first so that is my first time seeing it also. Nightwish does it again. I have been a fan of this band for over 20 years, and they never fail to deliver. Tuomas is a musical genius and the whole band are amazing musicians. And Goddess Floor is awesome as usual.
My 1st viewing of the video, had listened to it, time to go find the lyrics. It is beautiful, fascinating, always love the youth choir, it brings an innocence to tough subjects ! Lastly Floor Jansen should go off & become a movie star as well. It's hard to watch anything beyond her. The most expressive eyes, & alluring hand movements, soaring, in command, beautiful voice! Tuomas has done it again, what a mind, but Floor always totally gets it, & takes us on the journey!
I love your reactions to Nightwish. My thoughts to this sing and video is that it is a wake up call to all those people who spend their time talking, predicting and worrying about the end of the world that they are not spending their time in the now. Live in the present and work at making the world a better place.
In recent interviews with Tuomas, he states the last two verses, Floor joins in with the children singing. This is interpreted as 'hope'........ but yes, this is great once again and a great reaction too Redhead (as usual).

One of the things that Nightwish does best is encourage you to think and question. This song is a prime example of that. I have listened to this song many times over the past few days, and watched the video a few times. My interpretation has changed a few times as I have listened and watched. I don't think its a song you can digest in a single listen. I'm not sure I've listened to it enough yet because every time I notice something new. If I am still struggling to interpret it myself, I don't feel adequate to try to explain it to others. All I can say is listen, think and then go back and listen and think all over again. And, keep an open mind.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that gets better & better with each listen, which is something that defines greatness in songwriting. The composer, Tuomas Holopainen, has said that this song is his take against all the fear mongering that plaugues main stream media these days. It's a form of mind control to keep the masses of ordinary people in line with official narratives of the ruling class.

I have digested this song a few times now, and changed my perspective each time. Currently - from a helicopter view - this is where I am currently. I think it could say that we are all getting fooled and driven by fear, instead of listening to our inner child being happy and helpful. We are being bombarded with scary facts, blown up by all media, controlled by people who wants to control everything - and wants us to behave in certain ways. If we stop believing the media manipulation - and media war - because they don't agree, therefore they fight - and we take control over our own life and thinking, we could start listening to our inner child, together with others - life might just change...
A new way to go for Nightwish, with the children choir, having as much singing time as Floor almost i belive, Floor is doing some fast phrasing here to, something like she does in the song Shoemaker, kind off. The Ill starred kids of your junkyard thats us the humans right, People today are getting told all kind of doomsday things, AI and war end the world, but this song says, the end is fear, its not near, armagedon aint coming tommrow, so life your life, Also notice that Floor joins the kids choir at end and connect that to her charecter she is in video, she realize something during video, Toumas said so in a interview i watched.. I didnt read the book 1984 written by George Orwell, but the song got reference to that book i belive. At first listen i needed another listen, at 3th listen the song got me, and i started like the children choir, i actually think its a pretty good song, and something not heard like this from NW before, now i listened to the song many times! This is not a Empuu shine song, there is heavy guitar rhytm in the middle section and end, but not the big Empuu solo, but i also think this song dosent need it, because the Children choir takes spotlight instead,.. The title the day off.. is missing telling what its the day off, so i think this is where you can put in the optimistic view of the song, as a listener, if you like to, and hear the song that way, the listener decide what its the day off. The original idea, was that that this song should be 1st single, but then Tuomas changed that to be Perfume of the timeless instead.-
Not to arque, just FYI - I have seen the comment the line "choir sings as much as Floor " in some comments, and since I do not feel that way, I decided to clock it. With a few seconds error margin: Floor sings about 102 seconds, Kids choir 43 seconds and both together 35 seconds. Otherwise I like your comment and do agree with your interpretation.
Butterflies because nowadays Nightwish also come with a stronger message. Tuomas was talking about (in shorts) his notion about continuous fear mongering by media, etc... Making too many people afraid to actually LIVE.
Enjoyed your reaction! This one requires a deep dive into the lyrics to start to understand. For me it is a warning to people to not listen to the people who are always coming up with a new existential calamity to control people and take away their freedom. Either through fear (scaring people into voluntarily giving up their rights) or to justify oppressive laws (taking away your rights to solve "the problem"). In the lyrics Tuomas references numerous end of days, apocalyptical events that have caused unjustified fear. Second Coming, War of the Worlds, A.I. run amok killing us all, Y2K, Purgatory, Cowering before a Caliphate (Islamic Theocracy). "A new strain sent you back into your cave. Obey, stay away, cover up" Pretty obvious to me what Tuomas is going for there. There is also a line saying fear more in this grave new world of 84. For me that means we have entered a world where the governments and their allies in the media, especially social media prescribe for us the correct way to think on subjects, just like George Orwell's novel 1984. Loved the section in the video showing the Mayan on their knees during a solar eclipse over their pyramids, a reference to the Mayan prediction of the world coming to an end in 2012 that freaked out some people. Best set of lines from the song has to be "A need to feel dread, gloom, awe. A lust for never-ending doom porn" A very poetic way to describe human beings attraction to bad events, horrible situations, a little schadenfreude to make us feel better. Like the news guys say, If it Bleeds It Leads.
@@elsenm3965 Totally fair. I was trying to keep my comment short and may have over simplified. I agree with you that Tuomas, above all else, is about nuance and shades of grey and most importantly, thinking critically for oneself

This is one of those songs that I'm starting to like the more I listen to it. I didn't really know what to think the first time, but I'm getting to like it. Been quite a few NW songs like that. I felt the same about Tribal until fairly recently.
The song is talking about a lot of end of days type of stuff. Many references to as you noticed 1984 by George Orwell, Brave new world by Huxley, Y2k etc. But end of the world stuff has been a popular topic on people's minds for millenia and well, it's a bit of a dreary topic. However, the new videos were shot before Floor gave birth and suddenly I had this thought; this song ends with 2 words: due date. The due date for the end of the world...or the due date for a newborn? And that got me thinking about how there's always people talking about doom and the end of the world but every time a new baby is born there's a new beginning. Anyways, not sure if it makes sense to anyone but that's what I'm getting from it.
Harmageddon, War of the Worlds. Déjà vu Tuomas, Grave New World of '84, Sandman, Yours is an empty... The Terracotta Army [almost] The Mayan calendar, "Fear is the mind killer". The shots, falling out of the back of a Hercules? James Bond? The person falling in the white sheet [Ghost?] Childrens choir, almost "We don't need no education"?
You're right, there are references to Orwell, but also many other references. And it's not as much about the actual extinction of our culture or our kin, but I'd think more about the fear of it not allowing us to live up to our full potential. But I have to fully analyse and think it through yet, and also read interpretations of others, which often opens up one's mind to different ideas. Great reaction! And well, you're a beauty indeed 😊
It’s about the fear mongers of all times trying to manipulate the people to do what they want. In the thirty years I teach there are always pupils asking me if there’s going to be a war or if the world will end. I’ve always assured them it will get by, but it hit me every time to see their fear. So this song is wonderful to enlighten them they are being manipulated.
Another one that grows on you the more you listen to it. (The lyrics are online, and worth a read.) My take is that it's a critique of doom-saying preachers and politicians, who are out to profit from the fears that they spread, while doing nothing about the actual problems ("yours is an empty sermon.") It also criticizes the way so many people willingly fall for it ("a need to feel dread, gloom, awe".) Armageddon never arrives ("so many times past the deadline"), but there's always "another fear" to get them scared, get their money, and get their votes.
Hi, this is my fifth time listening to this song, three the official videos and the other two with reactions,of course this one, and somehow I can't get into this song. Just waiting to hear the next tune, hopefully it will go back to something I can get into. Love Nightwish, don't get me wrong, but I'm hoping they don't do what other bands have done (example Journey) I lost interest in them after the last album they did in 2021, not because of their talent,is just went (hard to explain) a different road I just couldn't follow. Great reactions 👍 🤟
Bear in mind, I've only listen to it a couple of times, but the way I see/hear it, is you have all these doom scenarious, Y2K, 1984, Mayans Calenar etc etc. its all doom and gloomy but in the end you see a new light, a new hope.
It was Pompeii you were thinking of. It's not an easy reaction when there's lyrics to concentrate on and video and music. There's a lot to take in but you have an ability for picking up stuff quickly even then. 😊 You should take a look at the video for Noise, off their last album. So much going on in that one and really interesting lyrics that I think you'll enjoy. Might be worth either reading them first or having the captions on perhaps.
Great reaction! I am sure you ment Pompeii the town that had been buried under the ash of the volcano vesuvius in the year 79 AD. Yes, you are right, the "statues" really remind me of the buried people that had been found there. Nightwish songs have always been challenging especially since EFMB but this one - wow! This is not for a one time listening but think it over again and again.

Nice to see your surprise in the reaction video 😉 The song still has to grow on me, but I don't really care for the music style! I like the first song better😘
I find this song/music video both fascinating and deeply disturbing in a way I cannot quite put my finger on. The more I listen to it, the more I like it and the more I’m kinda creeped out by it. XD.
I first discovered Nightwish in 2011 watching the outstanding documentary Metal Evolution. They featured the Nightwish song “Nemo”. I liked the original lead singer Tarja Turunen but since I’m not an opera fan I found her too operatic for my tastes. I did really like Nightwish’s second lead singer Anette Olzon and I absolutely loved the two albums she recorded Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum. However seeing clips of Nightwish live I heard the limited vocals Anette sang live. Then Floor Jansen joined and she combined the opera style of Tarja and the pop style of Anette. But she also brought her own outstanding style all her own. Floor’s first album Endless Forms Most Beautiful is still my favorite album of the 2010’s. And I came to appreciate the brilliant Marko Hietala on bass and vocals. Marko and Floor sang incredibly together. I was lucky enough to see Nightwish here in Chicago in 2018. Outstanding even in the very small Aragon Ballroom. Then Nightwish released Human II Nature right at the beginning of Covid. It was the worst album Nightwish had ever released in my opinion. Ok I’ve ranted long enough on my historical knowledge of Nightwish. On to this song. I didn’t like it whatsoever. It was the same awful thing they recorded on Human Nature. My opinion is it’s because the wonderful Marko has left and he was the only person to keep Nightwish’s leader Tuomas Holopainen in check. I think a song like this is merely album filler. I want my old Nightwish back with Floor and Marko and I’m sad that probably will never happen again. Thank you for your channel and giving me the opportunity to rant.
Thanks Red. Making a little fun of all those who believe the end of the world is upon us. According to Tuomas Floor plays the role of the fear mongers (pretty obvious if you read the lyrics) and the magical moment occurs when the Floor sings with the choir in the last chorus , children who are not drawn into this trend. "Way past the due date"
I was at the premiere yesterday. Tuomas Holopainen said in a interview that the lyrics and the music are very connected on this album. The video is really special.
Everyone should have the right to show their face... including Afghan girls... Nightwish - The Eyes of Sharbat Gula ruclips.net/video/hvbSWXi6hgA/видео.html
As I don't generally like metal, I like Nightwish's new direction more. Although, I must say that "The Poet and the Pendulum" remains their masterpiece. Although this song is very difficult to sing for Floor, it is not so spectacular as a performance. I must also say, they can act as well! A whole different talent. Although the video clip is scarier than the worst nightmare I had in my 61 years alive.
Your face expression in the end of song was like you had a Mental Big O leaving you totally exhausted - Nightwish can do that. Personally do not care for the video, but listen only the song/music few times and the song grows into you easily - a challenging one this one, love that they are trying different styles!
Clip and music: bland & boring. Floor and Emppu underused (again). Marko's metal presence sorely missed. The poppy drums just plodding along, lacking any kind of groove. The video - in which nothing much is happening other than NW puppets falling - aptly symbolises the fall of this "band" (the Metal Mozart's solo project disguised as one). Floor should get out a.s.a.p. after their 30th anniversary. Read her Aardschok interview abt missing Marko, overusing a mediocre singer like Troy and the touring hiatus. Finally, after playing nice for way too long ("Tuomas challenged me, etc" the H:N blabla), she's giving off diplomatically phrased, yet very strong vibes that she's had enough. Good for her!
The evolution of symphonic metal....

Nightwish sure don´t do easy songs or videos.
we will all go back to stardust at the end of earth

Deeper than a puddle 😮
As I don't generally like metal, I like Nightwish's new direction more. Although, I must say that "The Poet and the Pendulum" remains their masterpiece. Although this song is very difficult to sing for Floor, it is not so spectacular as a performance. I must also say, they can act as well! A whole different talent. Although the video clip is scarier than the worst nightmare I had in my 61 years alive.
We all prefer Nightwish live. Unfortunately, no new shows until 2026. The end is always coming, but never arrives. Yet?
👍Cool video, makes you think. 🖖❤
Your face expression in the end of song was like you had a Mental Big O leaving you totally exhausted - Nightwish can do that. Personally do not care for the video, but listen only the song/music few times and the song grows into you easily - a challenging one this one, love that they are trying different styles!
THE FIST NIGHTWISH SONG I DON'T LIKE !!!!
My neighbor 😍
I think they are calling out doom sayers, of all types, as charlatans and con artists. I like the message, but the tune is a bit of a dude for me.
Yours is an empty hope 😏
