Nikki, Tuomas wrote this to honour his father who passed away a few years ago. When he told Floor the motivation for the song and the lyrics she burst into tears….
Thanks Nikki for this video. I lost my husband 8 months ago and during this time, it is the music of this band that brings me peace and joy and helps me to carry on. This is the first time that their music brings me to tears, but it is in a good way, this song is so beautiful. Take care.
Nikki, I lost my father in 2011 at 80 years old, and my 90 year old mother passed in November, 2023.I can't listen to this song without having tears roll down my cheeks! I am trying to become an even better man to honor my parents!
I'm sorry for your losses. ❤️ And I think that's a great way to live your life. I try to do that with my dad in mind as well and then I feel more positive about trying to live my own life despite it being different now.
My favourite song of the album Yesterwynde. These pictures from an old film projector show pictures from the past, from those who already have left or are old now. Tuomas Holopainen wrote it as a reflection upon his father’s passing in 2021. He reflects on how we have been blessed to have had lantern lights who have guided our lives and how we in turn should serve the same role for others. It is about our love for each other. The Welsh and Northern English word "wynde" means a narrow lane or alley between homes. Basically we walk that narrow alley between our ancestors and our descendants lighting the way between generations until we become the ancestors when we walk into the yesterwynde. Gone is the hurt, the wait, gone is the warmth of day. A stray boat saved, happy memories engraved, on into a velvety night, beneath a lanternlight. Last night brought the heaviest of snows melting the songs of old, tying the boat, write a new one soon, sending me to the drowning moon, far above a lanternlight. I'm in the light and flood, I'm in the four winds, I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems, I am the snow on your palm. I am the secret stream, moss beneath your feet, I am you who climbed off of my back not long ago, a sheltered song in a world now gone, petrichor, the timeless. Turn loose the swaying boat, meltwater, sound of spring. I hear our song now, sung by the free, for a thousand more tomorrows of an incomplete weave. To the meadows I go, I’ll be waiting for you once upon a lanternlight. I walk now toward the trees, I am the secret stream, the night falling at my feet into the forest of Yesterwynde.
This song is written by Tuomas, as a ode to hes Father that passed away in 2021, Floor sings absolute beautiful on this, and Troy joining at end, perfect!! I lost my Father 6 years ago, and my mother 5 years ago, listening to this, will bring me memories of them, and a song of sadness, beauty and hope at same time, this is a song i would consider a masterpiece, love it!!
I lost my mom on January 8 2024 and that was one of the hardest things I've been through but this song brings some closure to her passing and just makes me think of more simple times. Also I am sorry for your loss, hopefully you're doing well
One of your most touching and beautiful reactions to Nightwish. I had listened to the whole album first. When Lanternlight came out as the last song, I couldn't hold back my tears anymore. That never happens to me with an album; except once before - at Sleeping Sun. These two songs are for me the most emotional songs Nightwish has ever produced.Lanternlight is by far my absolute favorite song from this album.
The album vocals were recorded a few weeks after Floor gave birth to Lucy. The recordings were done at Floor's home studio. They allocated six weeks to record. Floor finished in six *days*. Tuomas was stunned.
Hello Nikki. The whole Album is a Masterpiece. But,Lanternlight has a speacial place in my heart. The Lyrics, the camera so near to Floors face, Tuomas piano playing and at the end, Troy and the Orchestra comes in. I loss my Mum 4 years ago, and this make me sad and hopefull. Again, a great reaction. With a❤ from northern Germany 🤘
I feel you Rolf, i have my losses as well..🙏 Lantern Light works both ways.. It is bittersweet.. And foremost very wholesome to the soul.. Stay strong my friend. Greetings from Hengelo NL.

An iron fist, in a velvet glove. It hits hard. I initially thought it was a Floor composition when I first heard it. It would fit right in to her set list, if she finds time for another solo tour.
BTW, at 7:25 notice the doubling of Floor's face. Might be just me but I'm reminded there of Janus, the Roman god with the two faces looking into the past/future simultaneously, representing the passage of time. Just a wild guess tho, but it would perfectly fit the message/vibe.
I'm not super emotional but Floor has a way to get me there and especially with A Decade in The Sun from Endless Forms and now with Yesterwynd. What an amazing song and both song are in relation to parents. Great Review Nikki and sorry for your loss. ❤
Is that the island on a lake where Tuomas went some time with his father who passed away ? Floor and Troy do so beautiful singing here to fit the mood.
I'm a 58 year old Metalhead, and this is almost too much for me, it's achingly beautiful and brings a tear to my eye 😳 P.S. that poem was a favourite of my Dad's, we lost him in 2010.
This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover. Mmm, the warmth of her voice. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a "Magic Lantern". The old flickering movies, like memories. Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references? I am the snow on your palm [Storytime] I am the secret stream [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness] Moss beneath your feet [My Walden] I am you who climbed off of my back [Decades in the Sun] Then Troy drifts in with his soft voice, he made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :)
Don't ever be sorry to show that you have a soul that can be touched by music or a poem. Nightwish has a way of doing this. Perfect reaction, Thank You!
Melancholia and memories aplenty while clinging to the smallest of possible signs from beyond. Lost our dad in the fall of 2019. My wife and I were on holidays in Germany and it took us completely by surprise. He had been saving lives throughout his own as a doctor, but he couldn't save himself. We were devastated and the blow was too much for my wife to bear. She had been battling cancer since 2012 (an aggressive brain tumor that came with a 1.5yr life expectancy, according tt experts) and my dad's sudden death took a severe toll. She died one year and a week later, also in september. Only 42yrs old. During that last vacation in Germany with our trusty rooftop tent, camping out semi-legally in the wild, we had our own "lanternlights". Kind of like pods that you could turn upside down to make them light up like a candle. The orange light actually flickered like one which gave a nice campfire effect. Very useful also to attract moths and a special kind of beetle that would otherwise have bugged us senseless while we were looking at the stars at night. She was a massive NW/Floor fan and we had tickets for the Ziggo Dome show in November, but she never made it (and the show got cancelled, due to CO(n)VID anyway). This song for me captures the other side of the search for your loved ones, for any kind of connection after they're gone. I remember talking to a fly one day who followed me around the house. When your grief engulfs your entire existence, everything becomes a sign. The song describes all of these manifestations from the perspective of the deceased, saying "look, I'm everything & everywhere!". Nightwishful thinking, which would only hurt like h3ll if it weren't for Floor's all embracing, motherly voice. I'm no fan of Troy's vocals to be quite honest, but even with him present (which needn't be if Floor does this one in her solo shows) I deeply appreciate this instant Nightwish classic.
If you have lost someone that lived the most respectful life you could ever hope for, this song will speak to you. This is not a sad song. It is a love song about the passing of someone that was loved by all that truely knew them. It speaks to how we are not truley ever gone. But we remain upon everything we have touched. "I am the snow on your palm"....
This is the most beautiful, heart and soul touching, fulfilling and masterful celebration for, and remembrance of, one’s father❤️🔥 Tuomas is an absolute genius! My father, the strongest man I know, passed on cpl of years ago on the eve of my Birthday! He had truly endured after strokes etc for 20+ years . His passing was a blessing, so much so, that I had yet to shed one tear! The combination of Tuomas’ another masterpiece and its delivery by Floor and Troy finally opened my flood gates 💦💦 No amount of Finnish strength words (sisu, saatana, perkele) could hold back the desperately needed and necessary outpouring of emotions, reflection, remembrance, appreciation, flashbacks, relived joy! Genuine tears are the most beautiful thing and sign that we are a human with emotions! 💙 and Thank You to Nightwish, The G.O.A.T.

Every time I hear this song I cry. And I am a 2 meter guy from 68 years old. Emotion overload! The Westerwynde cd is on repeat in my player with number 1, 6 and 12 . It lets you remember your passed away loved onces. I want this number played at my own funeral.
Hello dear reactor, this is nice reaction of this beautiful Tuomas' song. I love his piano playing ❤I lost my father in 90s, I moved away from home started study and then work still in this journey. I never had a chance saying farewell to him and that I miss. He never saw my sons. But I love this life what he and my mother...birthing me, gave a life to this soul. I don't know how to say it in English words, would be easier to explain in my native language. Happy Nightwish reaction journey Nikki 🤘
Many reactors have said , this record must be listened to from start to finish to realy understand the album. I lost my wife suddenly in 2015 , I understand seeing a lost loved one in certain randon things.
Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor.
Hello from Romania! I lost my father in 2022 (age 75, stroke) and my spiritual father (wedding godfather) in 2023 (age 54, cancer). I found them in every word of this masterpiece! It helps scarring the wounds in my heart, but they will never fully heal...
Hi Nikki, greetings from UK That was a lovely reaction, thank you 🥰 It is good to know that you are not alone when times are sad, and to have people to share the fun times with too. You have an army of people right alongside you 🤗 The Magic Lantern was an early type of film projector and the film being shown was seen as being 'the light from the lantern' so that explains the background images. Also the sound you hear right at the end is the sound that the projector made This might interest you....Elizabeth from 'The Charasmatic Voice' will be doing a two hour 'team time interview' with Floor today. We have been hoping for years that this would happen and now it finally is
You got it so right with this song again. I lost my mum in 2020 and my dad in 2022. A few weeks ago my dog died and it hurts a lot. This song has this melancholic feel, makes me think about my parents and the past. I don't listen to too many reactions to the song in one day.
You are an emotionally wise person, your reflections are authentic and make a great connection to us all. There wasn't a silly ore shameful word in your speech afterwards. I am impressed. And what a great father you are blessed with!
This is up there with "Sleeping Sun" and "Our Decades In the Sun" for me. And it's giving off the same vibe as the latter, the subject matter seems to be similar, family and loved ones. And as I've said before, Yesterwynde feels like a hybrid between Nightwish and Auri. And Floor and Troy sound as amazing as ever. If this is the last Nightwish album ever, they are certainly ending it on a high note. When you read that poem, I started welling up. My parents are still here, for now, but sometimes I can't help but think about the day I can't visit them anymore, or give my mom late night calls ever again... well, I am happy that day hasn't arrived yet, and I guess all we can do is take life one day at a time 🥲
This song is quite emotional...my father passed in 2011 at 80 years old, and my mom passed at 90 years old in November of 2023. I get all teary eyed listening to this song. As it reminds me of how short we really are here on this earth!
In 2009 I was deployed to Iraq with the US Army and 2 weeks before we redeployed home I got a Red Cross message telling me my mother had died, and then in February of this my Mother-in-law (whom I was very close to) passed. The song is such a beautiful tribute to those we lose.
Such a beautiful reaction! Thank you for sharing your personal experiences and that beautiful poem. Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is taping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy.
My two month-old son died in my arms from a congenital heart defect, sending my wife into a deep depression that ended in her suicide. This song brings my solace.
This song is deep and touches deep. It‘s about the ones we lost but who are not fully gone. I`m in the light and flood I`m in the four winds I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems I am the snow on your palm When even Floor has teary eyes while recording the video …
Thank you for us able to share this song with you. It is very beautiful and touching myself more warm than sad way. My mother passed away about less than 2 years ago, but this was infact the second time she died. First time was before me and my siblings were even born, when she was 24 years old, but that time she was dead only about 10 minutes. Doctors did everything to get her back, but she always told later that it was her choise to come back, and continue living here 55 years more. My both parents has been my lanternlights during my life, many times. Even during my adult age the feeling of being lost has struck me, and sometimes I got myself into trouble, but there was always understanding and forgiveness at home in the end. My mother was experiencing heaven, when she died first time. I’m not going in to details here, but it is a full story, which she told many times to me. Today I don’t feel sad for her, or even myself losing her. Her experience has giving me a hope, but also guiding to enjoy of life, nature and also understanding forgiveness towards myself and others. Laternlight is the hope when it is dark or scary. Lanternlight has been literatelly, and sometimes is the only way to see the path and find your way home.
Thank you for your emotional reaction. No need to apologize for showing emotions. Just listening to Floor's voice and Tuomas melody in Lanternlight gives me shivers all over my body and teary eyes, every time I listen to it. I don't understand how this can generate such a strong physical reaction of my body. Indeed is the song about the beautiful souls that are no longer with us (in particular Tuomas' father). But also what we have learned from them and how they are a guiding lanternlight for us. That we can celebrate the legacy, life lessons and beautiful memories. I am 67, I hope to be here for another long period of time but as it stand now, this song will be played on my funeral. BTW The poem you recited, can we find that somewere on the internet? I would like to look it up. Thanks!
Got my Yesterwynd CD 3 days ago right on release date and it is incredible!…Rock on Nikki 🤘🤘 Looking forward to joining you and others sharing the music magic that this album delivers,
Es la esperanza luego del dolor, de la pérdida. La vida es simple y compleja al mismo tiempo, como la tristeza y la alegría se mezclan a cada paso que damos.
When I first heard Laternlight ... let me put it this way, I've actually heard the song a few times now and every d... time I get problems with the water balance in my eyes
Just a beautiful ballad. Have only listened through the full album once so far. It's an album that is going to take me several listens to catch everything. Of course Nightwish doesn't go where you think they will. Since no one told you to bring tissues on this one, I will tell you to bring them when you get to the live version of "Breathe" by The Warning. So you mentioned you might need to go listen to a fun song, Electric Callboy "We got the Moves" or Nanowar of Steel "Uranus" should do the trick. lol
Although Tuomas says the standout track on the album is The Children of 'Ata, for me it is this track. Just beautiful. The poem you quoted was one we had on the list for my father's funeral. The lyrics are beautiful too: "I hear our song now, sung by the free For a thousand more tomorrows Of an incomplete weave."
I came just late.... nothing to feel sorry about at all, I didn't have all the context of you and the song itself and that song already makes me cry. that's something with Queen Floor and Maestro Tuomas, with the things they do you can laugh, smile and cry and all that in the same 9 minutes.... really touching and emotive reaction, nive and lovely for sure.... keep rocking and stay safe....!
Nikki, Tuomas wrote this to honour his father who passed away a few years ago. When he told Floor the motivation for the song and the lyrics she burst into tears….
i cant listen to this song without crying. one of the best songs ever written😢

@@Cherlindrea99 Nightwish just signed a contract for several albums
@@APMM58thank you for letting me know! Just changed my comment before people start gossiping about this. Nothing's wrong 🙏🏼
Divine!
Such a beautiful song. 💛🎵
You are an emotionally wise person, your reflections are authentic and make a great connection to us all.
There wasn't a silly ore shameful word in your speech afterwards. I am impressed. And what a great father you are blessed with!
Just seen this im sitting here now tears in my eyes lost my father 20 years ago feel your grief thank you for such a lovely reaction
Thx Nikki !! I lost my parents 26 days apart in2017 and yes this song with you moved me but it is beautiful, thx again !! 🤘🏼💥🤘🏼
This song is simply so beautiful. Great reaction and story about your dad. Greetings from Finland.
My parents are still here, for now, but sometimes I can't help but think about the day I can't visit them anymore, or give my mom late night calls ever again... well, I am happy that day hasn't arrived yet, and I guess all we can do is take life one day at a time 🥲
We are born of the stars, and we will return to the stars. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
This song is quite emotional...my father passed in 2011 at 80 years old, and my mom passed at 90 years old in November of 2023.
I get all teary eyed listening to this song. As it reminds me of how short we really are here on this earth!
That's what a true reaction is ❤🩹
In 2009 I was deployed to Iraq with the US Army and 2 weeks before we redeployed home I got a Red Cross message telling me my mother had died, and then in February of this my Mother-in-law (whom I was very close to) passed.
Good song makes us to think and give different feelings. You did great job here.
My two month-old son died in my arms from a congenital heart defect, sending my wife into a deep depression that ended in her suicide. This song brings my solace.
I'm so sorry to hear that. 😔❤️ I'm glad to hear this song is comforting to you though. I think it's one everyone can relate to at some point. 🤍
@@nikkireviews Thank you, Nikki. That happened in 1979, just as l earned my B.A. with a double major. I'm now 74 & still feel the loss.
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 Great great job Nikki, what an amazing song huh 🎶🎼, yes it was Troy!
This song is deep and touches deep.
It‘s about the ones we lost but who are not fully gone.
I`m in the light and flood
I`m in the four winds
I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems
I am the snow on your palm
When even Floor has teary eyes while recording the video …
Yes, this strikes straight to your soul. But it's a cleansing strike. I hope.
And i have 18 years old cat with me. ❤🐈
Thanks!
OMG YOU WILL LOVE IT
How beautifull you are with this reaction!
Song from soul to souls ❤🔥
Thank you so much Nikki for shearing us your emotions and feelings
Great reaction to a great song
Hi from France

Great reaction as usual. 👍
Can't wait to see your react to "An Ocean Of Strange Islands" and the rest of the album. You're gonna love it. (;
❤ thank You 💜🦋🐬🪶📽
Got my Yesterwynd CD 3 days ago right on release date and it is incredible!…Rock on Nikki 🤘🤘
Looking forward to joining you and others sharing the music magic that this album delivers,
Only from Tuomas, Floor and Nightwish!🎸🤘Tuomas must have read that poem at some point.
So beautiful
Es la esperanza luego del dolor, de la pérdida. La vida es simple y compleja al mismo tiempo, como la tristeza y la alegría se mezclan a cada paso que damos.
Beautiful reaction, Nikki.
Again a great reaction. Thank you. This is one of my favorite songs from this album.
Kiitos Tuomas Holopainen for this music,so beautiful.
Such a wonderful reaction analysis Nikki. You're really good at this. 😊
When I first heard Laternlight ... let me put it this way, I've actually heard the song a few times now and every d... time I get problems with the water balance in my eyes
Touch full and sweet reaction!
Wonderful song!🥹🥹🥹
Just a beautiful ballad. Have only listened through the full album once so far. It's an album that is going to take me several listens to catch everything. Of course Nightwish doesn't go where you think they will.
Since no one told you to bring tissues on this one, I will tell you to bring them when you get to the live version of "Breathe" by The Warning.
So you mentioned you might need to go listen to a fun song, Electric Callboy "We got the Moves" or Nanowar of Steel "Uranus" should do the trick. lol
❤❤❤
♥️♥️
Pure perfection
Although Tuomas says the standout track on the album is The Children of 'Ata, for me it is this track.
Just beautiful.
The poem you quoted was one we had on the list for my father's funeral.
The lyrics are beautiful too:
"I hear our song now, sung by the free
For a thousand more tomorrows
Of an incomplete weave."
... wow .. yes ... and I cried a bit with you .. for my sister and parents .. "snow on my palm"
Nice song, nice reaction. Thanks Nikki😘
❤❤❤ Thank you!
