usually it's for home assistance because they visit a lot of elderly people so to get in the key is locked in there for them. As you said, the fire department will just knock the entire door down.
The simple version? the pick's business end has two parts. The outer part is designed to tension the lock mechanism, similar to a pin-style lock's keyway tensioning tool. the inner part is connected to the knob at the back that can slide in and out--this is the actual pick. the graduated marks on the back are for guiding you in finding the disks--they're spaced the normal distance apart, so you know how far in or out you have to go. rotate the knob, you turn the disk the pick is on. Don't ask me to DO it, I don't know the actual technique. But I can see and describe it, at a basic level.
Until you realize how phenomenally good LPL is, even among locksports. For anything that requires SPP, most criminals would give up and go straight to brute force attacks-or find an easier target.
It would be missing. Certain things are expected--if you use a lock with a ball bearing lock mechanism, certain sounds are made. If you know the mechanism's sounds well enough, you can tell by hearing if one's missing.

I don't understand how that pick works, but damnit if I don't love every time it comes out.
LPL "This is a lock I wouldn't hesitate to use myself" A sigh of relief at the ABUS manager headquarters - "This time we won't be fired yet" ;)
LPL: "I wouldn't hesitate to use it myself"
Abus' stocks: *STONKS*
Abus: high five boys 🙌
LPL is starting to be a concern for security - opens some locks quicker with a pick than a normal person do with the right key.
Until you realize how phenomenally good LPL is, even among locksports.
For anything that requires SPP, most criminals would give up and go straight to brute force attacks-or find an easier target.
I love how people on this channel are somehow avoiding the fact that this guy is showing thieves how to pick a lock. :D
🙄 and showing every one else what locks to avoid.
Is the "missing ball" actually missing, designed out, or otherwise a cost savings measure?
I'm also curious what effect it has on the lock, does it make the lock less secure?
Lol. The ball has less than a cent of steel it. You can buy dozens of bearing balls for a $1
It would be missing. Certain things are expected--if you use a lock with a ball bearing lock mechanism, certain sounds are made. If you know the mechanism's sounds well enough, you can tell by hearing if one's missing.
I have this pick too. Made a few myself. Good design by the way. Thanks again for sharing it
Is there a list with video links to locks recommended/lpl would use somewhere? If not that would probably be appreciated by more than me-
The highest level of praise LPL can give a lock, saying he would use it himself
It's a shame we never get to know who made the disc detainer pick.
it's Bill from Bosnia
Im suprised this content is entertaining. He sounds like a dentist when picking!
LPL recommends an Abus lock.
Someone from Abus si getting a promotion.
I assure you,no one getting promoted.
@@wileecoyote5749 Spoken like an old employee
And someone from Abus is getting fired (or at least a bollocking) for poor QC... zero sum game!
I love to read those comments under LPL videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀
Considering that this lock had only one ball and many, many locks have been picked much faster than this, it looks pretty secure.
The missing ball wouldn't make it harder to pick the lock, those balls are there to stop you from opening the lock without picking/unlocking
@@perz0n595 ok, but if you can open it without picking because of the missing ball wouldn't than who cares if you can pick it.
@@9HighFlyer9 Are you serious right now...
It was a QC issue, and I guarantee Abus will replace it. You can't base your opinion of a product on the one lemon you got.
Love to see a video of all the best locks you think are and what would use for the different applications
"This is a lock I wouldn't hesitate to use myself"
WHAT YEAR AM I? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
I like how even a lock he /would/ endorse just *happens* to have a fatal flaw - thus, robbing the company of complete glory.
"This is a lock forged from pure diamond. It has a core made from pure molten lava that only hardens and responds when this specific proprietary alloy that coats its keys is introduced - thus, ensuring that any other picking attempts result in tools being disintegrated, pretty much ensuring this model to be unpickable."
*company pumps fists*
"However..."
*company un-pumps fists*
"This *particular* lock just so happens to have a 1-in-1,000,000,000,000 flaw due to the lock being assembled on Tuesday, after 2pm, in a snowstorm, while a guy named 'Jack' walks past eating an expired granola bar, where - if you rub some ink from one of those multi-colored pens from the 80's - inside the shackle, it will pop right open. I just happen to have one such pen, right here..."
Company: "**FUUUUUCK!!!**"
When I hear "the tool BB and I made"
I know that lock can't be picked by conventional means
nah, disk detainer picks exist. It's just that Bill and Harry made a better one.
@@tashkiira7838 His name is Harry???
@@lucho_0211 According to Bosnian Bill, yeah. Check out the 'LPL raids the Locklab naughty bucket' video.
Got a yellow ABUS Granit Detecto X-Plus 8077 myself. It's a great piece of kit by German engineers, even if quite expensive. Worth every cent though, wouldn't have any other disc lock.
