Yes,they generally are supposed to be. Some of them will advise u of the possible consequences/negative side effects that can possibly occur from your behavior but they are typically supposed to not make u feel judged n supposed to make u feel comfortable opening up to them. Dr. Phil cares more about his audience n waving his proverbial Wang around (sorry to be so crass) than he does about the guests in his show. I don't want to say patients because I believe he has not practiced as a real Doctor in a very long time.
Actually, I looked it up. He has never been licensed to practice as a physician in any state. He does have a PhD in Philosophy n had a license to practice psychology in Texas obtained in 1979(not sure if it's still current).
