    Hi Guys, I erroneously stated that the software is 100 USD per month, which is NOT a very good deal, the pricing is actual $99USD for a perpetual license which is a VERY good deal, thanks to those in the comments who pointed this out.

      Thanks for clarifying, I almost clicked off the video and tossed the idea of buying Plasticity in the bin when I heard that, was glad that I checked the comments.

    Pretty sure its not a monthly subscription, just a one time for the license version up until the next version, but very cool video!

      It is a perpetual license yes. So even better of a deal considering Substance Painter and Substance Designer are both $150 each for what they can do. $100 for a cad program is a very good price. I am really considering buying this for making weapon models for mods for games. I have wanted to make gun mods and this seems to be the easiest way to do that.

    $100 per month!???
    I checked online and it doesn’t mention a subscription anywhere on the site.
    Just $99 (or $299 for Studio).

    Only official forum seems to be Discord, which cannot be joined without a purchase.

    • @takerefuge3d

      Yeah they have increased the price since I made this video, however they have added so much in this time that the price is worthit, I have a recent video covering some of the new features aswell.
      It has a free trial so it's pretty good to get a feel, and the plasticity reddit page is pretty good as an unofficial forum.

      @@takerefuge3d Thanks, I'll look for your other video.
      Red flags for me are 1) an inability to find/read about issues others are having because of the lack of a public forum, 2) lack of official tutorials (unless I missed them) and 3) no response on an emailed inquiry to the developer.
      I know there's a subreddit, but it wasn't helpful.
      One other consideration is whether I really need it if I'm already using Rhino and Fusion 360, though I'm far from a power user of either. I do like that Plasticity now has (I believe) a bridge directly to Blender.
      I don't like taking leaps of faith to this extent, usually. I had the demo, but got caught up in a few project deadlines, and the demo timed out.
      Keep up the great vids.

    Thanks for the demonstration and explanation of NURBS.
    Question: Based on what you've seen, do you think it worthwhile to utilize Plasticity for making complex, highly specific shapes with the intent to convert and export for use in Blender for soft body? I'm unfamiliar with the use of NURBS in Blender (if it exists), since soft body has been my thing. My trouble is I use lot of shapes in these models which toe the line between organic and inorganic, and they have been a massive pain in the ass to get right with the polygonal options.

      Thanks for Comment,
      To Answer your Q.
      I think plasticity could be used for this but you would need to retopologize the mesh, either manually or using something like z-remesher in Z brush, which will get a pretty good result.

    • @fr00tdrank
      @fr00tdrank Год назад

      @@takerefuge3d Yes, I'd certainly anticipate having to remesh. It would just be to initially "capture" that complex and specific shape. Thank you for your input!

    I’m super curious in this software. I make tons of models for 3D printing, but have been getting into more artist models than functional. Gave blender a shot but it’s got a bit of a learning curve. Spent the last year using Shapr3D on pc/iPad and fusion 360 before that. Do think it still can be used for 3D printed models even if that isn’t the focus?

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  Год назад +1

      100 percent, you may need to rescale your object in the slicing software. the main rule for 3d printing is the object needs to not have any holes in it. I highly recommend pursuing blender still as it's a Swiss army knife of 3d software, it does most things to some level and will help you understand 3d pretty well. Depending on what you want to do plasticity will be great, but if your want to do more organic shapes you will need to look to something like blender or zbrush.

  • @mrmoneybagz

    We are living in a world where free software is getting so powerful that the idea of paying for their proprietary alternatives is becoming less sensible. I can't fork $100 for a 3D software when there's FREE Blender and Unreal Engine (Which are constantly receiving regular updates).

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  Год назад +1

      Blender is open source which is a great, I hands down think blender is best example of successful open source, even so it's payed for just through different means, unreal is very much propriety they only make you pay when you start to earn so not really free. godot is though.
      Personally I think open source is the future and will be the main form of software we use 50 years from now, Blender has proven it.
      Plasticity fills a gap that neither unreal or blender currently fill, it's a hundred bucks for a perpetual licence. Solidworks probably the closest alternitave to plasticity is 4000 for a licence with an annual upgrade fee of 1300 so very very cheap for what it is.

    thanks for the video, just a little correction,
    the licensee is perpetual, it's 100 USD and that's it. 100$ per month is not cheap at all!
    This is not a subscription software, it clearly says so on their page, so even better!

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  Год назад

      It has precision tools using the metric system, however it's aimed at artists so that's not the main focus of the software.

    • @zweiwing4435
      @zweiwing4435 Год назад +1

      @@takerefuge3d it is not as sounds is real CAD software? At all?

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  Год назад +1

      @@zweiwing4435 to be fair, it uses the same NURBS kernel as solid works and many other top CAD software (parasolid) but its aim is to be user friendly for artists, as opposed to an industrial design software, there are dozens of programs for CAD for 3d printing and precision modelling, that as I understand is not the intention of this software, in its true sense i guess its not the same as CAD software most are used to, but it still has the same bones the skin is just different.
      Hypothetically you could make objects to scale in Plasticity, it just might not be the best at that particular task.
